This is important. Don't let your workplace prevent you from getting help with your injury or the consequences of an injury

What You Should do After a Work-Related Injury

Workplace injuries are possible at any kind of a job. Many of today’s jobs involve environmental hazards that can result in loss of hearing, the creation of allergies, injuries from outdoor weather conditions, respiratory difficulties, and dozens of other medical and physical conditions that impact your lifestyle and ability to function fully and normally. According to one Philadelphia attorney, “One of the most common workplace injuries in offices, of course, is carpal tunnel syndrome, which affects tens of thousands of people each year, decreasing their efficiency and threatening their ability to continue to earn a living.”

Unsafe working conditions have been the bane of working men and women for centuries, and even though the United States leads the world in rules and regulations to protect life and limb when on the job, there are still far too many employees who suffer from work related health issues from injuries sustained on the job.

Safety training

Whether your workplace is an office, a warehouse, a factory, or various outdoor venues, your employer has a legal obligation to see that your are given safety training prior to beginning any work, in order to help you become familiar with potential hazards and how to avoid/prevent them. Never refuse or ignore an invitation from your employer to participate in these classes – and make doubly sure that after you have completed them you are officially certified as having completed them. This is a crucial key if you ever consider filing for workman’s compensation.

Where to go if you’re injured on the job

Another crucial element for employees to remember is that in most states employers are legally obligated to post a list of physicians that you, as an injured employee, must go to for an examination if you intend to file for workman’s compensation. That doesn’t mean you can’t see your regular doctor at all, it means you should also schedule an appointment with a physician listed by your employer – again, this make filing for workman’s compensation much easier and less time-consuming.

Don’t sign on the dotted line!

It’s important to carefully look over any document you are asked to sign when you do go see a doctor suggested by your employer in contemplation of filing for workman’s compensation. If you are at all unsure about what a document means, do not sign it. At this point in your contemplation of filing, you really need to find a competent workman’s compensation lawyer to take up the case for you. While workman’s comp was originally designed for nearly anyone to understand and file for without outside assistance, over the years it has grown in complexity, until today the smart person with a work-related injury will not hesitate to employ an experienced attorney to help make sense of the paperwork and to protect your right as an injured employee.

Never forget that your work-related injury can extend to your family’s well being, too. The stress and strain involved in suddenly losing a paycheck often brings on stress-reduced illness in a spouse and even in children. All this will be taken into account when your lawyer begins negotiating with the workman’s comp people and with your employer. By putting your future into the hands of a competent and experienced attorney you will guarantee much better results for yourself and your loved ones than if you try to ‘go it alone.’

Okay so I don't know why people say sex or love is what makes us human. Lots of organisms in nature have sex or mate for life. You know what makes us human? Cooking. Nothing else in nature cooks except humans. Checkmate aphobes. Sincerely, an ace cook.

If you weren't aware that America's debt and loan system is bullshit and unethical here is an example.

i just got a super predatory debt collection letter. it was for a $113 debt from citizens bank, who i had an account with when i was 16 (20 years ago). the letter appeared to be an offer to cancel the debt if i paid them $22.75. HOWEVER, the actual wording is, “The amount of the debt is $113.77 and we will accept $22.75.” so, no MENTION of canceling the debt, but the implication is there because many collectors of current debt offer to settle for a percentage. at the bottom of the letter, it says: “Because of the age of your debt, we cannot sue you for it and we cannot report to any credit reporting agency. In many circumstances, you can renew the debt and start the time period for the filing of a lawsuit against you if you take specific actions such as making payments on the debt or making a written promise to pay.” basically… i don’t owe this money anymore, the debt is so old they can’t legally sue me for it OR put it on my credit report, BUT if i take their generous offer of paying them $22.75… they can sue me for the full amount because making a payment makes the debt current. no thanks, jefferson capital systems llc.

A reminder that doing good is a risk worth taking. Except with rides and other things that may get you kidnapped or killed. Donations and such are always good though

I was in line at Aldi and this girl with two toddlers in front of me had her card declined and she looked so fucking sad and said “let me call my husband real quick” and it was only 18 dollars, so I just paid for it, and she was very sweet and then as she walked off, the lady behind me said `”You know that was probably a scam, right?” and like, even if it was, like what a sad fucking scam, right? 18 dollars at the Aldi. If you’re “scamming” me for some Tyson chicken and apple juice and cauliflower, then just take my fucking money.

“A scam” people are fucking wild.

Anxiety musings

I've had anxiety for a good while now and I've just started to wonder if the physical and mental overstimulation that causes my anxiety also causes my migraines. Or visa versa I suppose. I wonder if there's a connection between a mind that is overstimulated/unable to cope properly with sensations and scenarios and other health issues.

I wish people considered the effects of the policies they support on other people, their effects in the long-term and whether or not the policy is likely to have the outcome it claims to pursue. If people considered more in depth the policies maybe there would be less walls, and more immigration programs, or less straw bans, and more recycling and material research programs.

I will let you know which it is. I hate Apple's willingness to screw the consumers that support them. I, in turn constantly hope they get punished for their awful business practices.

That’s Louis Rossman, a repair technician and YouTuber, who went viral recently for railing against Apple. Apple purposely charges a lot for repairs and you either have to pay up or buy a new device. That’s because Apple withholds necessary tools and information from outside repair shops. And to think, we were just so close to change.

I'm really tired of people who have no deeper historical understanding of events claiming that the "same thing happened when Obama was president". If you don't know why something happened please don't assume the circumstances were the same. Also the someone else also did this crappy thing so it's acceptable argument is juvenile and certain not applicable to governance. Any incredibly bad thing a president does, doesn't suddenly become acceptable or less important because it's been done before.

trump’s 1 year anniversary of being president is starting off with the government shutting down that’s the perfect representation of how american politics has been going for the past year

So when I was reading the first sentence of this I had no clue it was for a plushie repair page and was confused about how a gorilla could lose its head and survive.

Gorilla

Gorilla had a very unfortunate accident.  His arm and head were torn off and he lost and eye, nose, and part of his face!

Here are the diagnosis photos I received from his person:

Gorilla
Gorilla

Fortunately, he looked quite treatable.  We started with a spa, because he was already going to need new stuffing:

Then he got his heart and was restuffed:

I thought he was back together and sent these photos:

His person wrote “ Wow he looks amazing!”  …. but he used to have ears, can you add some?  Apparently, the gorilla had lost he ears entirely!  So I made a small sample ear and put it temporarily in place:

Gorilla

“Perfect!” said his person.  So I affixed it firmly and did the other one as well.  Here he is ready to fly home:

Sturdy with 100% scent, 20/20 vision, and perfect hearing again!

I love runoff voting because it combats many of the problems that lead to a less responsive two party system that doesn't meet the needs of the people it is meant to serve. I think this would be a step in the correct direction if we were willing to implement it and work towards higher voter turnout and fair boundaries for voter districts.

Something fascinating is happening in Maine.

This year, Republican Bruce Poliquin sought reelection, having served in the House of Representatives for two terms.  He ran against the Democrats’ candidate, Jared Golden.

Poliquin got 46.2% of the votes.  Golden got 45.7% of the votes.

So Poliquin got more votes… right?

What if I told you that Golden is expected to be the new Representative?

You’ll notice that 46.2% + 45.7% = 91.9%, not 100%.

See, Poliquin and Golden weren’t the only candidates, there were also Independent candidates like like Tiffany Bond and Will Hoar.

image

Normally in America, if you vote for someone that’s “kinda like a Democrat, but not a Democrat” you run the risk of having a Republican win (and if you vote for someone “kinda like a Republican” it can be seen as helping the Democrats).

For example, over in Arizona it looks like the Democratic candidate for the Senate might have won… except some people voted for a liberal “Green Party” candidate.  More than twice as many people than were needed for the Democrat to win.  So the Republican candidate goes to the Senate.

The election was won by the candidate that less voters liked.

Back to Maine.

In 2016, Maine became the first state in America to vote in favor of having their federal elections be decided by ranked choice/instant runoff voting.

Under this type of voting, people fill out a ballot to say which candidate they like the most… and which candidate would be their second choice, their third choice, and so on.

If no candidate gets a majority of the votes, then officials look at the ballots again and say “okay which candidates got the fewest votes? Who did their supporters say was their second choice?”

image

The votes for the candidates that got nowhere near a majority are given to whichever candidate was the “Second choice” of those voters.  The goal is to ensure that the winning candidate is someone that a majority of the population is at least okay with.

And that’s why Poliquin, with his 46.2% is expected to lose to Golden and his 45.7%.  Because the people that ended up voting for an Independent mostly said “well, Golden wouldn’t be my favorite… but he’s better than Poliquin!”

The end result still isn’t perfect, but it’s a vastly more democratic process, that has the potential to elect officials far more representative of the population.

People can vote for an Independent freely instead of holding their nose and voting for the “lesser evil.”  Independent parties can have a chance to grow instead of being demonized as taking away votes.

And candidates can look at the results and say “huh, a lot of the people that got me elected really liked that Independent.  Maybe I should see what were the policies that made the Independent popular?

Americans need to look to Maine and ask “why aren’t we doing it like that?” (and maybe head over to https://www.fairvote.org/ to try and get the ball rolling in their State)
