i’ve always been exceptionally curious about things on the microscopic level. particularly, as a kid i was very intrigued by the question “are viruses alive”. subjects like the incurability of HIV/AIDS, H1N1, and other diseases garnered my attention.

id like to research disease or genetics or both in tandem after getting the necessary education. i’m currently involved in undergraduate research regarding the alkanes emitted by the gut microbiota of cattle.

Throwback to that time that one of my lecturers told us that Google is free so he wasn’t just going to throw a bunch of facts at us, and I said (to my friends) ‘why are we paying for him to teach us if we can just be taught by Google?’ and then approximately ten minutes later had to take it back, because Google would not have BROUGHT A PLASTIC TAKE OUT BOX FULL OF DEAD PARASITIC WORMS INTO THE LECTURE THEATRE AND STARTED SHOWING THEM ROUND AND THROWING THEM ABOUT

i didn’t know people were out here using chatgpt to have faux-intellectual conversations but everyone note that generative AI have, most of the time, access to literally anything and everything that is posted online.

as in, right or wrong, it takes that information to answer your prompt. that’s chatgpt and literally any other open AI. as it’s not a human being, it can’t reliably determine if a source is a good one. it also cannot always interpret a source correctly. additionally, they rely on humans to code and train the models. thus we still have human error involved.

AI is a tool, certainly, but people need to understand that they are a tool, not a replacement for human intelligence. it is supplemental. ask AI for ideas for your paper, do not ask it to write it. ask AI how to solve a problem in general (and know it’s likely going to tell you wrong, depending on difficulty), don’t give it your problem and take its word for it. if you ask for a topic/article summary, go back and check it if something seems important or if you’d like to know more.

please don’t be a chump and make yourself look like a fool that can’t formulate thoughts 💕 AI will not “take over” humanity, but people using it incorrectly can/will have widespread, broadly encompassing negative effects on society.

true story i went to this bar in san diego and the bathroom was unisex w three stalls. i walk in and the first one is pretty gross, second one is a black commode with a black light bulb directly over head and all i can tell is it appears to be COVERED in piss, more than i thought a toilet seat could hold. i go to the THIRD stall and it’s STACKED with toilet paper just coming up & out the bowl. so i’m like jfc ok and i go back to the first one to squat over it. i’m mid pissin and this lady comes in and does the same thing except much more vocal. she goes to her first (my third) and is like **ew wtf**. and i’m like oh no baby wait. she hits the second and loud asf goes “IS THIS A MFKIN JOKE??” and went back to the other one, flushed it and i’m guessing did her business. i bout fell on my own filthy assseat bc my body locked up trying not to laugh.

i was blowed out when it happened and the first time i told the story but imma think about it every time i go shopping in the public restroom
