desi culture (classical dance edition) is not realising you've been in the (once a very uncomfortable) neutral pose for the past hour for no particular reason
Oh fuck I felt this
I'm reblogging this as my mom is sitting across the table from me going through some property papers because hamare rishthedar jhagda kar rahe hai
Desi culture is your immediate or door ke rishthedar or even your neighbours having property pe jhagda
Desi culture is storing dal, biscuits, namkeen etc. in horlicks ka dabba
and then turning around and saying "ay bahar AISE jaa rahi ho? kuch acchhe se pehen"
Desi culture is "hello? Fashion show jaa rahi ho?"

One real benefit of reading I rarely hear anybody mention is how much more interesting life becomes when you read a lot. It depends what you’re reading, of course, but most (good) books will teach you something you didn’t already know, and even if you have to give the book back to the library, you get to take that much with you. A lot of people talk about things they wish they’d studied in school–I’ve done it, too–but it’s a nice consolation prize that you can always pick up a book and learn something new. And as that library in your brain collects more volumes, everything around you gains new resonances, new context, and new connections which make your lived experience richer. In quarantine alone I’ve read about religion and politics and history and evolution and computer science and astrophysics without even leaving my house and it’s already a more interesting world.

ladies and gentlemen, I offer you an exclusive peek inside nikolai lantsov's head
i am in severe distress. i am vibing. i am king of the world. i am bored. i am lost at sea. i am making coffee. i am foraging in the forest. i am making tea. i am chasing pigeons. i am napping in a chair
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
Me: Alright, you got this. You can do this. You can learn everything that has been taught this semester.
Me: It's time. It's time to study, to cram, to learn.
Me: No. No, no. No, no, no. No, no, no, just no. You do NOT NEED TO WATCH ANOTHER EPISODE OF ______. Study. Go watch a lecture.
Me: You need to get off social media. Actually you just need to get off your phone. Put it downstairs in the living room. You do not need it.
Me: Seriously. Every semester. At least one class you've basically not attended and it has an exam. And now you're suffering for it.
Me: Ok. Lets study. Go get your book, your textbook aand your laptop. Cause let's face it, it's the first time you've learnt this shit.
Me: Get motivated. You do not have time to do this shit. You can't afford to be able to not concentrate.
Me: Ok, you can't concentrate on reading the textbook, you read that paragraph roughly six times and you have no clue what it said. Watch the lecture, yeah. The lecture will be easier to concentrate on.
Me: You are not a quitter. You're not. So lets stay up another hour or two and get one more week summarised for your exam notes.
Me: Do you really want to do this class again? Like really? Cause its not like you pay and then you can do it however many times it takes. You Pay Each Time You Take It. So Study. Learn the material. Learn the shit. Pass the exam. You are not forking out another grand on this class.
Me: Next semester will be different. You'll go to all of your classes, you'll do all your readings. And you'll do weekly summaries so you'll already have your exam notes done.

Books that have a soul
I am really happy to see people gathering in Tik Tok and other medias to talk about books and share experiences and incentives reading, no matter the book category, be it YA, Sci-fi, Romance, etc...
But I am pretty bugged by see people saying "ew! You write on the margins!" or "OMG you dog-eared your book" or even "the cover is so pretty! But why did you broke the spine?"
We all have to understand that each one have a way of read and maintain their books, some are really expensive, I know, and we prefer keep them looking as good as new.
But sometimes... a dog-eared book can mean "oh my I had a thing to do so I stopped reading but did not wanted to lose time finding a page-marker, because faster I finished the chore I would run back to the reading and search a page-marker would take more of my time" and notes mean "I want to remember that page! Oh no! The characters didn't! *nonconformist writes complaining*" and a broke spine mean "I carried it wherever I went because I kept reading it over and over again and couldn't get out of this book".
The thing is, some people like to take pictures after cry a lot about book (not criticizing, I do it sometimes :p) or do journal about it, but those who have books with wrinkled sheets, yellow or stained pages and covers falling apart, those are the ones that suffers alone, enters completely in the book and leaves their soul in there, a little part of them stays in the story, the same way they'll always carry the story with 'em.
So let's normalize it, let's think about it as passion, not a crime or a horrendous thing.
you know who would get along well?
Number Five and Raphael Santiago.
change my mind.
Just some raw facts
first and foremost, pay attention in class, or at least try to. I spent the majority of my classes browsing through meaningless memes on Pinterest or chatting with my friends, and I regretted it as soon as exams came around.
try doing something physical doing your class, as this reduces the chances of you drifting off and/or losing focus (I personally chose to doodle mindlessly, nothing that involved too much brain power and focus)
all your organization systems fail you
and finding a planning system takes months, but once you find it, STICK TO IT. mine was a hybrid weekly and daily planner with absolutely no other spreads (except a separate calendar). efficient and less time-consuming to make.
you feel motivated in random bursts and will plan out the entirety of your remaining year and then forget about that plan the next day
routines seem appealing as you try to get your life together from the ever-increasing slumps but then your realize they just make everything even more monotonous that they already are
sticky notes are the shit. like seriously. I had sticky notes in my textbooks, past papers, study notes, and even other sticky notes. they’re versatile and a great way to jot down information quickly and right on top of where you want it (a paragraph on your textbook, for examples)
do not rely on just your textbooks, especially since it’s 10 times harder to ask for help (and by the time you get around to meeting your teacher, you might actually forget about it). ask anyone around you for help – friends, family – and use all the resources you have.
online learning resources are astronomically underrated. while I was struggling in multiple subjects all by myself, I decided to expand the resources I used for studying. My favourites through my senior year were:
OpenStax (FREE textbooks on a variety of subjects groups, by Rice University)
Khan Academy (need I say more?)
Crash Course on youtube, especially for AP Exams (I’m not a part of the US education system btw, and the resources I’m mentioning are applicable to everything)
online pdf versions of textbooks
tons of youtube channels (too many to list here,)
use your phone/computer’s night light. trust me it works wonders. plus, it’s cheaper than blue light glasses if you already own a phone/computer (most have it built in). also known as a blue light filter/yellow light.
a little bit of gratitude each week will help you keep your sanity (coming from a former skeptic)
sleepless nights will be common, especially with all the screen time, but you’ll learn to live with that.
and mental health will just go down the drain
but it will all be okay
you get both your grades and confidence high
i speak from experience
For the one millionth time I just finished Radio silence (perfect way to start off pride) and for the millionth time I am crying and for the one millionth time I so badly want the life of Frances and for the one millionth time I have goosebumps.
And every time, I have fallen in love with this story.
go cloud-gazing, lay down in the grass on a sunny day, or empty roads on a rainy day, stare up at the sky and let your mind wander.
read a book so complex that you don't understand anything, fill your arms with scrawled definitions.
writing poems and notes of kindness, hiding them for other people to find and pass along!
read passages of love in another language, untranslated and realise that love can surpass even the greatest of barriers.
find your favourite flower! hunt for it, research it, write an essay on why you love it and how much it means to you!
buy another copy of your favourite book, fill the pages with annotations and give it to a second hand shop for somebody else to experience it the way that you do.
fill a journal with moments of your life, even if you don't think they're very interesting.
listen to music whilst looking at the moon and stars, realising how beautiful life is.
visit an art gallery or a museum near you. become familiar with it, visit it until you know it inside out. make it your special place.
learn the little things about people, including yourself. find their favourite colour and why, find their music taste, their taste in books until you know them perfectly.
the small things! taking sips of warm beverages becomes the most comforting thing, closing your eyes for a moment on a bus and focusing on the lull of movement.
bake/cook your favourite treat. experiment and find the way that makes it taste simply ethereal.
This blog is mainly about love, but you can be in love with life without having a small group of friends or a significant other. You can be content on your own!
Listen to music in your bedroom at full volume in your headphones and dance until the sun goes down. Feel every jump hit your soul. It’s the best feeling.
Watch comedies along and laugh as loud as you want!!
Read books! Annotate them just for yourself or future you.
Write letters to the void or to your past or your future.
Talk to yourself. (I do it all the time! It’s the best and does not mean your lonely or ‘crazy’)
Just live your life without the fear of being alone. Being introverted does not mean your broken. If you don’t like parties, don’t go! Stay home on your own and know that it isn’t a bad thing. Be the person who can be happy on their own.
Everyone wants different things! Some people like talking in big groups and sharing their thoughts whereas others like to keep to themselves. Neither needs changing.
It slaps I’m sorry I only speak the truth
This is what it feels like tbh.
This is the hill I have decided to die on
i needs the sleeps.
