Courtesy of The Philbrook Museum @philbrookmuseum Chilkat blankets are worn by Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian, and other Northwest Coast indigenous people on ceremonial occasions, including dances. Chilkat weaving is one of the most complex weaving techniques in the world. A Chilkat blanket can take a year to weave. Thank you so much for your hospitality, Tulsa Oklahoma. It was a short trip but I’ll be back in September with more time to explore and learn about your history. If you’re in Tulsa please make sure to check out Identity & Inspiration: 20th Century Native American Art (Philbrook Downtown, 116 E. Photo courtesy of: @juwlz82 Question- what are your most memorable moments of your teenage or young adult years? For me it was definitely cruising the boulevard, going on spontaneous drives to the San Gabriel Mountains #SGV (mostly at night ☺️) and going to house parties. What are yours? Have a great weekend everyone!—Guadalupe Rosales (of @veteranas_and_rucas And @map_pointz) #LACMAInstaResidency http://ift.tt/2uokLw7

Most fully developed in 18th-century Britain, the conversation piece was a specific type of group portrait that usually depicted a family involved in some everyday activity. Here, William Hamilton depicts Alexander Masterton and His Wife and Children. Which figure represents you on a #SundayFunday? We would be the snoozing dog. 🐶 💤 http://ift.tt/2sFCJch
It’s West Coast Wednesday kind of day Today I will be posting two of my favorite photos from my Instagram @veteranas_and_rucas and @map_pointz “All pre cellphone and nothing but beepers and pay phones 📟📞☎️ Remember calling that party line or getting the 411 to that after hours?” Here is a photo of Cutie Pie, Go-go and Rush from the party crew, Ladyz of Hellsrebels in 1993 at a pay phone in West Covina. I drove around the East Side today- passed by the Estrada Courts, Whittier Blvd, took a break at El Pino ( a natural landmark that sits on the border of East LA and Boyle Heights) and ended my day looking at the murals in Ramona Gardens. This mural, Virgin de Guadalupe was painted by artist, Armando Cabrera in 1974. People in the neighborhood have created an altar in front of the mural and leave offerings. Virgen de Guadalupe is one of 30 murals on the walls of Ramona Gardens apartment buildings painted by major Chicano artists like Magú, Carlos Almaraz and Judith Hernández. The first mural in Ramona Gardens was painted in 1971.—Guadalupe Rosales (of @veteranas_and_rucas And @map_pointz) #LACMAInstaResidency http://ift.tt/2uTtc0j
Another #2017CollectorsCommittee acquisition: “Kyoto River” by Yamaato Kakurei of the Maruyama School of Painting depicts the tumultuous river Hozugawa with its boulders and swirling vortexes across all 36 feet of two screens. The river is located in the far northwest of Kyoto, in the area known as Arashiyama (Stormy Mountain), one of the legendary scenic sites of Kyoto. #lacma #YamaatoKakurei http://ift.tt/2p8r8kp
