I don't want to be (too much of) an asshole but the whole "I shouldn't have to explain this isn't Stancest" to me is so sad... And frustrating. I genuinely want to ask these people to take a walk with me and show them their own work... Show them the way the characters lounge on one another, how they sleep cuddled together and live in the same house and kiss each other on the cheek and forehead and hold each other in bed... And then ask them "Would you sleep with YOUR sibling like this?"

Genuinely. Would YOU, the artist, sleep with YOUR SIBLING like this? Look. I wish we lived in a big beautiful world where anyone can cuddle with anyone and it doesn't have to mean anything, but we don't LIVE in that world. There is such a thing as couple codding, and the way that the twins get drawn draped over each other, placing their hands on each other's pecks etc etc... This is COUPLE language. Put ANY OTHER CHARACTERS THAT ARE NOT SIBLINGS in this situation and then look me in the eye and tell me that they are not a couple. Stancest does not have to involve SEX if you do not want it to- queer platonic couples are a THING. What you are drawing are queer platonic Stancest. The worst part is there are a lot of artist who draw QPR or nonsexual stancest, who embrace the term without feeling drawn to the sexual side. And I don't want to be like "Back in my day shit was better", but back in my day there wasn't this same violent hatred there was, and people were a bit more ready to be open about liking it. If you look at old Stancest art from when the show was still airing, you'd find pieces with a LOT more attention then they'd ever get now, and I don't think it's just because of lesser audience. I think the GravFalls fandom is thriving. I just think that fandom is so much more widespread and therefore so much more policed then it used to be. Anyway. It sucks, there's no fixing this, but I'm glad the Stancest fandom has gotten a little laugh out of it. But also maybe don't harass people, all right?

now i can't stop thinking about how Stan wrote a whole 'fan-novel' titled the Duke's Temptations.

going on definitions, a Duchess is usually appointed her title by being a wife wife/widow of a Duke or titled by a Queen from being in a royal family. a Duke being, a man of nobility either appointed or inherited as well in the same way. [side note, their greeted as Your Grace]

Stan writes self-insert fanfics with himself and the Duchess in a heated affair, also allegedly writing a fan novel about the Duke being Ford from context clues (see AH's audio & connected post here).

i would like to assume the novel is about the Duke being tempted into an affair with Stan's stablehand self-insert. from a definition standpoint, i'm also lead to believe that in the Duke's Temptations that the Duchess is married to the Duke (otherwise they could be related but I think unlikely for that era's context).

so. what i'm trying to point out is. Stan wrote a fantasy of not being related to his twin brother and then being intimate with a characterized version of him.

which is an objectively incestuous obsessive thing for him to do as a hobby before he opened the portal.

I imagine any fem!Stan as a... femme, so to speak. That’s because I see canon Stan’s over-the-top, exaggerated masculinity as largely performative; he wants to please Filbrick, to be a “manly man,” tough and aggressive, because that’s how his father and society (especially in his formative years) thought that all men should be. Fem!Stan, then, to me, would fall straight into the opposite category: she would start to perform hyperfemininity, instead! That’s what would please her father the most, imo, her most useful mask. So, in this way, both Stan and fem!Stan are trying to fit their assigned gender roles the best they can, even if they sometimes (utterly) fail.

I imagine that baby fem!Stan started as tomboyish, but with time, as she grew up, started getting more and more feminine. I headcanon she did theater classes instead of boxing classes (because again, her dad believes 100% in gender roles), and as a result she’s less aggressive and more genuinely charismatic than her canon counterpart. I picture her with long, slightly wavy brown hair, big brown eyes, very curvy and plump, and girly clothing. She has acne too, but she covers it up with makeup.

I have also written a fic in which both Stans are girls, called Queens of New Jersey, here. In QNJ, their physical appearance is a little more described, and my descriptions of fem!Stan’s (Melanie) can easily be applied to my fem!Stan (Stefanie) in the AU where Ford is still a man.

For context, my fem!Stan in QNJ is called Melanie, nickname Mel. My fem!Ford is called Melinda, nickname Linda. All the excerpts below are from Linda’s POV.

Baby fem!Stan (the tomboy):

Unlike Linda, who took secret pride in her long twin-braided hair, Mel could actually be mistaken by a boy if not for the too delicate facial features and high-pitched voice, not to mention the most recent development Linda was trying very hard not to think about. Her short curly hair, the fact she only ever wore pants or shorts and dirty sneakers, and her brash, bold as brass behavior were all indicative of her endearing (in Linda’s admittedly, shamelessly biased opinion) boyish character.

Her small, slender arms concealed a physical strength Linda wished would be useful against their bullies. It wasn’t, of course, since their tormentors were mostly girls and everyone knew girls—well-bred girls—didn’t beat each other up, but it never failed to impress her. Mel was a rowdy little tomboy, no doubt about it, and as such would always look the part.

Teen fem!Stan (hyperfeminine):

Sometimes she missed the old Melanie.

The little girl who didn’t care for skirts and make-up, all dirty nails and scraped knees, popsicle juice dribbling messily down her chin. A missing tooth instead of lipsticked lips, a bandage on her cheek instead of soft pinkish blush. She had been oh so much easier to understand, effortlessly in sync with Linda as twins should always be.

This Melanie was a new creature entirely. Even after almost two years, Linda still couldn’t get used to its strange habits.

Ooh, perhaps... There seems to be a lot of people curious about it... But I can’t promise anything because honestly there’s so much I want to write!

1) BW!Ford (who lost his own Stan) kidnaps our Stan in his craycray grief; 2) amnesiac/memoryless Stan (who didn’t recover his memories after Weirdmaggedon) still sails away on their boat with (a very guilty, very lovesick, and, if I manage to do it right, very sympathetic) Ford as his husband; 3) vampire researcher!Ford invites human mullet!Stan to GF to take away his journal but loses control of his thirst... among other possibilities. I’m thinking of perhaps writing drabbles!

But if you want to know what would (or will, once/if I write it) happen... The trigger warnings in the tags apply to the text below the cut!

Stefanie... blames herself, the poor girl. If her brother is misogynistic, then she suffers with internalized misogyny, just as much.

She always saw her brother as an awkward, sexless, virgin nerd, just as Ford tells us—he’s an unreliable narrator, of course, but in this he was 100% right! She did not see him as A Manly Man, but as a boy interested only in books and science. Sure, he might have had the occasional incident with a kissing robot (a silly reference to extra canon material, hahah), but that was all innocent. Her brother is Not Like The Other Boys. Her brother can’t even hold eye contact with girls! She’s very protective of him.

Stefanie, on the other hand... she seduced her poor, innocent brother with her irresistible feminine wiles. She dragged him into the dark world of sexual desire. She was to blame for him doing this to her, robbing him of his purity by being too slutty and exposing herself like that in front of him. Now her brother will never be the same anymore, and she is to blame!

Ford, meanwhile, does not relish in her guilt. He loves her, after all. But he is still relieved she doesn’t blame him! He tries to comfort her by proving to her that it was nothing she did or said, it was just their inevitable destiny. It was biology. She was made to fit him and she should embrace it!

I’m debating with myself if getting the poor girl pregnant (out of that first time) is Too Much. If you think it’s Too Much, then it doesn’t happen, but if you’re into it, then she has one more thing to deal with, especially under Filbrick’s roof, while Ford gets all proud of himself and possessive... (All of this is already highly self-indulgent, anyway. I don’t think her reaction is necessarily a very realistic one, but it’s the most fun for this AU!)
