72 Genii or Names or angels of God

“Early Kabalist practitioners reported that after periods of meditating upon the Hebrew alphabet, the letters came to life and began talking. After a few years of saving Amazon credit and waiting for a copy that wasn’t $1000 or more, I finally bought the Dictionary of Occult, Hermetic and Alchemical Sigils by Fred Gettings. Gettings is a bit of an enigma, but he wrote that Dictionary of Demons that Kaneko is confirmed to have owned and potentially used when designing SMT1′s demons. This book is the rarest of Gettings’ works, it seems to have only received two (small) printings in the 80s, and was originally printed in 1981.

I wanted this for exactly its purported function: To be able to decipher the symbols within demon seals, like Stolas’ above, in addition to being an ultimate reference for any future projects. I’m pretty sure the seals might still be nonsense, but at least I know the symbols they contain aren’t, and a lot of them appear to be derived from alchemy. So much of the book is entirely inscrutable! I love it.

Hell of a day to receive it, too. If the earth yawns forth untold legions of demon armies, it wasn’t me, it was that other guy!!!

Black Magic Seals

Agares - Provides knowledge of all tongues, brings back runaways or can prevent desertion, can cause earthquakes, and bring about the downfall of important men causing them to lose their position, public honor, and respect of others.

Aim - He spreads destruction by means of fire. Also teaches cunning and shrewdness, and will answer questions of things unknown.

Alloces - A warrior who may be sent to revenge yourself from secret enemies.

Andras - Very destructive, he can bring ruin to an enemy in the twinkling of an eye, causing him financial havoc and personal despair.

Andrealphus - Can transform humans into birds at will. Also teaches mathematics.

Andromalius - Knows all—recovers lost articles, finds money, and reveals any secret plots of intrigues planned against the possessor.

Asmoday - Confers invisibility, answers any questions, and enables the petitioner to know the innermost thoughts of those he meets.

Bathin - Transports one from one place to another at the speed of light by supernatural means. Tells the virtues of all stones and herbs.

Bifrons - Can move corpses magically, and coerce spirits of the dead to assist the magician or answer inquiries. Is capable of enlightening one on astrology, mathematics, herbs, and stones.

Camio - Will teach the tongues of all animals so that they may be understood, and can also reveal the mysteries and secrets of the other worlds.

Corcell - Produces great noises, confusion, and indecisiveness in one’s foes. Gives knowledge of geometry, art, literature, history.

Dantalion - Produces hallucinations in others if requested, influencing the minds of men against their will and without their knowledge. He can reveal the innermost thoughts and desires of others.

Decarabia - Knows all pertaining to the powers of plants and stones.

Focator - Causes winds to blow, ships to sink, and death by drowning.

Furfur - Bestows love of battle, causes thunder and lightning, and can reveal the secret thoughts of others.

Glasya-Labolas - Can cause murder and death, make men invisible. He knows all ancient wisdom and occult secrets, can teach all sciences.

Malphas - It is claimed that he helped Solomon build many things. Causes anything to be made by magical forces.

Murmur - Causes souls of the dead to appear and answer any questions the petitioner may ask. Also teaches philosophy.

Ose - Transforms the petitioner into any form he desires. Will bring delusions and insanity to others if asked, and the person affected will not be aware that he has been changed.

Paimon - Confers upon the magician the power to influence and control those he wishes to subjugate. Will produce familiars to serve the possessor, and can bring any honor desired upon one.

Purson - Tells past and future, reads the thoughts of others and conveys the message to the possessor.

Raum -  Creates love and reconciles enemies. Can also demolish a reputation, destroy property, and will steal money to bring to the possessor.

Ronove - Teaches languages, and humbles an enemy who does not show partiality toward the petitioner.

Sabnock - Can cause wounds not to heal, arguments to inflame, and turn a small dispute into a full-scale battle. He controls military camps and protects soldiers.

Samiginia - Gives account of the dead souls that died in sin, and teaches all liberal sciences.

Seere - Controls time to suit himself and the wishes of the sorcerer who calls upon him. Can cause things to happen instantly magically.

Shax - Can cause one to become deaf, dumb, or blind. Will steal money or possessions, and can lead the way to almost any hidden things or stolen goods. Can create a familiar to assist the owner.

Sitri - The Prince of love and lust. Will cause any man to love a woman, or any woman to desire a man. Compels women to display themselves in the nude to the one who calls him. 

Valefor - In charge of occult medicine, curing all ills magically. Can make a man skilled with his hands and sharp with his brains. Can change men into animals at will.

Vepar - Controls the sea. Can cause storms, death, and disaster.

Vine - The only spirit which will tell a magician the identity of other sorcerers and witches. Knows ail secrets and can destroy the enemy or defend the magician against the attacks of others.

Zagan - Can change liquids—water into wine, wine into blood. He can bring to one’s mind the humor and wit in all happenings.

How to Meet Your Ancestors

Whether or not they were witches, and whatever religion they used to believe in, their souls are likely to be alive somewhere, waiting to be of some use again. If you summon them wholeheartedly, they will heed your call earnestly.

STEP 1: Know who they are.

When you invoke someone without knowing their name, nearby malevolent forces will feel entitled to accept your invitation on their behalf.

Make sure you know the full name of at least one of your grandparents, so you can call on those who came before them.

STEP 2: Summon them.

Go somewhere private and quiet. Let the strength of your intention fuel your invocation. Speaking from your heart, say in your own words:

“My name is [your full name]. I call upon the founders of my lineage. Those who made the birth of [name/s of your direct grandparent/s] possible. From this moment on, I welcome your guidance in my life. I hope you deem this child worthy of your advice.”

STEP 3A: Look upon them.

If you wish to see their faces, travel to a different plane.

It may take you more than one attempt to succeed. But with patience and focus, there is no way you will fail.

STEP 3B: Talk to them.

If you need their advice urgently, use your tarot cards and simply ask them directly. This is something you can do as often as you need to.

Once you and they have formed an affinity, achieving the previous step successfully may suddenly prove to be easy.

STEP 4: Thank them.

To maintain a relationship with your ancestors, build them a shrine. Not to worship them, but to express your gratitude for their help.

If you do not have portraits, use items that represent them. A flower… a figurine… a trinket… whatever reminds you of their presence. Leave them an offering after every encounter, or do it periodically, like weekly or monthly.

Alive or dead, we all like to feel appreciated.

We have an exchange here talking about [the first sonnet of Dante Alighieri’s La Vita Nuova], which, of course, is reflected in what Hannibal says. He’s actually kind of talking about Clarice, if you listen to this speech. [Allegra]’s more cynical. She expresses this when she asks him that question. I think this is always him talking about Clarice. Most people missed that, but that’s what it is. I felt the underlying emotion of this film is affection. And in some instances you might even wonder, certainly from one direction, is it more than affection? It is dark because the story, of course, is essentially dark, but it’s kind of romantic at the same time. - Ridley Scott

It’s a haunting story and my ambition’s been that the music will be haunting. The great thing about this film is that you can literally read a million different versions of messages, of subtext, of substance into each scene. I can score this movie as an archetype of Freudian beauty-and-the-beast type fairy tale. I can score this as a horror movie. I can score this as a treatise on corruption in the American police force. I can score it as the loneliest woman on Earth. I can score this as the beauty of the Renaissance. I can do all these different things in each scene and I have to make up my mind: where do I want to see the character at which moment in time? I’ve come from this idea that it should really be a love story. But it can be a dark love story. I think using the word “passion” in its truest sense. I mean, [Hannibal and Clarice] are two people that should never be together. This is Romeo and Juliet, and so I’ve done a modern-day Romeo and Juliet. - Hans Zimmer
