Remember That If You Want To Do More Of Something, You Have To Do Less Of Something Else. It's That Time

Remember that if you want to do more of something, you have to do less of something else. It's that time of year where people set goals for the new year and they have plans and hopes and it's always focusing on what they want to do more of. More studying, more exercise, more crafting, more socialising, more making things from scratch. Okay, great. What are you going to do less of in order to have the time and energy to do more of those things you really want to do?

Do y’all know where the phrase “eat the rich” comes from or do you just repeat it cause you heard it elsewhere?

It’s not a bad thing, I just saw someone say “we never said who would eat the rich” and realized a lot of y’all might not have heard the full quote

It’s from Rousseau and it’s “When the people shall have nothing more to eat, they will eat the rich"

And, well, there’s a lot of people with nothing to eat…

@nutmegan17 on tiktoks eating tray hack

By keeping a tray full of no prepare necessary food, in the fridge it can be used to aid neurodivergent or fatigued people.

By putting food like, cheese and crackers, or whatever is a safe food for you personally on the tray, it can be taken easily to the couch or bed to be eaten from whenever you are hungry.

This prevents executive dysfunction or fatigue and any reason preventing you from eating. You need to care of yourself because everyone needs food to stay alive including you.

You deserve to eat even when on a bad brain day and are unable to prepare a meal for yourself.

If not having a full meal doesn't satisfy you, a snack may even give you the energy to make a full meal afterwards!

Hello everyone! I'd like to present to you:

Solarpunk daylight setting system!!!

What is this? This is a way of categorizing and defining solarpunk futures by how far in the future they are by using the natural daylight concept!

The Solarpunk daylight system is supposed to help define your setting, but it's not supposed to limit you in any way!!! It's also supposed to make it easier to search for particular settings in stories :D

🌱Morning Solarpunk 🌄

(Today or Seedling Solarpunk)

Morning Solarpunk resembles the world of today, it resembles the sprouts of solarpunk in societies and our current struggle under capitalism, it resembles the beginning of change.

Morning solarpunk can be happening in twenty-first century or prior.

Defining elements:

Everything you can do today to be solarpunk is what morning solarpunk is! Visibly mended clothing and tools, art on the streets in all forms, guerrilla gardening and permaculture gardens, communities uniting and people joining climate action.

Hello Everyone! I'd Like To Present To You:

Peaceful Anarchist, Violent World by kayas-kosmos

🪴Noon Solarpunk ☀️

(Tomorrow or Flowering Solarpunk)

Noon solarpunk resembles post-capitalist world or world where significant effort in abolishing capitalism is done. Things are already better, but the scars of the old world are still visible.

Noon Solarpunk is supposed to show us better times and answer the question, what happens on the next day after revolution and in the following years.

Defining elements:

Taking lots of stuff from morning solarpunk and making them more pronounced, repurposed old infrastructure, we can see new solarpunk architecture (sustainable and integrated into nature) appearing, all tech is powered by renewable energy and easily repairable, community gardens everywhere.

Hello Everyone! I'd Like To Present To You:

Art by mimiitambonne

🌻Evening Solarpunk 🌇

(The day after tomorrow or Ripening Solarpunk)

Evening solarpunk resembles late stage solarpunk world, pure science fiction! This is stories of our successors and how they are living in new refined world!

Defining elements:

Defined by being futuristic, practically unrecognizable from modern age, new hi-tech solarpunk technologies (low tech stuff still exists btw), go as CRAZY as you CAN to show marvelous bright future!

Hello Everyone! I'd Like To Present To You:

Art by thalieshelen

Things are bound to change and get more refined, please submit your ideas on how this system can be improved! :D

‘While bats can only sense the outer shapes and textures of their targets, dolphins can peer inside theirs. If a dolphin echolocates on you, it will perceive your lungs and your skeleton. It can likely sense shrapnel in war veterans and fetuses in pregnant women. It can pick out the air-filled swim bladders that allow fish, their main prey, to control their buoyancy.

It can almost certainly tell different species apart based on the shape of those air bladders. And it can tell if a fish has something weird inside it, like a metal hook. In Hawaii, false killer whales often pluck tuna off fishing lines, and “they’ll know where the hook is inside that fish,” Aude Pacini, who studies these animals, tells me. “They can ‘see’ things that you and I would never consider unless we had an X-ray machine or an MRI scanner.”

This penetrating perception is so unusual that scientists have barely begun to consider its implications. The beaked whales, for example, are odontocetes that look dolphin-esque on the outside—but on the inside, their skulls bear a strange assortment of crests, ridges, and bumps, many of which are only found in males.

Pavel Gol’din has suggested that these structures might be the equivalent of deer antlers—showy ornaments that are used to attract mates. Such ornaments would normally protrude from the body in a visible and conspicuous way, but that’s unnecessary for animals that are living medical scanners.’

I hate the concept of working and no I am not weird

I have always felt, that the concept of work is strange. You spent the best years of your life away from people you love, from your home and you have only very limited time to do things, that you like. You are stressed, worried, angry. (Yeah sure, there are people who genuinely love what they do and love to process and you know what good for them, I am just not one of them.) I have never been particularly tough. Stress gets me fast. I cry. People stress the fuck out of me. But in every part-time job, that I had I had to work with people and it was just killing me inside. I am now a self-employed language teacher and even though I studied for that and all that I still hate it. No shame. I just hate spending hours every day doing the same fucking thing. Yeah, some of the students are really lovely and I genuinely like our lessons, but some are just energy sucking vampires. But bills need to be paid right.  Last week I had a bit of a mental breakdown over a work email. I just felt if this is going to be like this for the rest of my working life I seriously want to kill myself. I can’t tough it out. I can’t muddle through. I want something different.

I don’t buy much. I buy food, occasional treat, dinner. Tickets. Bills are paid. If I would be able to grow more food by myself, that’s less money I have to spend on food and more money I would have left for the rest. I could work now and then. Not every day. I could actually enjoy my life. But when you tell this to people they freak the fuck out. Call you crazy. You really want to make as little money as possible? You are so smart you can make a lot of money! Well, I don’t want to. I don’t need to travel, I don’t want 2 weeks of paid leave every year. I don’t need new iPhones, SHein bullshit and ugly overpriced shoes. I just want to be free and do what I love. No I don’t want to work. No I am not weird.

I really think one of the best things we can do as people is just get more comfortable with embarrassment. Yes, it's an unpleasant emotion, but we gotta learn to let it pass over us and move on. The longer I'm alive the more clear it is to me how much harm we do just because we're embarrassed. How many parents punish their kids needlessly and/or super severely just because the parent feels embarrassed by the child's harmless behavior? We have to recognize that being embarrassed does not entitle us to harm others. Alongside this though, we have an obligation to each other to lower the stakes of embarrassment. Offer grace to each other. Stop filming people in public. Stop making fun of harmless cringe.

Executive Function is the part of your brain that clicks on when you think "I should do this" and you then do it.

"I should do the dishes" •click, green light, does the dishes•

"I should pick that up and throw it in the bin" •click, green light, goes over, picks it up, throws it in the bin•

"I should take a shower" •click, green light, takes a shower"

When you are suffering from executive dysfunction, that switch doesn't work the same as it does for "normal" people.

"I should do the dishes" •click.... click..... click, click, clickclickclickclickclick.... red light, doesn't walk over and start the tap to do the dishes•

"I should pick that up and throw it in the bin" •click, yellow light, task saved until later, memory purge•

"I really, REALLY have to take a shower!" •click-ck-ck-ck-ck-ck-ck... red light, anxiety• "I HAVE to! I can't be outside if I don't shower!" •click.... red light•

Sometimes, you have to force yourself to overcome it, you have to go in there and manually wrench the entire system into green light.

And people can do this, from outside, it doesn't look like anything.

But you know that time you forced yourself to do something that was so far beyond anything you wanted to do that you were completely mentally drained? (Broke up with someone, confessed to something bad, swallowed pride and asked for help etc)

That can be exactly what a person with executive dysfunction experiences when they force themselves to do the dishes. It isn't always that hard, but it can be.

Like trying to purposefully slam your hand in a door or jump off a legit scary height into water that you can't bring yourself to do.

It's a mental illness that can be just as crippling as a physical disability.

And when people say "get over it", it's not like we've tried.

It's just that, you know.

"Get over it"

•click.... click..... click.... click-ck-ck... .... .... red light.•
This exact system also applies to things you WANT to do. When I finally have free time after work and my brain says, hey! We have some time. Let's play video games.

The input for playing video games tries to trigger over and over and over again. I want to play games. It's low effort. It's fun. I enjoy it. Hell, I know I'll enjoy it when I get started but that "on" switch never triggers and I sit there, blank face, usually staring at my phone. Next thing I know, I've wasted all the time I had free and have to do something else, like make dinner.

This is one of the best explanations of executive dysfunction I've read, as someone who suffers from it. People who don't have it really don't understand how challenging it is to want to do something but then getting roadblocked by your own mind.

I’m a young-adult woman with the hopes of becoming a well-known writer. I’m a dreamer, a music lover and a chaotic human being, curious about what the future will bring but without any idea of what to do with it. As for this tumblr, we’ll see. I will make an attempt to make an interesting place but for now I still have to figure out what to do with it.
