I might have to make a Chemistry (by Weike Wang) AU for Clive and Jason. A short one, but an AU where Jason asks Clive to marry him.
(I’ve only read the sample on Amazon because I am waiting to go to a book store to buy it but I think it kinda fits. I like the analytical-ness of the narrator)
And then it ends, all of us wondering if they work it out. Lol jk
Jason reads it. He reads it three times. And then again.
By now he’d already figured Clive has feelings for him, or at least bad. He’d thought they’d been a happily married couple. Which is insane considering the things Jason would want to do if he could…
The report is an open window to Clive’s heart. It’s vulnerability on a paper. Jason feels heartbroken anew, and hopeful.
He asks around, but Clive isn’t in today either. He’d slipped in just to drop off the report. Luckily, he still has the key to Clive’s- or well, both of their- place. He leaves, only telling Farrah and Belinda that he’ll be back. He skips his linear algebra class.
Clive is at home, eating a burnt egg.
“That does not look appetizing.”
“Someone made frozen food unbearable.”
A modern day AU where Clive is a lonely researcher and Jason works part time at a dumpling soup shop and at an office supply store.
Clive only goes out for three things - food, office supplies, and basic necessities. Somehow he runs into Jason doing all three of these. And somehow, the chef/server who will let Clive rant about his research, coworkers, the university (all while looking very interested), remembers his name and says hi to him every time they see each other.
The title is “Talk Astral Magic to Me.”
Maybe it’s pre magical disaster earth where it’s still mostly under wraps but Jason somehow finds out. Clive is one of those people intent on figuring out how to level up without monster cores (he hates the icky feeling of monster core auras).
My other ideas were vaguely:
Following the plot of the books from a pining Clive perspective (but that would be LONG)
Outworlders are much more rare and Jason gets kidnapped by the Magic society for research soon after getting his essences. Clive, being their lead Astral Magic researcher, gets put onto studying him but has (obvious) ethical concerns and breaks him out.

I finally have more power than I ever dreamed possible, but I’m still riding the high of righteous battles where I was the underdog so I don’t realize how awful I am being towards people below me in power.
Literally. Clive has barely any interest in anyone or anything else 😭

The report is perfectly formatted in APA. It’s creative, witty, and a little cheesy. A literature review of poetry or quotes that reminded Jason of Clive and figures that include text message conversations with Farrah and his other friends. A conclusion that Jason is an idiot and deserves to be in the dog house but truly wants to be in Clive’s life.
Clive reads it again. And again. He picks up his phone, stares at it, and then falls asleep on the couch with it clutched in his hands, the corners wrinkled from how much he’d flipped through it. He doesn’t touch the dinner Jason left, outside of putting it in the fridge (because he would never disrespect Jason’s food by letting it go bad) and doesn’t even bother changing outside of the clothes he’d worn to the university.
The next day, he does something he hasn’t done in years. He calls in sick.

I have to write progress reports for just south of 100 students but all I wanna do is write 😭
Jason keeps wanting to sit them down for a talk, but Clive keeps avoiding it. He even starts telling Belinda to lead Jason in what to do in the lab- he starts respecting the hierarchy where the PhDs and postdocs are supposed to be guiding him.
I feel like Jason sets up a trap (poorly conceived plan) where he sets up a giant dinner. Gets candles and makes all of Clive’s favorite foods. He prints out his old text conversations with Farrah about liking him.
Farrah is adamant against this plan, but Jason gets Belinda to send Clive home early one day.

I can envision him both speaking his mind and being quiet about it. Like “I see, you do not see me as a husband, but as a roommate,” and nothing after that. Then he distances himself. Starts buying more frozen dinners and sending Jason home early.

anyways. thinking about essence users who, after ranking up, lose that scar on their ribs they looked at fondly because it's a remnant of the time spent playing with their younger siblings. that facial quirk their spouse fell in love with disappearing to make them 'perfect'. not recognising themselves in the mirror because their skin hasn't been this smooth since they were a child. essence users who think that getting powers will help their chronic pain, only for it to be replaced by the mana pain. just. like. magic robbing the users of themselves.
ASL Apocalypse AU
I was looking through old art and i found a page of those outfits for Sabo and Ace and i knew what i had to do cuz those fits are super cute. I did add a bunch of details, but as a whole, those are the original designs. No i will NOT share this old art , if anyone asks, they will be sent to The Dungeon.

I dont know what caused the apocalypse in this universe, probably some kind of nuke or something.
Ace and Sabo knew eachother before the fallout, they were both 10 at the time. They found Luffy, or should I say Luffy found them, afterwards. I think the story would be essentially the same as their original plot. I just think that sabo “dying” wouldnt happen, and he just wouldve gotten that scar from the event that caused the apocalypse. Although, if it was a nuke that caused everything, the people who signed off on dropping the nuke could still be the celestial dragons in this case, so sabo would still get that scar from em!
I imagine these guys fightin people for abandoned convenience store resources, making tarp camps for themself, helping weary travelers on their way, and finding new clothes on dead people… yeesssss… aesthetic…
