Clive, hurt, “you didn’t tell me.” 🥺

It’s the way Jason and Clive are in so in sync. Not even Farrah knew what was going on.

They go on like this for MONTHS, both pining while also spending all their time together. Jason making breakfast, going to the university together, Jason working at Clive’s lab between classes, Clive or Belinda teaching Jason how the technology they use work, then going home together and eating dinner. The only alone time they get is late at night in bed. Eventually Jason even becomes Clive’s TA.

The routine continues until it’s time to start thinking about publication. Everything is a mess. They arrive home later and later, bringing more and more work home with them. Then one night they’re seated on the newly cleaned couch (Jason has set strict rules on book and paper placement) while reviewing the figures for their paper and Clive starts to nod off.

He falls asleep on top of Jason… and Jason enjoys it. Too exhausted to moralize, he stays with Clive asleep on top of him while he organizes sources for a literature review, and then he falls asleep as well.

He wakes up in the morning feeling like a piece of shit while Clive acts like it’s completely normal.

A modern day AU where Clive is a lonely researcher and Jason works part time at a dumpling soup shop and at an office supply store.

Clive only goes out for three things - food, office supplies, and basic necessities. Somehow he runs into Jason doing all three of these. And somehow, the chef/server who will let Clive rant about his research, coworkers, the university (all while looking very interested), remembers his name and says hi to him every time they see each other.

Jason: Clive blushed when I told him I made his favorite food. Do you think he likes me too?

Farrah: Taika went three times last night instead of two. Do you think that means something?

Taika and Farrah fucking in the background while Clive and Jason are dancing around each other lol. They basically spend every free hour together. Jason goes to class, then Clive’s lab as a research assistant, then they go home together, Jason makes dinner and their lunch for tomorrow, and they fall asleep.

Clive occasionally helps Jason with his homework, Jason makes sure Clive doesn’t fall asleep and drool all over his books. Clive has never been so healthy. They almost forget that they met on a date.

YES!!!!

Clive proposes before their fifth date… a marriage of convenience. It honestly takes a bit to convince Jason, but in the end it’s a courthouse wedding, with a small after ceremony at their friends’ and families’ insistence. They put up a bit of an act for their families (and I imagine Clive very visibly does NOT like Kaito).

Jason ends up moving in with Clive, it’s closer to the university and bigger. Only to be met with a horrific sight. Instant meals crowd the fridge, notes and books left everywhere except for a small spot on the couch and the bed, Clive uses 2 in one shampoo!

Jason gets directions to Clive’s lab from Farrah to bring him food because he tends to lock himself away without any concern for health. While he’s there he actually helps to solve the issue Clive has been dealing with. (Clive doesn’t even know how far gone he is at this point)

Clive asks Jason to join his lab but Jason doesn’t have his bachelors degree.

Belinda has to trick Clive to go on the date by taking him to the dumpling soup spot (his favorite restaurant btw) and tell him it’s a date at the last minute before ditching. But! Lo and behold it’s with the one person who can ask about his research and already has the background of knowledge of what it’s about.

Jason who has also been secretly going home and researching the topic because he’s curious and perpetually hungry for knowledge.

The way a student of mine tried to argue that he didn’t need to learn how to read outside of the basics because “it’s not necessary anymore. We have AI.” He had a whole (obviously poorly worded, he couldn’t use AI when talking to me) speech.

I’m seriously concerned about my students. They’re 14-15 and a lot of them are bordering on illiterate. Their English teacher plays the audiobooks for their assigned reading to them because there’s no other way to keep the stuff that they do “at grade level.” They simply refuse to read because it’s SO HARD for them (and some just can’t.)

Building Number Twenty-Seven

Summary:

Everyone was watching him, and it made him cry even harder. He was angry at himself. They were staring because he was crying. If he stopped crying, they would stop staring. He knew that. He wanted them to stop staring. But he couldn’t ever make his body do what it was supposed to. He tried his best to avoid getting snot on his shirt. He was pretty sure it was his only shirt, now. He didn’t want it to be all snotty.

This is the story of Clive’s first monster surge, when his family took shelter in the Geller Estate.

Today, I happened to come across my first ever piece of serious writing from 2020. It was a Harry Potter fanfiction, and, at the time, was a piece longer than I ever could've dreamed of writing, sitting at around 77 pages in Google Docs. I read about the first ten pages, and OH BOY was it ROUGH.

But, I almost really like the idea that it was so bad. That piece of writing is five years old, and was when I first began by journey as a creative writer. In a way, the idea that it was bad was almost comforting, because I get to see how much I've truly changed and grown.

I looked at this piece of writing compared to one of my most recent fanfictions, and the difference is IMMACULATE in just the first two paragraphs. My old writing was heavily dialogue driven, contained so little detail, and felt rather bland, especially in terms of a character's emotions and actions. Now, I'm watching how detailed I am with each of my sentences, and how much attention I'm putting into each character. I can see where younger me was lacking, and where older me has recognized and fixed those holes and has grown beyond where I ever could've dreamed.

I think that, as writers, we often tend to lose track of how much we progress as we practice. It's really easy to get lost in the issues or problems we're having now, and neglect to think about how far we've truly come. We continue to focus on the negative instead of the positive; the future we want instead of where we were in the past.

My point is this: if at any moment you start to doubt your writing, or just think nothing is improving, go back and look at your old pieces. Don't change anything and just read through them. It's probably going to be really difficult, but it just shows how much you've grown and how much progress you've made over the course of your journey. I think you'll find that your writing has changed a lot more than you thought, and that, despite what you believe, you really have grown.

Instead of being embarrassed by your older pieces, use them to motivate you. Think about how much younger you would be shocked at how far you are right now, and just how proud they would be of you. You are currently at the position where younger you could only dream of being. And it's only going to go up from here 💖

Eight-page One Piece fancomic, Pre and Post Dressrosa PAGE 1 [Panel 1] At night, before a bright full moon, Law stands at the railing of the Thousand Sunny, looking out over the sea with his back to the viewer. [Panel 2] Luffy approaches Law from behind, his back also to the viewer. Law hears him coming and, without looking back at Luffy, says, “You should be sleeping.” [Panel 3] Luffy steps up behind him, leaning playfully to the side with his arms folded behind his back, and says, “And you should be too, Torao.” Law continues to look out over the sea. [Panel 4] Luffy leans against the railing, his hair and face glowing a little in the moonlight as he says, “You’re always out here thinking too hard.” [Panel 5] The angle changes, so the viewer sees both Law and Luffy’s back and the huge, full moon glowing between them. Law has turned his head subtly towards Luffy, and Luffy asks, “What’cha thinking about?”
PAGE 2 [Panel 1] The panel shows a close up of Law’s hand, his arms folded across his chest and the tattoos across one hand clear in the moonlight. His face can’t be seen as he says, “You.” Luffy, from off panel, asks, “Oh?” He laughs. “Shi shi shi. What about me?” [Panel 2] Law’s hand tightens on his sleeve as he answers, “You. What you mean to me.” [Panel 3] Luffy in profile, alone in the panel, casts a sidelong look. He doesn’t say anything, but he looks contemplative. [Panel 4] The viewer sees Law and Luffy face-forward for the first time, both of them washed in bright moonlight. Law, with his arms still crossed and his head turned away from Luffy, seems uncomfortable with the direction the conversation has taken as he asks, “What does this alliance mean for you?” Luffy, with his arms crossed on the railing, asks, “What do you mean ‘what does it mean?’” [Panel 5] An establishing shot showing the rigging of the Sunny. Luffy, off-panel, says, “It means we’re gonna take down Mingo.” [Panel 6] Another establishing shot, this one showing the tree and swing on the lawn of the sunny. Luffy, still off-panel, says, “And after that, Kaido.” [Panel 7] The viewer sees Law and Luffy against the railing again. Law has uncrossed his arms, but he’s still looking away from Luffy while Luffy leans toward him and grasps Law’s forearm with firm confidence as he says, “Whatever you need, Torao. We’ll do it together.”
PAGE 3 [Panel 1] Law, facing the camera, looks somewhat uncomfortably as he looks down at Luffy’s hand which is still gripping his arm. [Panel 2] Law raises his eyes to look straight at Luffy (which, in this panel, is also straight at the viewer) as he asks, “And what if I need you for more than just fighting?” [Panel 3] The view changes to a wider view of the deck, with Law and Luffy connected by Luffy’s hand still on Law’s arm and the full moon in the distance framed perfectly between them. Luffy answers, “Then I’ll fight whatever Torao needs. Even himself.” Law protests, “You make it sound simple.” But Luffy assures him, “It is simple. You’re my friend, Torao. And I’m always gonna be here for you.” [Panel 4] Luffy moves closer to Law and now holds both of his forearms. He’s looking up at Law with a serious, determined expression. Law, now obscuring part of the moon, says, “I… I don’t want you to just be here for me. Not just as… a friend.” [Panel 5] A close-up of Law’s eyes. His expression looks hard, serious. Off-panel, Luffy says, “Torao… if you need something more, then tell me. I’ll figure it out.” [Panel 6] A close-up of Luffy’s eyes. He also looks serious, his brow furrowed. Off-panel, Law says, “You can’t just--you don’t understand.” [Panel 7] A close up of Law and Luffy in profile, their faces close together but their height difference pronounced. Luffy says, “Then make me understand.”
PAGE 4 [Panel 1] The camera turns to show Law’s back. His shoulders are hunched, his arms bent, and though his head is mostly obscuring Luffy’s, it’s obvious that Law has kissed Luffy. Luffy’s hands hover just over Law’s waist, his fingers splayed apart--he’s surprised by the kiss, and his body hasn’t reacted just yet. In the background, the full moon casts a bright reflection on the sea below and the two captains. [Panel 2] A close-up of Luffy’s left hand, moving as though to touch Law’s waist. [Panel 3] A close-up of Law’s right eye, closed tightly. [Panel 4] A close-up of Law’s right eye, opening wide--he’s realized what he’s just done. [Panel 5] Law and Luffy in profile, now with space between them because Law has retreated quickly. His body language is tight and awkward, his shoulders pulled up to his ears and his eyes wide as he stammers, “I-I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have--that was--“ Luffy looks surprised, but before he can respond, Law says, “Shambles,” and the page fades to black.
PAGE 5 [Panels 1, 2, 3] The black fades away, slowly revealing Dressrosa’s sunflower field. [Panel 4] Luffy is standing in the sunflower field, wrapped in bandages with his arms crossed in front of his chest. He grins at the viewer as he says, “You’re thinking too much again, huh?” [Panel 5] The view widens, showing the stone hut the Straw Hats stayed in after the fight with Doflamingo. Law, also bandaged up, is standing near the hut with his back to the viewer as he grips his right shoulder with his left hand. He’s looking away from Luffy as he says, “I’m sorry. For what I did. On the Sunny.” [Panel 6] Luffy, drawn as a chibi, cocks his head cartoonishly to the side and raises an eyebrow. A question mark appears next to his head as he asks, “Hah?” [Panel 7] Law, turning his head so the viewer can see the bandage on his cheek, scowls at Luffy. “For kissing you!” he exclaims. Luffy, mostly off-panel except for the back of his bandaged head, asks, “Oh, is that all?” [Panel 8] The angle changes so now Law is mostly off-panel except for the back of his head. Luffy is grinning widely at him, his face scrunched up from how big his smile is as Law demands, “What do you mean ‘is that all?!’”
PAGE 6 [Panel 1] Luffy, arms spread out wide, starts to fall backwards towards the viewer. Law watches, looking a little startled and alarmed. [Panel 2] In a huge panel that takes up most of the page, the viewer looks down on Luffy who’s spread out on the grass, his hands folded behind his head. He’s grinning up at Law, who’s still standing over him, and looks as if he doesn’t have a care in the world. His straw hat is lying in the grass a few inches above his head. [Panel 3] Law’s alarm grows as Luffy, from off-panel, stretches out a rubbery leg and starts to wrap it around Law’s waist. [Panel 4] Luffy’s leg tightens and he yanks Law forward, dragging him down at breakneck speed while saying, “C’mere, Torao.”
PAGE 7 [Panel 1] The viewer sees Law on his hands and knees over Luffy, both of them shirtless save for their many, many bandages. Luffy still has his hands behind his head and a leg carelessly thrown over Law’s left leg. [Panel 2] A close-up of Law’s face. His eyes are wide and his jaw is slack. He’s blushing. [Panel 3] A close-up of Luffy’s face as he beckons Law closer with a crook of his fingers. He looks up smugly at Law, his grin now turned into a knowing smirk. Like Law, he’s also blushing. [Panel 4] The viewer sees the back of Law’s head and his blushy right ear which are partially obscuring Luffy’s blushing face as they kiss again. [Panel 5] The two separate, so more of Luffy’s face can be seen over Law’s shoulder. He’s beaming, his eyes wide and his face still flushed as he asks, “See?”
PAGE 8 [Full-Page Panel] In the middle of the sunflower field, with the ruins of Dressrosa in the distance, Luffy wraps Law up in his rubbery limbs, clinging to him, and Law cups the top of Luffy’s head tenderly as they kiss again. Luffy teases, “It’s not that scary, right?” His straw hat sits in the foreground, ready for Luffy to recover it when they’re finished.

3 page fancomic for luffy and law from one piece. it takes place in a modern au where law is a coroner and luffy is a forensic entomologist. page 1. panel 1: law is at her desk, anxiously waiting as she dials a number and waits for the phone to ring. she grumbles, "come on, come on," casting a glance back at a corpse surrounded by bugs. panel 2: she's sweating slightly as the person on the other end of the line answers, "hello, you've reached the office of monkey d. forensics." panel 3: the voice calls to mind the image of an anteater, for some reason. law blandly replies, "this is trafalgar from the coroner's office. is luffy available?" panel 4: a close-up of law's office phone. the person on the other end asks, "trafalgar???" completely puzzled by the name.
page 2. panel 1-4: multiple panels of law, her fist balled on her desk. with each passing moment, her frown and blush deepen, until she sighs and tries, "torao?" the other person gasps in instant recognition, "oh! TORAO!" panel 5: it turns out that it's usopp on the other end. he grins smugly and tells law, "yeah, luffy's AVAILABLE," with extra emphasis on the final word. panel 6: usopp says, "please hold," before stage-whispering, "psst! it's HER!" to luffy. luffy stands up quickly, grinning brightly with excitement. panel 7: luffy slams into usopp's desk, grabbing the phone with a loud, "torao!" as usopp flails and falls behind her.
page 3. panel 1: over the phone, law shouts, "i need you!" luffy's face lights up with shock and a blush. usopp's hand twitches from his place on the floor. panel 2: an embarrassed law clarifies, "uh. need your help, i mean," as she rubs the back of her neck with a hand. panel 3: luffy is still grinning as she excitedly asks, "oh, um, what can i do?" usopp flashes her a supportive thumbs-up. panel 4: law grumbles, "BUGS. i've got a body here crawling with way more than i'm equipped to deal with." panel 5: the background is completely dark as luffy's face drops into pure frustration and disappointment. she mumbles, "oh." as she realizes law has called for help with work stuff.

"sanji!" luffy says, "what's for breakfast? i'm starve—" panel 2: luffy cuts off with a loud "WHOA!" as sanji turns around. he looks extremely haggard, with dark circles under his bloodshot eye and unkempt facial hair. panel 3: luffy asks, wide-eyed, "what happened to you?" sanji serves him a plate piled comically high with pancakes and says, "couldn't sleep." panel 4: sanji turns back to his stove. he continues, "because SOMEONE was being louder than a dying sea king!" luffy peeks around him, confused, while shoving a pancake in his mouth. panel 5: luffy's cheeks are puffed full of food as he says, "oops. that was me, wasn't it." panel 6: sanji whips toward him, pointing at luffy. he snaps, "YES! yes, you and—" someone from behind luffy says, "morning." panel 7: law is standing there, looking disturbingly fresh-faced. he has no eyebags and there are sparkles in the air beside him. he says simply, "the bacon smells good." and a furious sanji shrieks, "WHO IS THIS GUY?!"
