Actually Asexual - Blog Posts

I just found out about a subreddit called r/actualasexuals where the whole thing is being a dick to people who don't fit their narrow definition of asexuality. I just wanted to let people know so they can stay away. Of course, don't harass anyone in that sub, because it doesn't help and it's just plain wrong. Just do everything in your power to stay the hell away!

as an asexual person, the explanation listed from that Reddit post was atrocious. That is not what it means at all. I deeply hope they have just explained it wrong and don't actually think what they've said is true. Here's a helpful explanation of why some asexuals still do have sex (I even got it from Reddit to match) :

this exchange between OP & a sane commenter under yet another "I'm asexual but I still like sex sometimes" post is such a perfect example of what I've been talking about. some women nowadays are identifying as asexual because their view of sex has been so horribly warped by porn & misogyny. I mean she is quite literally saying "being asexual gives me an excuse to not have sex w/my partner if I don't want it "...girl you shouldn't need an excuse to not fuck your bf when you aren't in the mood. the validity of your consent is not at all dependant on what label you use! what a fucking horrible sign of the times that young women think they are the abnormal ones for not wanting to give their men an all access pass to their bodies.

Crisis of the Century

So...I identify with aroace, and I fully identify with ace, though there was something about it, that wasn’t 100%. I realize now, that I’m probably gray-romantic. I blame the cute people in my class, though, i also wanna be their friend too. So...yayy...so fun. I think, though, it’s in part because I’ve been wearing transtape, and I’ve been more comfortable in my body, and I feel much more free, so I guess it’s not a surprise that my brain is letting feel this new stuff, granted it rarely happens anyways, so gray-romantic. That’s about it.

I love how I started out writing a comic book, while thinking I must be cis and pan, and now that I’m nearing the end of it, I’m trans, non-binary, and aroace. Granted, before that I thought I was cishet, and kinda just denying way too many fucking things about myself. Upon admitting them through storytelling, I somehow feel much much gayer. This is probably because I feel more comfortable in my skin now. Thank you for my TEDTalk.

what’s the point of the “aro and ace ppl aren’t oppressed!!” card to exclude us?

like first of all, aros and aces ARE oppressed in such an amatonormative world, but even if we weren’t, isn’t it the biggest goal of the lgbtq+ community to not be oppressed one day? we want a world where gay and lesbian people are no longer oppressed, which is a great thing, but when that happens, are we suddenly going to drop them from the community just because they “aren’t oppressed anymore”?

since when has oppression played a part in whether or not someone is queer?? trans women tend to get more shit than trans men even though both are severely oppressed, so are the former somehow more queer than the latter? last time i checked, the answer was, and still is, no...

if you aren’t allocishet, then you can consider yourself a member of the lgbtq+ community; not because of the oppression you face, but because you deviate from the allonormative, amatonormative, monormative, cisnormative, or heteronormative structures of society. period
