location: white nose coffee in queens
Leo was reciting all the things he wanted to say to her as he walked to the coffee shop. He huffed a little, getting worked up with the words in his head because she left him hanging for months. He had no right to be so upset with her breaking things off with him. He was everything wrong for her. Wrong for anyone.
He walked into the through the doors like he had some score to settle. His dark eyes skimmed the white tables looking for a place to sit. But then he saw her. Did the contrast of her pale face and dark hair always strike him like this? Her skin looked softer, flushed. And her eyes were bright. He liked it all. He missed it. And immediately forgot all his choice words he wanted to say. Instead, opting to compliment her the moment he walked up to the table that she was already situated at. “You look so good.” Hearing the compliment come out his mouth made him snap out of his daze, and move to take his seat across from her. His brows pulled together as looked at her again, she seemed so comfortable in her cushioned booth and he on a metal chair. “Sorry am I late? You said noon, right?” He asked peeking at the thick watch on his left wrist. the metal of his wedding band shining along with it.

Mia wasn’t one to kiss just anyone. At least not when sober but she was in desperate need of help. Though he didn’t reject her, she still knew that she had to make it up to him for going to this extent.
At this point she had hoped the creep had finally understood she wasn’t interested and disappeared but her focus was too much on the kiss they shared. The way his arms wrapped around her more. Her body against his, the way his lips felt again hers. Anyone would believe that they were together from how this went. Though it was just an act, her mind clouded a bit from both the alcohol and kiss. Good looking and a great kisser, she felt thankful for it all.
Mia would be lying that a part of her wasn’t happy it ended but it was just for show. When they part, her breathe was quiet and her eyes peeled open to meet his. The look he had brought her back to reality. “I’m sorry, i’m so sorry. That was stupid of me and yes, after that i definitely owe you more than one drink.” she chuckled. She glanced back and a sigh of relief fell from her lips before looking back at him. “He’s gone.” She said, dropping her hand from his neck to wrap around his free one and gave it a slight squeeze, ”Really, thank you so much.” It wasn’t until she felt something hard and smooth against her fingers. She instantly lifted their hands to see the ring. “Oh my god…” she let’s go quickly, this time her own eyes going wide. “You’re married. Fuck, i’m so sorry. I didnt even know. I swear.” she ran a hand over her face. “Fuck….”

His sobriety had made, what ever conscience he had left, speak up in his head. Was all the attention he had from multiple women not enough already? He’d let himself fall so effortlessly into the arms of another woman, again. Leo’s lips, still tingling from their kiss, pulled into a small smile that he instantly bit back. he definitely like the idea of two drinks instead of one. he watched the woman in front of him fret. It amused him how worry continued to grow her big bright eyes. But she had no idea what he was. “Don’t worry about it. It was an act. I’m an acting coach, and I say that doesn’t count.” He said, gaining control back from his guilty conscience. He would not let it win, even if all it wanted to do was preserve what little humanity he had left. “We got you safe from that creep and that’s all the matters.” He said with nod and straight face as if it didn’t phase him all one bit. though it was mostly cause his mind was easily seduced by his real target here. “Actually what really matters is getting that drink?” his head nodded towards the bar and an outstretched hand followed it’s direction towards it, beckoning her to lead him to the bar. he clearly wanted to move from the indiscretion as soon as possible and smother that ol’ jiminy cricket with alcohol.

Leo’s legs were stretched before him on the bar stool beside him. Shins dangling off of the cushions though he made no effort to take up more real estate. The dive bar wasn’t too busy on this late weekday night. He liked it this way. It was kind of like having the place to himself. the hum of conversation, throwback music, and the sounds of a game of pool were completely comforting to Leo. He had his usual in front of him. A whiskey sour, so chilled that the glass was sweating.
He ignored it for the time being for his phone in his hands, which rested on his lap. He bit his lip, wondering what he should say as he looked at the text messages between him and Ana. He had been the last one to say something which was evident by the multiple blue bubbles. But she hadn’t said a thing to him for three hours. His leg started to shake as he tried to figure out a way to say something but not seem so eager as he had felt. He had to play it cool but he was feeling the opposite as he looked at the time stamp of her last message. But then the grey dots popped up on the left side of the screen and Leo could feel himself shift to being excited. He quickly grabbed his drink and took a sip with his eyes still on the phone.

When Mia has asked someone random, she wasn’t expecting him to be so good looking. For a split second, she had forgotten why she approached him in the first place. Mia was grateful that he didn’t reject her request. If she had to go to someone else, it would’ve been obvious that she was trying to stay away and it could’ve gone worse.”Maybe.” her eyes never left his when his arm wrapped around her. Her own free hand grazing up his arm and resting on the back of his neck. Her fingers, gently brushing the ends of his hair.
At his question, her eyes shifted to the male that continued to watch. It was clear he was getting upset that she was now in the arms of someone else but he wasn’t budging. “Still watching.” Her eyes flickered back to Leo for a moment. “I think this might make it believable. Sorry about this.” she murmured, as her eyes then fell to his lips and leans in to press hers against his.

Picking up chemistry with his unexpected co-star was such an simple feat. The longer she was in his arms, the more comfortable he was in the role. It also scratched his ego in the same way her fingers did at the nape of his neck. This was completely fine. He was doing such a good deed and a free drink to act? It was much more than any audition would give him nowadays.
They were putting on a good show for the audience of one, a scorn drunk man who couldn’t take the hint. Or at least, Leo thought they were doing enough, but apparently intimate gazes and touches weren’t doing it. Her apology had barely registered in his ears when he felt the soft caress of her lips upon his. He didn’t flinch or hesistate, completely commiting to the scene. His eyes closed, and his face relaxed. Though in his head he was reeling over how his flesh was so easily manipulated to kiss another woman who neither had his name or his heart. His lips moved upon hers, being firm yet gentle, but closed. An on-screen kiss. His arms, however, completely wrapped around her warm waist. He held her closer to his body as the kiss lingered on.
Leo pulled away with the softest of sighs, his nose touching hers before completely pulling away. His eyes opened, and it was clear that he was in a bit of a shock. The whites in eyes widening around blown pupils as he looked back at his quote unquote love interest. He cleared his throat though his voice still came out raspy, still in shock, “Okay, now that better have worked.” He cleared his throat again. “Or else, I’m gonna need more than one drink for second base.” He joked, hiding behind humor to get over the unique experience. He was completely sober in this intance and he began to really feel the guilt of his actions. His left hand dropping from her waist as his wedding band felt heavy around his finger.

If Mia could say that the bar was her second home, she would but she didn’t want to sound like an alcoholic. She stood by the counter, sipping her drink when a guy approached her. It was clear he was drunk not only by the way he was slurring his words a bit but the smell as well. Mia tried to turn him down nicely and move away from his touch but it had seemed it wasn’t working.
“Excuse me for a moment.” she said with a fake sweet smile before stepping away, she spotted the closest person to her. She approached them and lightly touched their arm. “Hi, sorry to bother you but i have a huge favor to ask. There’s this creep watching me right now and I really need to make it seem like i’m taken. Now i’m not trying to cause a scene, just obvious enough for him to get the hint. Think you can help me out? i’ll owe you with a free drink.” She said, this time a genuine smile in hopes they’ll agree.

Leo’s eyes widened when he felt a touch on his arm. His whole body stiffened. This could have been some weird silent call for a fight. He did have the tendency to look at everyone funny. He turned and he was surprised to see that it wasn’t some big guy he might have rolled his eyes at. Instead, but a gorgeous woman. He blinked repeatedly as she spoke to him. How did these stunning women in bars always seem to find him? He listened to her task at hand, and figured this could be his one good deed today. It wouldn’t be a hard one either way.
And her reward completely had him on board. A free drink? Game on. Being an acting coach, had its’ perks, he was able to read and micmic facial expressions and body language. A perfect mirror of any person. Without any further inkling that he was going to take this on, he immediately snaked his right arm around her waist. His fingers splayed out against the material of her clothing, before pressing his fingers to her body possessively, that it brought her closer. “Do you think this is doing the trick?” He asked, lowly, his vocal fry deepening as he brought his face down to hers. He did this another layer to the act, showing off intimacy as their faces were mere inches within each other. This wasn’t a hard task at all to look deep into this beautiful stranger’s eyes. For a moment, letting himself believe, methodically, that he was looking at someone he loved and ached for. “Can you peek and see if it’s working?” He asked once again in a husked voice.

location: the masquerade, after the secrets have been revealed
A lithe finger lifted to tuck a braid back into the bun that rested atop her head. Alaska, much like the others at the event, had been feeling elegant, and was trying to let that feeling overpower the irritation she felt with her husband. How they’d arrived to the venue and he was already drunk. How he never seemed to stop glancing at his cellphone—like clockwork, she would hear it buzz in his pocket, and he’d wait exactly a minute, then turn away so to conceal who he was talking to, and a moment later, his fingers would tap against the screen.
She didn’t even want to confront the idea that he could be cheating on her. The thought alone, though held like anticipation in her chest, was too heavy to bear witness to. To accept in any capacity. Even if she’d had suspicions for so long. In too many ways it always felt like she and Leo were untethering, and now she didn’t know the man she begged to look at her in therapy. To see her. Hear her. Just listen. And care.
But Leo didn’t seem to care about much at all anymore, except that dirty bar on ninth street. At least, that’s how Alaska felt anymore, and she stared back at her reflection in the bathroom’s mirror with a sort of hollowness. Like his love, so frayed and incomplete now, sunk straight into her pores and weighed her down from the inside out. The woman inhaled a small breath, washed her hands, and then smoothed down her dress. The clack of stilettos against the tile announced her return to her husband, and for a moment she just observed him, watching him drink. Wondering if this was the existence he wanted more than anything she could give to him. Before she could actually go and try to talk to him again, her own phone pinged now. The concession of messages that flooded through her phone made her eyebrows furrow inward, and she stared quietly down at each one until his name—and another woman’s—popped up. Conjoined. For a moment she just stared at the phone, disbelieving, with her lips fallen apart in shock. Then, as quickly as the tide, tears welled up in her eyes. “You did—what?!” she suddenly came out, viciously, against the anger and anguish suddenly setting her entire body alight. The betrayal heavy in every nerve. “Who is she, Leo?! Who is ‘Gisele’?!”
-
Leo turned his head when he heard the familiar click of Alaska’s heels come to a halt. He watched his wife began to scrutinize her phone. Nano second later, his phone vibrated continuously on the bar’s countertop. He flipped it over and it shook in his hand, as a series of text messages from an unknown number kept going on and going. He glanced through them; seeing the names of colleagues, friends, and acquaintances. Each text reading like soap opera nonsense to him. There was no way any of it could be true…
Until he got to his own known name, and it was coupled with Gisele’s. His brain stitched the image of her name and her body so well. It lingered there as his mind protected him from the reality of what was happening as long as it could. And suddenly, breaking through his thoughts, her voice struck down at him like a bolt of lightening. His own nightmare was right in front of him. He had been caught. He recoiled from her feeling her anger and pain lash out towards him. Instinct took over, in order to live through this situation was to deescalate it as quickly as possible. “Alaska, love, please.” He pleaded loud enough to get through to hers but kept his tone calm. Staying controlled despite the radical pace his mind was racing in order to find a way out of this. He knew what was said was a lie. He did not have sex with Gisele. Though his encounter with her was anything but innocent, he was innocent by the technicality that he didn’t go all the way. He played his fear out as if it were pain, and anguish began to materialize within him. She had believed a rumor so incredibly easy. Were they at that stage now? She’d easily trusted anyone else besides him?
“Baby calm down,” he cooed reaching out to try to control her before she drew in more attention. His hands hovering over the frames of her shoulders, keeping his distance just in case. “Why are you so quick to believe these texts?” He questioned gently though skillfully turning the accusation back on her. How was it so believable for her to trust a spammed message? It hurt to see how sure she was to believe in the worst in him. He continued on to answer her question with his version of the truth. “I’ve only just met this Gisele tonight when I went to donate.” He said, keeping every bit of the truth far away from what he was telling her.
giselesilvas:
She could hear the shoes scuffing around the stall as the guy froze, and it was hilarious seeing, well, not seeing technically, how no matter how old people got, men in her own personal experience, they still froze and fumbled when caught in an indecent position. Like a kid with his hand in a cookie jar. When she finally caught sight of the guy responsible for the ladies’ room now being a giant capsule, Gisele didn’t lose any time to look him over quickly. He looked… Good. Older than her but not by much. Nicely groomed, his hands looked delicat- Married? Her eyes went straight to his wedding band. One would imagine he’d come in here with his wife, get high and then fool around in the bathroom a bit, away from prying eyes. But… Maybe his wife wasn’t here. And now she started to see the real fun in this encounter.
Gisele caught his eye again and smirked as she saw him looking down at her chest and then come back up. Where do you want me? Fuck, he’s in it as well. “Well, I’d have you sitting back on that couch if it were up to me, but then we’d still be in the same position” Red lips turned up with a smile, her tongue running over her teeth with a mischievous look on her face. “I thought you’d never offer” She joked, hand over her chest in an exaggerated dramatic flare, reaching out to grab it and once she did, she replaced the joint in his hand with her free one, shaking it gently “Gisele”
-
Leo’s brows shot up at her response but he easily settled back into his smugness. she was bold and matched his energy like it were breathing. She certainly had her handle on his attention now. Is she flirting with me? he thought, though he was sure his shiny wedding band was a good determent. it usually was. but wedding band or not didn’t keep him from openly leering at her. her skin looked so soft and she had a face that could stop a man in his tracks. and quite frankly, she did cause him to freeze up. he returned her smile with the crooked one of his own and let her take the joint of his offering hand.
“Gisele,” he repeated, testing her name on his tongue, as he wrapped his hand around hers. “Leo—Leo Davis.” he said returning the handshake and introducing himself. He let go of her hand gently and rested it back at his side. Where his hand flexed slightly at the interaction. He hadn’t had a charged physical attraction to anyone that wasn’t his wife lately. Unfortunately, those moments with his wife were becoming less frequent. And he’s never laid on finger on his secret valentine that was confined to his phone. This was different for him for sure, especially while intoxicated with a cross of weed and alcohol. his favorite mix.
He tried to behave his gaze because even though he believed he could be found attractive to anyone, he didn’t want to act on it if he was wrong. No, he didn’t want to act on it because it’d be wrong to do so, because he was lawfully bound. He rubbed his free hands on his pants at the tops of his thighs before smoothing out the velvet. “So, since you can’t have me on the couch, where’s that vent?” He questioned, tearing his eyes from her curves that so intimately spoke to him. He craned his neck up to see the chandelier lighting fixture but none were the exhaust she mentioned. He looked at her again for an answer. But he honestly, didn’t care if he smoked out the restroom. He’d happily continue to get absolutely loaded on the couch. But now it was lady’s choice.
Is cheating ever okay?
“It’s not right, but it’s okay.” He chimed, a knee jerk reaction to something so serious. But the fact he accompanied the Whitney Houston tune with a finger gun wasn’t the worst part of it all. Cheating was something he was doing best. He had truly suppressed his reality by wrecking his liver every night. The reality of chasing another affection from someone other than his loving wife. But he made himself believe the following sentiment.
It wasn’t cheating if he’s never met her. It wasn’t cheating if he’s never seen her. It wasn’t cheating if he’s never touched her. It wasn’t.
