--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clark expected a normal day when he woke up. Maybe go to see Bruce, maybe not. He wasn’t really sure what the day was bringing. Until dick slammed open the door of the justice League meeting room with two pups in tow, looking for Clark and ignoring the protests of who was supposed to be on guard duty that day.

“Clark! I need your help!” dick practically shouted, ducking under the guards grabbing hands once more and pulled the other two to Clark’s seat, ducking behind it defensively from the guard.

Diana waved the guard off before staring at Clark, with a look that clearly said he had some explaining to do. Dick was still panting and halfway to tears and Clark, actually decided to ignore Diana. This was so much more important.

“What’s happened?” Clark asked, crouching down and taking dicks hand in his own. “Where’s your dad?”

“I don’t know!” dick sobbed, rubbing his eyes and staring at Clark. “We were playing in the shallows, and I know dad said don’t go there alone, but he found us, right? But- but then there were boats- and Jason was a bit too far away from us so he was in prime spot for when they could get him- and dad went to save Jason, but they got him two- and now I have Tim and Damian, I didn’t know who else to go to! And now there on a boat, and-“

Clark shushed him, putting his hand on the back of dicks neck comfortingly and trying not to panic internally. It was a bit scrambled what dick said, but what the gist of it was, was that Jason was taken by humans, and trying to save him Bruce was Aswell. Which was not good in any way.

“Clark? What’s going-“ Diana started but was cut off from an actual glare from the other.

“I have to go.” Clark said, standing.

“Clark no,” Aurthur started. Whatever’s happening it can wait; we’ve got a meeting-“

“With all due respect Aurthur, I couldn’t care less. Now, you listen to me. This is Dick, Tim, and Damian. These are my children. You will all take care of them no questions asked. You don’t get to know what I’m doing, but that’s more important. Mt family will always be more important. So shut up, take care of my kids, and ill be back when I’m back. Ok?”

No one spoke. Clark had never been so firm. Or terrifying. No one knew what exactly to say. When Clark saw he was acknowledged he kneeled back down to dick.

“These people you can trust, ok? I’m going to get your dad and brother. Stay together, you’re such a brave kid, ok? You always come to me. Ill be back in no-“

“I think I like being your kid Clark.”

At dicks words Clark wanted to melt into a pile of mush and happiness. But he didn’t have time, so he pressed a soft kiss onto dicks forehead. “I like being your dad.” He muttered before nodding and speeding out of the league building, leaving the others a batch of overwhelmed, and very stubborn kids.

Clark swam through the water like a bat out of hell, desperately weaving through as he searched for any sign of human activity, ears straining to hear anything at all. He went up to the shallows before examining the area thoroughly before finding some shrapnel, seems Bruce put up a strong fight. Good man. And he pulled it closer to himself. He couldn’t read the language, but it was some Asian language, which meant they were going back into the ocean to get back to their home.

Which meant he still had time to find Bruce.

He ignored the cold that seemed into his bones as he left the reef, and the twilight zone. Swimming further into the ocean then he’s ever swum as he went to go fins his Bruce and Jason. Part of his family. He couldn’t just leave them behind. This time? There was no room for error allowed.

Clark was starting to panic when he got a whiff of something in the water. Blood, Bruces blood. He could track it to the boat! But… Bruce was bleeding. Oh, hell no, people gonna die.

Tracking the blood with a burning rage in the back of his skull wasn’t the easiest thing he’s done. But definitely the thing he hasn’t regretted even once, as he continued till, he saw a ship in which the scent was just dripping off it.

Now, Clark could’ve been subtle about this. But he honestly didn’t care and was far too angry to consider anything but getting the two back. So, it came as a big surprise when he climbed up the side of the boat and just threw a guy off. The humans seemed almost intimidated of Clark’s size, and that made him so much angrier.

They didn’t mind kidnapping a pup and its parent huh? But when they have to take on a bigger Mer they minded? What a load of absolute bullshit.

Clark narrowed his eyes at one of the poachers and fixed him with a gaze that could melt steel. Literally. The man seemed to get what the other was after, because he pointed to a crate before jumping onto a raft like the other two men left. Cowards. Not that Clark was thinking of that now, as he instead went closer to the crate and open it up to fins a whimpering up clutching to an unconscious Bruce with blood dripping down his forehead. And Clarks heart nearly stopped.

Now, he knew Bruce was alive, he could hear his pulse. But that didn’t stop the fact that he was hurt. He clutched Jason to his side and pulled Bruce out of the crate, then falling backwards into the ocean to get the two some much needed water.

Since Jason seemed contented with clutching onto him like a backpack Clark focused on Bruce, checking the other man and making sure he was alright. About halfway through Bruce stirred, head pounding and pain shooting through his body as he stared up at Clark.

The two met eyes and Bruce tilted his head, “cl... ark?” he tried. Clark had never heard Bruce even try speaking before, so hearing his name, even fragmented and a bit strange was surreal, and damn he had a beautiful voice. Jason seemed to have not heard his father’s voice either because he chirped, swimming around and slotting himself into Bruce arms.

Bruce loosely wrapped sore arms around Jason, pulling himself up despite the discomfort to lean on Clark’s chest.

Clark pulled the other closer, starting on his way home as he mumbled reassurance.

“It’s ok, your other kids are safe and with my friends. They won’t let anything happen to them. Just stay with me, I’ll take you home.”

Ghost!Bruce SuperBat: Chapter one, heart.

Bruce rushed to join the fight, dodging a flying piece of rubble and jumping onto a car. He had to be more careful then normal. Not because he could die- nope! Way past that train. But because getting hurt and not feeling it would mean he was basically instantly outed to everyone. Because Barry would panic and blurt it out.

Clark saw Bruce and noted him being more careful, but the other saw it as a good thing. That Bruce was finally taking his insistence on caring for himself to heart and being careful during the fights.

By the time, the battle was over everyone was tired, some taking a seat and others just straight away leaving. Clark went over to Barry and Bruce, Barry speeding away when he saw Clark, a nervous expression on his face. Clark saw Bruce looked fine actually, not tired at all. He was confused about that.

“Bruce?”

Bruce looked over to Clark, blinking through the new lenses in his suit and nodding. “Yes, Clark?”

“Why do you look less tired than everyone else?” Clark asked. “You look fine.”

Bruce cursed internally. He had not thought of that, he had slipped up. And he swore at himself for it. “Uh- you know.” Bruce said, fiddling with a clasp on his belt. “I’ve been taking it easy, like you said. Guess I’m really just taking things you say to heart today, huh?”

Clark, being himself, was just ecstatic his boyfriend was looking after himself. He pulled Bruce closer in for a hug, chin bumping against Bruce’s before  he yanked back, staring at the other.

Hr was so cold.

“Bruce? Your freezing, are you ok?”

“What?” Bruce asked, going ridged. He hadn’t planned about this. Hadn’t thought this through enough yet. “Oh, it’s nothing, I’ve just been out for a while Clark,”

“I’ll take you home and warm you up, God knows you need it. And when you take off your suit, I can hear your heartbeat, and it will all be good again, ok?”

Bruce winced, cursing himself internally for what he was about to do. He loved Clark all too much, and knew Clark loved him too. But his perfectly sculpted lie was crumbling down around him, and he needed an excuse to not let Clark near him. Not until he figured out how to tell him at least.

“Actually Clark! Uh- Barry and I needed to do something really fast, he was going to take me home after we did something at his, isn’t that right Barry?” Bruce asked, turning and gesturing silently at Clark to Barry with his eyes.

Barry seemed to get the message, as he hurried over and nodded. “Yep, sorry Clark. Just got to steal your man for a bit. Sorry! But the case calls.”

“Mhm, I’ll call you when I get home, love you, bye.” Bruce said quickly as Barry grabbed him and sped off.

Bruce didn’t get to see Clark’s expression.

As the two ran off Clark stood there, a ‘bye’ on his lips and a thump in his stomach at being shot down. He sighed, rubbing his head and watching the other two wistfully. He didn’t want to pry into his boyfriend’s life, but he hadn’t seen Bruce in a long while. And he has just spoken to him again! And now he wasn’t. it sucked. But Clark sucked it up and took off back to his apartment. He’d get to call Bruce later. He guessed.

As soon as Barry knew him and Bruce were out of earshot, he set the other down with a frown, looking like Bruce plopped himself down onto the floor. Barry sat himself next to the other, giving his back a small pat as he thought.

“You know you’re going to have to tell him soon, right?” he asked Bruce, who seemed to be extremely interested in blades of grass right now. “I guess.” Bruce mutter, lifting his head to meet the others gaze. “But how am I supposed to tell him that? He’d be heartbroken. I can’t live with that Barry, I love him too much. He’s the nicest person you ever meet, what would you do?”

“Tell him the truth?” Barry tried, a wince forming at how that sounded coming out. Much worse than he intended, Bruce shot him a scathing glare.

“You, would you? You have no idea what this is like?”

“I mean,” Barry started, not wanting to provoke Bruce bur not wanting to be wrong. “I have died before-“

“But you were revived! I’m constantly half dead and mostly dying and you can revive me because then the magic would tear me apart and my atoms would lose their bonds with one another. Id cease to exist! God fucking dammit Barry.”

Barry paused, unused to the hostile outbreak of the normally cool and collected bat. He, very sacredly, pat Bruce shoulder. Like you would a stray cat.

Bruce just slumped back and lay against the wet grass, staring at the sun that used to burn his eyes. Barry watched him and made a face. “You’re lying in wet grass and staring at the sun.”

“And?”

“Well wet grass is unpleasant. And doesn’t staring at the sun hurt?”

“Barley anything hurts now.”

“well- ok, but could you stop?”

“Oh, I am so sorry, am I, the dead person, making you uncomfortable? Please.”

Bruce noticed Barry’s uncomfortable look and sighed, pushing himself up. “sorry, that was uncalled for. I’m just a little pissy- who wouldn’t be? I died less than a month ago. And now I have a family I have to tell, a boyfriend who’s going to have to have his heart broken, and I’m still figuring this out. Dick was using Constentine’s help with a case, he saw me, and we both just stared at each other for about two minutes. He didn’t say anything, but that’s one more person who knows, who doesn’t need to know. And none who do need to know are any closer to knowing. This really sucks!”

“Yeah.” Barry sighed, pulling Bruce into a side hug as he looked over Gotham. He almost snickered when a thought came to mind, looking down at Bruce.

“Ok, before I take you home can I ask you something?”

“Uh- I mean sure I guess.” Bruce shrugged. “if Clark’s dating you, and your dead, does that mean he a necro-“

“Die. Just die Barry.”

Ghost!Bruce SuperBat: Chapter one, heart.

@cheffebear

@kittensniker-meh

@hngryazn

@thequeenluffy

Now, Clark didn’t obsessively keep an ear on Bruce’s heartbeat, even if it was in his nature. But when he knew Bruce was in the area, he’d check it every time, without fail. What could he say? He loved that man. so, when he called for the league in a battle, and he didn’t hear Bruce’s heartbeat when he turned up, he almost had a full-on heart attack.

When he turned to look at Bruce and didn’t see him instantly, he panicked. Doing a 360, he saw no Bruce, before he homed in on a figure. It definitely had the same stature as Bruce, just… in a new suit? Huh. Bruce barely ever changed his suit- especially not to something like… like it looked there, less heavy, almost like he didn’t have to worry about being injured now. It didn’t have Kevlar or body armour; it was superhero clothes with awesome branding. Sure, he was Batman, and it was probably something, but it didn’t feel like that. It felt stupidly vulnerable.

He landed next to Bruce, who was conversing with barry, and pulled him aside, ignoring the explosion in the background.

“Are you ok?” Clark asked him, looking at his boyfriend with obvious concern.

“Of Couse I am, why?” Bruce responded, no hesitation at all. That was good, right?

Clark put his hand over Bruce’s chest, eyebrows furrowing and looking at the other with genuine concern.

“I can’t hear your heartbeat. Why can’t I hear your heartbeat Br- batman?” Clark caught himself with the name before it spilled. He expected Bruce to lecture him on that but that wasn’t nearly Bruce’s biggest concern at the moment.

Bruce stiffened, bitting his cheek and cursing internally. Flash had a similar reaction, but it went unnoticed as Bruce went to think of something on the spot. “new suit.” He settled on finally. “Made of a new material. You can’t hear through it.”

Clark would’ve thought it impossible, but he knew to trust Bruce on these things. Instead, he nodded and flew back up, grabbing a piece of shrapnel thrown and throwing it right back.

Barry looked at Bruce, with a wince seeing the expression on the others face. Barry knew. He had been there at the accident when it took place, having had called Bruce to help him with a villain. He could’ve called anyone else, but Bruce was like the league guy. Whenever there was a problem, he was called. Barry really wished he called Clark now.

It had been a terrible accident. They were infiltrating a new lab Barrys villain set up, before realising this was much bigger. This particular lab was being used to combine magic with science, not by letting it coexist. But by merging those partials with literal magic they drained from an artefact. Dark magic actually. And it was dangerously unstable.

Bruce had told barry to hold a button down, and barry did! Bur god he wished he could’ve held it for longer. Bruce had gone out and grappled to the top of the ceiling to get to the main access Pannel above the super collider, but barry had seen the villain. And barry had had to doge for his own safety, but that button was keeping it from dissolving everything. And when barry dodged he let go of the button. A particular stray beam hit the grapple, and Bruce fell into the midst of the beam, dead on impact.

But that magic had needed a host.

So, the science aspect created a new body.

Well, not a new body. Just this one. Bruces body atoms regenerated every few seconds, just making themselves new. It didn’t need to pump its own blood anymore, or breath. Because it just created the atoms he had rushing when he died back, even if he breathed on instinct. If Bruce’s body wasn’t peak physical condition before, it was now. But it wasn’t a body Bruce wanted.

When barry had checked Bruce’s pulse and found none, he assumed he killed the batman, panicking and ripping off the mask, desperate to see if he could save his friend. When Bruce’s eyes immediately went wide open, he nearly had a heart attack, eyes still over the pulse but getting none. He was wondering if it was muscle spasms before Bruce rubbed his head sitting up and asking what happened.

It did not take long for the two to figure out what happened, and it was an awful realisation. Everything felt so much duller to Bruce, not in the mental sense of course. But when he touched things, it was like they were muffled, everything tasted like nothing and he was never really warm unless someone else or something was providing him warmth, his body not really doing that itself anymore.

It of course made Bruce a better batman, but he didn’t want It at the cost of his humanity. He didn’t wear body armour because he couldn’t get hurt. He changed his suit because without wearing the perforce for the core, a small gem barry had helped him poke a hole through and put on a chain, the power he was given from the fusion would go haywire, and he didn’t want that power. He was batman. Not someone who relied on their powers.

A piece of shrapnel came towards the two and barry stepped out of the way and it cut Bruce’s arm off. Who sighed and counted to ten as a black Smokey, shadowy substance engulfed the place where his arm used to be, and pulled away to show a new, exact copy of his limb. Bruce sighed, barry made a face.

“Still disgusting that happens man.” Barry said, holding his arms up.

Bruce crossed his over his chest and glared at the other.

“Thanks, I’m so sorry my death has disgusted you. Maybe you should have a go at it sometime? Because now I have to slowly break the news, I’m dead to the best person I know and somehow keep it from my family, so they don’t either freak out, or morn. I’m still here! Just different. Ok?”

“Your much more emotional than you used to be.”

“of course I am! I’m dead! Your dead lucky Clark doesn’t use his hearing during fights.”

“Heh. Dead lucky.”

“Grow up.”

As barry ran off to go help the fight, Bruce paused before looking at the team. He was more like them now then before, weirdly powerful. But he didn’t want it.

He never asked to die, and he really didn’t want to tell the person he loved he was like this. But hey if there was one part Bruce liked? He travelled between the dead and the living. He got to see people he long lost, no one that far back yet, but they were further away then those who recently passed. And this way? Being basically immortal? Him and Clark could live forever.

(Authors note, I like to think that since the Kryptonian planet is so far away from the sun in this universe, that people just live longer. One Kryptonian year is fifteen human ones, because they revolve less around the sun, and their life span equates to 150 years so time that by fifteen. I know it’s ridiculous, but I want my babies to live forever. And it's my story, screw people who don’t accept the immersion. And since Bruce can travel in between Plaines he’ll still be seeing Clark when he passed, and his great-great-great grandchildren.)

(Also, this is just part one. I'll be tagging the same people in part two, if you want to be tagged for the next part tell me, and i hope you enjoyed!)

(One more time, will add link for second when its written.)

Mer au JL:

(Btw they haven’t met Bruce yet, Superbat centric.)

Open to any suggestions about others but have only planned Bruce and Clark’s species.

Bruce: Flashlight fish mer. Google those fish, their cuties.

Clark: Humphead Maori Wrasse Mer. Ok. I know the fish is ugly, but it’s large, a reef fish, its colours are beautiful, and the tail type is what I’m looking for. If you goggle it, I pray for your very soul. Don’t focus on its head to hard.

———————————————————————

“Clark, you’re going to miss the meeting.” Arthur said, sighing in exasperation and looking to the other Mer, who didn’t seem to care at the moment.

Clark sighed, looking over his shoulder as he kept his body facing the reef.

“Ok, I get it. But I’ll be there! I just need to check this out first, we’ve had no idea what this is, but someone’s spotted the black thing, can I At least scout it out? Kay, thanks, bye Arthur!”

Clark finished, not letting Arthur start and darted down into the brush anyway.

“Clark! Come back- Jesus.” Arthur mutters, going on about something like ‘arrogant prick’ before going off to Atlantis to take care of himself before the meeting.

Clark swam through the reef, looking to the pad on which the location of the last sighting of the entity was found.

A few weeks ago, they had started getting reports of a big entity swimming around the reef, long, but people have only reported glimpses of black scales with an iridescent purple and blue sheen.

But every time they came to check it out the thing had just disappeared. But Clark got this notification less than an hour ago, he had time to explore.

And he’d been looking for this for a very long time.

He got to the sight of the reef and begin to scout out the area. It was in the darker parts of the reef, close to where the trenches were. Arthur had said that going down there was basically suicide, and that’s why most mer’s steered away from it.

He smelt the faint scent of blood in the water and followed it, till he saw that flash of black with the small purple shimmer the water reflected around it. Clark stiffens and takes a breath, before slowly and silently inching out from behind the coral to see what it was. He didn’t expect it to be another Mer.

Most mer’s didn’t have dark scales. Well, reef mer’s. It normally went darker scales the deeper they went. But Clark had never seen black scales before. A soft breath left his mouth in the sound of a ‘hah.’

The other Mer clearly heard him and whipped around, blue eyes focusing on blue.  The other had short black hair and pale skin, blood on his chin from his meal. A whole ass shark lay behind him, Clark chuckled nervously.

“Uh- you’ve got a little, something, on your chin right there?”

The other instantly spooked and took off, fleeing at speeds Clark hadn’t seen in a long time, with deliberation that was a little startling. Clark gave chase, weaving through the colourful coral blurring as the two passed.

“Stop running!” Clark shouted, trying to reach him.

The other Mer dipped under a pice of coral and speeding to the other side of it. It was a small opening Clark definitely couldn’t for through, he swam above it and looked from above, trying to find the exit to the crevice in which the other went through.

He saw the other start to emerge and waited till he was put to swim down and pin him to the reef bed.

The other was very startled when he felt the grab, and threw his body weight back against Clark, turning and managing to throw him half off. Clark grabbed him in a sort of headlock and the other wrapped his tail around Clark, the appendage trapping Clark as the other Mer threw him, then grabbing his neck with a gasp.

Clark rolled over and back to his bearings, looking at the Mer in front of him. He tried to put his hand up in a sort of placation, attempting to calm the other.

“Hey, hey. I’m not going to hurt you; I’m just here to- “

What was he here to do really. It was mostly his job to now take this one somewhere and find out his agenda. If he had one. It really didn’t matter what he said, actually. It was quite clear the other had no idea what he was saying.

“Wait- what’s your name?” Clark asked the other, swimming closer. The other met tried to back up, but his back hit the coral, and he just stared fowrd at Clark. The other mer attempted to scare Clark off him by flashing his scales, in a sort of warning. Clark was entranced on the other hand. He had never seen a Mer do anything like that before, and it fascinated him.

“Woah, how did you do that?” He asked, swimming closer and reaching for the others fin mindlessly. In which he then got slapped across the face by his tail fin. Clark paused, then looked at him sheepishly.

“Probably deserved that, huh?”

Clark hummed, then gently grabbed a lionfish out of the reef. He had interrupted the others meal, and they were an invasive species here anyways. He wasn’t sure if the other would go for it, but when he stretched his hand out in offering it was very hesitantly grabbed the fish as teeth sharper then Clark had seen in a long time tore through the fishes’ scales.

And he couldn’t help but be morbidly fascinated.

“You have no clue what I’m saying, huh?” he mumbled, going to sit next to the eating Mer but got a glare. He inched away till the glares topped. He ended up sitting a good three feet away.

“I’m going to call you Bruce. You can’t understand me either way, I’m Clark.”

Bruce looked up at him, black hair floating slightly around his head like a dark ink crown, contrasting so very much with his pale skin. Eyes bluer than the water itself met Clarks as he tilted his head, pearly black scales glinting as he flicked his tail in mild intrigue.

Clark seemed quite pleased when Bruce’s gaze fell on him in the least hostile way it had in a while. He nodded, pointing to himself.

“Mhm. I’m Clark.” He said, grinning, he pointed to Bruce, who twitched as his face scrunched up slightly. “and I’m calling you Bruce till you figure out how to communicate your real name to me.”

Bruce decided to ignore him for the moment, teeth ripping back into the fish’s flesh as he ate, ever really keeping one eye off Clark. When the meat had been stripped off its bones he paused, then looked to Clark as if offended. He stared at the other, as if expecting something.

Clark, upon realising he was probably still hungry, smiled and went to grab another fish, seemingly unbothered by the nonverbal order he was given. He yanked it out of a hole in the coral and swam up to Bruce, offering out his hand for him to grab it again. Bruce snatched it without hesitation this time, teeth sinking back into the food. After a while of snacking, he looked at Clark, and when Bruce saw it was getting dark, he slinked away before Clark could catch him, into the darkness. The only thing he saw was the outline of the body that belonged to Bruce stop, and flash. As if a belligerent thanks. And Clark didn’t give chase. He had a feeling he’d be seeing the strange Mer again very soon.

Bruce is a very independent person, always sure of himself, mature and responsible. Behaves like a grown man for every aspect of his life...until he's with Alfred.

Headcanon is that Bruce becomes a whole different person with Alfred. He's the only parental figure he had for a very long time, Alfred watched his grief, his rebellions, his growth and his emotions. Bruce couldn't hide anything from the man so he simply gave up and let himself...go around Alfred and behaves like a child (not the best term but ya know what I mean).

The scenario have is of when Bruce and clark short off their feelings and they go to the batcave where Alfred is waiting on his usual spot by the batcomputer. They are helding hands but clark is slightly behind Bruce, who has his cowl off, and is fidging on his feet, but clark is too (it's just facing ma and pa Kent bc clark also acts like a child with them)

Alfred: master Bruce, master clark I see you both are okay and well.

Bruce and clark nods at the same time

Bruce: u-uh can clark stay over? In my bedroom with me?

Alfred knowing that it's a genuine question, but loves to these side of bruce: yes he can, but I will be checking to see if you are doing something.

Both shake their heads furiously, before bruce assures that they will be only sleeping. And they do only sleep while holding each other.

And Alfred loves when Bruce does this, because it reminds him that Bruce never grew up from that small child fully, and he's always gonna need Alfred by his side. But the butler is also safe that Bruce won't never be truly alone when he's gone, with his kids and now clark, Alfred is very sure that Bruce will be fine.
