Since I know that it helps when you're not ok... what are your favourite things about Artemis?

Thank you, you’re so sweet 💜 It’s a tough question to answer though x’) I guess, it’s the duality of him. How he’s a perpetual funambulist - never quite a child, never quite an adult ; never quite a criminal, never quite an honest man ; never quite a human, never quite a magical being. Also, how his biggest strengths are also his most fatal flaws ; he is superhumanly intelligent, but that doesn’t mean he’s wise - and most if not all of the times he fell it was because of hubris. He has a resolve of steel, but his unbreakable determination often causes him to go too far, and get people (mostly ones he cares about) hurt.

And the little things, too ; the tiny cracks in his sarcastic facade, that show the heart of gold behind the cold persona. Love this dipshit with all my heart ✨

the character i least understand I already answered this one in a separate ask, but let’s interpret the question differently - and honestly, I don’t think I have one. I feel like all the characters in the book are pretty straightforward in what their goals, needs, motives and morals are, sure some of them are jerks but it’s understandable why they are jerks - and those that are more difficult to figure out, it’s mostly just because they are not that developed and mostly side characters.

interactions i enjoyed the most Artemis and Angeline in book one were so heartbreaking, in a good way. It’s really one of the things that drew me in the most when I first read the book. I loved the complexity of their dynamics, and was so sad to see it get mostly abandoned for the rest of the series :’( But outside of them, just everything Artemis and Butler. I love this duo with my whole heart.

the character who scares me the most If I were to run into him in the street, I would be terrified of Butler for sure. But as a writer, I think it would be Foaly ! I find him so difficult to write faithfully, it’s hard to do him justice.

the character who is mostly like me Angeline. Without a shadow of a doubt.

hottest looks character Pass. I just don’t think about them that way :)

one thing i dislike about my fave character The way Angeline is treated past book one will always infuriate me. Her character had SO much potential, all wasted in the name of a Randomosity shirt.

one thing i like about my hated character Tim’s backstory is so underdeveloped that I had a lot of fun trying to come up with something that would make him at least a little bit likable for future fanfics x’) And well, I’ve grown to be fond of the sociopathic pathetic wet cat I’ve forged through headcanons, spite and willpower alone ^^"

a quote or scene that haunts me “Non… parce qu’alors, je les verrais.” When Artemis, visiting Angeline in the attic for the first time in book one, offers to open the curtains after she told him about voices crawling all around her, she starts crying in pain, fear and desperation. That entire scene broke me, and this specific line stuck (sorry I didn’t feel like looking for the original English version). I guess it hit a bit too close to home somehow. But since then Angeline has been my absolute beloved, only topped by Artemis himself of course.

a death that left me indifferent Turnball Root. There were just too many things that infuriated me in TAC for me to care about his death. The love story also felt way too cliché and I couldn’t manage to become invested in it.

a character i wish died but didn’t I know she died eventually, but for me Opal should have been dead and gone after book 4. She had served her purpose and I feel like bringing her back twice was too predictable, unnecessary, and turned her character into a gimmick.

my ship that never sailed For some reason I really wanted Foaly to end up with Lilli Frond for a long time ?! I figured it would be interesting for Foaly to be the one to see past Lilli’s facade and reveal more depth to her character - and that would have also made for interesting interactions with Holly ! But oh well, why develop existing characters when you can create random ones mid-series ? ):

That’s such a tricky question to answer, depending on how you interpret “understand”. Thank you for asking ! After pondering for a bit, I think I’ll say Artemis’ grandfather. What I don’t understand about this person, is why we know so absolutely little about him, when he should be SO important to explain why Tim became Tim, and thus how Artemis became Artemis. The little we do know about this grandfather just feels off and weird to me. Basically, he’s only truly mentioned three times : - In book 1, Angeline mistakes Artemis for his grandfather, and talks to him extremely fondly and casually, even calling him (in the French version at least) by the most informal term possible to adress a grandparent/FIL ; indicating a very warm and soft relationship ? Though it might just be her psychotic episode distorting the actual truth of how they interacted ? - Then Tim, in TEC, claims that his father only treated him as a businessman and barely knew him as a person ; if his relationship with his father was so cold and distant, why would Angeline show this man such kindness, when we know how fierly protective she is of the ones she loves ? - And then, in TAC Artemis recalls a fond memory of spending time in his grandfather’s workshop. Sure it might be Angeline’s father in this memory but I don’t think it is. I feel like Tim’s father deserved to be a much more prominent, menacing shadow, even being long dead before the start of the first book. I would have loved to know more about him (like, I don’t know, a name would have been nice ^^”), but that’s also just me wanting to know more about the Fowl family in general. The good thing here at least, is that there is such little lore that it gives a lot of leeway for headcanons 😈 And oh, how many do I have about this man 😈

The limited palette worked quite well ; the glass effect not so much lmao x') At least I tried I guess.

If Artemis has even only one (1) song that sounds even remotely like that in the musical, to express how he feels about his parents, I'll be a happy woman There is just such a beautifully dark and melancholic undertone throughout this entire book series to me, and I'm so terrified that a musical will not be able to do it justice...

Fragments of Artemis Fowl is the fic I'm currently working on ! It's technically taking place right after Artemis Experiments Weird, but should be readable as a solo fic. The idea : Foaly is on a sick leave from the LEP and he's bored. So he decides to grab the (illegal) copies of Artemis, Butler, Juliet and the Fowl parents' memories he has saved from the mindwipe, and explore them to figure out how Artemis Fowl became, well, Artemis Fowl 😊 So it's a non-linear collection of one-shots exploring memories of Artemis' childhood, his parents' backstory, with Foaly's (and later Holly's) take and interpretation on the whole thing ! So far I have planned 90 chapters, crafted a timeline going back to the XIXth century, two excel docs of characters (the Fowl Manor isn't gonna staff itself ! and all the other prominent crime lords around the world !!), it's so much work but 👏 I'M 👏 HAVING 👏 A 👏 BLAST 👏 I had also made an entire doc with all the miscellaneous Fowl and fairies lore and anecdotes I could find while re-reading the books, but this one got lost in my last computer crash 🫠 So I have to remake it from scratch at some point. Anywoo, this one is still a long way to go before it can be published, but I literally started to think about this fic when I was a wee twelve-years-old baby so I'm not gonna give it up and I'm so proud to see how far it's come already 💜

FOWLDOM HOW WE FEELING

☕️ Breakfast in 1994 ☕️ Just a chill morning at the staff kitchen in Fowl Manor 💜 It's been a while since I've drawn our dear Butler. The truth is @iesnoth's design is so perfect to me that I really struggle to come up with something that feels true to him and also like my own thing. It's still a bit of a work in progress but I do like this version :) Also even though the lighting is completely off, I'm still proud of the stained-glass window ✨ I've never really done intricate background details before, but I've developed the firm headcanon that Fowl Manor is overflowing with Art Nouveau/Art Déco architectural nods and so I just had to get out of my comfort zone.

Anyhoo. Look, they are happy 🥰

Juliet would obviously be very much into Chappell Roan, and I suspect Butler would too. But I feel the one song that Artemis would really tolerate being blasted full force during car rides is 'Good Luck Babe'. Because there's NO way in hell he resists the chance to sing-yell 🎶✨"I TOLD YOU SOOO"✨🎶 at the top of his lungs like the petty princess he is 💅🏻

Silly very self-indulgent Artemis Fowl x figure skating drawing 👀 With, as @laeliana suggested, Artemis and Minerva as an ice dance couple ! (I know it makes no sense, it's alright, it's for the ✨vibes✨) The pose is inspired by my fellow Frenchies Evgenia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud's free dance - first because, well, it slays and it's iconic, and second because I feel like it fits Artemis and Minerva's vibe pretty nicely 😈

The perspective and colours are SO wonky on this one, I'm a bit frustrated with Minerva because I feel like it's hard to recognise her without her signature glasses... but well, it was just something I scribbled during Europeans' Zamboni times in only a few hours, and I had a lot of fun, so I guess it's okay 🙂

✨≽༏≼ Fairy Ring ≽༏≼✨ It's been too long since I had the time to draw my favorite lil gremlin. A somewhat-confirmed-but-still-a-bit-of-an-headcanon I've always had is that Artemis has pretty much always been obsessed with fairies - obsessed, as in reading all the books and resources he can find on the topic, filling notebooks upon notebooks with sketches, paintings and scientific observations, composing entire symphonies on banshees and various magical creatures... ... and also, willing to spend entire days observing the fairy ring he found inside Fowl estate's woods hoping to find an actual fairy. Here, he's found a dragonfly (as a nod to Pan's Labyrinth), that seems to be strangely glowing, and he is very happy in his mischievous way 😈 Do not worry, the dragonfly was left unscathed - Artemis tried to capture it, failed (ending up covered in mud after splatting face-first in the grass like the athlete he is), went to the manor to ask Butler to help, was thoroughly chewed out by both Butler and his parents for disappearing for hours, and was ultimately sent to take a warm bath after spending an entire afternoon soaking wet in the rain. He did catch a cold, and was very upset that he might have had the chance to capture a tiny fairy but let it slip. Just be patient, Arty 💜 (Now, is the dragonfly actually magical or not ? I had fun playing with a surreal lighting to left it open to interpretation 🧚‍♂️)

😡 Reluctant allies 😡

I just love early series Artemis and Holly foes-to-frenemies dynamic. Even though they hate each other's guts, you can feel that Artemis respects and looks up to Holly ; and that Holly empathises and genuinely wants to understand Artemis. I'm relatively pleased with Artemis' suit ; I absolutely despise drawing suits with every fiber of my being. ... Which is a little bit of an issue when you want to draw Artemis Fowl, as you can imagine.

Don't look at the background though. It's trash 🫠

🎃 movie night in 1994 🎃 you can decide what the babies are watching, but in my head it's The Crow 🐦 I just needed to draw something that brought back some feeling of comfort and happiness from my childhood, to escape the absolute shitshow that is French politics right now 🫠 and I loved nothing more as a child than to bury myself underneath all the pillows and blankets of the house with my plushies to watch 'The Adventures of Baron Munchausen' for the umpteenth time. So, here is a rendition I guess.

I hope it can bring comfort to you as well to see smol Artemis and Juliet enjoying a movie (Artemis being super focused as always, and Juliet being absolutely unable to sit still and contorting in weird yoga positions also as always) 💜 (did my best with the TV lighting but on my computer screen I feel like it looks like shit. well, I'll have to live with it, I've already spend an entire weekend on this thing)

Woke up this morning randomly thinking about this classical music and ballet tv competition that we watch with my family during Winter holidays ; last Christmas, there was a little flutist girl among the finalists who, when asked what she'd want to do with the cash prize, immediately said 'I WANT TO BUY A GOLD FLUTE BECAUSE I ALWAYS DREAMED OF HAVING ONE !! :D' And at that moment I simultaneously thought "hell yeah girl boss", and "... Artemis ? Is that you ?" Hence, this drawing :3

FowlFest : TLC AU

I've been wanting to take part in Fowlfest but wouldn't dare to ; I feel like I don't really belong in the Fowldom but that's a me problem. So, I've been thinking about the AU prompt ! My most beloved AU is more of a canon-divergence, but I just love to imagine how things would have turned out had Artemis gotten his memories back by himself after TEC. I've written a whole ass fanfic about this though, and it's a bit off-topic so I won't expand on that ; still it's the first thing that came to mind. BUT ! To get to the point, one thing I've been wondering about a lot lately : what if, when Artemis and Holly (and the demons) came back from Hybras, they didn't arrive three years after they went missing, but three years before ? Just like. Imagine that. To avoid causing time paradoxes, Artemis and Holly would have to hide in seclusion for a few years to not runinto their younger selves ; the good thing is, if they manage to wait it out, they would be able to reappear in Taipei right after vanishing, so Butler and the Fowl family would at least be spared the anguish. But they'd still have to hang around for about three years in a timeline where they already exist, and try not to wreck the space-time continuum. Holly would definitely want to try to save Julius from Opal, which Artemis probably wouldn't allow her to do because it would absolutely break the timeline. What if they can't resist trying to fix the mistakes of the past ? What if they decide to go back to their lives even with their other selves still being there - how would that go ? Also, I said three years, but it could be more. They could return right before the Fowl Siege, or even earlier than that ; Artemis would have a very hard time deciding whether to try and not have his father be captured by the Mafiya. Alternatively they could even appear as far as like the seventies, but that's a completely different beast of an AU altogether. Lame crackfic telenovela plot-twist in that case : Artemis II ends up being Artemis I and the universe explodes. what the hell did my brain just suggest There's also the fact they are coming back from Hybras with demons ; can the demons just join the People ? Then the whole initial plot of TLC would be very different. I guess I like this idea because it could go many ways depending on the genre you want to explore. It can be a dystopian, lovecraftian horror thriller if the timeline starts unraveling ; or a funny, crazy time-travelling adventure with many shenanigans ; but also an intimist, philosophical tale about Artemis and Holly being stuck in and out of their world, forced to live like ghosts while another version of them lives their life and makes the same mistakes they did, having no friend to reach out to but each other. It can be sad, but also wholesome - them ending up admitting that what they went through all these years made them who they are, and even when given the chance they wouldn't change anything. I don't ship them but I like that it would be an opportunity to deepen and strengthen their bond whether platonically or romantically depending on your preference.

Anyhoo, that's where I'm at. Sorry it's a bit lame and probably been thought about before :(

Did they truly understand each other ? Not really. Were they friends ? Not exactly. Did they spend an incredible amount of energy to piss each other off and pretend they hated to exist in the same place ? Definitely. But were they still there when comfort was needed ? Absolutely.

Hyperfixations collide once again o/ I don’t resonate with Aurora’s latest song as much as with Conflict of the Mind, but it still does make me think of Artemis - or at least of how I see Artemis. I’ve always felt like he used to be an hypersensitive, deeply empathic child, who was conditioned to think of emotions as weaknesses that absolutely must be concealed ; and who had to build himself an armor and become an adult so very soon. But even in the first book, every interaction he has with Angeline shows just how much he stills feels, even though he bottles everything up. And even though he’s a dork and can be very obtuse to how much he hurts people, I’m persuaded that you can’t have the borderline supernatural power he has to predict each and every one of his opponents moves during his schemes, without some very strong ability to truly put himself in their shoes and understand their psyches. Sure, you çan totally argue that he got there through study and logic, but I do like to think that he does have high emotional intelligence - he just doesn’t allow himself to use it a lot.

✨ !!! HYPERFIXATIONS COLLIDE !!!✨

I’m weeks late but the minute I heard my absolute beloved Aurora’s latest song ‘Conflict of the Mind’ I knew what I had to do. It’s a song that deeply moves me, I relate to it a lot but it also feels so much like something Artemis or Angeline would feel but never say out loud.

It was my first time drawing with an actual reference image (from the music video which you must absolutely check out if you haven’t seen it already), it was pretty fun and I do like the end result, even though shadows still prove to be my ultimate nemesis.
