I haven't posted in a while, so here some unfinished stuff!
So as you can tell, I’m not great with paints but I really do enjoy painting with gouache and just felt like painting to kill my boredom. I decided to continue despite my most important colour for this piece having dried up in the tube beyond salvage, so this is purely a just-for-the-hell-of-it kind of thing. There are like a million things wrong with this little thing (eep those antennae ahaha) but the fact that it exists is progress.
2 weeks to go until I start my degree... I’m a bit nervous and to be honest, I still feel quite burnt out but I’m hoping my mood improves when I actually get there.
I recently found some ponyo art books I was sent from family in Japan years ago. I remember why I loved this movie so much. I want to try to do more scenery studies like these bcs they were fun.
Everything about this drawing makes me happy, but the detail that makes my Undead heart sing is the yellow-covered copy of Dracula. It's the 1897 edition, designed to evoke the appearance of the 'yellowback' - the cheap sensational fiction sold at railway stations at the time. Dr Watson was mentioned reading one in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. (Above is the miniature version I made for my haunted dollhouse.)
Cover me in sunshine...Shower me with good times
Tell me that the world's been spinning since the beginning....And everything will be alright
What can I say, my little nosferatu loves yellow. Get some sleep, Aurik.
watercolour and gouache with coloured pencil detailing, a little white ink for highlights.
Pull Me Out - May 2017
Was alternating between calling this one Bloodlines (b/c there was supposed to be lines but I figured they'd be extra) and So Indiscreet (from Mother Mother's Reaper Man) but I opted for an Oh Land lyric instead. Watercolor, gouache (standard and acrylic,) ink, dish soap and salt washes. About 10x16.
Got a new gouache set for Christmas so you just know I had to paint the prettyboy
Randomly saw a pokemon joke with cheese and a mew around here but I didn´t save so I can´t reference it, but anyway the idea came from that XD
L. V., i found this poem when you kept me awake ‘til 4 in the morning
EN || Happy birthday to me!! Best wishes to those of you who also celebrate your birthday today, and to those who don't, a very merry unbirthday to you! I love dark chocolate, in all its versions, whether it’s cookies, muffins or of course a good cake (always with less sugar than usual, I’m not really into sweet things). Give me this cake without the frosting and I'm the happiest person in the world. Although right now I can't eat sweets, I hope this little mouse has a good feast and blows out all the candles! Do you know where the tradition of blowing out the candles comes from? Well, there are several theories about its origin, but the one I like the most is the ancient Greece one, where it was a tradition to bring round cakes to the temple of Artemis (the goddess of the moon). That symbolized the complete lunar circle, the cake had a lighted candle that represented the glow of the moon. This candle would later be blown so the smoke would take the person’s wish to the gods. I love this tradition of making a wish to celebrate the day we came into the world. I hope that all your wishes, as impossible they may seem, come true!
EN|| I’ve made a new version of the little snail in love. It's been a long time since I had the sketch and the color tests made in procreate and I also made a version of the same illustration in a vertical format for the power in numbers exhibition at @gallerynucleus . I also have a new version pending where I want to experiment more with gouache and use less watercolor!🐌 In the images you can see the final result, the first step with just a layer of watercolor and gouache for the blue in the background, and the sketch. By the way, remember that if you want to have or gift one of the postcards from the exhibition, you still have them available in the gallery's online store!
This is my Art vs Artist 2022!!
The photo is quite old (I haven't changed much), but I haven't found one where I’m not wearing pajamas!
If last year was weird, this one has taken the cake! Although I can't complain, this year has also brought me beautiful projects and wonderful moments!
For this time of year, with so many supposed rains and changes in temperature, it’s great to wake up and drink a glass of warm water with lemon juice on an empty stomach. It’s a natural remedy that helps defenses, as well as it provides vitamin C, potassium and flavanones, promotes digestion and is also purifying and alkalizing. The recipe is easy, squeeze the juice from one lemon, heat a glass of water until it’s warm and, finally, add the lemon juice to the warm water. If you want to give it a more citric touch and enhance the benefits of the lemon, instead of just warming the water you can boil it with the lemon peel, then let it cool until it’s just warm enough to drink it and add the lemon juice! As with all remedies, not everyone reacts the same so my recommendation is to listen to your own body. Also, due to its acidity, it’s not recommended for people who have delicate teeth.🍋
EN|| Hi! Perhaps this little frog looks familiar to you, I made a very similar one in a square format more than a year ago (Wow! Time flies, it almost seems like it was yesterday when I had to put on the headlamp to paint it, because the electricity had gone out). This one, unlike the one from a year ago, is in a vertical format, has more little characters and, together with the snail, the fish and a toucan (which I haven't shown you yet), they’ll be on @gallerynucleus collective exhibition "Power in number 7 ”, opening on September 3rd in Alhambra CA. The entire postcard, like the others, is 5”x7” and is made with watercolors, gouache, polychromos, neocolors and watercolor pencils Remember the exhibition will debut in person only and is “cash and carry”, meaning once someone buys a piece, the buyer takes it home instead of remaining on display. The earlier you go, the more pieces you can see! If you’re interested you can find more information about the event on the gallery's website! I hope you go!
EN|| This year I’ve the pleasure of participating in the collective exhibition “Power in numbers 7” at @gallerynucleus in Alhambra (California, USA) with four original postcards. Here you can see a close up of my favorite postcard “marine wildlife” full of little fish with chubby cheeks and pink lips. I’m a little sad to say goodbye to the piece but I hope it finds a great house where it’s appreciated and loved! If you want to buy it, the exhibition opens on September 3, however you can find more information on the gallery’s website. Not only it’s my favorite illustration (how can it not be… have you seen the little crab’s eyelashes?!) but I’ve also had a great time painting it, I used watercolors, gouache, polychromos and neocolors. By the way! Which little fish is your favorite? I’m in love with the yellow one on the top! 💛
EN|| I’m so excited to share another one of the pieces that will be in @gallerynucleus Power In Numbers 7 collective exhibition alongside a ton of amazing artists! This time is a little snail loving her life surrounded by bees and pomegranades! In this close up you can see next to the illustration the color tests I did while I was painting. 🐌♥️ All the postcards are 5”x7” and made using gouache, watercolor, neocolors, polychromos and watercolor pencils. The show will debut in person only and is cash and carry, meaning once a piece is purchased the buyer takes it home with them rather than be on display the duration of the entire show. The earlier people come, the more they can see! Opening reception is September 3rd 5:00PM - 8:00PM in Alhambra, CA. You can find more information about the event in the gallery’s web.
ENG || Second experiment of textures and materials. I don't like this caterpillar as much as the little frog, perhaps the leaves with so much watercolor textures bother me next to the caterpillar since it doesn’t stand out as much as I’d like to, perhaps I’ve mixed to many colors or I’m simply not used to paint with so many dark colors although it could also be that I look at it with bad eyes, with those glasses of perfectionism on... What do you think?
