We talk a lot about 30 million kruge, because of course we do, but we don’t mention often enough that the original offer was FIVE. It took Kaz one conversation to get it from five million to twenty million, and then he demanded thirty anyway. I love him.

Ferdinand and Nina = Nina and Matthais. Matthias is the bull, Nina's well, Nina.
Why do I think so? Nina from 'Ferdinand' spends the whole movie trying to convince everyone that Ferdinand is not a monster and not like other bulls (who would and could kill people)
Nina from SoC spends her time trying to prove matty innocent and when she meets Zoya and the other Grisha she tries to tell them Matthias is not like the drüskelle any more. Show!Nina also tells Zoya that Matthias is not just a slab of fur
Conclusion : go re-watch 'Ferdinand' (the 2017/2018 vers)

The wraith.
The name whispered amoung the ranks of the Dregs had now been given to her beloved boat.
Inej sighed contently as she looked out at the blue sea before her.
The breeze knitted a soft braid into her dark hair, the sea salt scented winds filled her senses as her eyes fell on the city which was Ketterdam.
The crows had organised a little meeting, after a few years of not seeing eachother together, this was finally a week of rest, relaxation and fun for Inej. She wouldn't be going out to sea anymore. For a mont atleast.
Nina and Matthais had planned for the group to visit their house in Fjerda. Inej was thrilled to meet their son, who would be turning one this year. Jesper wanted to take them to meet his Da, Colm Fahey, whom Inej missed in all her travels. She was eager to see how Kaz had expanded the crow club. Wylan wanted to tour all over Shu Han and Ravka, and Inej wasn't one to object.
Inej laughed thinking of all the fun they'd have.
“Captain! We prepare to anchor?” a familiar voice perked up from behind Inej. She felt two arms wrap around her waist.
She knew who it was.
Y/N Y/L/N, her most trusted travel companion and most importantly—

“ofcourse my love.” Inej laughed.
“Inej!” Jesper exclaimed, running toward the girl as she walked through the familiar doors of the crow club.
“Jes!” yelled Inej as Jesper twirled her in the air.
“Good to see you back, wraith, or should I say, captain Ghafa.” rasped Kaz from beside him, extending a gloved hand.
“Good to see you too, Kaz.” replied Inej, taking his hand in hers.
Inej's heart bubbled at the sight of her two brothers, or the closest thing she had to them.
“Where are Nina and Matthais?” she asked.
“They arrived a about thirty minutes ago. Wylan went to pick them up.” answered Jesper.
“Are they bringing their son?”
“I think they are. Not sure.” Kaz scratched the back of his head.
“Inej, my love, where do I put my luggage?” huffed Y/N as she pulled in a huge chest like suitcase.
“My love? Who is she, Inej?” asked Jesper, repeating Y/N’s words in shock.
Inej turned to Kaz, face flushing furiously, hoping to see disappointment of some sort. But instead, she found him grinning madly from ear to ear.
He wore a look. A look which asked , ‘are you both together? When ? Where? How? Tell me.’
Inej smiled shyly.
“I thought I'd tell you all. Together.”
“Tell us what together?” Called Wylan from the doorway.
“Wylan!” Inej cheered.
The boy barreled toward her, wrapping her up in a tight hug.
“We. Have. So. Much. To. Talk about!” squealed Wylan, squeezing Inej's palms.
“Inej! There's my favourite pirate!” before Inej could process, Nina Zenik had her engulfed in her welcoming arms, joined by Matthais Helvar and a certain little child.
“Nina! Saints, it's been long!” Inej chuckled, wiggling out of the corpse witch’s grip.
“Okay okay! We need to go out for waffles! That's a must!” yelled Nina. “And this, is Feliks Sven Helvar, my adorable little boy.” Nina held up a small child.
“Hello, Little one.” cooed Inej, holding out her finger for the infant, who gladly took it.
He was an adorable tiny blend of Nina and Matthais. He had Matthais’s Fjerdan nose, and Nina's Ravkan warm forest green eyes. He had ombre hair, blonde locks like his father, which were brown at the roots like his mother's.
“So, Inej here, has a little something to tell us.” Jesper cleared his throat and gestured between Inej and Y/N.
“Oh! Who's this?” asked Wylan.
“ I'm Y/N Y/L/N, part of Inej's amazing crew.” grinned the girl, sinking into a bow.
“ And, my girlfriend.” said Inej, wrapping her arm around Y/N's waist.
Y/N's expression was shocked. Are you sure about this? She mouthed uncertainty.
It's not that you were embarrassed of your relationship. You were very affectionate, leaving springs of wild Geraniums in Inej's cups, her hats, and her books. Buying her thoughtful gifts. Hugging her and cuddling her whenever you got the chance to. But Inej knew the fact why you cast her that look.
No one knew about their relationship. So far, only a few among their crew and Inej's parents knew.
Inej was scared about how the crows would react about her intrest in girls, she hoped that something bad wouldn't happen.
Y/N was shipped from a few brothels and bawds before Inej freed her. She had no family. Her trauma probably lead her to fear what others might think of her being not so straight.
Inej faced the same fear. She knew the crows wouldn't be mad or weird about her interests. But saints, Inej had to worry.
“Oh my saints! We need to celebrate! With waffles ofcourse.” Nina cut the silence.
Jesper was the first to laugh. The others followed. Even Kaz let out a small chuckle.
“ Welcome to the family Y/N Y/L/N.” Said Jesper, pulling you into a hug.
“ We're so happy to meet you.” Wylan joined the hug.
Soon, Inej saw her whole group of friends, including Kaz, coddled around a very happy Y/N.
“Thank you f-for accepting me.” said Y/N, voice no higher than a whisper.
Inej looked at her girlfriend with happy tears in her eyes.
Y/N lunged forward into Inej's arms. Inej returned the gesture with a kiss on her forehead.
“Waffles.” Nina perked up.
“ Yes Nina. Waffles.” Kaz rolled his eyes. “Tell me how you took care of her while pregnant? Is this how your tree god paid you for my tree jokes?” he asked Matthais.
The Fjerdan let out a booming hearty laugh, starting the child in his arms.
“So, Y/N.” Jesper began, bouncing from one foot to another. “ What is Inej's favourite flower?” he raised a brow.
“ Wild Geraniums.” replied Y/N, pulling out a spring of the said flower from her pockets.
“This calls for a celebration!” yelled Wylan.
The rest of the crows smiled, nodding in agreement.
Matthais being killed essentially by a younger version of himself will never fail to make me sad. Even in SoC, I always had a bit of a soft spot for him. I'm not sure why, but I just...did, I guess? And I was so happy when he made it over his hurdles in SoC. When he finally accepted how much he actually adored Nina.
But mostly, it's him coming to terms with the fact that maybe Grisha aren't all that bad. I absolutely loved his arc of overcoming his own prejudices. I also love how it isn't very rushed. His acceptance didn't feel sudden to me, it made perfect sense when it happened considering everything, at least in my opinion.
I only watched season 1 and a bit of season 2 of Shadow and Bone, so if it's different in the series (which I wouldn't know myself because I don't really remeber the show other than somehow squishsing the Crows in with the main story,) disregard this post.
Just thinking about helnik become a enemies-to lover-to enemies-to lover.
And then i remember that Matthias is dead

this is just six of crows but here we go:
- nina and matthias never actually abandoned their duties for “love”. they accept each other, but at the same time are tormented by their loyalty to their country. nina and matthias are extremely homesick all the time; nina never discarded her faithfulness in ravka or grisha and matthias never renounced his religion. they changed because of one another, yes, but their story is not just “enemies to lovers”.
- inej’s sexual trauma can be set off when someone touches her - even when nina or jesper hugs her. she doesn’t react quite as badly as kaz, but physical contact still triggers her. she suppressed it so even kaz didn’t know about this until she told him.
- jesper can actually hold his own in a physical, non-gun related fight (i have proof). he is also smart enough to make his own guns with the help of a fabrikator, to argue with wylan about explosive materials and to pursue higher education. he is not just a comedic relief.
- kaz is ruthless, amoral and cold but he is not a distant boss to the other crows. he makes jokes with them, flips jesper off when they banter, jokingly calls inej “treasure of [his] heart” and nina “love”, loses bets to wylan and makes fun of matthias’s religiousness - most of the time he acts like their slappable friend with a dark sense of humor and a questionable haircut.
- wylan is not just jesper’s cute love interest that tags along on a job just for shits and giggles and the occasional booms and bangs. he is a deeply damaged child who still believes in goodness despite never believing in himself.
for people who haven’t read the shadow and bone/ six of crows books, but have seen the show:
- inej ghafa is a survivor of childhood sex trafficking. she has ptsd and reacts in a panic attack at even walking past the menagerie
- kaz’s trauma isn’t just pekka rollins being responsible for jordie’s death, and waking up on the barge. he had to swim to shore, age nine and barely alive, using jordie’s body as a float
- the darkling has done far worse things than are shown on screen. he is not a ‘lost man’ and alina is not his ‘balance’
- alina was seventeen upon the darkling being nsfw/ romantic with her
- matthias helvar did not lead drüskelle, that was jarl brum- matthias is only just barely an adult himself
- the crows are not their own separate gang, they are part of the dregs, who per haskell leads and kaz takes over from haskell after haskell sold out his lieutenant (kaz) to pekka rollins
- zoya, genya, and alina have personalities outside of either being traumatised or hating each other
- alina never wanted any of the power and fame and idolatry, and in the end of the books is stripped of it all. she is very happy about this
- jesper is a gambling addict and somebody who watched the death of his mother
Can we talk about Henik last scene. It was so emotional. So painfully for me. So that I even can't imagine that will happened when Nina stayed without Mathias.
I was crying at this moment when I'd read the book. And WHAT will be when we see this scene in S&B? Because it can be in one of the seasons. And I will die when Matias will return to his home*sobbing right now* again...
Nina Zenik is a whole another level of iconic. She read dark romances and said "I'll do enemies to lovers" and actually pulled it off.
Reading King of Scars has hit me deep. I am half way through and shipping Zoyalai and Genya x David so hard. I love David so much. He is my goat. I have been hit in the face with Nikolai backstory, getting teased boy Zoya's, and crying over Matthias and Nina. I am having fun anotating.
Timpanist!Kaz who, despite taking a little bit longer than others to tune the timpani, is one of the most skilled players.
Timpanist!Kaz who spends a ridiculous amount of time choosing the perfect pair of mallets for every piece.
Timpanist!Kaz whos eyes keep finding the principal cellist....
Cellist!Inej whos fingers practically dance on the fret board of her cello.
Cellist!Inej who is constantly breaking her bow strings from how passionately she plays
Cellist!Inej who has to ignore the broody timpanist to not get distracted.
Trombonist!Jesper who is well known for how fast he can play.
Trombonist!Jesper who can become proficient in any brass instrument in under 30 minutes.
Trombonist!Jesper who always finds himself hanging out in the wind section
Flautist!Wylan who always comes in on time
Flautist!Wylan who fills his sheet music with doodles instead of writing in notes
Flautist!Wylan who always finds himself with the brass players
Horn player!Nina whos case is covered in stickers
Horn player!Nina who is friends with everyone in the orchestra
Horn play!Nina who might be something more with the bass player
Bassist!Mattias who is always gets his dynamics perfect
Bassist!Mattias who hoards rosin
Bassist!Mattias who isn't quite sure what he and the horn player are but is too scared to ask

nina: well at first it was really intense, you know? and then we just sort of sunk into it.

nina: no actually at first they started out on my waist and then they slid up and were in my hair.
inej: oh!
MEANWHILE:
matthias: then i kissed her.
jesper: tongue?
matthias: yeah.
kaz: cool.
jesper: i've always been a little confused about this, why can't you kill wolves?
matthias: we believe wolves are gods
nina: not technically, in drüskelle culture, wolves are thought to be like god
matthias: do not tell me about my own culture, nina! in the mood i'm in, i'll take you out, i swear to wolf!
i really hope that Kaz sometimes visits The Wraith and helps Inej with her slaver hunting. i hope that Inej comes around Ketterdam and they have dinner. i hope Wylan and Jesper save a spare room for her, just in case. i hope Kaz gets roped into visiting the Van Eck house once a week. i hope Nina comes to Ketterdam after her wedding. i hope they’re all invited. i hope Inej is her maid of honor. i hope Jesper and Wylan live so long that they get married. i hope Kaz, Inej, and Nina are sitting and laughing at the reception. i hope Kaz finally finds peace, and finds Inej.
