A blog about one of my favorite artists, Atsuko Nishida!
Atsuko is a video game artist. She works for the Pokemon company and has been ever since the first games! Originally most of the Pokemon designs were supposed to appear scary or tough like Charizard or Tyranitar, but she took some of the designs and gave them a cutesy look!
Atsuko is also the mastermind behind the company’s mascot Pikachu! She also designed a couple of the eevee evolutions and even designed my favorite Pokemon Zoroark! Not only that but if it wasn’t for her, Ivysaur would look like this!
Another cute fact about this artist is she’s super camera shy, during an interview in 2018 she spent the entire thing hiding behind a Pikachu plush!
Atsuko’s work is very important to the company because without her design we wouldn’t have a balance of designs within the Pokemon games. We mainly have intimidating ones such as Garchomp or Metagross.
Atsuko is an inspiration to me because not only are her designs diverse and loved by all but they also hold purpose in a way. The main rule of a pokemon design is that they need to look like they’d be your friend, I feel that Atsuko pulls this off really well! I try and make my work to have the same feel, some of my characters may look intimidating but deep down inside they’re total sweethearts who will have your back no matter what, either that or they’re just goofballs who want to have a good time with you!
One of the things that amazes me about her is that when she made the design for the company’s mascot, Pikachu, she didn’t make any concept sketches! She went straight to the computer and started punching dot’s to create him. She even quoted it herself in one of her interviews!
I like her designs because of how much character they hold and the color schemes and inspiration behind them are interesting! Not only that but the designs are also loved by many people and I wish to have people enjoy my designs, similarly to how they enjoy Atsuko’s!

Started drawing this after the ask was answered. These were the moments that "Hoenn" chose them, Ruby finally seeing that he has the power to help and choosing not to run away anymore and fight. While for Sapphire she finally found out the the "real enemy" where in the Seafloor Cavern.
Do you think that the Blue and Red Orbs have a conscious? In the RS manga they were thought to be alive since they choose their controllers. But in the ORAS the stated that the orbs were the manifestation Hoenn's natural energy. It just got me wondering, can energy have a conscious? There are two orbs so 2 conscious? So does this mean that Hoenn itself choose Ruby and Sapphire to be the controllers? Just asking what you think.
I think you’re right. Remember back in the scene where Archie and Maxie were trapped in the distortion world? Well I now believe the voice that called to them were the orbs…
I do believe you’re definately right, Hoenn itself is manifested in the orbs and chose Ruby and Sapphire just like Jaun said, rather than it being a coincidence.
The orbs do have a concience and so does Hoenn’s nature itself.
