A blog about one of my favorite artists, Atsuko Nishida!

image

Atsuko is a video game artist. She works for the Pokemon company and has been ever since the first games! Originally most of the Pokemon designs were supposed to appear scary or tough like Charizard or Tyranitar, but she took some of the designs and gave them a cutesy look!

Atsuko is also the mastermind behind the company’s mascot Pikachu! She also designed a couple of the eevee evolutions and even designed my favorite Pokemon Zoroark! Not only that but if it wasn’t for her, Ivysaur would look like this!

Another cute fact about this artist is she’s super camera shy, during an interview in 2018 she spent the entire thing hiding behind a Pikachu plush!

Atsuko’s work is very important to the company because without her design we wouldn’t have a balance of designs within the Pokemon games. We mainly have intimidating ones such as Garchomp or Metagross.

Atsuko is an inspiration to me because not only are her designs diverse and loved by all but they also hold purpose in a way. The main rule of a pokemon design is that they need to look like they’d be your friend, I feel that Atsuko pulls this off really well! I try and make my work to have the same feel, some of my characters may look intimidating but deep down inside they’re total sweethearts who will have your back no matter what, either that or they’re just goofballs who want to have a good time with you!

One of the things that amazes me about her is that when she made the design for the company’s mascot, Pikachu, she didn’t make any concept sketches! She went straight to the computer and started punching dot’s to create him. She even quoted it herself in one of her interviews!

I like her designs because of how much character they hold and the color schemes and inspiration behind them are interesting! Not only that but the designs are also loved by many people and I wish to have people enjoy my designs, similarly to how they enjoy Atsuko’s!

Even Ghetsis Pays his Taxes

*Scene in Pokemon Masters opens*

*We see a bunch of Unovans characters furiously working on papers. A whole range that includes, but not limited to, the player characters.*

*Enter scene: May, Brandon, Maxie, and Archie*

Brandon: Hey Nate! Are you ready for our Pokemon battle?

*Nate looks up*

Nate: Oh! I'm so sorry! I can't go! I have to pay my taxes first!

Brandon: ?

Brandon: You pay taxes?

Nate: Yes! I have to get it before next week! And since we're at Pasio, I'll to mail it overseas. If I don't get it done now, it could be late when it arrives!

Brandon: ?????

Archie: Now don't worry laddie. Isn't that true big of a deal. It will get there when it gets there. Nothing to worry about.

Clay: Nothing to worry about? You won't say that with the government hounding you down! Doing all investigating-

Maxie: Now, now. I understand that paying one's taxes are important, unlike someone here-

Archie: Hey! I pay them! Eventually...

Maxie: But you need not worry too much about being late. Everything sorts itself out. Now about that battle ...

*All the Unovans look at them in abject horror.*

Clay: You don't pay your taxes? And you're a freeman?

Grimsley: Not worry?! Not worry?!?!?

Hilbert: Brandon! May! Do you need help with your taxes? My grandma gave me tips so now I save so much!

Brandon: Wait? I need to pay taxes?!

May: Hold it!!!

*Silence*

May: Why are all of you so worried? Is the government that threatening if you don't pay your taxes?

*Ghetsis chooses that moment to walk on screen with his own sheet of taxes.*

Ghetsis: Child, even I pay my taxes on time. In full.

Rosa: Hey? Can I borrow a pen?

*Ghetsis hands her one.*

All the trainers from Hoenn: WHAT?????

*End Scene*

Driftveil Drawbridge: Why Charizard?

[Opinion Piece by yours truly, copied from Luvdiscord and edited for clarity.]

I don't understand why it's been a trend lately to call the drawbridge the "Charizard Bridge", especially among the younger kids. I mean, if I squint hard enough I can see the vision, but... Charizard? Really? I think Reshiram would be a much better choice if you want a fire-breathing dragon, considering the fact that it's one of Unova's very own legendary Pokémon, not the final evolution of a starter from Kanto. Honestly, I'm just disappointed that more people don't call it the "Swanna Bridge".

I think part of this comes from the recent trend of "Kantobsession" (as I like to call it) - so many people are just obsessed with the region and its dex, its food, its culture, the like. Nothing wrong with loving Kanto (it's the region that pioneered many of the inventions in the Pokétech industry, after all) but I feel like nicknaming it after Charizard... it's a bit dismissive of its history, its purpose for being built, the Pokémon that helped build it, no? I know the residents of Undella and Humilau would throw a fit if someone suggested nicknaming the Marine Tube the "Wailord Tube", though in their defense, the amount of Frillish and Jellicent in that area year-round more than outnumber the times a Wailord has been spotted in all of the 12 or so years that it's been open... Not the best example, honestly. But my point still stands.

TLDR; I'm just complaining about a nickname for a bridge, of all things. If you have any thoughts/responses to this, please feel free to share them! If you're a "Charizarder" I'm genuinely interested in hearing your opinion - why Charizard?

Welcome & Introduction

Hello and welcome to the Unova Bridges Enthusiast's blog! I created this blog as a space for all bridge enthusiasts to come together and blab about the engineering and different aspects of the bridges, show photos of the bridges, their paintings... even events happening on the bridges! (Organizations are welcome to reach out, some form of flyer or ad is greatly preferred.) However, that's not to say that train enthusiasts and vehicle enthusiasts aren't welcome here. Without bridges, we wouldn't have easy access to many parts of the region, and without trains and vehicles, we wouldn't have these wonderful bridges in the first place. Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy!
