“Father” a toddler (Y/n) asked. They sniff & wipe the tears from their face. “Why am I so worthless?”
Not a moment later & Lilia & Malleus spat out their drinks. Ignoring the mess they’ve made, they rushed over to comfort (Y/n).
“Sweetheart. What kind of question is that? You’re never worthless” said Lilia, placing (Y/n) on his lap before wiping their tears with tissue.
“That’s right, little (Y/n). You bring joy to us every day simply by being yourself. Pray tell, who says otherwise” asked Mallues.
“Umm… The other kids at my school. They say mean things behind my back” said (Y/n) with some sniffles.
“Like what?” asked Lilia.
“I’m so weak, any animal can eat me. They also laugh at how weak my magic is, thinking that I don’t belong there.”
“What other terrible things do they do to you?” asked Lilia. He didn’t want to believe his little angel was being harassed at school, but he had to hear what his child had to say.
“They sometimes steal my snacks, especially the cookies one of the maids bakes for me a lot. My teacher was nice enough to give me some of her cake. It wasn’t that good, though”
“Did you at least say thank you to your teacher?”
“I did. I was still sad that my cookies were being stolen a lot.” Suddenly, (Y/n) asked if they could come to their room. They wanted to show them something.
Looking worriedly at each other, Malleus & Lilia agreed. After arriving at the young child’s room, they patiently wait as (Y/n) rummages through their backpack to pull out a folded piece of paper. Reading the contents of the note made both Lilia & Malleus’s blood boil.
“That academy will rue the day they made my (Y/n) question their self-worth” muttered Lilia.
Luckily for him, there was to be a teacher parent conference soon.
A week later…
At the front of their academy, (Y/n) was patiently waiting for Lilia to arrive. It seems that most, if not all, of their classmates’ parents have arrived & not seeing their father made them more anxious.
Please show up, Papa. I’m scared, (Y/n) thought as they clutched their backpack straps.
An adult fae notices the frightened, human child & approaches them. “Excuse me, little one. Are you perhaps lost?” She noticed the school’s emblem on (Y/n)’s blazer. “Oh? I did not think you attended this prestigious academy for this kingdom’s youth.”
“Hm? Why not?”
“Umm…”
“I think I’d like to know the answer to that as well,” said Lilia, appearing out of nowhere.
Suddenly, the air around the fae lady felt. Turning around, she couldn’t believe who stood before her.
“The-The former Dread General…”
“Why yes. That is I, Madam. How observant of you.”
Thrilled, (Y/n) rushed over & gave Lilia as big of a hug as they could muster. “Daddy!”
“My precious, (Y/n). I hope I didn’t keep you waiting for long.”
“I was starting to get scared when I saw everyone else’s parents show up.”
“Oh? Then I’ll personally take you to the Jade Lighthouse. You know, that one seafood restaurant we went to for Prince Malleus's birthday last year?"
A bunch of fae were whispering to each other. "How could this human child belong to the former Dread General? They actually know the young prince too?!"
Not paying any attention to everyone's stares, (Y/n) smiled. They remembered loving the food there, although they can't remember what they ordered. Was it a burger? A salad? Some fried shrimp? Whatever they had, they remembered loving it.
As they were heading to (Y/n)'s classroom, Lilia was thinking about the idea of (Y/n) being homeschooled. He was initially against it because he wanted them to interact with other people. However, he was concerned about (Y/n) gaining a negative perception of the world. He'll just have to think about what's the best decision for his child.
