Solar System: Things to Know This Week
Our solar system is a jewel box filled with a glittering variety of beautiful worlds--and not all of them are planets. This week, we present our solar system's most marvelous moons.
1. Weird Weather: Titan
Saturn's hazy moon Titan is larger than Mercury, but its size is not the only way it's like a planet. Titan has a thick atmosphere, complete with its own "water cycle" -- except that it's way too cold on Titan for liquid water. Instead, rains of liquid hydrocarbons like ethane and methane fall onto icy mountains, run into rivers, and gather into great seas. Our Cassini spacecraft mapped the methane seas with radar, and its cameras even caught a glimpse of sunlight reflecting off the seas' surface. 2. Icy Giant: Ganymede
Jupiter's moon Ganymede is the largest in the solar system. It's bigger than Mercury and Pluto, and three-quarters the size of Mars. It's also the only moon known to have its own magnetic field. Details: solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/ganymede/indepth
3. Retrograde Rebel: Triton
Triton is Neptune's largest moon, and the only one in the solar system to orbit in the opposite direction of its planet's rotation, a retrograde orbit. It may have been captured from the Kuiper Belt, where Pluto orbits. Despite the frigid temperatures there, Triton has cryovolcanic activity -- frozen nitrogen sometimes sublimates directly to gas and erupts from geysers on the surface. 4. Cold Faithful: Enceladus
The most famous geysers in our solar system (outside of those on Earth) belong to Saturn's moon Enceladus. It's a small, icy body, but Cassini revealed this world to be one of the solar system's most scientifically interesting destinations. Geyser-like jets spew water vapor and ice particles from an underground ocean beneath the icy crust of Enceladus. With its global ocean, unique chemistry and internal heat, Enceladus has become a promising lead in our search for worlds where life could exist. 5. Volcano World: Io
Jupiter's moon Io is subjected to tremendous gravitational forces that cause its surface to bulge up and down by as much as 330 feet (100 m). The result? Io is the most volcanically active body in the Solar System, with hundreds of volcanoes, some erupting lava fountains dozens of miles high. 6. Yin and Yang Moon: Iapetus
When Giovanni Cassini discovered Iapetus in 1671, he observed that one side of this moon of Saturn was bright and the other dark. He noted that he could only see Iapetus on the west side of Saturn, and correctly concluded that Iapetus had one side much darker than the other side. Why? Three centuries later, the Cassini spacecraft solved the puzzle. Dark, reddish dust in Iapetus's orbital path is swept up and lands on the leading face of the moon. 7. A Double World: Charon and Pluto
At half the size of Pluto, Charon is the largest of Pluto's moons and the largest known satellite relative to its parent body. The moon is so big compared to Pluto that Pluto and Charon are sometimes referred to as a double planet system. Charon's orbit around Pluto takes 6.4 Earth days, and one Pluto rotation (a Pluto day) takes 6.4 Earth days. So from Pluto's point of view Charon neither rises nor sets, but hovers over the same spot on Pluto's surface, and the same side of Charon always faces Pluto. 8. "Death Star" Moon: Mimas
Saturn's moon Mimas has one feature that draws more attention than any other: the crater Herschel, which formed in an impact that nearly shattered the little world. 9. Don't Be Afraid, It's Just Phobos
In mythology, Mars is a the god of war, so it's fitting that its two small moons are called Phobos, "fear," and Deimos, "terror." Our Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter caught this look at Phobos, which is roughly 17 miles (27 km) wide. 10. The Moon We Know Best
Although decades have passed since astronauts last set foot on its surface, Earth's moon is far from abandoned. Several robotic missions have continued the exploration. Everyday was the same go to work,get some of the project done, get called to the director's office, stay there for the rest of the day, go home and if it was friday watch Slaughter Time. I enter the large building grunts greeting me as I walk by, as I enter the lab I notice that Christoff what not here yet, I only manage to sit down for a few seconds before a grunt tells me the the director needs me, I stand up and start walking, each step making me more nervous than before until I was at the office door, I take a deep breath before pushing open the door. Inside sitting at the chair was Phobos and in front of him was his desk "Y-you wanted t-to see me s-sir" I stuttered out, I could feel the sweat coming down on my face, "Yes Dr. (y/n) why don't you have a seat" his voice had a slight teasing tone, as I look around I find no chair "u-um sir w-where should I sit" I ask him and I could see a smirk growing on his face as pats his leg, a slight blush appears on my face"A-are you sure s-sir I am a bit on the...heavier side" I look down at my body, I was a little bit overweight but Christoff said he loved that about me, a growl cuts off my thoughts as I looked back at Phobos, I let out a small meep before hurriedly going over to his side, sitting on his legs and lap, he then pulled me in so my head was on his chest, I could feel the heat on my face as he continued to work all while grabbing at my fat and petting my hair.

"I guess so" I reply grabbing my things before heading out with him, he then notices the rubbing " Are you ok?" he asks with concern "Oh yes I just fell and It hurts a little" "oh well then would you like me to walk you home " I nod my head as we continued walking chatting about different things, at least today is friday.

A Thought Occurs to me...about the Horror Twins.
Since Ares is the second hottest male god in terms of raw looks on Olympus (and first place if you account for overall charisma) and Aphrodite is...Aphrodite. ...Would Phobos and Deimos also be hot?

Now that I think about the AU, I can't help but think that Odysseus and his crew found an abandoned temple of Phobos, where a lone lame wolf was hanging out, and he was shot for safety.

Phobos is the personification of the warriors' fears. What they fight for. They are afraid of losing their loved ones if they lose, so they continue to fight. They are afraid for themselves, so they go on despite the pain. They are afraid for their friends, so they try to fight together.
Only fools are not afraid.
Deimos is the personification of what warriors are willing to do for love. Father need to kill everyone for the safety of his family? He will. Mother need to distract the enemies so that the children can go unnoticed? So be it. Death guarantee peace? Fine.

I don't understand why people don't talk about them. Phobos has so much potential since they are this concept that doesn't understand humans but loves Remuria's citizens all the same and will do whatever it takes to protect its legacy and fullfil their deepest and darkest wishes until the end
Honestly fuck the ending. He doesn't die, he lives happily ever after as a human, and no one can tell me otherwise.
I just fell in love with his character and the history of Remuria. Phobos is such an interesting concept. I would have loved to see more of them.
I plan on making a digital drawing as well on both Cassiador and Phobos.

W.I.T.C.H. Character Headcanons (bc I say so)
So for those of you who don't know, I'm creating a rewrite of W.I.T.C.H. on Wattpad. It will essentially be if it were given a live action adaptation with a standing total of 60 episodes (5 seasons; 12 episodes per season). These headcanons all apply to said rewrite -- I have my Wattpad linked on my blog so go check it out!
Irma is canonically a Latina lesbian, that's zero debate, however I specifically headcanon her as Guatemalan.
Taranee and Peter Cook are canonically blasian! The Cooks are out here representing the blended families! I will be taking no arguments or criticisms!
I read a post a while ago about how every other fantasy world is based on Medieval Europe, Metamoor/Meridian being one of them and I was like "you know what would be cool? if instead Metamoor was based on Ancient Indian culture." so that's what I did and now Elyon and Phobos are ethnically Indian (Elyon's new name is Elyon Bhandari and I can't think of it as anything else now) (plus Metamoor is actually ten times more interesting with the amount of lore I'm creating for it).
sidenote: I need it to be known that Elyon will also be serving as the vice president of the Sheffield Student Government/Student Council to foreshadow her queenliness and she's also a book girly and she has initiative and Phobos is actually clever enough in his manipulation tactics for Elyon to not question everything until the last couple days leading up to her coronation. I wanted the queen to serve.
Everyone imagine real quick (cartoon) Matt Olsen as a black man. I don't know how I started picturing him black but now I cannot stop because it just works! We need a black lead guitar/lead singer of a rock band everyone will be making thirst edits over who is also humble kind sweet loyal loving-- And can I just say he would look sexy hot with the Shagon dreads! Kio Cyr is literally Eric Lyndon! I found an image with him in a NASA t-shirt and I was like "that's him folks!" Though, I do specifically headcanon Eric as Filipino.
Alchemy is now Alchemy Torres and she's a chem/bio nerd with an affinity for puzzles. I'm still figuring her out but she will gain more importance in S2.
I made a crackship out of Nashter (one of the Runics from the 100% WITCH arc) and Taranee and now it's very very serious. Not only does he have a British accent (do not ask) but he and Taranee are basically a detective duo/partners-in-crime turned besties in S3, which corresponds with the Crisis on Both Worlds arc which means angsty Taranee which means incredible banter between a smartass and a flirt.
And when I tell you that Nashter is the only white Runic I mean it: Darmon is lighter skin black, Shalin is Asian of some sort (specific region TBD), Cromo is dark skin black, and Ran-Rah is indigenous af.
Caleb lowkey is giving indigenous energy? I've barely touched him but the farthest I've gotten is that I saw one fanart of Caleb if he were on Phobos' side originally and now he has a whole defection arc in S1 from head of Phobos' guard to rebel leader in addition with angsty C&C so there's that going for us.
can someone please explain phowill to me? like what’s the appeal? like the closest they get is in the season 2 episodes where they have to work together but even then they’re using each other for their advantages, the only exception being when matt is disguised as phobos and vice versa and again, that’s still matt. i guess i just want to understand if it’s just something about moral ambiguity or the hero x villain trope or if there’s something of more substance that i’m not seeing.
