It was so funny in my head I swear.
Also I will never figure out how to draw Warren.
It took me too long to realize that what Warren listened to in Gordon's cryosuit wasn't only the WYWH stuff. He also listened to the tapes from up to at least Premium Dead Forever. And I feel very stupid because he even REFERENCED these tapes to Bryony.
So we know for sure that he listened to Gordon cutting open the Yoghurt Lord. So. Uhm. Nice to know he is still acting normal around him I guess.
Also I'm curious if he listened to Grace calling Gordon Igor. He probably wouldn't call him out on it, since Grace's redemption arc, but I'm still curious. And also still a little bit pissed at Grace for that whole scene.
Still don't know why it took me so long to figure out the most obvious thing ever though.
Really appreciate how with Gordon, Warren's usually like "haha you creepy weirdo, let's go play videogames" and with anyone else that asks or not he's like "I literally care about nothing else aside from Gordon, if he doesn't make it I might kill everyone and then myself tbh"
THIS IS SO SICK OH MY GOD I KNEEL BEFORE YOUR SKILLSπππ
+ no text, slightly different colors version
i didn't realize on the first listen, but gordon didn't get the teddy bears picnic tape as a tape. he got the video feed recording, ripped the audio from that, mixed it with aubrey's log for maximum drama, practiced getting his timing right for his presentation, and then put all that on a tape that he knew wouldn't fit in a dictaphone so warren would have to listen to it with him in the golden bullet, effectively recreating the late night conversation in a car park that he never got to have with oscar. in one day.
gordon. oh my god you are so fucking extra.
Of course Clive Schill fucking plays Fortnite, of course he does, why wouldnβt he.
My wild Red Valley take is I actually think Bryony liked Gordon. I actually think Gordon is the only person at Red Valley she liked. Up until the moment she got fired because of him of course.
Like obviously she needed him to get information on Aubrey. But she could've interrogated and then got rid of him the moment Warren was in the pod. And she didn't!
She didn't like Clive, she wasn't happy with Pam and Grace and the only reason Warren was involved was her desperation. Her boss, her assistants and even her test subject were all not her choice. But you know who was her choice? Gordon Porlock.
She thinks they're similar and she wants Gordon to see and accept it too. She thinks he is competent which is a lot coming from Bryony. Especially since Gordon himself is not qualified for any of this. He's not qualified to address a scalpel wound, he's not qualified to manage the mental state of The Most Traumatized Person Ever and he's not qualified to look after a facility full of complicated and expensive equipment. And yet she keeps him. Of course, she is condescending and derogatory to him but I think it's just the way she is to people.
I don't think they could've been friends in another universe. And I don't think she cared. But I do think she liked him. Maybe she liked him as one might like an ant. But she liked him nonetheless.
"We want more complex characters!!!"
And it's the people who hate on Kevin Desert Bluffs.
And it's the people who hate on Elijah Volkov.
And it's the people who hate on Clive Schill.
And it's the people who hate on Yellow.
And it's the people who hate on Sasha Wire.
My mission to spread Red Valley agenda is successful. My roommate doesn't even listen to podcasts and she already adores Waffles more than she likes me. Probably because Waffles doesn't talk about Red Valley Pod all the time. But a win is a win!!
Red Valley pod... Come back to me Red Valley pod... My beautiful wife Red Valley pod I miss you so dearly why must you abandon me...
I was trying to have a miserable day but then I remembered Gordon Porlock is fine and well and isn't amnesiac and I started smiling like a crazy person on a bus. What 3 hours of sleep and red valley pod do to mf.
I honestly envy people that didn't find Red Valley that good. Like I can't imagine not being obsessed with this podcast. I have a life to live, I have hobbies, I have other interests, but I just can't get this masterpiece out of my head. Honestly concerning. Has to be one of my greatest hyperfixations of all time.
Warren Godby really said 'this guy is just interesting' and then proceeded to get away with him on a road trip to blow open some cryoshit (without telling his wife) and get codependent and abnormal about the guy over the course of about two weeks.
Folks I think this guy might be just interesting or something...
I've been relistening to Red Valley season 4 (like a normal and sane person) and I just realized that the reason Warren came to the cryosuit in EP4 was just so he could find out what he did. He could've asked GORD to tell him about it literally anywhere else. And yet he came to Gordon to learn the one thing about himself he'd been the most terrified of. Because Gordon makes him feel safe. Because Gordon is the only person that didn't know and didn't want to find out unless Warren would be fine with it.
I guess Warren's finally made a decision to look together (I mean in a way??)
Also worth mentioning that in Dracula the first one to give Lucy a blood transfusion was her fiancΓ©. And after that he felt like they were really married. Just saying, yk. It surely doesn't have a single thing to do with a particular podcast in which the themes of marriage and honesty and devotion may or may not arise.
Thinking about the eroticism of blood and blood transfusions in literature. In particular the way that itβs used in Dracula. That Lucy Westernaβs life is prolonged through transfusions by her three suitors, the three men who loved her.
And Iβm definitely not thinking about this in connection to any audio drama podcasts Iβve been listening to lately. Because, surely, this podcastβwhich contains countless references to pop culture and Samuel Taylor Coleridgeβdidnβt intentionally reference this literary history with a plot relevant blood transfusion.
Itβs the gayest thing I have ever heard.
Guys... Do you think I should make crochet Warren... So he and crochet Gordon could hold hands and be perfectly happy and fine together... Also I am totally making Waffles.
Something something Warren only wanted to get out of Red Valley with Gordon and without him it all seemed pointless. And now he's got Gordon back and he once again has a reason to break free even if he breaks free into an apocalyptic future he knows little to nothing about. They make me sick /affectionate/
I'm crazy for WYWH3 playlist can you tell. It's my comfort playlist I can't help it.
you ever think about how between the hostage situation and the transfusion warren was always willing to bleed for gordon
OK SO. THE SEASON FINALE. LETS GO.
Spoilers under the cut.
Giving him a taste of his own medicine.
First of all, I sobbed when the episode began with WYWH theme. It's just a very sweet and melancholic theme and I love it.
The sound design was on top the whole season but this one literally ate so hard it alone made me super emotional.
Now to the actual content.
MALCOLM OH MY GOD.
I am a weak woman and I am the type to EAT UP anything family-related. And the way Rebecca was sincere and concerned about someone probably for the first time in years... And Malcolm was so sweet and soft with her I was on the edge of tears.
Bryony and Warren are so dear to me with their bickering. Fist fighting each other could fix them actually.
In GORD we believe. It is the funniest and I really love that everyone at the Valley likes it's voice and finds it soothing. I just think it's very nice.
I really can't say anything coherent about the blood transfusion because I'm so overwhelmed by blood symbolism in media I can't really tell when it's symbolic and when it's just part of the plot and nothing more.
Warren and Gordon are so sweet I am about to explode. They're literally soulmates it's insane. Like they may not be the endgame and it's fine, they work as a dynamic either way, but they're like jigsaw pieces that belong together. They remember everything about each other, every line since the day they met. They get better and show their true colors every time they have a chance to talk. They can find strenght in each other, they can finally relax and laugh when they're together. I'm so happy they're finally back.
I don't know why but I just feel so peaceful after this episode. Truly a masterpiece.
Thanks!
One might argue that blood transfusion is like a less horny brother of cannibalism as a metaphor for love. Just saying. Just saying...
Ok Hannibal NBC and Dracula altered my brain chemistry so nobody should listen to me and be serious about it ever. But like...
Let's just say. They love each other.
Just so you know I am like EXTREMELY hyped and nervous about the season finale so in the next 48 hours I am probably going to be absolutely insufferable. Also I WILL be doing reaction pics with crochet Gordon so uh be ready I guess.
made a whole new tumblr just bc i saw this fandom seems to congregate here mostβ¦. hiβ¦.. i bestow this offering onto the βlet these guys be happy pleaseβ altar
He's free, he's barefoot, he's 3 apples tall and he can't see shit because I haven't made him glasses and have no idea how to. Gordon Bloody Porlock, is he a doll or what???
Actually considering crocheting my very own Gordon Porlock so I can have him as emotional support for the season finale. Watch me neglect my studies for the next week I guess.
β’ Bryony being human (pls)
β’ More bits about Bryony having only one hand
β’ Gordon's emergence goes wrong BUT in an unexpected way
β’ Warren doesn't know how to express emotions/is overwhelmed to the point of just standing in the corner with a blank expression
β’ Gordon says/does something at the end of the episode and we all freak out
β’ Clive is miserable (and possibly scheming)
β’ The Bastion. Give me more of these freaks.
β’ Hester saves the day (as usual)
We've gotta come up with bingo cards before the Red Valley early release.
Some ideas:
Stevie mention
GORD goes rogue
Impassioned speech by Becky
Becky kills someone
Pam kills someone
Robot dogs
Garden handholding
"That must be 3 minutes"
[Audible kissing]
Power Metal
Red Valley relisten hits so hard right now. I just miss Gordon so much he means the world to me.
Also 'let me live vicariously through you' is CRUEL. Dude NO SHIT you'll live vicariously through him. 44 YEARS IN THE FUTURE.
I really hope he's going to survive. This man has only ever known being overlooked and neglected let him be loved I'M BEGGING.
I like this moment so much.
Warren doesn't see Bryony as someone pathetic or incapable because of her condition. He doesn't succumb to her manipulations not because he thinks she's weak, he's just outgrown them. And I think it's because he's been in her place. He's been seen as someone incapable, as someone weak and wrong, as an object. He won't show her any support but he won't treat her as she treated him either.
Also, not related to my first point. Warren only mentions the way she looks once during the entire scene. However, Bryony mentions her appearance all the time. She is very conscious about the way she looks and it's clearly a very sensitive subject to her. But she doesn't want anyone too close to her actual feelings, so she makes jokes about it as a defence mechanism.
I'm not getting anywhere with this, I just think she's so real for only having violence and sarcasm as her defence options.
