LOTR is entourage but with Hobbits. You have a DYNAMIC crew of 4 (the titular entourage of Entourage), featuring a leader who drives the group forward and is the center of the plot (Frodo/Vinny CHASE) who has an intense & engaging deep psychosexual relation to his closest friend (Samwise/E), and two people who are connected to the group but never speak with the leader (Merry & Pipin / Turtle and Drama).
In both works they embark from their small hamlet (Hobbiton/Queens) on a grand quest to a great city (Rivendell/Hollywood). When they finally reach it their real quest begins (the destruction of the one ring/Vinny's big Hollywood career). Frodo/Vincent CHASE both have intense mentor mentee relationships with wise elder mentors (Gandalf/Ari) who persuades them into debauchery and their respective quests.
Questions?
If Lord of the Rings and Dune had a love child. And that child grew up to become its own independent person.
That's Wheel of Time.
@southfarthing you are absolutely correct and you should say it louder
I'm imagining if tolkien lived now and publishers were asking him if he had enough followers on twitter and if he could film videos to market his found family elfcore magic cottagevibes worldbuilding fantasy book on tiktok. i think he would run them over with his car actually
I strongly believe that someone cannot simultaneously be a Tolkien fan and use AI.
The story of The Lord of the Rings is inherently anti-industrialist and pro-environment. Destroying the forces that seek to oppress and harm the environment is a significant part of the plot. AI is a force of destruction. It kills habitats and contributes to climate change.
Not to mention, AI is anti-intellectual and promotes a lack of critical thinking in a world that is rapidly being radicalized toward fascism.
Is it really worth it to destroy the world just for personal convenience? I personally do everything possible to avoid using AI because it's not worth it. It will never be worth it.
I mean, seriously. I'm not gonna tell you to go touch grass because I hate Big Lawn™️, but I will tell you to go touch the bark of a tree. Put your hand in a stream and feel the rushing water. Lay in a prairie and watch the grass wave in the wind. Listen to the birds sing. And then ask yourself: "are the cheap thrills worth it?" "Is the convenience worth it?"
Watercolor portrait of Nerdanel. I seem to have forgotten that my blue paint refuses to cooperate, so I foolishly tried using it for her dress.
Also, it kinda looks like she's flexing?? And I didn't realize until I was almost done and started feeling intimidated cus she's literally MOGGING ME
(Excuse the poor camera quality my phone actually hates me.)
Small watercolor portrait I made of Maedhros (and by small, I mean the page is literally 3x4.5in) I'm trying to force myself to not be a perfectionist with my art.
Tired of the infantalization of the Hobbits. They can be full grown men and people will be like "aw look at my baby".
It's lowkey frustrating.
If you genuinely think that Frodo could have rode the eagles to Mordor, I think that you didn't interact with the work enough (and you're probably annoying tbh). I know it's kind of an exhausted question/joke in the fandom, but it's so demeaning to everything that LotR is.
The eagles aren't a taxi service.
They would have 1000% been seen by Sauron or his spies and been shot down.
The hobbits were the best choice, because of their stealth. They're small and difficult to spot.
It would have just made for a bad story. The whole point is that the fellowship--and specifically Frodo--didn't HAVE TO suffer, but they did anyway.
It seems that my-- apparently controversial-- opinion that incest is bad and gross isn't that widely accepted in the Silmarillion Fandom. The amount of fics I've seen where people are shipping characters that are first cousins is honestly nauseating.
I'm not trying to yuck anybodies yum, but yall nasty.
I understand that there's not that large of a shipping pool, considering many of the characters are related, but goddamn there are like a million elves in Tolkien's works. I don't care if you have to ship characters who have never even interacted in Canon. Please please please, no more incest fics!
I need to see more people talking about the 1977 The Hobbit animated film. Imo it's the most accurate portrayal of the book and it's such a comfort movie for me.
Being a college student is actually the worst because what do you mean I have to go to class, then go to work, do homework and then go to bed. There's like no room in my schedule for my millionth rewatch of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
My somewhat controversial opinion is that I absolutely despise Rings of power. Now, I know that a lot of people argue that it is bringing more people to Tolkien's works, but is it really? To me, it feels like nostalgia bait for pre-existing fans. I'll admit, I took the bait too. I saw that they had released a show that was about LotR and I got excited, but the more I watched it the more I realized how un-Tolkien it is. And for taking his name, I would expect that they would keep some sort of semblance to the fantasy that he imbued into his world.
Besides being un-Tolkien, it has a great many other flaws as well.
It's terribly unimaginative
It wants to be Game of Thrones SO bad
its predictable
The characters are terribly mis-characterized
Despite trying to be diverse, it almost did the opposite?
It neglects, or even completely retells existing stories for the sake of their own narratives.
It feels like poorly written Fanfiction (no hate to fanfiction, I literally write lotr fics)
it was made by Amazon
Tolkien would have hated Amazon
Amazon why did you do this to me
Please Amazon stop retconning my favorite franchise
Actually, Please, Amazon just stop.
You literally put a billion dollars into this, when you could have stopped global warming
Where tf is Celeborn??
(I'll probably drop more RoP hate posts eventually)
This old, abandoned copy of the silmarillion was my first introduction to Tolkien's works.
My great-uncle found it in an abandoned house in 2019 and gave it to my grandma. My grandma later, being uninterested with Tolkien, gave it to me because it was no secret that I was interested in fantasy.
I spent many hours reading it over and over in Ye Olde Covid Times and, with it, watched The Lord of the Rings trilogy many times over. I was enamored with the world that Tolkien created (and still am today). I have since bought second-hand copies of all of Tolkien's works about his legendarium. (Yes I do see the irony of me reading the Silmarillion before the Lord of tha Rings)
I have such a deep emotional connection to this book. I can't even begin to express just how much the gift of a book can change someone's life.
So I am sick and I am in bed just chilling and I just woke up from dreaming. I dreamt that Benedict Cumberbatch Smaug found himself an Indian apothecary. And was all like I’m gonna take it over it I like what they sell. And I’m thinking opioids? Well they aren’t an apothecary they are a candy store like honey dukes in Harry Potter or those old Timey soda shop/ general stores/ pharmacies. So now I just have this picture in my head of Smaug with a horde of candy every color of the rainbow Scrooge McDucking it and he has the biggest silliest grin on his face. I’ll be honest this would make a pretty good crack one shot fanfiction. I guess If anyone writes it tag me please.
Bilbo smells like sweet pipe weed grown in his family garden for generations and apple tarts heavy with cinnamon and brown sugar--like home
Thorin smells like coal fire--he works in forges all the time and the smell just never can get out of his clothes or hair
Fili smells like lavender and thyme once they're no longer on the run--he takes pride in keeping himself clean and takes comfort in the herbal scents
Kili smells like pine and sprucewood--more elf than dwarf, he's always in the forests, exploring and climbing and getting sap all over himself
Balin smells like paper and gentle, pleasant tobacco smoke--a librarian and aide to the bone (or nose!)
Dwalin smells like rock--sharp iron, axe blades and whetstones
Bofur smells like linen-scented cotton and soft wood--he's a toymaker before he's a miner
(No Bifur sorry)
Bombur just somehow always smells like cake, vanilla to be exact--it's a rich but deep scent and it doesn't leave even if he's been on the road for months
Nori smells like sharp grease and oil--no valid reason tbh
Dori smells like cherry blossoms and white wine --no one knows how he manages that
Ori smells like paper too--but you can also smell how much chalk and charcoal dust he ends up with at the end of a long day of sketching
Óin smells like a sharp, pungent but not unpleasant mixture of several different types of herbs and poultices--and the polished leather bag he carries them in
Glóin is happily married and off limits for these types of fics but I'll tell you anyway--he smells like peat moss and a bit of bergamot
Elrond smells like candle wax, sage, and dust--not unpleasant dust, just the kind that is drawn to things ancient and worth dusting off
Lindir smells like water that runs over smooth beds of rocks, coupled with a light bit of lily
Thranduil smells like a king ("a proper one," he would probably sneer)--like rich, dark wood and brandy and the sweet smell of pastries that indicate decadence, but not so much to be gaudy
Legolas smells like undergrowth and his own special musk (he's always moving and doing) masked by a sort of bourbon-scented special cologne--you could describe it as charred oak and syruped cherries
Everyone I need some help! So you know how in stories people always describe their love interests smell, like fresh linen and strawberries or smoke, clove and oranges, well I want to hear what smell you would associate with Fili and Kili? (And the rest of the company or that matter) would they smell sharp like a citrus? Soft like lavender? What?
I want to see what different people think and how they interpret the characters!
Reblog and tell me what you think they and any others in the hobbit (dwarf, hobbit and elf alike) would smell like!
Ps: (Instead of me writing elvish since I need to find a translator, just using • to mark where the elvish words are supposed to be) •
Lotr/ Hobbit X Black reader Part 2
“Ah, Lindir.” Gandalf spoke to Lindir with a small smile with mirth.
•”We heard you had crossed into the Valley.”• Lindir spoke as he descended the steps with his hands behind his back as he mostly focused his attention on Gandalf.
Gandalf walked over to him halfway close to face to face. “I must speak with Lord Elrond.” He asked him with a hint of seriousness in his voice before he heard another voice as another pair of footsteps descended the stairs. He looked up to who the voice belonged to as he listened.
“My Lord Elrond is not here.” You spoke as you descended the stairs with your words carrying along with the wind that blew through your hair some before standing alongside Lindir as you nodded towards Gandalf as a greeting. “Not here? Where is he?” Gandalf asked as he looked towards you and Lindir giving you a small smile which you returned.
The Dwarves looked towards you and Lindir weary as they looked to him before a few glances towards you, some looked curious while a few looked amazed or surprised.
Thorin looked weary yet curious as to what or who you were, especially since you lived with the elves of Rivendell, in his eyes the enemy. Dealing shared the same thought but even he couldn’t deny your beauty was something.
Kili, Fili were however looking no towards you curious yet in awe. You looked very different from the women they would see along their journey’s with their uncle. Others had fair skin, and long straight hair but you….you looked the opposite and they couldn’t help but admired your sun kissed skin that looks to hold the many gems of the earth, your hair that was curly and thick but seemed to defy gravity, you very own eyes and features could pull them deeper in, as the one ring did to its wearers.
Nori was giving you an intrigued yet optimistic look as his mouth was slightly agape at your looks. Balin closed the youngin’s mouth as he looked toward you respectfully and with some intrigue as you were a rarity among the people in Rivendell.
Bombur and Bifur were giving you sweet intrigued looks with a small smile. They looked alert as the others were but you didn’t appear to be an elf, but if you were, then you were very much otherworldly to them since your presence was like any other unmatched as well as your beauty.
Bilbo had to move around a little to try and catch a glimpse of you but was blocked slightly by the Dwarves. Before he could get the opportunity to catch a glimpse of you, You all heard the elven war party horn as the Dwarves turned towards the sound looking on guard as the war party rode in circling around them….

Hi there! I just saw you were taking requests and I’m wondering if you could write a fic about Gandalf and a Maiar companion who also was heavily influenced by Nienna and volunteered to cross the sea to Middle Earth with him to thwart Sauron and give Gandalf moral support?
Um.. hi 😳 yeah
First of all, I love this 💕💖💗💕 so thank you for requesting it!!! 😩
I've been wanting to write for Gandalf for a while, but haven't known what to write about :0 so this helps a lot!
Second of all, I am now passionate about writing this and nothing will stop me from making it a series >:)) lmao
I'mma try to load it up with as much lore as i can and make it hecka detailed lmao, so hopefully I can do your prompt justice 😔🙏
If y'all have any additions you want or have any other requests don't be shy! I'd love to hear them :)
Love y'all! Stay safe 🤳💕

I KNOW RIGHT???? he's so amazing in books comparatively
you get it ^^^^^
forever mad that legolas in pj's trilogies was watered down to basic stereotypical mysterious stoic slightly confused brooding blonde elf instead of the whimsical quippy silly guy we see in the books who jokes about grabbing the sun from the sky to warm his mortal friends and screams when he sees a balrog :/
that is like the second most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my whole life
ever get so bored-
The Three Hunters ©️ Ruth Brown 2025
I “redesigned” the trio after rereading and rewatching the trilogy and was inspired to mesh a bit of their movie forms, book descriptions, and my own flair on their designs. I think it turned out pretty fun!
I love when Legolas adds some leather pauldrons to his fit at the battle of Helm’s Deep so I incorporated that silhouette into this new design, while leaning a bit more into a woodsy “fey” idea.
Aragorn is largely similar to the movies but physically resembles how I imagined his book descriptions, a tall, dark, and strong man akin to how most Gondorians are described, especially Boromir.
I wanted to embellish Gimli a bit more to call back to his origins from the Lonely Mountain after its reclamation and the abundance of wealth that would have been dispersed through the Hobbit’s company of dwarves and their families. I love his weapons in the movies though so the sort of cut out style is only a bit altered (and more poorly executed) in my design.
Gandalf: So I’ve developed an elaborate plan to save middle earth from darkness
Elrond: does it-
Gandalf: it involves hobbits again yeah
idk if this is a wip tbh (also im thinking about some tyrian purple)

(quick fixed on something on the ear and a stroke of hair its actually bothering me so much but i can only use mouse rn so no painting lmao) (love how we get all sorts of slightly different versions now)
“I wish it need not have happened in my time.”
