Transphobia - Blog Posts

This idiot.

So this might be a bit long but this needs to be told (td:lr down below). So first I'm nonbinary and prefer they/them pronouns but I was born female, and is pretty obvious, this class is one of my larger ones (around forty student) and I'm sitting next to this large group of rather obnoxious boys (I'm calling them how they act) I'm listening in on their conversation as I work because they where talking to a friend of mine he was goofing around and was sitting near by, one of them shouted "hey, girl!" I was the only 'female' nearby so I turned, he asked me some stupid question I answered them told them 'and sorry but I'm not a girl' they started laughing and one said 'what are you then a boy?' 'uh, no I'm neither' I replied another said 'okay, let's see your not a girl?' And thinking I was getting to them I replied 'right.' 'and your not a boy?' 'correct I'm nonbin-' 'then I guess we'll call you an IT' 'yeah like one of those 'trans' people' and then my disgust was palpable I was already in trouble for fighting in school but at that moment I was willing to ignore this, then the bell rung after some nasty words from both sides, then they complained to the teacher before leaving and I got a in-school suspension for fighting.

(Td:lr argued with some transphobic idiots and got in trouble)

sometimes i see cis people say "trans people will understand if you misgender them at first. i call my nephew 'her' all the time and he knows i don't mean it" no he doesnt. he probably never hangs out with you for more than ten minutes because that's how long you can last in a conversation before making him feel like shit. also he thinks you're, best case scenario, stupid for not being able to figure it out, or worst case scenario, uncaring about him and his needs. he doesn't like spending time with you. you're deluding yourself into thinking you're far kinder than you are. you're weird man.

Tumblr is still actively endorsing transphobia on this website. Reblog the fuck out of this.

Tumblr got back to me about a report for once... Just to tell me that the blatant transphobia I reported "does not violate community guidelines."

These are the posts which Tumblr staff decided should be kept on the platform, with screenshots.

Also, I apologize in advance for censoring the usernames of the transphobes in the screenshots. Tumblr does absolutely nothing to protect its trans users, so I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up getting in trouble instead, just for including their usernames. I will mention, however, that every transphobe had transphobic dogwhistles in their usernames and/or bio. Transphobes are not difficult to spot. Staff are just apathetic at best, and actively transphobic at worst.

Exhibit A: A post in which someone repeatedly and explicitly misgenders trans women, fearmongers about "trans ideology," uses transphobic dogwhistles, and denies the existence of transmisogyny. This isn't even the full post; it was an incredibly long transphobic tangent. The comments were full of transphobes as well. None of them were banned. Tumblr staff think this is okay.

A screenshot of a transphobic post. The post says:

Hot Take #5

I understand radfems' insistence on emphasizing female suffering when it comes to talking about trans ideology. It IS important to talk about, because by trying to act like sex is something inconsequential, it ignores the very real suffering many people have faced on the basis of their sex.

BUT even if sex-based oppression didn't exist, trans women would still not be women. Even if adult human females weren't oppressed, trans women would still not be adult human females. It's just a fact.

I feel the need to bring this up because I often see TW responding to radfems being like "well trans women are catcalled and stalked by men sometimes". Like that sucks, but they still aren't women. But also, the thing about it is that when men do that kind of stuff to trans women, it is frequently toward trans women that pass. In these cases, I think it's safe to say that the perpetrator either thought they were a cis woman (with a vagina and all that stuff) or they can tell the TW is a biological male and it's motivated by homophobia. What people call "transmisogyny" is really just homophobia 99% of the time.

Exhibit B: A post in which someone delights in the idea of a trans person hurting themselves by "ripping at their surgery scars," with additional ableist undertones. Not a hypothetical trans person either; a real individual trans person. She was not banned.

A screenshot of a transphobic post. The post begins with an ask from a transgender person, which says "I'm taking so many hormones and getting so many surgeries I hope you're angwy ^_^"

The transphobe responded, "hmu when you get alzheimer's and forget you're trans and start ripping at the surgery scars :3 teehee"

Exhibit C: A post in which a self-proclaimed TERF refers to consensual gender affirming surgeries as "forced surgeries" and frames trans people as "Nazis and fascists" just for trying to become comfortable in our own bodies. She did this in direct response to trans people celebrating their own surgeries. She was not banned.

A screenshot of a post from a TERF, who reblogged a post from a trans person.

In the original post, an anonymous user sent an ask to a fellow trans person, saying "i hope these transphobes fuck off and also *gets top surgery*"

The trans person they sent the ask to said "YAY anon are you getting top surgery ???"

The TERF reblogged, saying "Transgender humour about forced surgeries: Not fascism or nazism. Normal humans want children to wait before accessing surgery and hormones: Literal nazis and fascists."

She included the tags #anon, #radical feminism, #feminism #radblr, #transgender, #radfem, #radical, #radical feminist safe, #terf, #terfblr, and #terfism.

Exhibit D: A post in which someone says "transgenderism is erasing women" and blames the existence of misgendering and degendering on trans people, as if we aren't also hurt by those things frequently. She also said that trans women are "not women" in comments on her own post. She was not banned.

A screenshot of a post from a transphobe. She starts the post with a screenshot from someone else on Reddit. The Redditor is a cisgender woman in her 40s, and she was ranting about her experience being misgendered and degendered due to her androgyny. Note that this started when she was a child and was called "it," which recently changed into her being called "they" instead. She says that she is supportive of trans people, but also feels like "they" has become a subtle way to misgender people who are gender nonconforming and don't use they/them pronouns. This is something transgender people also frequently point out.

The transphobe who shared the screenshot of the Reddit post said, "[People say] 'Transgenderism isn't hurting anyone' [but] it is. It's is erasing women."

Exhibit E: A post in which someone engages in a blatant form of Holocaust denial, by saying trans transgender and queer people "were not targeted" (while simultaneously casting doubt on the validity of those identities themselves by putting them in scare quotes). Trans persecution and book burnings are a well documented aspect of the Holocaust. This post was also reblogged by other transphobes. None of them were banned.

A screenshot of a post from a transphobe. The post says, "A gentle reminder for those trying to rewrite history, lot's of that going around on social media lately, but the Nazi's did NOT target 'Transgender' or 'Queer' people. They specifically targeted homosexuals point blank period. Heinz Heger has a phenomenal book about it."

Below the text is the cover of Heinz Heger's book, "The Men With The Pink Triangle."

@staff care to explain why you think these posts are okay? Would you like to tell us how and why these "don't violate community guidelines"? Did you learn nothing from the lawsuit that happened because of transphobia among staff? After everything that has happened, why is there still nothing being done about the rampant transphobia on this website?

Just curious.

Also, in case I get banned or this post gets deleted, here's an archived version of my post. Keep it tucked away somewhere.

J.K Rowling’s blatant transphobia doesn’t accomplish anything but the spread of false information and predjudices. The Harry Potter franchise deserves better, frankly.

Note To Society #23

If you claim racism, misogyny, misandrism, transphobia, and homophobia no longer exist, than you are part of the problem. These groups are still extremely oppressed and discriminated against, and if you attempt to brush aside their experiences by stating that this isn’t going on, than you are not helping at all. This sort of oppression exists nearly everywhere, and saying it doesn’t is just plain ignorant. Please respect people’s experiences, and educate yourself on what’s really happening in your world at the moment, because I guarantee, after reading a few news articles, you will find yourself with a lot more knowledge than you started out with.

trans men/mascs are NOT the enemy of trans women/fems transmisogyny is

trans women/fems are NOT the enemy of trans men/mascs transandrophobia is

ascribing bigotry to an entire demographic is what is causing this divide in the community

everyone needs to start understanding how to separate the demographic from the bigotry because otherwise you are going to be extremely susceptible to radicalization

anyone is capable of being transmisogynistic, even trans women/fems

anyone is capable of being transandrophobic, even trans men/mascs

and people are not inherently [insert bad thing here] based only on their identity

people have invented so many different ways of rephrasing "don't transition" to sound plausibly progressive enough to bystanders that they'll think trans people are over-dramatic for reacting negatively to it.

medical transition is permanent so you should really consider it thoroughly and put off trying it unless you know for sure. yes, just keep second guessing yourself. 6 months, 3 years, 20 years...

you might not like how you look. other people might not like how you look. you might not look cis. don't you want to be desirable? do you want to risk feeling worse and more insecure? you look so good now! we think you're so hot right now, and you wouldn't want to change your body and make it not hot to us, right?

you are so valid if you don't transition. you don't need to transition. no one needs to transition. it's just cosmetic, it's just aesthetic, it's all optional and means nothing at all. (no, of course this is unrelated to arguments used for insurance not covering transition, or doctors denying care.)

why do you even want to transition? are you trying to look cis? are you trying to adhere to beauty standards? are you doing this to look hot? that's regressive and outdated and assimilationist. (if you want us to take your politics seriously, you shouldn't transition)

it's a waste of resources/privileged/bourgeois to transition. it's kind of morally suspect that you would transition and still ask for help ever in your life. why should we support someone who's transitioning if they're obviously not oppressed anyway.

DIY HRT is too dangerous. you could hurt your body. you could get arrested. your life will probably end if you take HRT. if you can't access HRT legally, you just shouldn't take it. not for transphobic reasons!! just for your own sake <3

like when will it end

My very last comic for The Nib! End of an era! Transcription below the cut. instagram / patreon / portfolio / etsy / my book / redbubble

The first event I went to with GENDER QUEER was in NYC in 2019 at the Javits Center.

So many of the people who came to my signing were librarians, and so many of them said the same thing: "I know exactly who I want to give this to!" Maia: "Thank you for helping readers find my book!" While working on the book, I was genuinely unsure if anyone outside of my family and close friends would read it. But the early support of librarians and two American Library Association awards helped sell two print runs in first year.

Since then, GENDER QUEER been published in 8 languages, with more on the way: Spanish, Czech, Polish, French, Italian, Norwegian, Portugese and Dutch.

It has also been the most banned book in the United States for the past two years. The American Library Association has tracked an astronomical increase in book challenges over the past few years. Most of these challenges are to books with diverse characters and LGBTQ themes. These challenges are coming unevenly across the US, in a pattern that mirrors the legislative attacks on LGBTQ people. The Brooklyn Public Library offered free eCards to anyone in the US aged 13-21, in an effort to make banned books more available to young readers. A teacher in Norman, Oklahoma gave her students the QR code for the free eCard and lost her job. Summer Boismeir is now working for the Brooklyn Public Library. Hoopla and Libby/Overdrive, apps used to access digital library books, are now banned in Mississippi to anyone under 18. Some libraries won’t allow anyone under 18 to get any kind of library card without parental permission. When librarians in Jamestown, Michigan refused to remove GENDER QUEER and several other books, the citizens of the town voted down the library’s funding in the fall 2022 election. Without funding, the library is due to close in mid-2024. My first event since covid hit was the American Library Association conference in June 2022 in Washington, DC. Once again, the librarians in my signing line all had similar stories for me: “Your book was challenged in our district" "It was returned to the shelf!" "It was removed from the shelf..." "It was moved to the adult section."

Over and over I said: "Thank you. Thank you for working so hard to keep my book in your library. I’m sorry you had to defend it, but thank you for trying, even if it didn't work." We are at a crossroads of freedom of speech and censorship. The future of libraries, both publicly funded and in schools, are at stake. This is massively impacting the daily lives of librarians, teachers, students, booksellers, and authors around the country. In May 2023, I read an article from the Washington Post analyzing nearly 1000 of the book challenges from the 2021-2022 school year. I was literally on route to a festival to talk about book bans when I read a startling statistic. 60% of the 1000 book challenges were submitted by just 11 people. One man alone was responsible for 92 challenges. These 11 people seem to have made submitting copy-cat book challenges their full-time hobby and their opinions are having an outsized ripple effect across the nation. WE NEED TO MAKE THE VOICES SUPPORTING DIVERSE BOOKS AND OPPOSING BOOK BANS EVEN LOUDER. If you are able too, show up for your library and school board meetings when book challenges are debated. Send supportive comments and emails about the Pride book display and Drag Queen story hours. If you see a display you like– for Banned Book Week, AAPI Month, Black History Month, Disability Awareness Month, Jewish holidays, Trans Day of Remembrance– compliment a librarian! Make sure they feel the love stronger than the hate <3

I hate @/davekat-sucks. Like, they're all open to their oppinions and good for them or whatever when it comes to that.

But they're trying to put social rules and laws on a fictional world that go off of completely different rules.

When it comes to the incest jokes and pedophile stuff, I can see why they're upset. I usually don't mind that kinda stuff but the creators of hs:bc kinda shoved it in there in a weird way and it felt icky.

But like every post feels like a weird circle jerk between them and the anons in their ask box.

They say "roxy is a pedophile, because Caliope is emotionally stunted." And everyone in their asks acts like was they say is scripture. (I am slightly overexagerating but you get my point)

Caliope and Roxy aren't even dating. They don't even have feeling for eachother. Calliope quite litterally can't, and in Homestuck Roxy learned about that and was okay with it. Calliope isn't even a child btw. Her cheeks aren't filled in because Caliborn never died. That doesn't mean she's a child emotionally or whatever. She grew up just like Roxy and the others did. The ring making it so she doesn't age does make sense but I don't think it can really be used to say Roxy is a pedophile, seeing they don't like eachother like that.

June did say that she emotionally cheated on him, but he was locked in his house for God knows how long without talking to either of them. He doesn't know shit about what's going on between them.

As for June being a pedophile,,,, I can't defend that one. I dunno why the authors made that decision,,,, bleh.

I don't even understand why davekat-sucks even cares that much anyways, since they've made posts about ships that are incestuous or pedophilic several times!!!

I attempted to explain june being trans in one post cause I saw one of their anons asking.

They reblogged and claimed that both Vriska and Dadbert groomed June into being certain genders???

That is actual transphobic rhetoric. You can't groom a person into being a certain gender. That's not how that even works???

June's dad was being supportive of his kid!!! How would he even know his kid was trans if his kid wasn't even aware herself???? Like it happens all the time. My dad never hesitated to supporting me being feminine, and when I came out, he was in full support of me being more masculine!!!

And vriska, while yes, does have a habit of pushing people to do things before their ready, she can't force a guy into being transgender. No one can!! As a light player, she tends to understand or realize things about people before even they know it themselves. That doesn't mean what she sees in people is just what she wants out of them, it just means she's impatient and tries to get it out of them as soon as possible. And btw. Vriska didn't even say anything about her being a girl?? She put a bunch of Os in John. (I didn't know when I originally reblogged their post, so I did just look it up rq)

I Hate @/davekat-sucks. Like, They're All Open To Their Oppinions And Good For Them Or Whatever When

Had to look it up to find someone more competent in explaining june being trans, so if you're interested here ya go. It doesnt go into the canonicity of her being trans or the in-story evidence unfortunately i think its still interesting to see where it comes from.

Ps. I got really pissed having to read through their stuff so to get myself to feel better I did classpect them. Keep in mind, I am absolutely biased against them, and I am only going off of their posts. I think they're a Bard of Mind. ••)b if you're looking for information on a bard of mind I recommend looking at Dahni's take and a collection of classpect's take on It.

“men’s bodies aren’t policed to the extent women’s bodies are” i hate to tell u this bestie but there are some men whose bodies are policed even more than some women’s. and i’m actually not just talking abt trans men, bc may i remind u that black men’s bodies are quite literally policed by actual police from an extremely young age, and too often that policing lands them in prison just for existing or just straight up kills them.

I’ve been going back and forth on posting anything rebloggable about Eden Knight, because simply posting something feels like…such a non-action. But it’s worse to say nothing at all, and the people who loved her clearly want her story to be known. So I’ll try.

A Saudi trans woman named Eden Knight died by suicide after her parents hired two American “fixers” and a Saudi lawyer to traffic her back to Saudi Arabia and forcibly detransition her. Her loved ones have put together a document about this tragedy in hopes that something can be done:

docs.google.com
Eden Abduction Details

I feel like the cultural piece of this hasn’t get discussed, and i understand why; I’ve seen plenty of utterly sickening commentary from people who can’t be normal about the idea of a trans Saudi, but I feel I’m in a position to break the silence around this, as being a queer Arab myself, the nuances aren’t lost on me. So I’ll try that too:

Arab culture is patriarchal (like most cultures are), communal, and honor-based, which contributes to many Arab parents wholeheartedly believing that they own their children and that they need to control them to prevent any “dishonorable” behavior, even at the cost of death. This is not unique to Arab culture, and I’m really simplifying here, but this is why honor killings happen, and I think it’s remiss to not name the honor-based violence at play in what happened to Eden. She threatened her family’s honor by not adhering to the gendered role coercively assigned to her, and so they inflicted the conditions that led to her death upon her. And I can guarantee that, had her parents not had the money to hire some of their fellow monsters to destroy their daughter, they’d have recruited extended family to stalk her or found another way instead. Honor culture is self-policing.

It’s also remiss to not name the other forces that killed Eden: transmisogyny in both the United States and Saudi Arabia—the latter obviously being worse than the former, but fleeing to the former DID NOT PROTECT HER, so USAmericans can hold off from being smug about her being Saudi, thanks—and her migrant status. The State, capital-S, and its borders assisted Eden’s parents in this.

We need support networks that can actually help trans people with complex cultural/legal situations like this. We need support networks to prevent honor-based violence, which primarily impacts women and LGBT people of any gender. “Just cut off your parents” isn’t helpful when you’ve been raised to internalize this level of guilt and shame, and it especially isn’t helpful when your parents are willing to find you and abduct you to protect their image. There needs to be SOMETHING to prevent tragedies as horrific as this. I can’t say I have the answers. But there needs to be some understanding of how far this honor shit can go, how it can cross borders, and how even people who have found community outside their abusive families can still be very vulnerable to it.

I’m so sorry, Eden. You deserved the world. Rest in peace.

"terfs infantalise trans men while painting trans women as predatory" is such an annoying take because, yes part of it is true. but terfs have also called trans men "the final solution for women", they do also paint us as predatory! and they do infantilise young trans girls in really gross ways! they just rarely mention what they think of older trans men, most of their public-facing rhetoric around us centers on young people.

the more accurate statement then is "terfs tend to infantilise younger trans people while painting older trans people as predatory", with the following caveats: - being neurodivergent in any way lands you in the "younger" category in their minds because they're ableist fucks. - anecdotally i've found this is not necessarily reflective of age when it comes to public figures specifically, and more of how recent their coming out as trans was. - they will gladly break this to score points in public debates, though if you're in a position to get it out of them you'll find their actual thinking aligns with it. this is a well-known strategy called lying.

and i feel it's worth noting both because the predatory "tropes" around trans men are slightly different from those around trans women, and because the infantilisation of trans girls is something i rarely see talked about while being just as gross as anything else here.

i really think the saying there's no ethical consumption under capitalism has become a phrase to excuse giving money to avoidable awful companies rather than a reality check. like if you're poor there's a good chance you have no choice but to shop from brands with less than ideal practices solely bc you can't afford to buy everything ethically sourced (not to mention in certain areas it's next to impossible to find those goods in general) but when it comes to chikfila that is an optional place to eat that is incredibly mask off with anti lgbt policies....... not quite the clapback to just say there's no ethical consumption under capitalism. like YEAH but you could just rip off their sauce recipe from online 🥴

Trans Adults Officially Being Detransitioned In Missouri: "I'm Scared And Don't Know What To Do"
erininthemorn.substack.com
Transgender adults are officially being pulled off of their medication in Missouri and forced to detransition. A new ban targeting trans car

Trans Missourians on HRT, call your doctor as soon as possible and get a 90-day supply or as much as they’ll give you.

Lots of us are going to have to relocate or go through costly and/or illegal channels to acquire HRT now.

I invite trans people in MO to add their payment links this post. We desperately need support. We need people to give a shit right now. This is life-or-death for many of us.

Every time there's something about "straight passing" couples being not experiencing homophobia then bi people get pushed further away from their rightful community. Also this idea that trans men can perfectly pass and gain all privelages of a cis man.

People really need to take a good look at how much emphasis they place on the supposed "privelages" that someone who appears more cis and straight or male has over other LGBT people.

"Passing" in any way is entirely conditional and can be taken away the instant something slips or a stranger scrutinizes you enough. Walking on eggshells and hoping you aren't found out and risk facing violence is not this great privelage you may think it is.

Remember the trans panic defense? That realizing a sexual partner is trans is used as a defense to murder them? So they "passed" until they didn't, and it actually led to them being killed. Passing did not protect them.

Also there's this idea that any couple that appears to be man + woman will never get clocked as queer. That they can never be queer. That bisexuals don't have the same level of queerness as a lesbian woman or a gay man. But they do. They can be flamboyant, butch, femme, anything that any other queer person can be.

I'd Pretend To Be Shocked, But We All Knew This Investigation Was Political Theater Meant To Only Grab

I'd pretend to be shocked, but we all knew this investigation was political theater meant to only grab headlines and reinforce the narrative to people who don't pay much attention to the news that Trans People Bad.

Like, the damage is already done. I find little comfort in knowing what I think most of us on the pro-trans already knew: medical professionals are extremely careful and follow the already very strict guidelines when providing care for the extremely small population of transgender children.

Because the narrative has been fully dictated by the anti-trans side, the idea that our medical care is some how experimental (when it's been around for almost a century in some cases), dangerous, or will cause massive regret (when trans affirming care has lower regret rates than knee and hip surgery).

remember kids the answer to the question "why do trans people always target WOMEN & WOMENS things?" is "because its what cis people care about"

if you want to demonize a group, make them Scary (oft masculinized) Predators who are Coming For Innocent Women (objects to be protected). the "trans issue" crops up where cis people MAKE it an issue.

"men's healthcare" is an exclusionary term for healthcare needed by a lot of people. "father" should not be our only term for people who can impregnate others. but its so much easier to rally the troops to protect the weak, innocent, defenseless property, so thats where the money is.

oh also: this applies to stuff like "why are there no BI GAYS?" which is based in the same logic. there ARE and have always been bisexual gay men, and there continue to be. the only reason you have only heard about bi lesbians is because gay men's spaces just are not as defensive about Invaders To The Identity, even if that prejudice still exists on some level sometimes. this is such an annoying thing to hear because its said like some intelligent statement and its just biased information

transandrophobia is why i dont feel safe in trans spaces anymore. transandrophobia is why i dont feel like i have a community. transandrophobia is why i feel unsafe at work. transandrophobia is why i dont have a birth family at all. transandrophobia is how trans men and transmascs die.

people shutting down our discussions, shoving us out, ignoring us crying out for solidarity. thats what gets us killed.

i have no snappy one liner for the end. im just tired, scared, and heartbroken.

In my experience a lot of the shit trans men get from within the queer community comes down to ignoring half of our identity in favor of the other half

Either were men and therefore are basically the same as cis men

Or were trans so they'll use gender neutral/ inclusive language while still reducing us to our sex assigned at birth

calling what is happening to trans people in the south an attempt at genocide: correct and ok. it's going to get worse if we don't fight back now

comparing it to the holocaust: not ok and also i'm fucking blocking you.

no genocide is the same. not every genocide mirrors the holocaust. using the deaths of jews, lgbt people, disabled people, and poc during the holocaust as your "gotcha" card every time our rights are in danger today proves you know nothing about the history you're talking about.
