An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works

In a universe where twelve year old Vegas meets fifteen year old Pete and they spend a few hours together. Those few hours make a lasting impact on Vegas.

It changes everything.

Here we go, my first VP fic.

All done and dusted.

I had the idea of what if they met as kids and Pete’s first loyalty is to Vegas. So this little fic came out of it.

Might expand on it later. Not sure. But I hope you enjoy.

Kinneporsche x Mo Dao Zu Shi crossover au. Wei Wuxian as Porsche

Lan Zhan as kinn

Zichen as tankhun. They're both so dramatic and sneaky. Like I feel like if xichen was a little less reserved. There both captains of thr ship

Suzhui as Kim. Lil cute badass nerds

Jin ling or jingyi as Chay. It's honestly hard to choose they both have so much potential.

Qiren as Korn

Now heres the tough choice

Nie huaisang as pete

Jiang cheng as Vegas

Or

Nie mengjue as pete

Meng Yao as Vegas

Remember with that second one they can't also be Arm and the other body guard which i think would fit them to

The plots should remain the same with little changes to add some mdzs flavor to it.

Journal Entry_VEGASPETE

“Someday, judgment will come to you,” Pete hisses.

The drag of chains from the movement of his shackled hands clang loudly in the quiet of the room. And he, the devil himself, only smiled sweetly at this. Dark eyes crinkled in delight as his lips stretched into a beautiful smile with white fangs dangerously glinting behind.

“And no hell will ever accept you,” he finishes, venom coating his words as his eyes glare at the other in the dim lights of the room.

To this, the evil incarnate only laughs. Puffs of breath sensually intertwine with his low-timbred voice. A beautiful laugh, really. If only it wasn’t from someone so despicable as Vegas.

He tilts his head and approaches Pete’s kneeling form, hands raised above and feet bound on its spot. Quickly, the hand roughly clutched his jaw and tilted it, gazing up at the delighted expression plastered on Vegas’ face.

He is amused, Pete nervously concluded.

Shifting, he tries to move away. The chains rattling loudly at his subtle movement. But as he tries to withdraw, the grip tightened. The insides of his cheeks pushing to his teeth, premolars painfully touching the fragile buccal. He gulps, breath harshly leaving parted lips. Eyes diverting anywhere but of the figure casting him in its shadows.

He shivers, like prey, and he, the apex predator, pounces.

Bending down at him with his vice grip, allowing no room for escape, he whispers, “Good.” Vegas’ face draws closer to his, round eyes unable to meet the sharp gaze. The pounding of Pete’s heart is loud in his ears as he forcefully moves away, but the hold, the fucking grip, on him doesn’t allow it.

“Khun Veg—”

“I only want you to accept me.”

Pete sucks a harsh breath. Wide eyes focused onto Vegas while he shivers at the words.

This cannot be real, his mind echoes. But with the half-lidded gaze so focused on him, he felt untethered in his panic.

Oh my god, this shit cannot be happening.

Wide eyes rove anywhere but Vegas, trying to find a way out of this nightmare. Because if this is reality, Pete believes death to be the better option.

“Don’t worry, Pete.”

His exhales warm Pete’s jaw as it crept slowly towards his neck. Painful grip, loosening to gently caress his cheek, but despite of its softness, he can feel it dominating his senses. And Pete wills himself to move away.

“I won’t hurt you.”

Still frozen, he can feel his chest rapidly expanding and deflating. His eyes darting from one corner of the room to the other as his mind scream for his mobility.

“Unless, you want me to.”

He moves.

Honestly VegasPete ship would never sail if Kinn had just paid more attention to the situation.

I'm not talking about him forgetting. It's when Vegas lies to him via text that Pete is going to see his grandmother who fell & probably got hurt .

Kinn you had the brains to ask her about his whereabouts but not her health?!🤦‍♀️ If only Kinn had even vaguely asked about how she fell he'd have discovered the lie.

And no grandma wouldn't have lied & agreed she's hurt. Because Vegas has told Pete had been given a vacation from the major family & not something he got from cooking up this excuse.

Seriously Kinn, if only you had remembered to be a little more courteous & paid attention to detail🤧🤦‍♀️

A fanfic of Vegas' villian origin story in KinnPorsche

Imagine Vegas being allowed to go on a field trip to a beach in a village when 13. It's got to do with his father's mission but he's grateful for the chance to use the school bus for once. Like other kids. Cut to Vegas sitting alone waiting for his father in the evening. His classmates have left for home.

He grabs fistfuls of sand & watches the grains slip from his hand while realizing the salt water on his chin is not the sea spray. Suddenly, a hand on his shoulder causes him to flinch. A cracked male voice enquires, "Are you lost?". He shakes his head sideways. On turning around he can't tear his gaze away from the sculpted features of a boy in oversized clothes & messy hair.

"Do you want a friend?" The boy asks again, flashing his dimples & eye smiles. Vegas nods in agreement. The boy sits beside him. "I'm Pete. Even I'm alone today. All my friends are away for vacation. Grandma will be back tomorrow morn. What's your name?" Vegas hesitantly responds, "Vienna. I'm just waiting for my father."

Vegas reads him a story and Pete listens to it with fascination. Pete picks & shows him various seashells but Vegas is only looking at his hands until he spots his father at a distance. Afraid of being spotted together he tells him to hide from his scary father & scurries away.

Since that day Vegas turns to that chest tingling memory for warmth & comfort. He even tries to find that boy but doesn't find any useful leads. Plus the nostalgia of first love also brings regret with it. The fact he didn't even say goodbye. To the boy who deserved to know his real first name at the least. So he tries to distract himself. By plotting against the major family to please his father (spoiler alert : he always fails to)

On a particular bad day the last thing he'd want to do was meeting the major family. But the minor family's heir didn't have the luxury to rest.

This time a new bodyguard greets them with a tight smile. Vegas catches himself thinking "He's cute" as the new recruit escorts them to the meeting room before taking a spot beside Tankhun and half of Vegas' attention.

As they're exiting the room Vegas picks up the new recruit's fallen ID card. He shakes his head in disbelief on seeing a familiar name. There's no way on Earth they could find the one only he knew & never found, right?

His face loses colour when he flips the case. It's like seeing the mirror of Erised. It was a face only he knew from seven years ago. With the same eye smile that had made him feel weak in the knees for the first & last time. There was an old woman in the picture too.

The major family somehow always seemed to have everything he wanted & never got. Loving parents, wealth, power, status, self esteem & respect. Life couldn't be more unfair. One boy, whose memory was only his, his first love, his sole comfort memory that didn't include his deceased mother. Somehow even this was bestowed upon the major family. The one he yearned for was now serving his rivals. They didn't even worship him like he did for 7 long years.

Vegas sought revenge. If he couldn't have his love then he'd never let his rival Kinn be in love either. So he pocketed the card & set out to trap Tawan.

Possible explaination for Vegas visiting a temple

It is a known fact that Vegas wears a million masks & has lost himself in the process. These could be one of the two reasons he visits a temple despite being a ruthless criminal.

Guilt : As his human side surfaces in ep 11, it now seems believeable that Vegas indeed feels a tinge of guilt for any of these reasons :

Taking away innocent lives

Manipulating people to fall in love with him only to kill them later (they could be the only form of affectionate touch he gets except from Macau)

Having to raise Macau, the only family he loves & trusts, in a toxic environment

Vegas probably wakes up every morning only to fulfil his duties as a son & heir without any self driven motivation. (He doesn't even seem to know himself as Vegas without the Theerapanyakul) He is probably clinging to this mafia life just because there is no alternative. Also there's a need to shield Macau from their toxic father.

Perhaps he goes gives offerings to the temple to beg forgiveness for the sins he's obliged to commit. He could've felt guilty for failing to protect Macau or constantly disappointing his father by always being the second best after Kinn. He might also believe he is paying for the sins of his past lives. Or fear the sins of this life shall carry on to the next.

Which leads me the second possible reason - Lack of purpose.

People commonly turn to spirituality to find answers for questions like - Who am I? What is the purpose of life? Questions which Vegas definitely seems inclined to find answers for. Because he feels unwanted. Unloved. Unworthy. And then in ep 7, he watches Pete.

Possible Explaination For Vegas Visiting A Temple

Pete, who happens to be passing by, stops & bows when he notices a shrine. Earlier in the ep we see Pete asking Big to stop trashing a rival gang member afraid it would lead to his death. This shows Pete's compassionate side despite being in a job that demands you to be violent & merciless. (Yes they needed him to live to make him talk but he neither seemed to have bled nor fainted. We only see Big hitting him only a couple of times prior) Vegas must have considered if faith in God is what keeps a person like Pete from crumbling. So decides to give God a chance.

Possible Explaination For Vegas Visiting A Temple

But someone makes him realize he wants something from life. Which for once, doesn't have to do with his family. Pete.

He might have tried talking to deal with the awkwardness of being caught while spying. But this sentence means a lot to Vegas who has probably never experienced platonic love. No one had ever asked him about his likes or dislikes without intending to use it against him. And now all he wants is someone to whom he can ask about interests & be asked back . So he answers.

Possible Explaination For Vegas Visiting A Temple

However, the peace may not be from just hearing the sermon, but from hearing it alongside Pete. Vegas has never been treated like a commoner before. The absence of hierarchy in this conversation oddly liberates him. And for the first time, he admits to having desires; in his own way.

Possible Explaination For Vegas Visiting A Temple

By next life he could have meant "In a life where we are not us". He wished Pete was his friend in a world where he could afford to have one. A life where he was not his father's son or the minor family's heir. An alternative universe where Pete was not one of his rival's fiercely loyal head bodyguard. Where Vegas didn't have to constantly switch personalities & Pete was still his non-judgemental self.

For the first time Vegas could sense a craving for a human relationship that didn't have to be bound by money, blood or blackmail. And he readily did a ritual if it meant something to his newfound desire.

But the type of love he craves can be found in any relationship. Considering his upbringing, he seems to believe blood or romantic relationships are utilitarian. Which only leaves friendships. A luxury he never had as a mafia prince.

Now to ruin the mood we all know what happens next😂 Pete is fucking attractive so Vegas couldn't hold back & needed an excuse to touch him I guess 🤣🤣

However it is worth noting that humans have multiple layers to their personalities. Moreover humans do tend to look for what they lack in their partners. So it's only normal for Vegas to find that comforting friend in Pete.

PS forgive me if I'm wrong this is my first time posting my own theory/interpretation 😛😅😭

Is Vegas flirting with Pete?

Episode 2 - When Vegas is first introduced, he smiles at Porsche (& Pete)

Episode 4 - Vegas puts his hand on Pete's shoulder and squeezes while smiling before sitting down

Episode 5 - When Vegas goes to pick up Porsche at the club he asks if *they* are leaving, then says to Pete that he has something to show Porsche Episode 6 - Vegas caresses Pete's hand when he grabs the box and asks him if he would like to share the condoms

Episode 7 - Vegas puts his hand on Pete's neck to guide him out of the hallway after looking him up and down and up at the ceiling

[Vegas always steals little glances at Pete throughout the episode, and Pete also stands on the right hand side of Vegas when he kills Wang and Don]

Character Message - Only Vegas touches Pete in the tub

Pete never reciprocates the touches or acknowledges the sexual innuendos as being sexual throughout the episodes.

So the question remains - What will happen to Vegas when Pete does finally touch him back?

Both the car scene and hallway scene feature the usual reds and greens, but also BLUE, Pete's color and the color of lust.

Is Vegas Flirting With Pete?

Pete wears dark blue in both scenes as the object of Vegas's lust.

Is Vegas Flirting With Pete?
Is Vegas Flirting With Pete?

If this is how Vegas stands and looks at Porsche, his target ordered by his father before he kisses him (in his predator leopard print)

Is Vegas Flirting With Pete?

compared to how he stands and looks at Pete after asking if he is "looking for something?" (*cough* like his bed *cough*) while wearing his Rich Daddy velvet green robe...

Is Vegas Flirting With Pete?

Have we missed the obvious and Vegas is genuinely already attracted to Pete?

We need to talk about Pete...

and his crisis in episode 9.

Background

Pete has been shown to have some type of religious awareness

We Need To Talk About Pete...

He is also shown as a parallel to La Virgen in episode 7 as he watches over the party as she does. *I'm Catholic, but I'm not even going to touch on this because that is a whole 'nother post.

We Need To Talk About Pete...

Questioning Faith

However, in episode 9, when he enters the Buddhist temple, he questions Vegas because the monk was speaking about the first percept - Do not kill.

We Need To Talk About Pete...

Pete doesn't understand how Vegas, who just killed Don and Wang, enjoys listening to this sermon on not killing, while Vegas says that it helps him relax.

We Need To Talk About Pete...

Pete isn't feeling peaceful or calm but can't figure out why.

Questioning Himself

When Vegas suggests making merits together (because they have both killed together and need to atone), Pete is hesitant, but as always, obedient.

Remember, Pete does not see good or bad, so having to atone for wrongdoing without a punishment could be why he looks so confused. Or it could be that Vegas shows concern for his soul beyond this life.

Up until then, the music is light and ethereal. However, the SECOND Pete agrees to make merits together, the music stops. There is no music at all. Even when Vegas puts his hand on Pete's back, there is no music. You know when the music does start?

We Need To Talk About Pete...

The moment Pete has a reaction to the touch is when the music begins again, but it's not the same music as before.

Bonn Fields' "Never Given a Chance"

This is the song ("Never Given a Chance"...uummmm), and it's suspenseful. I'm not a music person, so I can only describe it as being in a minor key with lots of dissonance (lack of harmony between notes/tension/unsuitable elements). And you know where we hear that dissonance ?

We Need To Talk About Pete...

After Pete moves away from the touch, he does the same movement he did in the first image while looking at the shrine - he wipes his face and then his hair, but the comfort he felt before in the first image is gone. Dissonance

We Need To Talk About Pete...

The next time we hear dissonance is the first time he looks at Vegas after the touch when Vegas asks him to take the water. He is conflicted. He is feeling something different while Vegas is back to the norm of being a superior bossing him around. Pete responds "Yes, sir" but...

We Need To Talk About Pete...

When he gets up to leave, we hear lower notes being added as the camera lingers on Vegas.

We Need To Talk About Pete...

The last time we hear dissonance is after Pete throws out the water and is trying to reset himself. This time, it's high pitched symbolizing Pete's internal conflict is reaching its climax. He is trying to focus on his assigned duty but is still thinking about the touch.

When the music stops

We Need To Talk About Pete...

The SECOND Pete goes back in and sees Vegas is gone, the music stops. It is silent until he picks up the note, and then a quick burst of ominous music begins when he finishes the note about doing it again, so they can see each other in the next life.

So what?!

Pete is not at harmony with himself here (dissonance). He can't find the smiles to joke this away like he normally does. Throughout this whole sequence, he doesn't even smile once. Previous to this, every interaction he has had with Vegas, he smiles through it, but the smiles seem to last less with each interaction. Here, he is experiencing raw feelings that he cannot brush aside, and Vegas touching his back in such a spiritual space in broad daylight while the monk speaks about not killing and his brother is sleeping right behind them has thrown him off. He isn't reacting to the touch, but the way the touch makes him feel regardless of the external elements. Pete is not uncomfortable with the touch and that's why he is conflicted. The music demonstrates this by starting when Pete reacts to the touch rather than beginning when Vegas touches him and ends when Vegas is gone. Even if Vegas is playing with his prey [I already wrote about truly believing he's attracted to Pete], Pete just realized he is attracted to the way Vegas makes him feel (his authentic self) which puts him in conflict with his duties, his loyalties, and his façade. He failed his mission because he was distracted and knows Vegas is playing with him, which makes that realization of attraction even more difficult.

And you know what Pete likes when people fail? Punishment. He says he's going in that house to clear Porsche's name, which is most likely true, but he is also looking for something.

I loved the Vegas and Pete scene in the temple because it truly shows how both Vegas and Pete function but also how the power structure between them truly comes into play.

Vegas and Pete both know that the other person is not there innocently and not coming into this conversation innocently. Vegas knows Pete is there to spy on him and Pete knows that Vegas is always up to no good, always wearing a fake heart on his sleeve.

And the entire scene is both of them not talking about that. Not touching on that. But nudging. Little pokes. Almost entirely from Pete but each response from Vegas is the same nudge in return.

They both know that they are not who they seem. They are both wearing masks for the world. They are both not who they are for the sake of the people around them.

And they see it in each other.

But the power structure, Vegas being able to order Pete around, Pete being unable to say no, Pete getting dragged along with them, Vegas showing him his own calmness in the face of the world...

Pete knows this isn't Vegas. And Vegas knows that too.

They both know that the other person knows but both of them are pretending they don't.

They both act like they're wearing their hearts of their sleeves while their true emotions lies behind a mask and their hearts are hidden. Vegas chained his up and Pete's is protected with a smile.

(no book spoilers)
