Hermione peeked through the peep hole beside the entrance. Malfoy was right there, waiting for her. She heard the Fat Lady flirt with him and saw him squirm. He wore dark blue slacks and loafers, a white button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, the first two buttons at the neck left open, and a thin blue jumper casually thrown over his broad shoulders, the sleeves of which were dangling over his muscular chest.

The dark mark had been covered by another tattoo, a phoenix, of all things. That was somehow fitting and unexpected at the same time, Hermione thought. He was, objectively speaking, beautiful. If he were a painting, she would probably get Stendhal Syndrome just by looking at him. But he wasn’t a painting. He was a person. A person with whom she shared a heavy baggage. Summoning her inner Gryffindor, she took a deep breath and stepped outside.

He smiled when he saw her. Not a smirk or a sneer but a bright, wide smile, with teeth that would make her parents squeak with glee.

“Hermione.” He paused. “Is it alright if I call you Hermione? I thought, since we are going on a date, perhaps we should be on a first name basis. But if you’re uncomfortable with that, I can still call you Granger.” His smile faltered for a brief moment.

Hermione breathed in through her nose and held her breath for a few seconds, then, as she exhaled, she said “Hello, Draco. First names are fine.” She smiled at him in return. His eyes sparkled in the candle light as he offered her his arm. Hermione placed her hand at the crook of his elbow and they quietly descended the stairs, heading towards the entrance hall.

Of Drought And Downpour - Chapter 6

https://archiveofourown.org/works/57564421/chapters/146469688

The sky was clear, blue and endless, not a single cloud in sight. A warm breeze made the treetops sway and carried the smell of flowers, resin and pine needles. The sun shone bright, warming her skin as she walked towards the Quidditch pitch. Hogwarts was showing her its sweetest, most welcoming side on this glorious summer day.

“Ms Granger!” She heard a deep voice calling her. She turned around and saw Firenze, quietly approaching her at a languid pace.

“Professor Firenze, how are you?”

“Mercury crosses the Dragon’s path again. Venus is aligned, at last.” The centaur said.

“Ah, yes, absolutely. Have a good day, Professor.” And here she was, thinking he would say something useful, for once.

“Have a good day, Ms Granger. Perfect weather for Quidditch.” He smiled looking at the cloudless sky.

Hermione rolled her eyes as she continued on her path. She climbed the many stairs to the top of the stands, Daphne and Astoria were already sitting at the far back and waved at her, smiling. She walked towards them, shooting a glance behind her, towards the pitch. Ginny had just joined Harry and Ron and they were tossing the quaffle back and forth as they hovered on their brooms, not far from where Hermione was standing.

Of Drought and Downpour - Chapter five

https://archiveofourown.org/works/57564421/chapters/148422619

“Hermione Granger! Why are you dressed like a sad, grey, bureaucrat? Have I taught you nothing?” Cried out Pansy walking into Hermione’s office at the Ministry.

“Because I am a sad, grey, bureaucrat.” She deadpanned. “Pansy Parkinson! We thought we’d lost you forever!” Hermione stood up from her desk to greet her friend with a tight hug.

“Ally was getting desperate. Orders have kept coming and, with Christmas approaching, I just couldn’t leave her alone. I just portkeyed in, I thought I’d stop by.” Pansy shrugged.

“Oh. Does that mean you’re just back temporarily?” Hermione frowned slightly.

“I’m still undecided. Lei Ailun is wonderful, but I miss you girls and my shop. I told him I didn’t know if I would go back. He didn’t push me either way.”

“Did you want him, to push you?”

“I don’t know. Maybe?” She sat down on one of the armchairs, elegantly crossing her legs at the ankles. “It would have been nice if he had tried to convince me to stay with him. But then, maybe, I would have found it overbearing. Oh well, I’ll just deal with the shop for now and see how things go.”

“I’m happy to see you, either way.”

“You, Ms Granger, are coming over to the shop the moment you clock off. I need to fix that mess.” She vaguely gestured to Hermione before she stood up and walked towards the door. “I’ll be waiting for you at quarter past five. I’ll contact the others and we can all meet afterwards. Does Greg still keep a table for us?”

“He actually put a brass plaque on our table. It says ‘Permanently reserved for The Troublesome Seven and friends’.” Hermione said with a laugh.

“That’s good, because we’ll need it.” And with that, she spun on her heels and marched towards the lifts.

Of Drought and Downpour - Chapter four

https://archiveofourown.org/works/57564421/chapters/148002913

“Daph! You’re back!” Screeched Ginny as she sat down at their table at the Green Viper. “Tell us everything!”

“Well, my work there was done. Fredrik was absolutely wonderful, I honestly thought of staying, but I don’t think he was The One. I considered a few things and I decided to come back. My life is here. I missed my troublesome friends! And I see we have a new member!”

“We missed you too!” replied the others.

Luna introduced Willow, who had since become a well integrated member of the group. Daphne listened to her in awe as she told a few of her adventures on the hellmouth.

“I dated a werewolf, before I became a witch. My best friend dated two vampires. Not at the same time, obviously.” She told her very attentive audience.

“We had a werewolf teacher, he was the best.” Said Hermione. “But vampires? Aren’t they soulless beings?”

“Angel, the first one, was all handsome and broody and had been cursed with a soul because he was a real baddie. He was a puppy with Buffy though, still broody but with googly eyes. That is until he lost his soul because they had sex.” She shrugged “With Spike, we called him captain peroxide because of his bleached platinum hair, it was a perfect enemies to lovers story. They hated each other, then, when Buffy came back from the dead, they began fucking like rabbits and he went out and got himself a soul just to be worthy of her.” She sighed. “Oh, and my other best friend dated a one-thousand-year-old vengeance demon who had come to Sunnydale to kill him.”

“And I though Hogwarts was a dangerous place.” Said Daphne in shock. The others chuckled.

Of Drought and Downpour - Chapter 3 - Harry Payer crossover with Buffy the Vampire Slayer inspired by the song 'It's Raining Men'

archiveofourown.org
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works

The Troublesome Seven kept living their life. They went to work, met for coffee or drinks, went out clubbing. They had no idea when the rain would start but they were confident that when it did, they would be ready.

Daphne was the first to see the effects of the spell. She was at work, kneeling in front of a low cabinet looking for a jar of dittany leaves. She would normally use her wand and accio whatever it was she needed but for some reason she didn’t really know, she had decided to go about it the muggle way. A tall, handsome, blond-haired wizard with striking blue eyes, didn’t see her and stumbled. He was able to catch himself and not crush her but they ended up sprawled on the floor. Daphne was left breathless for a moment as she lost herself in his eyes.

“I’m sorry Miss. I didn’t see you.” He offered his hand to help her up. He had a hint of foreign accent but she couldn’t quite place it.

“Oh, it’s nothing really. I don’t even know why I didn’t use my wand. I’m Daphne Greengrass, Head Potioneer, how can I help you?” She tried to sound her normal confident self but she could hear her voice shaking slightly.

“I’m Fredrik Nilsen. Lovely to meet you, Miss Greengrass. I have an appointment with Mr Boots.” He held her hand longer than would be considered proper but she had no intention of letting go. Mr Boots’ booming voice woke them from their reverie.

“Mr Nilsen! I see you’ve met the woman responsible for some of our best advancements with contraceptive potions! Ms Greengrass, join Mr Nilsen and me in my office. I have some grand plans!”
