— venti sits beside your bed, lyre in hand. his fingers pluck a simple lullaby as you grip the edge of his shirt, trying to forget about the nightmare. he’s still alive, breathing with you, and when at last you drift off to sleep, the gentle melody fades away and he presses a soft kiss on your forehead. “sleep well, my love”

— diluc closes the tavern with a flower tucked behind his ear and an old record playing. “dance with me!” you say, and take his hands, dragging him to the center of the room. he blushes when you put his hand on your waist, but he soon falls into the steps as you slow dance in the candlelight, foreheads pressed together

— xiao spends his afternoon trying to catch crystalflies with his hands. he stands on his tiptoes, peering over a low tree branch, and you giggle as he clamps his hands around empty air. “what are you doing?” you ask. leaves cling to his hair, so you run your fingers through his dark locks and watch them fall to the ground. “trying to catch one for you” he grumbles, “because they’re pretty, like you are”

— zhongli leaves you letters sealed with wax slid under the door, left by your bed, or hidden in odd places that only the two of you would look, because he’s always thinking of you. three lines or five paragraphs laced with love to remind you that when it all seems like too much he is there, forever

— childe brings you to the boardwalk to watch the sun slip below the horizon and paint the sky orange and gold. as the last rays of light fade, he wraps an arm around you and pulls you close. “a lot of people get engaged at sunset” he says, slipping a ring on your finger. “do you wanna try it?”

— kazuha lays with his head in your lap, twirling blades of grass between his fingers. “what would i do without you?” he says, gazing up at you. it catches you off guard and your flustered face makes him laugh, high and clear, and he sits up to kiss your lips and feel your smile against his. it has always been the most beautiful thing to him

summary: for the first time, kazuha considers staying

it’s hot. even the breeze that blows is warm; which makes the tension in the air between you and the inazuma samurai. you both sit in the grass wordlessly, deep in thought. your eyes wander to his hands, covered in bandages. his hands were always covered in small cuts from his sword — you had become his personal doctor, patching up the small cuts.

you gently hold his hand in yours, cleaning a cut on his index finger. you look up to meet his gaze and notice a small grin on his face.

“what?” you ask, returning your eyes back to his hand. “it seems you find something about this funny.”

“no,” he chuckles. “not… funny, per se. it’s just… we’ve gotten to know each other quite well even though we only see one another when i’m in here.”

“mmm,” you hum, securing the bandage on his finger. “so your recklessness is the source of our friendship?”

“i guess,” he says, the grin not fading.

you pause for a moment, his hand in yours. you look at the small scars on his hands. many of them were probably from him missing his own sheath, but you could tell some of them had stories.

“honestly, i do try to be more careful but… it doesn’t seem to work.” he says, pulling his hand away. his eyes shift away from you.

now, you’d do anything to see that grin one more time. you hated yourself for taking that dumb grin for granted.

“is this where we part ways?” he asks softly.

you can’t bring yourself to look at him. “i think so.”

he stands up, wiping his hands on his pants before outstretching his hand towards you. you grab it, and finally look at him. his words were so sad and left your heart feeling so heavy, yet the soft look on his face stayed unchanged.

“i hate that our last moments together feel so sad… it feels quite tragic, no?” he holds onto your hand, squeezing it.

“it’s hard to make departing feel happy.” you whisper.

he takes you into his arms, holding you tighter than ever before. “i’m sorry things ended up this way.”

after a few moments, he lets you go. he looks at you like he’s taking in every detail; a mental picture that he can look at whenever he yearns to feel your warmth. and then he finally starts to walk away.

however, it’s only a few steps. he stops in his tracks, and for a brief moment you think he’ll turn back around for one final embrace. but he keeps his back to you. “tell me to stay.” he says.

“what?”

“tell me to stay, and i’ll stay.”

you want him to stay. every fiber of your being is telling you to say the word. let him know that you want him here. but it’s all too selfish. he had chosen to leave even after you met him. it was a choice you had to respect. he had things to do, places to see, and you unfortunately couldn’t join him. so you take a deep breath and close your eyes, and hope that he’ll be gone when you open them.

and he is.
