So, low-key, I know there’s zero textual proof of this and it changes virtually nothing. But I imagine Harry’s eyes to glow different colors when he’s casting different spells. I have no defense or reasons beyond it’s cool.

Morgan Headcanons Round 2

I hope this helps @cyr-frey.

1. Morgan’s favorite animal is the wolf. I have no real justification for this one it kind of appeared recently.

2. He is a veritable font of random knowledge. Want to know how to handle a stagecoach? The melting point of lead? Which evocations Luccio has banned in the barracks? Ask Morgan he probably has the answer.

3. He is half the reason she has a list of banned evocations to begin with and no he won’t explain why they are banned.

4. He is very much an urban predator. Find a troublesome warlock in the middle of 5 million people no problem. However ask him to find anything at all even in a small forest and he will come back 6 hours later covered in mud, sticks in his hair and being chased by a skunk.

5. He rarely ever takes any of the obscene amounts of vacation time he has banked but when he does it is usually because Luccio has threatened him.

6. Most of the wardens make for terrible patients. Morgan however tends to be fairly calm he understands that he is a liability if he is injured and is willing to obey the healers wholeheartedly.

Sorry that this is short and nonsensical today. I just got off of a double shift at work and my brain is not cooperating.

Morgan Headcanon:

Morgan hates mornings. He's perfectly capable of getting up early, and he does most of the time. But the days when he can sleep in are his favourite.

Headcanon:

Carlos refers to Morgan as "Uncle Morgan" on a regular basis. Morgan has given up on trying to get him to stop.

Morgan headcanon:

He has a bunch of crazy stories that are actually true, but hes started telling ridiculous fake ones just to see how insane he can make it before someone doesn't believe him. So far, no one has called him out on this.

Morgan Headcanons

Since the wonderful @cyr-frey has been posting headcanons that have brightened the last week considerably for me I guess I will try my hand at it as well.

1. Morgan knows how to embroider. He isn’t necessarily great at it but he can manage simple patterns well enough. It was one of the things he learned during WW1 as a way to keep himself sane.

2. He was taught to be a blacksmith/farrier by his father before he learned that he was a wizard. He has very little talent for the advanced magical bladesmithing that Luccio does but he is more than capable of fixing a plow or shoeing a horse.

3. I always pictured him as being a particularly bellicose Scot. I have no idea why since there is nothing in the books to suggest this it kind of just stuck its self in my brain.

4. On that note I feel that he speaks quiet a few languages. English, Latin, Italian, German (the language he uses for his spells), Scots Gaelic, Russian, and bits and pieces of a dozen others. Italian he learned insults first because he was a bit of a troublesome apprentice and proper vocabulary and grammar came later.

5. As He has been a bachelor for over a century I feel like he learned to cook and do it well. He is a great cook with a taste for simple filling meals, however he also has recipes for a dozen or so complicated dishes that he uses to bribe his way out of the doghouse with his captain.

6. Luccio has been unsuccessfully trying to set him up with someone ANYONE for decades. She more or less gave up around 1985. Even her patience has its limits

7. Morgan is well aware of her efforts and appreciates her concern in a philosophical way but really wishes she would stop. He is more than capable of finding his own partners thank you.

8. He may be a viscious bastard and snarky as hell to the warden recruits but God help you if you even look at them funny in his presence. He is a terrifying Papa Bear who has no problem guarding the younglings under his command.

9. I feel like the side of his personality that Dresden sees is only a sliver of himself and that around other wardens he is a very different man. A jackass sure but one who is more than willing to joke and laugh with his fellows as they share drinks. He is the one who acts as Luccio’s eyes and ears within the ranks and goes out of his way to keep the wardens running at an individual level while she handles the big problems. (I rewrote this one 5 times and am still not happy with how it reads and am not sure in properly conveys my thoughts but oh well.)

10. Morgan’s favorite hobby is reading although he rarely has time for it. His warden gear always contains a book and it is a common sight on group missions to see him sprawled out on a hotel bed reading anything from philosophy to Sci-fi.

Well that was fun. I hope the fandom enjoys reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. *Scurries back into the shadows from whence she came*

Love Letter to Donald Morgan

This is the character in the Dresden Files that I love beyond reason. Not my favorite, or the best, but the one that I love reading and wish we could have more of.

1) I always love the lawful extreme character (Morgan, Javert, etc.) While these characters are almost always antagonists, the way they hold themselves to these rigid ideals they hold is pretty awesome. And the extreme makes the times we do see them in conflict with their rigid ideals is so fascinating.

2) We know that we’re getting a bias view of Morgan from Harry, and he’s lived through a ton of horrifying scenarios that have shaped his approach to being a warden. At least one of these involves, not just throwing down with a Naagloshii, but being so tactically adept that he manages to TRICK IT INTO BEING NUKED while evading it to escape. There’s a reason he’s a well-respected warden. He’s a badass.

3) Even while hating Dresden and thinking he’ll eventually turn evil in book 1: Morgan immediately rescues him when Dresden is shown to not be the killer and admits officially and publicly the white council (including him) was wrong about Dresden. He’ll hand you a shovel so you can dig your own grave, but he will also go 100% to bat for you if he knows you’re in the clear.

4) Consistency. Wizards, in his opinion, have a lot of power and must be held accountable for their control. When that power’s been abused, that control is suspect and should be tested. Doesn’t mater if you’re 30+ yo antagonistic obnoxious man or an attractive ~20yo (I think) woman actively helping him. He doesn’t believe in playing softball. And while I don’t agree with his philosophy, I respect the hell out of how subtly he implements it and stands by it.

Harry: Hi Morgan. Killed anyone today?

Morgan: The day ain’t over yet…

Morgan: I swear, Dresden, one more wisecrack out of you… Harry: Verbal threat! Threatening! I’m being threatened!
