the concept of waking up and getting out is just as magical no? leaving the little universe inside your head and going on an adventure in the big wide world, but this time you meet real people with their own little universes and leave real lasting impressions on them - even if its the most mundane place or scenario, the fact that its real is magical and fascinating to me in itself

i think the concept of dreaming is so mundanely magical. even when we are asleep our brain comes up with scenarios which we usually cannot control. of course some of them are unpleasant - i’m no stranger to nightmares myself - but there are dreams where i go to other worlds and dreams where i can fly and meet my favourite characters. even the wackier ones are magical in their own way, making us decipher their meaning and leaving a lasting impression on us. i just love how personal dreams are. they come directly from our mind, no one else can see them. it’s our own little universe.

not me reblogging this so i can take my own advice, kind of in a quarantine slump right now and online lesson isn’t the best - yesterday was literally the last day of online school so i’m planning to use the holiday as time to catch up and submit work that i’ve missed. wish me luck!

what do you mean it’s half term break?

bruh, do your work to *the best of your ability* and then enjoy your break, we don’t like slackers who do everything last minute (remember to take breaks inbetween short periods of working)

i know i talked about buying the tweed jacket in the end but i didn’t have enough money so i bought a puma hoodie instead lmao

broke academia things

curling up in the corner of a public library and pretending you live there

taking pictures of the ruins of your local cathedral because you need those aesthetic pictures for your blog

staring longingly at the tweed jacket you’ll never afford in the shop window

wearing the same red turtleneck (the only one you happen to own) in every outfit you can in a hundred different ways

staring longingly at the tweed jacket in the shop window

impulsively buying the tweed jacket and putting yourself in financial debt for the sake of aesthetic (totally worth it)

I wish everyone would admit that classic literature is inherently difficult to read, and that you shouldn’t feel stupid if you don’t “get it”. Especially the dark academia/ classic lit fandoms and stuff. Like unless you have the vocabulary and pop culture knowledge of an 18th century nobleman, it’s going to be a tough read. It’ll take you longer to read; you’re not stupid if you’ve spent several months on a single book! And you don’t have to enjoy everything. It’s okay if you got bored after one chapter of Wuthering Heights, and couldn’t be bothered to read the rest. It’s okay if you want to read your favourite kids book for the 10th time instead. You’re not stupid. No piece of literature is inherently better, more “important”, more “meaningful”, or more “intellectual” than another. First and foremost, read what brings you joy.

romantic things i yearn for

- dancing in the rain, no music, just heavy heavy rain - being surprised with glow in the dark stars stuck on the ceiling in pitch black while leaning on one another - learning to ice/roller skate with your partner - blanket forts and pjs, watching whatever cheesy movies you used to love as a kid - bike rides at night, preferably when its sweater weather season - nerf gun wars while diving behind furniture ( or level that up to paintballing as a team ) - aquariums ( standing together in dark spots surrounded by the dim glow of the tanks is the most romantic thing ) - last but not least, romantic and simplistic, just talking while sitting down and facing eachother for hours and hours (this wasn’t a dark academic post like normal but oh well lol - if you liked this post you’ll also like the post i did titled da dates noone will do w/ me - check that out!) - Amimi

key studying tips

- revision guides, revision guides REVISION GUIDES! did i mention revision guides? trust me on this, i was failing science recently and my brother gave me a bunch of his old revision guides since he’s off to uni and they help sooo much. ask your teachers about material in your subjects, flag it down in your revision books (i do this with those lil neon sticky notes) and study, study, study (reblogged a post or two on learning material for those who may need it - indirect recommendation from stalking my friend @mohkomx) revise, rinse and repeat (make sure to takes breaks inbetween!)  - going hand in hand with revision guides, studying from books, it reduces screentime and is just better for your eyes mind and health in general (plus i find i remember way more from books then from reading from my laptop?) - music in the background, best to use plain stuff like lofi since i tend to find stuff with lyrics distracting (i listen to lofi livestreams on youtube) or plain piano - here’s my favourite list of songs!. if you’re from a noisy household like me, invest a pair of noise blocking headphones but don’t blast music, keep it at a medium-low sound level -last but not least, notes are key, minimalist, highlighter-freak, whatever you are make sure you take proper notes and keep them neat. imagine you’re taking them for someone who’s life rests on your very nice note-taking shoulders. reading back on them really does help. til next time! Isn’t it funny how humanity seems to have a knack for turning anything into art? Clothes became fashion, buildings became architecture, plants became gardens, the list goes on.

The way humans romaniticize and find beauty in everything is adorable.

Ay, My Heart Is Not Beating Ay 심장이 뛰지 않는대 When I Listen To Music Anymore 더는 음악을

Ay, my heart is not beating Ay 심장이 뛰지 않는대 When I listen to music anymore 더는 음악을 들을 때 Tryna pull up It seems time has stopped 시간이 멈춘 듯해 Oh that would be my first death I been always afraid of If this can't make me cry 이게 나를 더 못 울린다면 If you can’t make my heart tremble more 내 가슴을 더 떨리게 못 한다면 Maybe I'll die once like this 어쩜 이렇게 한 번 죽겠지 아마 But what if that moment's right now, right now Only the sound of a slow heart in my ears, bump bump bump 귓가엔 느린 심장 소리만 bump bump bump Even if I want to escape, jump into that mouth, jump jump jump 벗어날래도 그 입속으로 jump jump jump I can't reach any song 어떤 노래도 와닿지 못해 Screaming a silent sound 소리 없는 소릴 질러 (these lyrics speak to me so much, and the video is so underappreciated, like can we gush about the artistry?) *no pictures or media is mine unless stated otherwise*

a studyblr post (for once lol)

my laptop broke a week and a half ago and my teachers were to say the least *unsympathetic*. i’m really behind on online work (especially, science, french and maths) like i feel motivated, especially since i’ve come across the “eat the frog” method but the minute i sit in front of my work, its as if my hands can’t move and my brain just walks on out me? i’m determined to get back on track through this half term holiday though. wish me luck! til next time Amimi

‘eat The Frog' Method

Hi all, it’s werelivingarts. I just stumbled across this method called ‘eat the frog’, which means you get the most difficult or important task out of your way first. I actually have been using this method for a long time, hope this post gives you a new way of managing your time and productivity! 😜

“If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.” – Mark Twain

tips for year 10

since i’ve finished year ten and am just starting year 11, i thought i’d offer some advice for those of you starting year 10:

1. make your notes as you go along - it’s so much easier to revise effectively when you’ve already made resources, instead of wasting revision time making notes. this also means that you have notes ready when you go into year 11.

2. ask questions - when you have a question, write it down and ask your teacher next lesson. not only does this make sure that you know the content while you’re learning it, it helps you become more involved in your subjects and shows your teacher that you’re willing to take initiative and learn for yourself.

3. use revision resources - i would recommend getting revision guides (e.g. the cgp books) in year 10 and using them to guide your revision throughout the year. if you don’t want to write on the books until year 11 then you can use a separate notebook to answer the questions.

4. REVISE FOR YOUR EXAMS - i cannot emphasise the importance of this enough. if revise and work for exams in year 10 then you’ll have already started learning the content that you’ll need to know in year 11. this means that you don’t have to revise as intensely for year 11 mocks and eventually your acutal gcses.

5. if you regret your options, switch while you can - some schools may not do this, but in my school we have a four week grace period at the start of year 10 where we can try out our option choices and change them if we want to. if you have a few lessons and find out that one of your subjects actually isn’t for you, see what you can do about switching to something you find easier/more fun/more interesting. i find that enjoying a subject will motivate me to work hard at it, so it’s super important to be studying things you enjoy.

6. concentrate in lessons - it may seem that as your gcses are in a year, you don’t need to work hard or concentrate in your lessons, but please don’t be the person who has to learn everything in year 11. it’s likely that you won’t revisit your year 10 topics in depth in year 11, so concentrate and learn them while the teacher is teaching you.

7. seek help if you need it - year 10 can be a pretty stressful time, what with a new course, new teachers, new classes and a bigger workload. if you feel like you need help, be it with academic problems, physical health or mental health, please please please ask for help. there is absolutely no shame in asking someone to help you, and it will honestly make everything easier.

8. enjoy yourself - i know this is a generic thing that everyone says, but enjoying yourself and having fun is really important. join clubs, hang out with friends, make the most of having more privileges within school without the stress of gcse exams. as well as a place of learning, school should also be somewhere you can make lasting friendships, memories and have loads of fun.

i hope that these have helped some of you, and good luck to everyone starting year 10, you’ll smash it! xx

how to learn new content and never forget it

save this for your next academic year and finals, and it’ll save your grades and time.

1. whenever you read a paragraph with new content, close the book/look away and ask yourself: “what have i just learned?” explaining the concept to yourself right away and asking follow-up questions will change the way you retain new material forever.

2. at first, it’ll be daunting, and it’ll be pretty hard to actually bring yourself to do this. trust me, it’ll be worth it - as this is scientifically proven one of the most effective study techniques.

3. to try this out, set yourself a timer for how long you estimate learning a concept might take. now take away 20% from that estimate. you won’t be able to reach this goal with basic highlighting and re-reading techniques - but with active recall, you will.

4. once you’ve understood the concept, use spaced repetition systems like anki flashcards to force yourself to retrieve this information in a set period of time. this way, your brain will always be reminded of this concept before it could possibly forget it.

5. teach it to others as much as you can. as with the old wisdom “see one, do one, teach one”, one of the only guarantees you’ve really gotten something is when you can effectively teach it.

hope these are helpful for you!!

penpals in dark academia

- live in either a big city or a quaint little town in the countryside, there is no in between - sending pressed flowers, newspaper scraps of recent events or blackout poetry on ripped out book pages with letters -hoarding all the small things and letters and keeping them in your satchel to read in the library you work at -waiting in anticipation for the next letter and getting a bit too excited when it arrives
