Crazy how every El Paso episode is reaffirming Eddie’s “you do matter to me” statement. It’s not just words. The writers are now showing us instead of telling us that Eddie does indeed need Buck as much as Buck needs him, that Buck is integral to Eddie’s life and that him moving away doesnt change that fact at all.

And it’s another way they’re contrasting Eddie with Abby. Abby left Buck with vague assurances that she cares about him, that she might come back at some point, but it was all just words. As soon as she left L.A. she left Buck behind too. She closed that chapter of her life and didn’t make any effort to make that known to Buck.

But Eddie puts his money where his mouth is. It’s not just words. Eddie told Buck he matters to him and then he proved it by keeping him in his life, by talking to him all the time and needing him and relying on his support.

Buck has accepted the fact that Eddie is not coming back (even tho we know he is lol) while he clung to the idea of Abby coming back for far too long. But Eddie has not left Buck in any doubt that he loves him. That’s why Buck has been able to stop spiralling. Because he’s secure in the knowledge that distance doesnt change what they are to each other. He knows he will always have Eddie. And Eddie knows he will always have Buck.

i'm trying not to be Mean but also i don't care i don't CAAAAARE anymore like. why is eddie returning to LA solely for buck. why is this the narrative people are going with. WHY EXACTLY is eddiebobby being downplayed as like, nothing more than a professional relationship. as if to eddie losing bobby would be like losing an acquaintance and he's more there for buck than anything else. why is this a thing. that i am seeing. like, eddiebobby has been one of THEEEE 118 relationships. they understand each other. bobby's always been there as a steady hand for eddie. eddie LOVES AND RESPECTS HIM a great deal. he has his OWN feelings about bobby that aren't related to buck’s relationship with bobby. like, why is it EDDIE being there for buck. when it should be them being there for EACH OTHER. all of the 118 btw. because they each have their own relationship with bobby. like, yes buck and bobby have a father-son relationship that is super important. and this is going to KILL buck. and yeah, i do think eddie is very conscious of that. and he WILL be there. but can we stop framing this as if his sole purpose is to be there for buck. he's allowed his own grief too. they all are. THEY'RE A FAMILY!!!!!!

i’ll be happy however buddie goes canon even if it’s not the right way (passionate heat of the moment almost-kiss that gets interrupted and they aren’t able to talk about it it for hours or perhaps even days and then when they finally do it’s a little awkward at first and buck starts apologizing and then eddie kisses him and then they talk about it and confess their feelings but neither of them say the l-word and they decide to start a relationship but keep it on the down low and it’s so hard for them to keep it a secret but they do anyway and they act all cute but weird around each other on shift but everybody chalks it up to typical buck and eddie weirdness and then when they realize it’s for real they decide to sit christopher down and tell him and chris is like we live together. i thought this was already a thing. and then buck and eddie are so happy because at least it’s not a secret from one person they love and they fall so easily into a rhythm of domesticity where they cook together and it’s been a few weeks and they’ve been you know intimate together before a few times but nothing big and one night they’re home alone and it gets heated quickly and they start getting freaky and theyre a little drunk and the next morning eddie wakes up to his phone ringing and he answers it without looking at it and his groggy “hello?” is met with maddie saying “who is this?” and eddie panics and realizes he got bucks phone so he jostles buck awake and hands him the phone and buck is confused and maddie is confused and eddie is hungover and maddie starts interrogating buck because she realizes it was eddie and buck stutters through some random excuses and as he’s trying to make his way through a full sentence eddie just kind of stops and looks at him really fondly and buck sees him and he slowly goes “yeah… we’re together” and maddie understandably starts freaking out but he just says he’ll talk to her later and hangs up the phone and they kiss and then later they’re at work and chimney is looking at them funny and they’re just like. so maddie told you and he’s like. no. what. told me what? no. but they just laugh and say it’s okay for him to tell people and he says “oh thank god” and runs off and they hear hen shout “WHAT?” from upstairs and then bobby calls them into his office and makes them sign paper work and then)… sorry.. i lost my train of thought. what was i talking about? something normal i hope. i am normal

so much more interesting for his character. to ME. to have had eddie in texas for this arc. cause I genuinely do believe there's such a thing as too many character NDEs at once (like while I loved the bridge collapse none of the NDEs meant much to me cause there was just too much to focus on and not enough time to give it the proper emotional punch. eddie's ribs got crushed. did I give a shit. did it do anything for his character. no) but this absence is Everything for his character. because eddies been so focused on losing christopher and getting him back that he's almost convinced himself he can be fine in Texas. and maybe when it was a competition between Chris and Everyone/Anyone else that could be true but he has chris back in his corner now and he has to choose between continuing this lie to himself that he and chris can be happy in texas or he has to come face to face with the fact that this life he built in los angeles could never be a transient moment in his life. not only has he been immeasurably changed by these people he met at the 118 but he is still and forever bound to them and that's Not Nothing. we saw him acknowledge it but at that point he didn't think he had a choice. now he does and he will be confronted with that in the most devastating way and the impact of his absence will be so much more defining and monumental for him than being just another trapped 118 member

in the spirit of being a bitch about this (yeah I’m being a bitch about this try and stop me) I’m gonna say one thing that’s already been said and then I won’t speak on this again but Literally having a main -much more a main like Eddie fucking Diaz- miss this much of a story and this dramatic of a plot should be considered a federal crime like imagine if Buck or Hen or chim weren’t in this episode at all??? It would’ve felt so off??? And for good reason they’re MAIN characters that should be treated as such and yeah sure eddies my favourite SUE ME but this is the godamn objective truth and it’s unfair he’s been missing from two episodes (well more like one and three quarters because Buck cant stop blabbering about his boyfriend like he’s a war widow or smth) like get serious it’s been 8 seasons. Love the devastation though let’s keep it up 🫶🏻

if instead of a big confession Eddie comes back from El Paso and buck lives with him and Chris and eddies suspicions are confirmed as he observes himself and buck. Something he started to suspect as he was leaving and something he pondered while he was away. And so one day when Chris has gone to bed and they’re sitting on the couch watching tv. He has his head on bucks shoulder and he turns into his neck a bit and he kisses him there. And he feels buck freeze and so he pulls back and looks at him. So quiet, the tvs on low. Bucks blinking at him. He looks kind of scared. And Eddie just looks at him. And buck says kind of whisper shouting what what what Eddie what whatare you doing and pulls away from him and Eddie shrugs. He leans his head back against the top of the couch to look up at him where he’s stood just hovering just looking at him. and eddie keeps his voice pretty quiet and gentle and says. Well. I think we’re in love with each other. Buck keeps looking at him like he’s crazy. Eddie says you and me. Buck looks as him like he’s insane. Eddie says we’re in love. Buck looks kind of angry. And then like he’s going to cry. He sits back down. Are you fucking with me? Eddie says obviously not. We’re in love. aren’t we? And buck. Kind of crying now. Eddie puts his hand to his cheek. Buck says Well. I’d hoped so. I had hoped we were.

like i know they gave us two really good eddiesodes before this but. lads. i miss him so bad. i was simply not born to live without eddie diaz. it's just not sustainable for me

obviously obviously i really want buck calling eddie and sobbing down the line as he tells eddie what's happened. i've been a warrior since the moment that bts dropped and i've never wavered. but. but. equally as delicious to me would be eddie calling buck. whether he's seen it on the news or not because i imagine they'd probably be trying to keep this quiet to avoid public panic (?) but he's just calling buck to check in. their usual daily call. except eddie feels like this call is more important to make than usual. he doesn't know why. it's just a feeling in his gut. that he has to call buck no matter what. and he hears exactly one of buck's ragged uneven breaths and says buck's name so softly and buck breaks all over again.
