a little something i put together for the nice folks over at creative dundee for their next pecha kucha night. i'd been wanting to try something like this visually for a little while, & overlapping plants with pencils growing from the ground ended up being the perfect chance to experiment. after working on a giant mural for the couple of days prior to making this, it was super nice to sit down at my desk, draw tiny plants & take advantage of the "undo" button in photoshop whenever anything didn't quite work out.
a black cat has crossed your path, what luck! this little screen-printed chat noir can be found over in my shop.
then.again Sometimes I feel a bit at a loss at what to draw so, last year, I started drawing my Instagram feed in chronological order. After a bit of a hiatus due to being busy with work and moving to another continent (hello, Canada), I've recently picked it up again. It's good to have ready-made references that I can depict in new ways, and things I might usually avoid subject-wise (landscapes! cars! men!) are going to provide an interesting challenge. You can keep up by following along here.
it's been a long time since i did a what i wore today drawing - in fact, the last time i did one was when gemma correll did a call out for images for her what i wore today book, which comes out in march. i was lucky enough to have my drawing selected to featuring within its pages, i'm looking forward to getting my copy in the post.
anyways, this is what i wore yesterday. notable things include a necklace from my best friend & a cardigan that my nannan knitted me for my christmas - there haven't been many days since receiving it that i haven't worn it.
i'm pretty pleased to now have this print in my shop. i created this image last autumn (the message "hang out with some plants" can be found on the prints that will be given out by the project) for advice to sink in slowly, & i've been planning to create a poster of it as a way of offering a piece of larger art for a small cost ever since. finally, it's on sale, costing £5/$7.50. if you've been looking to fill up some space on your walls with a lady wandering through some plants, then today's your lucky day.
a postcard that i sent off to urban graphic last week for their big draw charity postcard auction. as you can see, i played it safe with the topic (a girl! with a plant! woah!) but got out some colouring pencils that i've not used for years, & scribbled with abandon before inking with a brush on top. i also added a little gold to the plant pot, because i just want to add gold to everything lately. gold gold gold. so there's you have it. she ain't nothin' fancy, but i like her. ps. couple more days left of my sale! 15% off until sat 1 june.
a new personal project: natural beauty. a comment on the concept of "natural beauty" being something you have to strive to achieve, rather than simply embracing what you've got. also an opportunity to use illustration as a means of saying something, which i don't do often enough (this is something that's been on my mind a lot lately). you can see the rest of the series & read more about it on my website.
it's been a little while since i've had something new to add to my shop, but i've been busy making some items over the past little while & i'm finally putting them up for sale. over the next week or so i'm going to add one new item every day, starting with one of my favourite things i've created.
this is definitely one for cat fans; a notebook adorned by lots of feline faces. these notebooks feature an original illustration, & are screen-printed & bound by myself. they're pretty therapeutic to make, not to mention the feeling of accomplishment when you have a pile of freshly trimmed books ready to go. they're £7/$11 each; find out a little more about them in the shop.
fresh start! hello, it seems you've found your way over to my new blog. along with a new website layout, i thought i'd try another platform for outpourings. if you wouldn't mind updating your google reader & feeds, that'd be much appreciated.
for any nostalgia trips (just me?), you can see all posts from 2007 to 2011 here.
