Somehow you nailed it
i've never seen good omens but it's all over my tumblr dash so this is what I've gathered can someone please confirm if i've got it right
there's a demon named crowley
there's a biblically inaccurate angel named aziraphale but like it's very sexy when the demon calls him 'angel'
the demon and angel have been married for 6000 years and they still keep looking at each other all sappily
Neil Gaiman is somehow involved, I think he's the writer but also he's on tumblr (uh, @neil-gaiman) and people keep questioning if he's real
is neil gaiman like a fandom inside joke why is everyone asking if he's real
there actors are called michael and david and amazon prime thought they were the same
there is a bookstore and crowley is sad
they kiss and it is very nice and desperate and crowley says we could have been us. i have no context for this. someone is going to heaven i think.
there is a god, i'm not sure if they're good or evil though
the demon wears sunglasses
it's a comedy but for some reason everyone's crying after whatever the last season was, are you guys okay
things are on fire
they are very gay
there was a book and at one point they switch bodies
more fire and crowley screaming
they are called ineffable husbands i dont know what that means
they fight crime or they do crime or they fight crime by doing crime i really cannot remember which
gay
that's how it happened, right? đĽ°
Crowley, clearly angry: I AM IN A BAD MOOD! So NOBODY TALK TO ME!! Aziraphale, pouting: Even me? Crowley, confused: What? No. Obviously, YOU can talk to me. Crowley, angry again: BUT NOBODY ELSE! I MEAN IT! LEAVE ME ALONE! Crowley, softly to Aziraphale: To reiterate, this does not apply to you, Angel.
Only one thing can distract an angel from a yummy slice of cake on a lazy Sunday afternoon...
full version under the cut đđ
there were more than a few folk enjoying the angel cake (lol) on my last drawing, so consider this doodle something to balance the scales (pun intended) đ
I see a lot of empathy for Crowleyâs experience during the final 15 minutes of season 2 and it makes sense that we feel deeply for him. What he is experiencing is very human - acknowledging the depth of his own feelings, plucking up the courage to say something, having it come out all wrong, feeling utterly rejected, and then walking away in a mix of pain and anger. Who among us hasnât been there?
But Aziraphale is experiencing something more complicated, something fewer of us have analogs for. Aziraphale has internally acknowledged his feelings for Crowley for some period of time, probably at least since 1941. Michael Sheen confirms this mental state in a NYCC 2018 interview:
âI decided early on that Aziraphale just loves Crowley. And thatâs difficult for him because they are on opposite sides and he doesnât agree with him on stuff. But it does really help as an actor to go, âMy objective in this scene is to not show you how much I love you and just gaze longingly at you.ââ
Unlike Crowley, Aziraphaleâs struggle isnât acknowledging his feelings. His struggle appears to be two-fold: 1) believing that Crowley could ever love him back and 2) even if Crowley did love him, believing a future for the two of them together could exist within the restrictions of his larger world view.
Angels are, traditionally, beings of love. We see Aziraphale embody this time and again, showing kindness and support to almost everyone he meets, including the amnesiac Gabriel who has treated him abominably in the past. He is attuned to love, remarking on how the area around Tadfield âfeels lovedâ twice in Season 1. As for how Aziraphale personally understands and expresses love, he shows his love to others through verbal affirmation and, to a lesser extent, physical touch. There are many examples of Aziraphale expressing his love for Crowley through positive verbal affirmation, typically by praising him for instances where he has been kind, nice, or good. And on the rare occasions when Aziraphale receives verbal praise, he absolutely interprets it as an expression of love, blossoming with happiness.
But from Aziraphaleâs perspective, it may be unclear if Crowley can feel love in the same way. Can demons love? Did he lose that capability when he fell? Crowley canât feel the aura of love in Tadfield that Aziraphale remarks on, and his reactions to Aziraphaleâs praise are always to shrug it off, tell Aziraphale to âshut up,â or in the most extreme case to physically slam him against a wall and get in his face about it. In this last instance he tells Aziraphale, âIâm a demon, Iâm not nice. I'm never nice. Nice is a four-letter word.â A four-letter word, like love, that is not in Crowleyâs self-defined vocabulary.
Even if Aziraphale believes Crowley is capable of feeling love, he does not always recognize how Crowley expresses it in the moment. Crowley shows his love for Aziraphale through actions, but Aziraphale often misconstrues Crowleyâs motivations. In 1793 when Crowley rescues him from the Bastille, Aziraphale initially assumes Crowley is only there because he is responsible for the Reign of Terror. Similarly, in 1941, Aziraphaleâs reaction to Crowleyâs appearance is to assume heâs just part of the Nazi gang, saying,âI should have known. Of course. These people are working for you!â
Crowley doesnât help matters in this regard because he is constantly muting and undercutting his signals to Aziraphale. Every time Crowley expresses his love for Aziraphale through actions - rescuing him, saving his books, even taking him to lunch - he does so in a nonchalant, dismissive manner, indicating he ascribes little value or importance to the actions he has performed. âI just didnât want to see you embarrassed,â he says when he appears in 1941. And when Aziraphale positively glows with happiness about his books being saved, Crowley tells him to âshut up."On top of these confusing signals, Crowley is almost pathologically incapable of expressing his feelings in the verbal love language that Aziraphale can understand. This is heartbreakingly demonstrated in this scene after the bookshop fire:
Crowley canât even say âI lost you.â Instead he speaks of Aziraphale in the third person while sitting in front of him, saying, âI lost my best friend.â The little hitch on Aziraphaleâs face when he hears this is just devastating. Who is Crowley talking about? The last conversation they had before this scene was when Aziraphale called while Hastur was in Crowleyâs apartment and Crowley said, âNot a good time - got an old friend here.â Aziraphale is left to wonder - is that who Crowley means when he says "best friend?" Crowley is everything to Aziraphale, but what is he to Crowley?
Even when Aziraphale does get flashes of the possibility that Crowley may care for him he immediately runs up against his second mental block - there is no world he can imagine where they could be together. When Crowley first suggests running off together in the bandstand scene in S1E3, Aziraphale collapses under the thought: âFriends? We arenât friends. We are an angel and a demon. We have nothing whatsoever in common. I donât even like you.â
While he is obviously in denial, Aziraphale is also under tremendous stress in this moment and is desperately trying to hold onto some stability by falling back onto his world view and ideology. In this state he backpedals all the way to âI donât even like you.â In his understanding of the way the universe is supposed to work, he and Crowley are hereditary enemies and should not even be friends, much less in love. Aziraphale expresses this core belief throughout the series. What kind of existence could they ever have together in reality?
With this as a background, we can better understand what Aziraphale experiences in the final 15 minutes. Even before the Metatron enters the scene, Aziraphale begins to have his fundamental beliefs challenged which puts him off his footing. The revelation that Gabriel and Beelzebub are in love is deeply impactful. When Beelzebub says âI just found something that mattered more to me than choosing sidesâ and takes Gabrielâs hand, Aziraphale immediately reaches out to make contact with Crowley, a look of incredulity on his face. Here is proof that demons can feel love and that an angel and a demon can carve out a space together. The road may be difficult, but it is not impossible.
Before Aziraphale can digest this revelation the stakes are ratcheted up: Michael threatens to erase Aziraphale from the Book of Life due to his part in hiding Gabriel. The future that Aziraphale has just barely glimpsed is already under siege. It is at this point that The Metatron enters, offering Aziraphale not just survival and protection, but a version of everything he has ever wanted.
If Crowley is reinstated as an angel, Aziraphale will no longer have to wonder whether Crowley is capable of feeling love. And if they are both angels, there will be no conflict inherent in having a life together. In one fell swoop, the Metatron entices Aziraphale with a future where there are no remaining blockers to an eternal, loving existence with Crowley. It will be âlike the old times, only even nicerâ because they now have millennia of their shared history to build on together. Of course this logic is horribly flawed and does not take into account at all what Crowley wants, but in the moment it must feel like an enormous gift to Aziraphale.
Unfortunately, not only is Crowleyâs reaction to this âincredibly good newsâ not what Aziraphale expects, the conversation quickly takes a baffling turn for him. Crowley shuts down the talk about returning to heaven and attempts to say what he wants to say. Sadly he once again utterly fails to speak in a way that Aziraphale can understand.
The audience knows what Crowley is trying to say because we have the context of his earlier conversation with Maggie and Nina. But Aziraphale lacks that and thus canât understand where this is coming from or what it means. Rather than expressing his feelings as Beelzebub and Gabriel did, Crowley recites facts: weâve known each other a long time, weâve been on this planet a long time, I could always rely on you, you could always rely on me. He canât even say the word âcoupleâ when he describes them, referring to them more as colleagues with words like âteamâ and âgroup.â And the one time he does try to express his feelings and desires he is physically unable to get out the words: âAnd I would like to spendâ.â He then retreats into his old plea to turn away from heaven and hell and run off together. Nowhere in Crowleyâs confession does Aziraphale hear âI love youâ or even âI want to be with you.â What he hears instead is what heâs heard multiple times before - Crowley wants to abandon both heaven and hell and default to just the two of them. From Aziraphaleâs perspective this will not solve anything for them. They will still be an angel and a demon, at some level fundamentally separated by their very natures.
Having failed in his speech, Crowley then does two things in rapid succession that must be excruciatingly painful for Aziraphale. First, he does the opposite of verbal affirmation by calling Aziraphale an idiot. We have seen Aziraphale become physically radiant in the rare instances where Crowley has praised him, so a direct insult like this must feel poisonous. Then Crowley makes a last desperate attempt to communicate through Aziraphaleâs other love language - physical touch - by initiating the kiss. But without context or understanding of what is behind it, Aziraphale can initially only experience it as forceful, angry, and shocking. With more time to parse it I think Aziraphale will come to understand Crowleyâs meaning, but in the moment it must feel manipulative and borderline cruel.
In a very compressed time frame, Aziraphale has to move quickly and radically through multiple mental and emotional states. For 6000 years he has believed he and Crowley cannot be together. Suddenly, with the revelation of Gabriel and Beezlebub, that foundational belief is challenged. Before he can work through what that could mean for him and Crowley, the Metatron offers an even cleaner solution - they can be protected from retribution and be on the same side again. When Crowley rejects reinstatement wholesale, it makes Aziraphale feel that he and his loving offer of a life together have been personally rejected. Then that rejection is further confused through the shocking experience of the kiss which Aziraphale does not have adequate context for or time to understand and integrate. In his emotional turmoil, Aziraphale falls back on his default crutch for dealing with sadness and anger - forgiveness - which further cuts him off from Crowley. Taken all together, this is a tumultuous rollercoaster of whiplash emotions that pull at every part of Aziraphale's self- and world-views.
Compared to what Crowley is going through, I think Aziraphale is going to have the tougher road in Season 3. Crowley may still need to better reconcile and integrate his feelings for Aziraphale, but Aziraphale has 6000 years of foundational ideology to challenge and evolve to reach a place where he and Crowley can be together as their authentic selves.

I think the religious satire in good omens is so clever like I could literally talk about it forever. Especially the contrast between Aziraphale and Crowley. My favourite way to explain it is that Aziraphale represents the top to bottom thinking whilst Crowley represents the bottom to top thinking when approaching religion. Top to bottom thinking is essentially starting with the answer and twisting the question to fit. This is really common in real life bible-bashers. Here, the answer is always God. God always knows what is good, what is right and why anything happens at all. Why must the world end after 6,000 years? Because God said it should. Why must an eleven year old boy be the vehicle for Armageddon? God. Why can't an angel and a demon be friends? God wouldn't want it that way. Aziraphale is so indoctrinated by this mentality that it seems obvious to him. It entirely baffles him when Crowley doesn't subscribe to this way of thinking as well. Bottom to top thinking is beginning with the question and then finding the answer - this way of thinking is why science always prevails over religion in a structured debate. Why is the world ending after 6,000 years? Because Heaven and Hell both think that it should. What can be done to stop an eleven year old boy from being the vehicle for Armageddon? Neutralise him. Why is Crowley, a demon, close friends with an angel like Aziraphale? Because he enjoys his company and companionship. Crowley is like a projection of Aziraphale's future. It's even more than that, too. Crowley is all the people who got out. Who grew up/lived in in a toxically religious environment who have moved on and become disillusioned with God and with religion. Aziraphale is all the people still trapped in that environment that know that's not where they belong, but stay because they don't know anything else. It's a genius allegory for toxic mindsets some Christians live by and I am honestly obsessed with it.
Crowley Of The Day: we all know Crowley panicked when Aziraphale said he felt love.
Just Pinned to good omens: I love these two so muchâŚâ¨Something I drew on my flight to Tampa , what better way to pass the time than to draw these two â¤ď¸â¨#goodomens #crowley #aziraphale #ineffable husbands https://ift.tt/2ZQmECG

Good omens studies. Just figuring out how to draw them comfortably.
Technically, we never see them wear the "turtleneck" without the jacket, and the fact that NO ONE in this fandom has proposed this idea is unacceptable

david tennant on aziraphale and crowley in a variety interview
i saw some pictures of flower crowns earlier and couldnât get touch-starved! crowley making some to keep his hands busy out of my head
aziraphale and crowley are having their picnic in the park, resting on a shared blanket, the air between them sizzling with the unfamiliar feeling of sweet freedom after the no-apocalypse
crowleyâs hands are twitchy, he doesnât know what to do with them, doesnât know if heâs allowed to reach out now, doesnât know if the angel longs for his touch as much as crowley is pining for his
itâs been 6000 years and yet, the yearning still floods his throbbing chest, still swamps his jittery body
heâs always been gone on him
but there are no sides anymore, not for them at least, no heaven or hell to fear - times have changed
so of course (and how could it not), a silent, aching what if starts nagging on the back of his mind; heâs anxiously waiting for a signal, some sort of sign that the angel craves this too
crowley needs to keep busy, needs to occupy himself with something, anything that will distract him from the overwhelming desire to brush over aziraphaleâs skin, to stroke over his rosy cheeks, to caress the wrinkles on his forehead
while aziraphale is savouring another one of the treats theyâd bought on the way to the park, cheerfully chattering about the last few days, crowley begins plucking daisies from the meadow
itâs something, but itâs not enough
he sneaks a look at the angel, the soft white curls on his head drifting gently in the summer breeze, igniting a rather absurd idea within him
really, itâs a foolish thought
captivated by the image of aziraphale with the flowers in his hair, his hands abruptly stop obeying him and seize the daisies
he snaps his fingers, adding a bunch of other wildflowers to his growing collection
crowley makes one, then - reluctantly - another flower crown, twisting the fragile flowers until heâs somewhat satisfied, somewhat pleased with the result
only afterwards, aziraphale holds his tongue; he quietly takes note of the demonâs slender hands, possibly on the verge of trembling again now that heâd finished the crowns
âfor us?â
nodding bashfully, crowley curses the lack of confidence he feels in this fleeting moment
aziraphale picks one of them, cautiously placing it on crowleyâs buzzing head, his soft fingers pressing lightly against his long hair, lingering to adjust it again and again until heâs finally content
crowleyâs barely breathing anymore when aziraphale grabs his hands, directing them towards the second crown, encouraging him to do the same for him
touching aziraphale - even just briefly - feeling the smooth texture of his hair, getting a taste of angel that heâd once believed heâd never experience - it is blissful, a marvellous sensation he fervently wishes to lose himself in
âthank you, my dearâ
hazel eyes meet crowleyâs amber ones as their heartbeats are adapting to a speedy, but steady rhythm, bodies almost embracing, almost intertwined like the invisible string tugging on their chests, pulling them closer to each other
tenderly, aziraphale draws crowleyâs hand to his mouth, plush lips planting a hint of a kiss on his warm palm
and just like that, his fingers stay still for the rest of the afternoon, crowleyâs earlier unease abandoned, long forgotten, eradicated by the angelâs soothing peck
they have the rest of their lives ahead of them, a study of touches just around the corner
âMy arms are too longâ will undoubtedly go down as one of Doctor Whoâs creepiest phrases, nevertheless this line is the one that haunts me:
Thereâs something about the casualness of how this line is spoken thatâs so deeply sinister, and Tennantâs dead-eyed, subtly malicious stare is absolutely bone-chilling
-give me coffee-
aziraphale: *slumped, his head on the table *
nina, places coffee in front of him: you alright there?
aziraphale: *shakes his head*
nina, smirking: your fella wearing that turtleneck again?
aziraphale: *nods*
nina, takes the coffee away: Iâll get you something stronger
I refuse to reblog this shit. Anyhow.
What the fuck is wrong with this guy.
Being aromantic means your are queer, whether you are aroace, aroallo, aromantic trans and especially aro cishet. Overall we should be glad we don't get kicked out of homes, abused, isolated. We are fighting to stop discrimination against our community.
Next point, most aro cishet men just want to be themselves, they are HUMAN like you and me. Sure some might enjoy sex, but that isn't a bad thing.
Plus they are doing what they say don't happen, the are discriminating against our own community. So all I can say is
Get YOUR head out of your ass, especially if you agree with this mf.

It's a shame we don't get a better view of Crowley's expression when he smiles so fondly at Aziraphale's delight at being praised.

Imagine Crowley takes the Prince of Hell job because that is the only way to stop the World ending.
Aziraphale is keeping his job for the same reason.
Their relationship is quite cold, Aziraphale tries to get closer but itâs like Crowley changed. He really put a thick wall between them. Heâs kind but heâs emotionless. Every time they finish talking business he just leaves.
With them in power and actually not being distracted by anything, they do sabotage the end of the World. They get rid of Metatron.
After, there is a wedding they get invited to. Maggie and Nina. Who would have thought. Aziraphale stands behind Maggie and Crowley stands behind Nina.
Aziraphale canât stop looking at Crowley. Heâs all in black and handsome, gold jewellery making him truly seem like a Prince.
But the Prince is not looking at him.
Aziraphale knows that Crowley was kicked out of his job just like him. They both had their pardons because they made everything better but they still sabotaged the end.
He didnât think either of them minded being set free. Thatâs what they always wanted.
During the party, Aziraphale watches Crowley dancing with others; laughs and moves all around. Heâs gorgeous.
During the meals, Crowley looks at Aziraphale, knowing that it will be that one moment where Aziraphale wonât be trying to look at him.
Heâs glad they were sat on opposite sides of the room.
When the girls plan to throw flowers, Aziraphale sees Crowley lounging in the chair, glass of champagne in his hand, nails still the black claws.
Not making a move with everyone else to catch the bouquet.
Aziraphale swallows his tears back. He misses him so much it is painful. And seeing him, during a wedding day, so far away, when it could have been themâŚ
And thatâs when Nina turns and throws her bouquet right at Crowley, smashing the glass out of his hand.
âNina!!!â
Aziraphale would have gasped in shock if he didnât get hit with another bouquet, from Maggie.
âMaggie!â
They donât really have time to swear before theyâre both dragged outside and kicked out on the balcony, told to âfucking talk!â before the door shuts behind them and the party continues without them.
Crowley is mad, swearing at them, âhave you seen this?!â as heâs taking leaves out of his hair.
Aziraphale is still holding his bouquet.
âHere.â He reaches out to take a flower out of Crowleyâs hair.
And Crowley finally looks at him.
And Aziraphale feels that maybe, just maybe, they will finally talk.
