Make your shortfalls a feature. Make art that only you can make. Make art that you cannot replicate.

Make sure you don't unravel without a plan. But don't let lack or adversity stop your art.

2 weeks post surgery. I still can't tolerate waistband, which means only dresses. But I don't have loose long dresses so I wear long socks with short dresses (because it's cold!)

This has to be the least sexy little dress, socks with garters and no underwear look ever.

They offered me the morphine button. I turned it down. I am not a fan of how the opioids mess with my head. But the mix of opioids got me through that first week, so they definitely have a place.

Why Do I Feel The Need To Share My Scab With The World?

The snow makes it hard to get out and walk safely. Which means getting into a car and driving to a store to go for a walk.

Getting into and out of the car is the hardest part. I regularly throw mini tantrums because my partner has to lift one of my legs into the foot-well.

It's only been a week and a half since the surgery. I shouldgive myself more grace.

But you know that redshirt sew pockets into their uniforms anyway.

the least realistic thing about star trek is that starfleet uniforms don’t have pockets and nobody complains about it

Today I walked all the way to the mailbox. It feels like a real achievement. All because my buddy mailed me a "get well soon" orchid, and that poor baby couldn't stay out in the cold.

A dancer friend of ours actually worked on the design and consulted on this. They did the sigil, the mask, the idol, the tarot cards, and a bunch of other art you can see. They didn't build the pieces, someone else did the fabrication.

Watching Archive 81 and I gotta say that statue has STRONG Late Bronze Age/Iron Age I Levantine vibes. It could easily be at home at an antiquities museum in Israel, Jordan, etc. Basalt construction, seated pose, minimal molded looking features with exaggerated eyes, hands on torso, the triangle and line design on the base, even the headdress. Also, the front of the Vissar building has those swirling/spiraling stonework border motifs which are super common in Levantine and Mesopotamian temples. The statue reminds me particularly of the Ammonite god Milkom.

Anyway, I appreciate the art design. 10/10 would display

This is thought provoking. I am someone who has gone looking for arrowheads in the streams growing up. I never thought of these larger implications.

If i found a ancient coin hoard buried in my backyard could i keep a coin or two when i donate it to a museum?

Absolutely not. I think that this is probably a joke, but depending on where you are, it's also illegal.

I am against private collections and the desire to own the material past. Keeping any item from a discovery is incredibly unethical and would earn you the permanent animosity from archaeologists, museum workers, archivists, curators, restoration specialists, and pretty much anyone else who belongs to a scientific study of the past.

I know that you probably meant this as a joke, and that this was not the answer you were expecting. My firmness is not in any way personal. I cannot stand for the humor about topics that are essentially looting, because humor serves to legitimize the act.

Some parts of the hospital aren't all bad. The nurse shows up every 4 hours like she has an alarm to bring the pain meds. It's a mixed bag, tho. Sometimes you are sleeping, and the 3 am blood draws come with super bright lights.

I've started calling the hour after I take the pain meds, "easy mode" anything that involves moving should be done then.

The beds sit up for you 9/10- highly recommend.

The blankets all come out of a warmer- so they ate always toasty. The nurses have stellar blanket strategies. 8/10 - will try at home.

women are taught “don’t send nudes if you don’t want them to get leaked”

men are never taught “if a woman feels comfortable enough to send you a nude photo, keep it to yourself. leaking it could put her in danger.”

if you don’t see the issue here, you’re a fucking moron.

As someone who developed an infection that literally ate the bone away in my jaw until there was nothing holding my teeth in my head except the gums...

Forgive yourself, and then correct the miss. It's okay that you missed brushing, or flossing, or the Dr visit. Now you can do it. And it's okay if you don't have time or energy to floss your whole mouth. Do one tooth now. Doing one is better than none.

And all this applies to more than your mouth. Can't shower? Wash your face or your pits. You might have energy later to shower. Cleaning is just too much? Grab whatever is next to you and take care of just that. This has been my depression stratagy for 25 years. It's not perfect but when you live alone...any little maintenance helps.

“if you can’t brush your teeth that’s fine uwu one step at a time” posts are supportive and that’s great but I’m about to have a 4.4k$ dental bill because I wasn’t taking care of my teeth when I was super depressed so uhh brush your fuckin teeth

Promote green spaces. Promote urban gardens. Promote suburban farming.

Riotous Seedbombing!

i was about to joke about how my political stance is “end lawnmower culture” but then it occurred to me that i actually Am against lawns as suburban status symbols and wastes of land that Could be used to sustain native flora & fauna and grow food for people, but no, instead they are these huge useless swaths of land that need Constant maintenance, the process of which is not only destructive, but Incredibly Loud

I think it is important (from a pagan perspective) to remember that secular Christmas is not celebrated they way pre-Christian Yule was celebrated. Every part of the secular holiday is steeped in Christian symbolism.

If you call it Yule and then use all the decorations for the Christian celebration- you aren't separating from Christmas. The same way that saying you celebrate saturnalia, and then putting and decorating up a tree doesn't make it not-christmas. The same with Festivas.

It's all still christian-light. And it is exclusive.

The secularization of Christmas doesn't make it any friendlier to non-Christians
nbcnews.com
Santa Claus, friendly elves and pagan trees don't make the holiday non-denominational.

The irony is that secular Christmas was supposed to be a solution for a multicultural America where there’s no state religion or required observance. But a watered-down version of Jesus’s so-called birthday... has just managed to make the assumption of Christianity even more of a given. Non-Christians who opt out of stockings and presents aren’t considered bad at religion; they’re considered bad at American-ness.... Each tinkly "It’s the Most Wonderful Tiiiiiime of the Yearrrrrr" is just one more tiny reminder that I’m not part of the majority: I’m an exception to the given social rule.
