It’s almost been a year since I blogged this (wow)! Since then, I have made a few friends on this hellsite, who I am really thankful for!

I am still opening to meeting new people and creating a community for myself on and off Tumblr.

I am relatively new to tumblr and am looking for friends and community. I am a Black, Indigenous, Queer, Disabled person. Would you be willing to share a few blog recs?

I'm sorry I can't think of any specific blogs off the top of my head, but I did recently stumble upon @disabledclassifieds. It's a blog that disabled people can use to post and reply to personal ads from other disabled people, and I feel like it may be a slightly better source of information than I am 😅 [grinning face with water drop emoji]

And (I don't know how new you are so I apologise if this comes across as patronising, it is not supposed to be), I personally found it a bit easier to integrate into a community in the disability punk tags. Cripplepunk, madpunk, audpunk etc. etc. Little corners of tumblr for various communities.

And (because I know sometimes it's easier if someone else makes the first move) I will encourage anyone who sees this, if they want to, to reach out to you! (If you would like that, of course)

At this point, I know I am just screaming into the void by posting this. The probability that more than three or four people will actually read this rant/diatribe is slim!

I have been working on an assignment at work for going on three days, and have yet to finish it. It might be more accurate to say that I have been researching for the assignment for 3 days, and really writing/drafting for three hours total. Why haven’t I made more progress you ask? Oh, it’s just because of my anxiety, Dyslexia, OCD, imposter syndrome, burnout, skill regression, and brain fog! No big deal, (sarcasm)!

Sometimes, it feels I’m slowly loosing myself.

You can say "I am struggling to do [x thing] because of my disability" and neurotypicals + able-bodied people will come up with any reason ever why it isn't actually your disability causing you to struggle and is actually a personal moral failing.

How do you write image IDs?

a lot of people have put this in far better words than i could so i'll direct you to some helpful posts [here, here] but while you're here, take my two little tidbits anyway!

if i'm IDing a funny post, i try to structure the ID like the punchline of the image. if i'm IDing a sad art piece, i try and write it with the same sadness the art conveys. generally i try to translate what the image made me feel into written words.

literally just start. start today. even if your first attempt is shit, you are guaranteed to help someone who might not have been able to understand otherwise. its practice more than anything honestly. just start!

i'd also like it to be known that while i've got some visual stuff going on, i am not legally blind. i don't use a screenreader. i'm not going to be your best source of information and most all of your questions have likely been asked and answered by people leaps and bounds more qualified than i am. feel free to ask questions but also know for the best info you should probably be going to someone else! /lh
