things that seem small can be really brave:
getting up in the morning
asking for help
stopping when you know you’ve pushed yourself too hard
admitting when you were in the wrong
forgiving yourself
making an effort even when you don’t have the motivation
reaching out to others when you feel alone
+ much more
You CANNOT lose a month's progress in an hour. If you fall back or you do something you're not proud of, that does not undo all your hard work.
You've formed habits, you've made changes, and one mistake will not erase that.
Beating yourself up for falling back into old habits won't undo anything. All you can do is continue forward toward your goal.
Remind yourself of everything you did that you were proud of. Remember the progress you made. Acknowledge your power.
Please don't punish yourself for that moment when you lost control. You weren't weak, you aren't a failure, and everything you worked for is not ruined.
Connecting the dots between generational trauma. There were some things my dad didn’t know that I knew about what led to complex family dynamics and emotions I didn’t understand until I was in my early 20s. One of my uncles shared the history not long before he unexpectedly passed.
Dad’s dad made a choice (well, several choices) that leaves a forever impression on any kid that learns a parent was dishonest and that’s why there are now two separate households and holidays. This might explain why my dad struggled to navigate fatherhood, on top of only being 18. It was a few years from my parents’ divorce before he decided to give it a real try. I’ll never know exactly what my great-grandma said to him to change his mind about signing away his parental rights.
He didn’t know what he didn’t know. Some family members have found that hard to believe, but I think their experience clouds their understanding and nothing now could change that. It’s unknowable to them and I’m not responsible for trying to make them understand.
I forgive him.
sadness, grief, anger, etc. might feel comfortable because they’re familiar, but that doesn’t make them good for you. feel them, but don’t let them overtake you.

What you call overreacting might just be your body saying: "This feels like danger to me because it once was"
What you call emotional instability might just be your body saying: "I was never taught that feeling emotions could be safe"
What you call resistance might just be your body saying: "I don't feel safe enough to do what you want me to"
What you call laziness might just be your body saying: "I'm frozen because I had to work hard for too long"*
What you call numbness might just be your body saying: "I had to shut down to keep you safe"
What you call avoidance might just be your body saying: "Im not ready to face this yet. I need slower exposure to it"

*gentle reminder that body gets tired also after doing mentally draining work/job (which includes feeling stressed too, not just studying or working 9-5 in front of a computer -which holds responsabilities, anyway)
