The Sunshine Court being a trilogy just means Nora is treating this story with care and wants the final product to be as fleshed out as possible. It means Jeremy’s backstory is somehow more complex than we thought. It means Jean and Jeremy’s relationship is a slowburn but maybe they kiss in in the second book and figure stuff out in the third (i.e., Jeremy’s family, Jeremy’s captaincy, Jean’s past trauma and his healing.) It means we get another two books of Jean learning to live because he wants to. It means another two books of You’re place is here with me, with us. I’m you’re captain. You’re my partner. We’re supposed to be doing this together, aren’t we? Stop leaving me behind. Look at me.

Neil loves his name. One time he wrote his name in his notebook with a heart instead of a dot above the 'i'. Aaron caught him by looking over his shoulder and laughed so hard he almost passed out. Years later on the invitation for Katelyn and Aaron's wedding Neil's name is written with the heart. Andrew thinks it's just how Katelyn writes, but Neil knows that it's Aaron trying to piss him off.
"Why are you writing Neil's name with a heart?" Katelyn asks her fiancé as they are filling out the wedding invitations.
Aaron looks at her with a diabolical smile on his face. "It will piss him off, you'll see."

🌀”I have a bit of an attitude problem” 🌀5/6 Foxhole Court overlays.
Featuring the scene from chapter 13 with the Kathy Ferdinand show and Riko meeting!
Inspired by this quote:
“Ah, forgive my bad manners,” Kathy said to Neil. “I didn’t forget you over there, I just got distracted. Let’s get the pair of you introduced, though I’m not sure either one of you needs an introduction by now. Riko, Neil. Neil, Riko. Kevin’s past and present or should I say past and future?”
[…]
“I will ask you only once to tone down the animosity”
“I can’t,” Neil said. “I have a bit of an attitude problem.”
Only one overlay left to go! Though I must admit I think this is one of my favourites, especially with Andrew in the front row!
Is one of anyone else's favorite scenes in aftg that chapter in The Kings Men where the team is on the drive to Binghamton and Neil spends the entire second half of the trip talking to Andrew. Like:
Neil wanting to sit and talk exy with the rest of the team but that would mean Andrew would be left alone in the back of the bus.
Neil staring and not knowing what it was he found so interesting (beautiful) about Andrew's figure.
Neil calling Andrew just so Andrew would look at him and he'd be able to better study him. (And not being embarrassed or thinking anything of it because he is just admiring Andrew and he sees nothing wrong with that)
The whole "I knew I’d look out for only me when the world went to hell. I don’t want to be that person anymore. I want to go back for you.” conversation AND ANDREW GIVING IN
Neil talking about his life and all the places he's been and Andrew talking about his life after foster care (just the fact that they had this conversation with each other that they won't willingly have with anyone else)
ANDREW NEVER TAKING HIS EYES OR ATTENTION OFF NEIL AND LETTING HIM RAMBLE
I love something about Andrew being the one who tells Neil everyone is betting on his sexuality.
NEIL SAYING HE DOESNT SWING AND NEVER WILL BECAUSE THE ONLY PERSON HE WANTS IS ANDREW, followed by Andrew's "don't say stupid things", AND THEN FOLLOWED WITH NEIL'S "stop me" AND KISS (that he initiated)
Everything about this little portion of the chapter I love so much.
Nowadays, people just don’t know how to go on a normal date.
Thinking about how the foxes are all technically famous and probably have fangirls. Imagine how many girls are only at those games to see Matt or Kevin. Hell, even Neil. The posters would be insane 😭
For the record, Neil will do as he's told by others because compliance gets him what he wants. His obedience is fueled solely by ulterior motive.
But Neil will do as he's told by Andrew because Andrew Said So. His obedience is fueled by trust and pretty eyes.
I think Andrew's desperation to live is a little overlooked in the fandom. It's not explicitly stated in the books, other than his SH scars, but I honestly think it is so important to understanding him and his motivations.
Did Andrew ever plan to live past graduation? Before Kevin came along and promised his life would have worth? Did he plan on disappearing when Aaron eventually walked away from him? Believing nobody would notice if he was gone?
He clung on purely for Aaron, to make sure Aaron had a bright future ahead and could go live without him. To make sure that Nicky could go back to Erik without worry.
Before Neil, Andrew didn't believe he had anything to live for. He made a very one sided deal with Kevin to find something, anything, to build his life around after graduation, believing his brother would leave him alone once again.
Because at the heart of it all, Andrew doesn't want to die. Not really.
Andrew has chronic depression and he is suicidal. He sits on the edges of roof tops to feel. He puts his life on the line again and again with little regard for his own safety. He makes promises that put him at a severe disadvantage.
His promises are what keeps him alive, what forces him to live. Dying would break his promise, and Andrew has suffered enough from broken promises.
He doesn't want to die. He wants to survive those who beat him down. He wants to move on. He wants to get better. He wants to live.
He just doesn't know how.
I need more fics where writers acknowledge the implications of Andrew's eidetic memory and fucking run with that shit
Neil asking if Andrew can tell if someone broke into their apartment and Andrew scanning everything in the room, comparing his internal Perfect Clarity Snapshots, saying no and Neil relaxing
Andrew mentally sorting his Many Snapshots of Neil Smiling and Neil Waking Up In The Morning and Neil-
Andrew reading cookbooks once and being able to feed Neil "I'll eat whatever is put in front of me - wait my preferences matter?" Josten all sorts of delicious foods
Andrew reciting books from memory to read to Neil and/or their foster kids and/or The Fox Kits even when the physical copy is nowhere to be found
Andrew bringing up a perfectly clear and accurate mental recording of Bee walking him through a grounding exercise when he has a panic attack
We need more is all I'm saying!!!
