it MIGHT put him in a coma
I still cannot fathom what would possess Arthur to have seen “Ride Him, Cowboy” FOUR TIMES.
Faroe would have been gone by then, he wasn’t taking her to go see it. Did Parker drag him along? Four times? Did he go by himself? Four times. Did he just genuinely have earnest, honorable Wild West cowboy daydreams? Did he like the little music number that’s there in the middle? Was he just SO BAFFLED by the plotline of a ACTUAL JUDGE trying to EXECUTE a HORSE for MURDER perplex him so much he had to see it over and over again to truly believe it? (As did I?) Did he just really really like the way John Wayne looked in that little necktie?
I have so many questions.
Let's be crystal clear. Queerbaiting is real. But it occurs when the creators intentionally hint at a queer relationship to lure in a queer audience to give them money, but never actually follow through on their heavy-handed implications of a queer relationship. Queerbaiting does not occur when the creator has been transparent from the very beginning that Malevolent is about friendship and platonic love, meant to work through the toxic masculinity they've lived throughout their entire life, and to express healthy platonic love (and sometimes unhealthy love) between two male-presenting characters. It is not queerbaiting when they emphatically tell each other that they love each other, because love isn't exclusively romantic, and while it is absolutely okay for people to ship them (and something that the creator is totally FINE with, btw), it is not okay to accuse the creator of lying about their relationship when he's been clear about it from the very beginning.
Friendship and platonic love is just as meaningful as romantic love and that's the whole point of Malevolent.

I fully believe Mr. Faust is the most disturbing part of malevolent. By a long shot.
It’s not just the idea of cannibalism or murder or Arthur’s barbarity caused by tkiy that makes it so disturbing. It’s John that makes it so disturbing. It’s Arthur’s ability to see the death of corpses he touches. The fact that every single time Arthur touched Faust to take a bite of him, John had to watch his death over and over just so Arthur could eat. A constant reminder that the worst, most powerful parts of John caused this, and that in a way, Arthur’s violence was his fault. It’s like the king is telling John that he can’t escape what he comes from, his true nature.
And whenever Arthur does his corpse touching ability, it sounds like it hurts John by the way he talks. So what was he doing while Arthur ate Faust? Was he silent? Was he begging Arthur to stop? Stopping means starvation. This is why Faust is the ultimate punishment to me because it effectively dehumanizes Arthur and destroys John’s self image and faith in his friend, which are key parts of their individual characters.
