Sue's story from the #WeAreAllSue toolkit:
In 2022, Sue Agazie, high-achieving in her field, was promised financial support for her tuition fees through scholarships and paid opportunities and enrolled into the PhD programme at Newcastle University Business School with this understanding. When Sue arrived in the UK in 2023, however, she learned that all of this financial promise was a lie; the scholarships that she had been promised never materialised. Instead, she has gone into horrific debt and is having trouble surviving.
For almost a year, Sue sought financial support for herself and her family, including grants and opportunities that would burnish the reputation of her supervisor and university as a whole. However, in that year, her supervisor not only prevented her from applying to scholarships and paid opportunities, but further controlled her research and day-to-day quality of life, with a high-level of surveillance, inappropriate supervisory practices, and escalating harassment of both her and her family.
These practices include this supervisor repeatedly preventing Sue from taking part in important professional development activities, such as research presentations, within the Business School. He also isolated her from her senior colleagues, forbidding her from attending particular activities they were facilitating, or spreading malicious rumours about them. Further, the primary supervisor repeatedly ignored Sue's pleas for support on funding applications and other opportunities that would alleviate the precarious financial situation into which she had been placed, telling her to “stop sending me links to scholarships”.
This behaviour would culminate in the primary supervisor verbally abusing Sue a number of times, and maligning Sue’s husband, alleging that he has been too lazy to financially support her. These inappropriate supervisory practices belie Newcastle University’s commitment to gender equality under the Athena SWAN Charter, for which it holds a Silver award, and for which the Business School holds a Bronze award.
An environment of terror and retaliation
This environment of surveillance, harassment, and terror has grossly impacted the health of Sue as well as that of her spouse and children. In particular, her kidney condition escalated to stage 5 kidney disease, a severe and terminal illness that causes disablement and time-sensitive, highly-delicate medical needs, during this ordeal. The National Kidney Foundation in the United States indicates that “stress and uncontrolled reactions to stress” can “lead to kidney damage.” These compounding issues have also understandably affected Sue's studies, although she has bravely persisted in her research, meeting important deadlines.
Sue raised these issues using relevant avenues of informal complaint, including her supervisory teams and student support services; there are multiple complaints that have been raised in this department. However, she did not receive sufficient support. Further, her severe health issues were not treated with the urgency and importance that they deserved. In October and November 2023, Sue's supervisor accused her of allegedly plagiarising his work in what Sue sees as a malicious act of retaliation and victimisation over her informal complaint, and an attempt to sabotage her reputation not just at Newcastle University, but to prestigious global networks. Following all of this mistreatment, Sue filed a formal complaint against her supervisor in February 2024.
Newcastle University is closing ranks
The university came back to Sue on 5 March 2024 with its response, alleging that she had fabricated the complaint against her supervisor in retaliation for his accusations of research misconduct against her, painting this vulnerable, disabled African student as a malicious liar. The supervisor even denies the relevance of her terminal illness and implicates her young child's behaviour in his response, while maintaining that her terminal illness "has nothing to do with her studies or work pressure here". Sue maintains: “During the time that I was supervised by the primary PhD supervisor, he neither kept in regular communication about my disability nor did he signpost me to relevant services within and outside of Newcastle University that could help me. It is dangerous for the primary supervisor to maintain that my disability would not have affected my studies. His comments show a gross level of disability discrimination that does not befit the reputation that Newcastle University seeks to cultivate as an inclusive place.”
Now, the university is claiming that Sue is not "engaging" sufficiently with the programme, and is threatening to report her to the Home Office, despite a written promise in January 2024 that her status would be unaffected due to the ongoing complaint process, and full knowledge of her terminal stage 5 kidney failure. Adding more insult to injury, Newcastle University Accommodation Service has been hounding Sue for rent arrears, even though they know she is critically ill and in a complaint with the university, surviving with the support of Food & Solidarity. Sue has pleaded with the university’s Accommodation Service for a rent freeze, indicating her urgent health complications and her complaint underway with the university. In all correspondences, the Accommodation Service has ignored Sue’s pleas for clemency. There is real fear that the Accommodation Service will evict Sue, her husband and their child. This will, no doubt, cause real precarity to Sue’s already fragile health condition.
We are appalled that the Newcastle University Business School is utilising obvious misogynoirist tropes to close ranks around a disabled Black migrant student who has been treated horribly, and weaponising her precarious migrant status against her as she attempts to seek justice. We are also aware that Sue is not the only student in this situation and that there have been other complaints in this department. It is a stark illustration of the pernicious institutional racism at Russell Group universities that a disabled Black migrant woman with caring responsibilities has been treated this way not only by a supervisor, but by the institution, as well as the abject way these universities instrumentalise migrant students from the Global South as sources of income that they can afterwards dispose of.
Sue maintains that this ordeal has not diminished her resolve to complete her PhD studies at Newcastle University Business School. She says, “I want to finish my PhD research. But for that to happen, Newcastle University must provide the necessary support for a disabled student in a non-abusive environment. I hope that the university listens to me and we can come to a resolution on this matter soon.”

An autistic friend of mine just said this to me “The harder I work at communication the more people expect from me and the less they are willing to compromise.” and it is the most fucking heartbreaking thing I’ve heard.

There's nothing more dehumanizing than people inventing a Droid to teach other people how to socialize just because they don't want to actually socialize with that person and you wonder why people have antisocial personalities. Realistically & admittedly, money is a resource & unfortunately, it's tied to our biological survival.

I am indeed a nonconformist and likely I'm smarter than most of the people that work at your company & almost assuredly smarter than all of upper business management and everyone that sits on the board but don't hate me or discriminate just because of that mere possibility. Nor should any of you be concerned that you cannot command me. Neither is a problem all the time even though a lot of the time it probably would be worth worrying about. I'm not like most people. Industry standards don't apply to me & that I'm certain of. I'm aware that CEOs don't like to hire people that are smarter than them & conformists don't trust people who don't follow orders or can't be "handled"... Logic is what rules me which means I can be reasoned with. I'm smarter than every single person I've ever met and most every person I've ever seen so none of you get to tell me what to do because none of you know better than me but there are areas where you're specialization & therefore recommendations matter far more to me than my ability to innately infer. I know my weaknesses and I can admit when I don't know something. I don't care about being right, all I care about is the correct answer. Positive & negative exist in all things & directing the flow of resources without disrupting a system makes more sense than being disruptive. War is inefficient.
@staff you see, I have to say all of this because I know what your concerns are & if I don't address these possible elephants in the room it limits the probability that you will do as I suggest. Referencing organic communications again, I cannot emphasize this enough. I once saw social media as a way to harvest pocket change from billions of people as a way to fund my curative solutions for societal ills but the failures that I've been talking about here have led every tech company to abuse and sabotage the likes of me. I've been studying social media, streaming and gaming platforms full time for the past 10 years to examine all of their failures & push them to the very extreme limits. Every single one of them has failed my tests so now there's no point in testing you/tumblr in those ways. Needless to say, I know what the problems are, I know the weaknesses & I know the consequences of these failures.
I really don't care to use social media any longer but because every single one of you seems to love to sabotage me, oppress me, judge me inappropriately, presumptuously assume that you can tell me what to do or how to talk or how to defend myself & how to course correct the insanely ignorant majority while ruining my ability to influence and educate in a civil manner while discouraging me from respecting any of you because you sabotage me so badly that I have no way of being economically viable in a world that hates everyone who's smarter than them where social media has become one of the only options so you're robbed me from having a megaphone to the world, so I don't have any patience and I don't see any reason in respecting your rules or societies status quo driven opinions about what is or isn't acceptable. The entire tech industry, toxic conservatives, authoritarians, antisocialmedia platforms all combined have left me with next to nothing to live for. Let's say that you all end up doing kyc verification or taking advantage of that atrocious violation of privacy Arkose challenge BS like Twitter has stupidly decided to do...
You'll leave the likes of me with no other option but to go to the dark web and once I'm on the dark web, I'm not going to be censored. I'm not going to be shadowbanned. You'll be leaving me with no other collaborators other than other people like me if I get lucky enough to find them or some of the most intelligent criminal elements as well as darkest people on the planet. What do you think the possible outcomes of that unwanted equation could be?
I've always tried to make you social media platforms family; that's what I do for everyone that I bring into my circle for whatever reasons. All of the choders reliably piss on that offer. Society has done the same. I've been vilified, criminalized and shunned for over 20 years because of myopic presumptuous overconfident idiots who thought their opinions mattered or scared authoritarian cowards trying to control everything pissed off at me because I peacefully refused to live my life precisely how they demanded or I couldn't be what they wanted me to be.
Trust me when I tell you that all of your industry standard approaches, your arrogance, your abuse of privileged power is farming monsters. All of you are close to pushing me to the point where I become some sort of monster that won't be a criminal but you just might find is an even bigger problem.
Already I understand how to wield my influence in a way that is untraceable and unstoppable. I'm not going to tell you how but don't think for a second that it's not possible and even if you think I'm having delusions of grandeur, it would be foolish of any of you to assume that somebody else doesn't know how to influence ways you don't understand. Your industry standards affect more than just me. You keep rolling the dice, those anomalies like me are going to be targeted by your abusive industry standards. Most of them will react far worse than my emotional and intellectual honesty. Most will not offer a collaboration and curative solutions. If you send every single person that is even remotely similar to me to the dark web, you're going to suffer in the years to come so substantially that you shouldn't be able to sleep at night, you should be concerned and you should be taking me up on my offer because I know how to mitigate or remedy this issue AKA de-escalate the situation.
Every single antisocial media platform spots me as a charismatic leader who's also a non-conformist and they think I'm a bad influence. They never really get to know me and they never protect me from the majorities abuse, they never fully support me and they never have tried to make me family. Instead they oppress me thinking that that way I won't build an army of influence that becomes a problem for them... Now just imagine what will happen if you leave me with no other option but the dark web and I build my army of influence there. Already people share my content on the dark web or so I'm told whereas they will not share my content on Facebook. I'm talking about my intellectual content that you don't know anything about, not degenerate meme humor which is actually safer to share in church than my intellectual content.
So, what's the product of destroying someone's life who's a prolific creative genius &a natural born King of Kings who's left with no other option but to go to the dark web to find their team or family or tribe, while also leaving them with absolutely no reason to respect a single law or rule bcz all the authoritarian industry standards destroyed their life to the point where they've got nothing left to lose or live for?
I mean, after over 20 years of living in a bedroom prison of under supported relative poverty & my only access to the outside world being the internet & or social media, trust me when I tell you that all you've got left to punish me with is murder & if you want to give me a death sentence I'll just thank you for it. So really, you're only logical strategic option is to reason with me & make me family.
The alternative, as a best case scenario is that I go to the dark web, I make friends with a bunch of criminals, hackers and rebel geniuses, they end up joining me, we found a tech company and we disrupt the industry harming your bottom line. The worst case scenario or everything in between is something I don't really want to list or consider and neither to you. I mean, I may become a king of an underworld where the scariest people on the planet Revere me and then if anybody fucks with me at all, regardless of whether I condoned it or not, very dangerous people might come after the unscrupulous business people and their families just because they fucked with me or pissed on me. That's not a threat, that's a concern and I wouldn't want that but it wouldn't matter what I wanted because the sort of people were talking about are not the sort of people that take orders. Now how many times has the tech industry ostracized someone like me who just didn't tell them everything I'm telling you right now?
Can you think me being rude, from some arbitrary perspective based on fucking fake ass trivial Petty fabricated childish rules invented before we invented toilet paper is the problem here? You really think that me calling someone a fucking asshole is such a big deal? I think you're focusing on the wrong issues for the wrong reasons and it's become a distraction from what's actually important or the unobvious more extreme dangers all around you. This makes you a liability for yourself, your family's, your business and the world. These failures are the majorities industry standard modality. You all need me a lot more than I need you but neither of us is going to survive without each other. The way they'll suffer is mostly a torment from a product of a perception of reality that is broken more over anything that I do. They will torment themselves with a sense of shame, guilt regarding their sense of failure or their sense of loss regarding a bunch of petty bullshit or because they didn't win their childish game or their regret & jealousy when they realize who they shit on & threw away when they find out who I am.
When I list the "best case scenario", it's subjective of course. I mean, I'm not going to become Hitler or a serial killer or an organized crime boss. I'm not a fanatical cult leader. At the same time, even though I would consider those heinous and obvious expressions of tormented monsters that emerge and then abuse the world wreaking havoc... All of you are collectively leaving me with no option but to squander my abilities with such wasted thoughts and likely wasted words when I should have just gone to the dark web 8 years ago as soon as I saw these behaviors, knowing that they were going to be the industry standard. I should have never considered it reasonable to experiment with giving all of you the opportunity to take my hand & do things differently but here we are still wasting time because of my irrational idealism and misplaced Faith and Hope that you all are not as broken and monstrous unnatural corrupted industry standard production fucking droids that unfortunately every day shows me you choders & "business people" actually are.

The majority live in an ivory Tower where they poop out the window so they don't have to smell their own shit. All of that shit lands on me and then I'm look down upon and blamed for stinking. As soon as you arbitrarily label what is good or acceptable, you by default create the villain of whom you define as bad or unacceptable. That's you and the majority's failure & it is not complicated enough to be realistically applied in any way.
None of you business people are ever forced to pay the true cost of doing business and that's what makes you such a liability and so unethical. You are indeed criminally negligent mostly just because you don't want to do the hard things which in most cases is indeed facing the complexity of reality, admitting you have no idea what to do and then hunting for someone who fills that weakness for you. You had the skills, the money but you did not have a visionary or your visionary was comparatively not as virtuous as what you needed, likely someone who would make a good apprentice student teacher under me and make no mistake about it, you're all my students until I tell you otherwise. In reality, when you're no longer my student, we will all know it without needing to say it. Then you'll be prepared to wield the power you possess... Or you'll know when it's time to pump the brakes or just do something else entirely and as to whether or not you'll have the willpower to act on that understanding is an entirely different tangential subject for us to analysis... Another aspect of the complexity of reality of which requires compensating for liability.
Make no mistake about it, all the costs of doing business that you could cover but you don't have to so you won't just so you can make more money or appear on paper to be more successful doesn't mean you won't have to pay that price in some other way. And if you don't pay the price, your children will. Ultimately, all of the criminal negligence the tech industry and every other industry is responsible for does in a roundabout way create problems that the taxpayer ends up paying for which means you do pay for it but you just don't get directly blamed for it. Trust me when I tell you that preventing the damage is actually far more efficient than cleaning up the mess later.
Every time an industry makes this failed decision and P hacks their perception of economic success, they take a loan out on the ecosystem and their children's future.

Lastly, I fucking hope, you can't regulate billions of people. Presuming you can regulate billions of people with whack-a-mole authoritarianism or intimidation is even more absurd than the already completely absurd idea that you can tell people who are older & more intelligent as well as wiser than you, what to do.
Let's see, what are your specializations again? And you think you've learned enough to make a judgment call regarding the complexities of the braid of every scientific field and subfield that yields our current state of existence? If the answer is yes, well, I assure you that you're very wrong about that and evidence is suggesting quite the opposite... But I can work with that because if you assert that you know better than me then you at least are presuming that that sort of thing can be known. Then it's just a matter of me showing you how very wrong you are pretending that you know better than me and it's positive overall because you know you can understand it eventually and then I teach you as efficiently as possible.
If you're pessimistic then you're biased. just to be clear, the fact that music was nominated for a golden globe is absolutely disgusting. every single (adult) involved in that gross, ableist movie should be sickened by themselves.
for those of you who don't know, music (2021) is a movie being directed by sia about a nonverable autistic girl. not only does it not include any actually autistic people in the movie itself but it also only took advice from autism speaks which is looked at as a hate group by the majority of the autistic community. leaked scenes have also shown the movie glorifying prone restraints which are incredibly dangerous and have resulted in major injuries and even death to disabled people as recently as last year.
autistic people just like me have been incredibly outspoken about how harmful this movie is but the allistic have been mostly silent. we are already seeing reviews calling this movie 'inspiring' and important' and it's absolutely horrific! we need your help calling this out. please stand with us and call out this disgusting display of disrespect to autistic folks.

Pro-Lifer’s Ableism
So called pro lifers claim to care so much about disabled people just, because they screech about people who get abortions because the fetus has Down syndrome, but don’t say a word when caregivers murder disabled people. They also want to cut benefits for disabled people (which are difficult enough to qualify for and are extremely punitive) and stand by while disabled people lose custody of their children, because of their disabilities.
Plus, their creepy fetus worshipping stance means they’d let me die if a wanted pregnancy goes very wrong (e.g. ectopic pregnancy, sepsis, preeclampsia). And they don’t acknowledge the hundreds of disabled people (especially disabled POC) who were sterilized against their will.
In short, they are hypocritical jerks who honestly don’t give a shit about disabled people.
Long Overdue Ableism Post
I am sick and tired of certain right wing Christians whining about the ADA (you know the law that ensures that disabled people get an equal shake in life). Without the ADA, myself and many of my classmates wouldn’t have been able to attend school unless our parents could afford the fees for one of the few private schools for disabled people. Many of us would be unable to move in public since ramps wouldn’t be installed, and the visually impaired couldn’t utilize guide dogs.
In the past, many of us were forcibly institutionalized and sterilized since we were viewed as worthless. Those who weren’t institutionalized were written off by teachers as lost causes, our issues largely undiagnosed. The fact that many of us were murdered in Nazi Germany was ignored until recently. It took mass demonstrations before the ADA was passed in 1990.
For a group that claims to support “Christian charity” y’all sure aren’t practicing what you’re preaching.

the psych facility I stayed in at 17 didn’t give me a room due to my being a wheelchair user.
i was forced to sleep on an air mattress on the floor in the dayroom of the psych facility because they were “afraid i would fall”.
the dayroom was the “hub” of the facility. i had to try to sleep while patients were getting prepped for admission at the desk only a few feet from me. while people were getting blood drawn, meds administered, etc. i barely slept.
they also didn’t let me bring my own wheelchair in, and made me use a hospital wheelchair which was not fit to my orthopedic needs. my shoulders still ache when i see one of those fucking rust buckets.
psychiatric care is not safe for physically disabled people. if i have another mental health crisis, I will choose anything over going back to one of those places. i would rather die by my own hand than go back there and be subjected to that kind of treatment again.
inpatient psychiatric care is typically only for physically nondisabled people.
psych facilities will often simply turn you away if you have mobility aids or specific medical or access needs they are unwilling to meet. i have also heard stories of them doing things like taking away people's communication devices.
institutional psychiatric 'care' is a mixed blessing at best, but since it's what we have, it should be available to everyone who needs it. people with non-psychiatric disabilities are more likely than average, not less, to need this type of care. but it is often not available for us.
i feel overwhelmed. tell me if i should do this.

Fun story from a few months ago, hospital parking lot chaos lmao. I use a wheelchair btw- was rolling out of the parking lot building thing and shut the door behind me, only to be stuck on a tiny piece of sidewalk with no ramp and a huge curb. And the door didn’t have a handle on the outside too. I had to cling onto a sign post and have someone put my chair in the street in order to get to the hospital entrance lmao. Absolutely wild.
Trans & disabled community: "you shouldn't have to proof to anyone you're valid! Fuck the medical system and doctors mistreating us! You don't need proof of your suffering, only you know your true pain!"
Me: "Well puberty blockers caused me to severely suffer, cause issues I still suffer from years later, and nobody ever beliefs me and sweeps my issues under the rug despite having suffered a great number, and still am." Trans & disabled community: "Okay but like, where's the proof? Why didn't you ever tell that to the doctors?* Actually research proofs that is literally impossible. Have you ever considered you might be the issue here? Like did you even listen to your doctors? Maybe you had some underlying condition?" Me: *stares into the camera as if it's the office* * I did alert the doctors to this, but they either refused to examine me, or also told me that what I was suffering from was simply impossible according to research.
Full stop, I hate how disabled people are ripped off when it comes to buying basic items. Why the fuck is an electric wheelchair $4000, ableds can buy a used car cheaper than that. Ableds get everything catered to them yet I’m trying to get a new wheelchair and can’t afford it. That’s my fucking legs. This also applies to things that disabled people want, like I shouldn’t have to pay $1000 for an adapted guitar. You’re ripping one of the poorest population in the world.
There needs to be a cap on how much vendors can charge for equipment rentals and items that are needed or wanted by disabled people but y’all not ready to talk about that.

Disability body positivity
Am I the only one who gets a little annoyed with the body positivity phrases ‘You are not your body’? Like yes I am my body. My body dictates everything I do and everywhere I go and how I experience life. Its ok that I have these problems and I’ll love my body anyway but I want people to stop telling me that I can love myself in spite of my body. I am my disabilities they define me but its ok to love and celebrate my disabilities. I know this is something abled people probably don’t think about too much but it feels patronizing.
