Quite honestly, I fell in love with clean eating courtesy the Vegetarian Meal Bowl at Farmer's Cafe. ๐
But it in no way meant that I was going to leave rest of their menu untouched. On exploring, I chanced upon their Mediterranean Platter (a very happy discovery, indeed). ๐
Housing three different kinds of hummus -- the beetroot, the chickpea and the olive and black bean -- there's a generous serving of lavash, carrot and cucumber sticks along with 3 piping hot falafels. ๐
My favorite among the three is that beetroot hummus. Sweet and earthy while imbibing a wonderful coolness, it goes beautifully with the crunchy carrots. The robust earthiness is balanced by salt and a hint of chili to cut through the natural, beet sweetness.๐
The olive and black bean one comes as a total surprise. Lavash'd up, it is creamy with thick savory notes of black beans, chili and ground spices.๐
Break open a falafel ball and the aroma of singing cumin and coriander wafts out. Quite frankly, you could eat these plain, they're that good. But they also pair up really well with the classic, chickpea and garlic hummus. I have to constantly remind myself to be a gentlewoman and share these with the person across the table.๐
If you love unhurried, easy conversations and the idea of slow lunches, this Mediterranean Platter makes for the perfect background score. How you can nibble and spoon something so simple yet tasty and have the joy of sharing it with someone makes for a delightful experience! ๐
I am not a huge fan of their lavash sticks. They have a weirdly tangy and bitter taste which is unpleasant if you eat these individually. ๐
Lastly, the fourth mound is the most heavenly ensemble of cauliflower couscous. It comes with notes of vinegar and fresh coriander. This provides immense relief from all that hummus creaminess. ๐
Bro-Tip: Try the veggie sticks with all three hummus's. The cucumber goes really well with the black-bean rendition. Also, the lavash isn't unbearable if you pair it up with the beetroot hummus. ๐
Lots hope I weigh less next Sunday, I binged yesterday and I only gained 500g despite eating like 2000 cals.
A cliche that sounds like a broken record. Well, Iโm sorry to break it to you, but yes, you are.ย
Iโll have to go back here to explain my point. In 2014 I was diagnosed with Cholinergic Urticaria (CU). CU is a reaction of your skin to an increase in your body temperature, resulting in tiny hives. They are itchy, swollen, and they cover you from head to toe, lasting from thirty minutes to two hours. I typically got them when I exercised, was extremely stressed or while taking a hot shower.
Thereโs no documented cure from CU. You just have to learn how to live with it. And I did.
In February 2023, after another regular run on a treadmill, I noticed that my skin was totally fine. No red itchy bumps closing together, nothing. For the first time in almost a decade, my skin was clean. To say I was surprised would be an understatement out of proportion. I thought that NOT having my body FAILED me, was a FAILURE in itself.
Over the following days I tested it with vigorous workouts, hot baths and sauna visits. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Now, four months later, I finally believe it.ย
Do I know why itโs gone? I donโt. Do I believe that my immune system rebooted and my diet was a big part of it? Yes, I do.ย
It dates back to my adolescent years when I started modeling. First, it was about trying to follow the elusive 90-60-90 standard, then about fighting acne off my skin and gastritis off my stomach. Today, I allow myself to have cheat meals and late-night snacks here and there, but what you MOSTLY wonโt find in my diet is
๐ฆglutenย
๐ฆsugar
๐ฆred meatย
๐ฆdairyย
๐ฆteaย
Over the years things like checking the labels in a supermarket and having veggies and fruit in abundance at home have become my second nature. Whether itโs a curse or a blessing, Iโm totally obsessed with whatโs on my plate.
Iโm a great believer in the theory that our body is capable of curing itself once you create the conditions for that. So, if thereโs something to cure and youโre considering where to start, start with whatโs on your plate. As simple as that. Your problems might not disappear overnight, but, little by little, theyโre bound to get better.
