Frank Gorshin, Anthony Perkins and Davy Jones (of the monkees) are Batman 1966's version of The Riddler, The Scarecrow and The Mad Hatter. I know the '66 show had David Wayne as The Mad Hatter, but he's not that exciting. So David Wayne is the imposter hatter and Davy Jones is the reason Hatter. Really, this is going to stay in my head as the Batman '66 version of these three forever. Frank Gorshin, Anthony Perkins and Davy Jones. I think it'd be a great pairing to have seen on stage together. They all seem like great performers. I think art of The Mad Hatter snd Scarecrow modelled after Davy Jones and Anthony Perkins would be great, honestly.
But Davy Jones had to be the Mad Hatter. Short and British, he even sort of sounds like Peter Macnicol doing The Mad Hatter for the batman arkham games. And also, well, daydream believer sounds like a Mad Hatter song. Soft yet almost ethereal, it's perfect. A batman 66 episode with the mad hatter would have to have that song worked in somehow (even if we just have the hatter humming it).
Riddler, talking to some random girl: And here's my number. Ha-ha!
Scarecrow: Do you just... walk around with your phone number pre-written on pieces of paper???
Riddler, smirking: Yep.
Scarecrow, rolling his eyes: Of course you do-
I had this idea in mind for a while and decided to try my hand at sketching my ideas down. Then posted it on another site, but decided to also put this here, because I figure some of you might be interested?
It’s important to note that these are based on the current concepts I have for my designs for them. Jervis is still in line for quite some change, especially in his outfit, so it might not end up looking like it does here. (I’ve also been considering making a few changes to Jonathan’s design, but that’s not concrete yet)
So, here they are, these three as anthro animals. (Inspired by Beastars/Beast complex, mostly. ...But also 'Batman vs the TMNT')
If you want to read a bit about these, feel free to do so:
Jonathan 'Scarecrow' Crane: Â Â Jonathan in this AU is a Arabian horse/Crocodile hybrid. As such, Arabians being as skinny as they are, coupled with the crocodile's typical appearance makes him incredibly unsettling to look at even before he hit puberty. Once puberty came, patches of his fur began to fall out, revealing patches of crocodile skin/scales underneath. I like to think his entire back is void of fur and covered with crocodile hide/spikes.
His ears are half torn due to his being a victim of Keeny's trained crows. I just find it a bit hard to believe that they wouldn't go after his ears in this AU seeing as they're so out in the open. Horse genetics and all.   I love how he came out here. He just has this unsettling appearance that really adds to his design I think. I also noticed while sketching him that he kind of looks like a dragon a little bit??? I didn't draw clothes on him mostly because I wanted a good look at how boney and angular he looks. And that HAND. I'm so proud of that hand. How spindly the fingers look, the scales on his face, the fur around the scaly patches. *Chef kiss* perfection. Super proud of how that came out. Â
Jervis ‘Mad Hatter’ Tetch:
I knew I wanted him to be a rabbit. That's the first thing. But instead of going the boring route of making him a pure white rabbit, I decided it would be neat to make him a harlequin. (Seeing as I wasn't going to make Harley into a rabbit, figured I might as well.) I also like the aesthetic that comes with the ears poking out of the hat brim, so I needed that in this picture for sure.
Not much to really say about this one, it's pretty straightforward.
Edward 'Riddler' Nygma: Â Â I decided on making him a lion because the 'pride' jokes were too good to pass up. (Though I also like to think he's actually a leopon, but pretends that he's a full-blooded lion.)
I- would hate to admit how long it took me to figure out how to draw his hat. Also lion faces are damn difficult to draw, lol. You can't tell me a Riddler lion wouldn't have his full head of mane just flowing over his shoulders like that. I refuse to believe that he would cut it short. Also, forgive me for how awful that ear jewelry looks, drawing stuff like that on animal ears is difficult to figure out.
I'm pretty happy with this one as well, not nearly as proud as Jonathan, but still pretty happy with it.

Edward: The rule is no Ex's talk though, it just triggers-
Jervis, with anguish: AAAALLLIIIICCCE!
Edward: Just promise the evening won't end with me in the middle stroking both your heads while you cry about Sherry and Alice.
Jonathan, deadpan: I make no promises.
Edward: -We should probably stop staring before this gets creepy.
Jonathan: Too late.
*Jervis and Edward look over and see Jonathan on the other end of the table*
Jonathan: You two are losers.
Jervis: Well Then, why do you sit with us?
Jonathan: Because I don't have any friends.
Me: *Just chilling, feeding into my batman hyper-fixation*
Me: *Sees some people posting autistic headcanons about batman characters*
Me: That's pretty cool. I wouldn't mind seeing an interpretation with a few of them being autistic at some point.
My brain: Which ones, though?
Me: I dunno, one could make an argument for just about any of them, really. Autism is such a varied thing that the mold could fit easily onto a lot of characters, I imagine.
My brain: Some people are headcanon-ing Riddler as autistic.
Me: I can see that. Some versions more than others though.
My brain: What about the other two members of the dork squad?
Me: I guess? They certainly have their hyperfixations, and they display some traits that you could tie to Autism-
Me: ...Oh shit.
And that's how I ended up with the autistic dork squad headcanon. All three of them.
You know what they say, 'birds of a feather flock together'.
