I want to write a book called “your character dies in the woods” that details all the pitfalls and dangers of being out on the road & in the wild for people without outdoors/wilderness experience bc I cannot keep reading narratives brush over life threatening conditions like nothing is happening.
I just read a book by one of my favorite authors whose plots are essentially airtight, but the MC was walking on a country road on a cold winter night and she was knocked down and fell into a drainage ditch covered in ice, broke through and got covered in icy mud and water.
Then she had a “miserable” 3 more miles to walk to the inn.
Babes she would not MAKE it to that inn.
But still interested in feeding yourself? What if I told you that there’s a woman with a blog who had to feed both herself and her young son…on 10 British pounds ($15/14 Euro) per week?
Let me tell you a thing.
This woman saved my life last year. Actually saved my life. I had a piggy bank full of change and that’s it. Many people in my fandom might remember that dark time as when I had to hock my writing skills in exchange for donations. I cried a lot then.
This is real talk, people: I marked down exactly what I needed to buy, totaled it, counted out that exact change, and then went to three different stores to buy what I needed so I didn’t have to dump a load of change on just one person. I was already embarrassed, but to feel people staring? Utter shame suffused me. The reasons behind that are another post all together.
AgirlcalledJack.com is run by a British woman who was on benefits for years. Things got desperate. She had to find a way to feed herself and her son using just the basics that could be found at the supermarket. But the recipes she came up with are amazing.
You have to consider the differing costs of things between countries, but if you just have three ingredients in your cupboard, this woman will tell you what to do with it. Check what you already have. Chances are you have the basics of a filling meal already.
Here’s her list of kitchen basics.
Bake your own bread. It’s easier than you think. Here’s a list of many recipes, each using some variation of just plain flour, yeast, some oil, maybe water or lemon juice. And kneading bread is therapeutic.
Make your own pasta–gluten free.
She gets it. She really does. This is the article that started it all. It’s called “Hunger Hurts”.
She has vegan recipes.
A carrot, a can of kidney beans, and some cumin will get you a really filling soup…or throw in some flour for binding and you’ve got yourself a burger.
Don’t have an oven or the stove isn’t available? She covers that in her Microwave Cooking section.
She has a book, but many recipes can be found on her blog for free. She prices her recipes down to the cent, and every year she participates in a project called “Living Below the Line” where she has to live on 1 BP per day of food for five days.
Things improved for me a little, but her website is my go to. I learned how to bake bread (using my crockpot, but that was my own twist), and I have a little cart full of things that saved me back then, just in case I need them again. She gives you the tools to feed yourself, for very little money, and that’s a fabulous feeling.
Tip: Whenever you have a little extra money, buy a 10 dollar/pound/euro giftcard from your discount grocer. Stash it. That’s your super emergency money. Make sure they don’t charge by the month for lack of use, though.
I don’t care if it sounds like an advertisement–you won’t be buying anything from the site. What I DO care about is your mental, emotional, and physical health–and dammit, food’s right in the center of that.
If you don’t need this now, pass it on to someone who does. Pass it on anyway, because do you REALLY know which of the people in your life is in need? Which follower might be staring at their own piggy bank? Trust me: someone out there needs to see this.

A small group of super-powered kids and teens are forced to fight for their lives after an evil corporation known as Xen-Vulleriss invades locks down and kills all the adults in their small island town. Xen-Vulleriss is drawn to the town by the youngest of the kids accidentally using his devastating power at school during an altercation with some school staff resulting in the kid being taken into custody and placed in the local lock-up. During the night Xen-Vulleriss invades in hopes of capturing the all super-powered kids in the town. Xen-Vulleriss proceeds to kill all the adults in town leaving it up to the older kids in the town to protect the younger kids as they try to escape their island home and go get help from the outside world. At the end of the story, the group of survivors will make discoveries that will change the course of human history forever as dark truths are revealed and mysterious events begin to play out on a global scale.
This story is intended to be part of an ever-expanding cinematic universe that deals heavily with ideas and themes ranging from Multiversal conflict and inter-dimensional travel to concepts such as aliens and eldritch gods. Themes regarding the LGBTQIA+ community will also play a heavy role in this cinematic multiverse.

This is what it would look like if you were training to #BeAnAstronaut! Astronaut candidates must train for two years before they become official NASA astronauts. After graduation, you can look forward to more skill building when training for upcoming missions. Let’s dive into some of the courses you can expect once you’re selected for the job:
All astronaut candidates must learn to safely operate in a T-38 jet, either as a pilot or crew. Because this is the one area of their training that is not a simulation and involves decisions with life or death consequences, it teaches them to think quickly and clearly in dynamic situations.
Geology training courses are specially tailored to the work astronauts will do from the International Space Station or on the next interplanetary mission! Astronauts learn the basic principles of geology, see rocks in their natural environment and handle samples from their class discussions. It’s less like memorizing the names of rocks and more like learning how geologists think and work.
Before they end up in space, astronauts carry out a significant portion of their training in aircraft on Earth. It's unlikely, but possible, that one of those training planes could crash in a remote area and leave the humans on board to fend for themselves for a while. Knowing how to take care of their basic needs would be invaluable. Through the exercises, instructors hope to instill self-care and self-management skills, to develop teamwork skills, and to strengthen leadership abilities – all of which are valuable for working in the isolation of the wild or the isolation of space.
Astronauts participate in a variety of extreme environment training to prepare for the stresses of spaceflight. Pictured here, they are exploring the underground system of the Sa Grutta caves in Sardinia, Italy as a part of the European Astronaut Centre’s Cooperative Adventure for Valuing and Exercising human behavior and performance Skills (CAVES) expedition. Seasoned astronauts as well as rookies participate in the course and share experiences while learning how to improve leadership, teamwork, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
In our Virtual Reality Laboratory training facility at Johnson Space Center astronauts are able to immerse themselves in virtual reality to complete mission tasks and robotic operations before launching to space. The facility provides real time graphics and motion simulators integrated with a tendon-driven robotic device to provide the kinesthetic sensation of the mass and inertia characteristics of any large object (<500lb) being handled.
Make sure to follow us on Tumblr for your regular dose of space: http://nasa.tumblr.com

I didn’t write for a while, it is hard work using my brain to the extent that I do so time off is necessary, as any hyper vigilant person may already know... and for the record, I am playing with this “great die out” in the title. You should know that I classify those using phrases like “the great reset, the great bla bla, etc” as radicalised people.
I want to write about our ongoing, and in my view, dangerous journey that is deepening into the world of single mindedness.
By single mindedness, what I mean is the one track, intolerant, anti diversity that our brains appear to be being trained into, by what often traces back to source as social media.
It doesn't only track back to social media, it also tracks back to certain public speakers, those of which who rightly so, hold their own beliefs and value set in the world, but instead of keeping those various laundries at home on the drying rail amongst friends and family sharing a cup of tea and a biscuit, they are taken out in front of great audiences both in person and online, with the intention of letting people know that their view is the only one that matters.
The problem with that is where some people in the audience have a tendency towards hate, and in many ways would like to act out that hate as a form of completion in their lives to please a specific person, being, or god. They really just want to please themselves.
Beliefs of people are one thing, but when they are pushed upon others as the “right” way above others personal will, then what we are dealing with is a person who wants to radicalise others into their own ideas about how life is to be lived.
Most of the obvious people who do this in the public eye are acting under the guise of religion. They are permitted to be there because they tout the religion as the reasoning behind their thinking, but looking at them all it is easy to see they are simply incredibly old fashioned. They, powerless in a rapidly changed, and still changing world, are struggling to grasp with the realities that they now find themselves in and perhaps have deep, survival based needs to make the modern world that they now find themselves in even more evil than it ever has been.. even though we come from a time where the iron age was probably as gruesome as it gets, and open incest is catalogued in their written histories.
Despite all of our efforts to be beautiful in the world, inclusive and if we like, engaging in of all of our individual, creative worlds, hate will preside both in the overground and the underground, but at least in one projection I can see high potential for the old fashioned overground to simply die out as the arrow of time continues to direct us all ever onward, and onward’s :)
Public speakers who preach hate trickle down their one track ideas to the next generations, but the beauty is that each generation waters it down before the hate it becomes nothing, non existent.
May you all be beautifully blessed, and sending extra massive love to the trans community and all those creating with genders, non genders, roles, and identities right now.
Events that cause us fear, suffering, and threat to our lives leave a strong, everlasting mark. Either consciously or subconsciously, what is recorded plays back over and over again given the correct environment that makes the connection and presses the play button. We have recorded some information, but not all of it is of happy memories.
I was fascinated with the fact that I could record something on a cassette tape when I was little. I found it amazing, and those in my family did not share the same complete astoundment that I felt when I discovered that I was able to record sound, my voice and the voices in my surroundings on a cassette tape.
Now much older, I have decided that there is a recording nature in literally everything, from various crystals to the tiniest atoms, and the main point that I am getting to, our brains.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is the unwanted intrusion of some of the more challenging recordings that we have collected along the way. It isn’t the upsurge of happy memories, but rather the deeply ingrained bad memories and traumas that we might prefer to ignore or forget.
Sometimes in PTSD, emotions become uncontrollable, which is the distinguishing factor that makes it Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. CPTSD makes it even more difficult to navigate the world, let alone face and move on from the memories that keep intruding.
Every episode pops up like a “surprise motherfucker” moment. Choice in shelving it for later on? forget it. PTSD and CPTSD is instant like that, and there is no going back until some sort of retreat and processing can be taken.
I sometimes like to think of PTSD and CPTSD as an overloaded cassette tape. This idea does not work out in rational reality since you cannot overload recordings on a cassette, it just stops each side, but the recording nature of the human brain is different. It certainly has much more capacity than a cassette tape, and in some ways, it may well be infinite, until physicality for the brain ceases to exist at least.
Studies show that predatory induced fear causes PTSD like changes in the brains and behaviour of wild animals. The article goes on to say that:
“Retaining a powerful enduring memory of a life-threatening predator encounter is thus clearly evolutionarily beneficial if it helps the individual avoid such events in the future3,4,8. Contemplating this, in light of the many PTSD-like changes manifest in laboratory rodents in response to predator-induced fear19, has prompted a growing number of biomedical researchers to propose3,5,6,7,9,10,11 that “PTSD is the cost of inheriting an evolutionarily primitive mechanism that considers survival more important than the quality of one’s life”12. In this view, PTSD-like changes in the brain and behaviour are not unnatural or “maladaptive”, but are rather evolutionary adaptations which entail costs, such as “hypervigilance”12,19,20 and the avoidance of trauma-related cues19, that provide the benefit of increasing the probability of survival, by increasing the likelihood of detecting a life-threatening danger (hypervigilance), and reducing the probability of encountering one (avoidance).”
Powerful memories that do not let us forget are the one’s that will help keep us safe in future times. Sometimes PTSD and CPTSD is making a faulty connection, because the situation that we are in can replay events so vividly where there really is no harm to come, but in the event of future run in’s with exceptionally predatory people, of which there are many + more growing with the generational learning created through the use of social media, PTSD and CPTSD serve as an evolutionary stage in learning that will absolutely help me in moving onward in my life at least.
The ability to record things is amazing, in whatever medium. I now have a new understanding of PTSD and CPTSD and how we learn by what we live. There is cost, but I am more than happy to pay for what I need.
Be happy :-)

One of the nurses of the hospital teached her black magic, she learned how to do hexes, cartomancy, necromancy and even blood and chaos magic.
At 12, her grandparents took costudy of her but they are very negligent, they left her alone for days, forget about her meds, etc.
She also has severe anxiety, she is bullied by half of the kids of the school and the other half are afraid of her because she always gets revenge.
The apocalipse started when she was running away, she managed to survive for 6 months until she got kidnaped by a group of survivors.
She is very quiet and sarcastic, most people doesn't know when she is saying the truth or not.
Curious fact: Maggie has an older brother who she knows nothing about, he runned away at 13, before she was born.

Lately have been obsessed with zombie survival
Survival tactics for the Apocalypse I just happen to know. Keep in mind, these apply for zombies and just a good old social collapse.
Wear denim and leather, or some types of strong military fabrics. Strong, alive human teeth can’t bite through those materials, so I doubt a zombie with rotting, dead teeth can.
Gas.Goes.Bad. I don’t understand how people are using cars like 10 years into the apocalypse, when gas will go bad after about 3-6 months, and diesel will last roughly a year.
Medicine expires! It doesn’t last for all eternity. It does remain usable, but gets weaker the longer it expires.
BRACES. If you have them, I’m sorry, but unless you find someone, somehow, to get them off, You’re pretty much screwed.
You won’t always be able to brush your teeth, sorry :,)
Your clothes will stink. You will stink. Everything will stink. Even if there aren’t zombies, there will be dead animals and people everywhere.
If you need insulin or any other type of refrigerated medicines, I’m sorry, but you’re out of luck.
Asthmatic people, including myself, will have to be super careful when it comes to losing our breath, literally.
If you need any type of blood pressure pills, or heart medicines, you’re also out of luck.
PERIODS! Blood attracts the zombies, so you’re screwed while you have pads and tampons, and even more screwed when you run out.
Guns jam and misfire, especially when not cared for properly.
Swinging a bat or a sword takes a lot of energy and stamina, and you won’t always get a one hit kill.
Canned food expires.
You want to hunt? Each time you’ll have to go out further due to exhausting the game in your area.
Never use a knife with a serrated edge on a zombie. It’ll get stuck in the bone.
Never use a knife with a serrated edge for a rib cut, cause it’ll get lodged between the bones.
Don’t pull your gun on someone who’s ready. You won’t be able to ready, aim, fire before the person shoots you first.
If you can’t hit the head, aim for the neck as well, especially if using a shotgun or high power rifle. You might be able to take off the head that way.
Human kills don’t always have to be headshots. Center mass works well.
If you’re dealing with 28 days later zombies, or The Last of Us infected, multiple body shots will take them down, as they are still alive, but a headshot will work best, and wastes less ammo.
If you’re dealing with The Walking Dead’s walkers, a headshot is the only way to put them down.
For all living things: Kill the head, the body will die.
You will not get a headshot every time. You’ll miss a lot, especially when you first start learning to shoot.
Your femoral artery is located in your upper thigh, near the groin. Try not to nick it, you’ll bleed out before anyone can even think of the proper medical response.
Remember when using knives, get one with a grip. When blood pours down the handle, the knife will become slippery and you will drop it or be unable to retrieve it.
Not all handguns use the same ammo! If you want an easily accessible gun, go for a Ruger SR22. You should be able to find them at Walmart, and their ammo is also sold at Walmart.
Keep in mind, ammo, canned foods, medicines, gas and guns are gonna be the first things to go, ergo the hardest to find.
If you have zip ties around your wrists, try to move your arms up, then jerk down and out. Repeat a couple times and they should snap.
Cold weather should stop zombies quickly, as they have no pumping/flowing blood to keep them moving.
Libraries will have books and manuals about agriculture, carpentry, mechanics, fishing, hunting, butchering and other survival things. USE THEM!
If you’re going to loot, don’t only check the obvious places. Check everywhere. A sales executive’s office may reward you with a bottle of Tylenol. A soccer mom’s van can wield granola and water bottles. A gym rat’s locker can give you protein.
Peanut butter. That’s all.
Don’t use them same knife you use to kill zombies to open your canned food. That’s gross as hell man :/
Some household cleaning products have explosive reactions when mixed together.
If you melt styrofoam it becomes homemade napalm.
High schools and colleges will not only have fully stocked pantries and nurse’s offices, but check their chemistry labs. You might find chemicals that can be made into explosives. If not, you can look at textbooks and find out which chemicals react in which ways.
If you find a school that has fences, use it! Football fields can be turned into gardens and livestock areas. The roof becomes a watchtower. The classrooms all lock, and there should be keys to all of them in the principals office or janitors closet. personal apartments, safety for the group. And no one really ever thinks to go to a school.
First place people think to go when a virus breaks out? the hospital, grocery stores, or highways to get the hell out of dodge. Avoid these places like the plague, literally. Wait for a few months until the elements and time have taken a toll on the corpses that most likely infest these places. Then try to scope them out. Never go alone, and never go in blind.
Museums should have seeds and such, especially if they have a horticultural division. Find these seeds, and use them.
A crossbow is not a good weapon. While it helps with the stealth option, it takes far too long to reload your bolts. That, along with the fact that a crossbow is so powerful, the bolt will most likely go straight through a rotted skull and lodge in the wall behind, or just get lodged in a fresh enough skull.
Farms. If the owners are dead? Oh no, its sad, yes, but now you have a farm to your advantage. Most farmers will have home canned goods, backup generators, gas stored in the barn, animals like cows (milk and beef are two different types, keep that in mind) Chickens (Try only eating designated meat chickens, as they will have more meat on them and you need layers for eggs) goats (again, meat and milk are two different types, and make sure to keep bucks and does separate or the milk will come out tasting like male goats, yuck.) Pigs, and more. They will also have crops and other things you may find helpful, especially their tractors when it comes time to plant new crops.
Corn can be used to make Ethanol.
Farms also have the luxury of being fenced in. Reinforce these fences if you can.
Dig pits for zombies to fall into, and go out regularly to dispose of them so they don’t stink up the place.
The Amish will most likely have no idea whats going on until its too late, due to their lack of technology. This is horribly sad, as most Amish families consist of the parents, their elderly parents, and anywhere from 1-15 kids. While sad, this also means these house will be stocked with food and medical supplies. And while you wont have the luxury of using a generator for electricity, All Amish homes have access to kerosene for lamps, along with access to a Well and Outhouses.
While you may have access to a generator, only use it sparingly and only if you’re isolated. Noise attracts zombies and worse, other people.
Don’t use your gun on group of zombies less than 5. They’re slow, and clumsy, and the sound of a gun will only attract more. Again, sound=bad. Wrap duct tape around your ankles, so no crawlers can get you.
Wrap duct tape around your arms. Nothing can bite you as you hold it off.
BE careful at night. Most zoos will let all of their animals free if something like this happens so they have a fair chance of survival. Lions, bears, hyenas, cheetahs, and more just got added to your ever growing list of enemies.
Stay away from Military sites unless you scope them out. Most will shoot on sight, as they do not want the infection to spread.
If the Site is abandoned, check it out before sending people in. I know the idea of seemingly endless MRE’s, Medications, Guns, and ammo seems like a dream come true, but these places will most likely be infested.
If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
Sneak around. Don’t attack zombies or people unless you absolutely have to.
Try going to Military academies. Most times, the cadets will be called to become a line of defense for the nearest city, town, etc. They should still have plenty of guns, ammo, food, and gear that can aid you, along with the bonus of most of them having tall walls.
Try not to use riot gear. I’m not saying don’t, but limit your usage of it, especially if where you’re located is hot. The gear, while extremely beneficial on terms of safety, makes you slower, less articulate, and you will overheat fast.
Black clothing attracts the sun, white reflects it.
This isnt a movie. You aren’t going to waltz around in booty shorts and tank tops and look all sexy while you survive. The first time you stick your arm out first as your turn a corner a zombie will grab you and take a bite out of your uncovered arm. Same goes for you, guys. Wear a belt, don’t sag your jeans. You’ll trip. Don’t wear anything that leaves you revealed to snappy jaws or wandering hands.
Cut your hair short, dont wear loose clothing, and dont wear jewelry. You will get snagged or grabbed, then boom, game over.
If you find a multitude of supplies, don’t take it all. Someone else may need something too.
Don’t trust little kids right off the bat, they could be being used as bait.
You aren’t gonna have a curvy, model body, sorry to disappoint women out there. You’re mostly likely gonna look like an anorexic person, due to your lack of constant food supply.
You can go 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food.
Stay away from carbs, they only give short busts of energy.
After roughly 72 hours without sleep, you will begin to hallucinate. Try to catch a few hours whenever you can.
Stay away from densely populated areas, including the suburbs, sixties, large towns, and highways. Smaller towns and isolated shops/gas stations should be on the safer side.
Your car will need work, and will probably need its oil changed. While it’s still working, that is.
Crotch shots work for women just as much as they do for men.
If hitting a deer or raccoon messes up your car, imagine the damage hitting a full grown zombie or human will do.
belt yourself into a tree. It’s not comfortable, but you won’t be zombie bait. On that note, try to conceal yourself in branches so wandering zombies or people dont group around your tree for a surprise party when you wake up.
!!!A HUMAN BITE IS JUST AS DEADLY AS A ZOMBIE BITE!!!
Head wounds bleed more than any other small wounds.
Don’t let your wounds get infected. It will mostly likely kill you.
People are worse than the undead. They can think, and plan ahead. They can do coordinated attacks, and they can trick you if you let your guard down. Remember, Trust no one, suspect everyone.
Sincerely, a 19 year old girl who is obsessed with zombie movies/shows and survival.
went kitesurfing today with my family, like most days
everything was fine until I, very gracefully, launched myself full speed toward the edge of the beach
which, fun fact, is not soft sand
no
it’s coral
sharp, evil coral
couldn’t stop
my kite was like “lol no brakes for you”
so i got dragged over rocks and coral like a bargain bin action figure
so now my right leg is super swollen, covered in scrapes and those gross skin-tearing lines that look like i got attacked by a cheese grater (idk how else to describe them lol)
left knee? busted open like it was auditioning for a gore movie and would. not. stop. bleeding.
now it’s mummified in bandages like i’m trying out for The Mummy reboot
my back is also half torn up and covered in scrapes
lowkey looks like i got mauled by a bear
and i’m currently giving rainbow realness thanks to the stunning collection of bruises i’ve got going on
10/10 beach day
highly recommend
Environmentalism is really about seeing our place in the world in a way that humans have always known up until very recently - that we are part of nature - utterly dependent on the natural world for our well being and survival.

I’m gonna try streaming some Minecraft later
When I get the little ones to bed I’m gonna try streaming some Minecraft. I have a paid survival server setup w/ Fabric and some mods.
The other night I ran through the nether and portaled into an arctic biome. I made a house, died, and corpse walked back to the arctic house. It wasn’t as far as I expected so I kept pushing north then got lost and found a broken portal that I rebuilt.
If anyone knows how to make a map of the server any help would be appreciated.
When buried six feet down, without a coffin, in ordinary soil, an unembalmed adult normally takes eight to twelve years to decompose to a skeleton. However if placed in a coffin the body can take many years longer, depending on type of wood used. For example a solid oak coffin will hughly slow down the process.
Assuming everyone is buried without a coffin and in normal soil, there would be 31517016 zombies purely risen from the dead. You would be wondering why 31517016 zombies, the math is, 2626418 is the average number of people dieing per annum and 12 is the number for years (maximum) for a body to decompose, 2626418 × 12 = 31517016 All the dead people buried before 12 years ago, would have already decompose and will not be considered undead. So with 7 Billion living humans (with modern technology) verses 31517016 undead classic zombies, who as slow, witless and only react to sound, We can survive a zombie apocalypse with ease.
BUT
If the undead is considered to be all the dead people till now, that would be 107 billion zombie against 7 billion zombie. Making that around 15 zombies for every 1 living human. The chances of surviving is slim.
Anyway that’s why you wear wool and a life jacket babeeeyyyy
So, I made a short video about a friend and i's Minecraft world so far.

A free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.
But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.
The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.
But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.
One day you wake up and you live alone, even with two flatmates, and you buy your own groceries, when you can afford it, and you go to class and work and sometimes the gym. And you go to the doctor, and the dentist, and your therapist and your friend’s house, and you take the medicine that keeps you from killing yourself, and you get out in the sunshine and eat food that fills you and make barely enough money to stay alive anyway, and someday will be better, you know that, but someday isn’t today, and today your jaw is clenched and your thoughts are shrieks that hate your friends and someday will be better, but right now it’s all you can do to make ramen so you don’t have to use a knife because someday will be better and you better be around to see it, and your clenched jaw turns to gritted teeth and you can’t bring yourself to shower but damnit, you brush your teeth and think that someday will be better, and your gums bleed when you floss and you want to scream but you’ve been stopped up like a forgotten bottle of wine and you’re not sure you know how to anymore, and now you’ve been staring at your bleeding gums and the void in your gut aches and you --
collapse in bed.
You remember how to breathe.
Your heart is here. Your lungs are here. There is quiet between your thoughts.
You are here.
And someday will be better.
Hey guys. So, I lied about getting off socials LOL I really need to go full on film theory here and talk about the fall. I do want to preface though and say that I am not a woman of science (I’m an art girlie), therefore I won’t be able to make any sort of proper calculations. Without further ado, I’m going to break down the whole fall and discuss how Tech could’ve and probably did survive.
First and foremost, I want to go back and take a look at the most clear shot given to viewers of the height between the tram system and the perceived ground level. In this picture, we get a brief glimpse from Wrecker’s POV of how far down it is from the trams.
While it looks quite high, considering they are practically in the clouds, it is important to note the amount of foliage this planet has; a vast amount large trees, specifically tall pine trees.
These types of trees are not uncommon in biomes that include bodies of water. Consider the images below.
While it is not definitive, it can be safe to assume that there could have been a stream or body of water below in that valley. However, even if this was not the case, the trees are large enough that they can dampen a fall, even if it is from a great height. This leads me to my next point:
How high of a fall can humans survive?
An NCBI article covers the case of a rock climber who had fallen from a total of 300 feet and survived. Though she suffered many severe injuries, she was able to recover after extensive medical care. According to this article, the way in which a person falls is imperative to survival. In particular, if a person is falling vertically, they can survive an average fall height of 23 feet and 7 inches (7.2 meters) with minor to moderate injury. Survivable injuries have a threshold of around 20-25 feet. Yet the rock climber was able to survive at even greater heights. That being said, according to an article by Arnold & Atkin Trial Lawyers, 20 feet and below can still prove to be fatal. Moreover, fatal falls usually are between 21 and 40 feet. Considering all the information thus far, it would seem that Tech is exceptionally fucked. But stay with me folks, I’m not done cooking yet.
While it is not common, humans have, in fact, survived free falls at extreme heights. Take for example Vesna Vulović, a Serbian flight attendant who holds the Guinness world record for surviving the highest freefall without a parachute: 33,330 feet (10,160 meters). She was in a coma for days and spent several months hospitalized. She suffered a fractured skull, three broken vertebrae, broken legs, broken ribs, and a fractured pelvis, leaving her temporarily paralyzed from the waist down. Despite all of this, she made a nearly complete recovery, only continuing to walk with a limp.
In another case, Nicholas Alkemade, a British tail gunner of the Royal Air Force during World War II, survived a freefall of 18,000 feet (5, 490 meters). His fall was broken by pine trees and a soft snow cover on the ground.
While the first case can be safely considered as a miracle, it's the second case that is interesting. The pilot survived a freefall from a height he should’ve died from. Yet, due to the large trees and the snow on the floor, his fall was cushioned and allowed for him to survive.
Now, taking what we discussed and applying it to the Star Wars universe, the chances of Tech surviving is definitely in our favour. Firstly, we know there is a lot of foliage (bushes, grass, etc.), and there are also massive trees. But we must remember that this isn’t just some random, unprepared person that is falling. This is Tech, a highly skilled, highly intelligent, and well equipped clone trooper. It is also important to mention that he is wearing a helmet and a chest plate, which provides protection to critical body parts. Knowing him, Tech could have very well put his gear to use and used a grappling hook to attach to a tree and create momentum from his fall to swing onto the ground. He could have also gotten into the falling tram and found a way to cushion his fall. But let’s say he does neither of these things (perhaps due to the speed at which he was falling), Tech can still survive if he falls vertically into the pine trees and foliage, which will cushion his fall, just like Nicholas Alkemade and the rock climber, respectively.
Furthermore, based on all that has been discussed and considered, the chances of survival of a freefall from that height, while seemingly impossible, is in fact, possible and likely.
