Same, i did not enjoy Vengeful in the same degree i did Vicious. Marcella and June had great backstories, but their use in the story felt weak. I would have ADORED to see much more Evervale flashbacks and an actual conversation. If they'd imprisioned both at some point and they'd bonded over that once again like in the old times I would have definitely lost my mind. The developement from that would have been insane. And, maybe unpopular opinion, but death trope was such a good option for BOTH Eli and Victor. Just for the symbolism of it. It would have been brilliant.

I just do not like the marcella and june chapters lol. marcella’s girlbossing and june’s… whatever she does… isn’t as good as the toxic evervale obsession plotline. NOTHING will ever be as compelling as that. it is the foundation of the whole series and there wasn’t enough of it in vengeful!
honestly I think I just need to annotate the book so I can find all the good parts more easily. because there are some lines that make me go insane
My favorite part of Vengeful was reading about Eli's backstory and more about his mind. I love how complex and multilayered all the Villains duology characters are (and when i mean all, i mean the OGS. I did not like the others tbh). That boy went through hell and back and I sort of felt it then, but never truly imagined it. I absolutely despise Haverty.
The gala scene lives rent free in my head. Kudos to anyone if they can recognize which part of the fight this is from.

Stell caught his shoulder. “Where are you going?”
“To get you a gun.” Eli nodded at Marcella’s security, all dressed in trim black suits. “Haven’t you noticed? The guests may not be allowed to carry, but her men certainly are.”
Stell didn’t let go.
“At some point,” said Eli calmly, “you have to let out my leash.”
The director stared at him for a long, hard moment, and then his hand finally fell away. Eli turned and slipped through the crowd, trailing one of the security guards as they split off down a hall toward the bathroom. Eli followed him in, watched the guard vanish into a stall waited for another man at the sink to finish washing up and leave. Eli slid the bolt in the man’s wake, and approached the stall door.
It swung open, and Eli slammed his shoe into the guard’s chest, sent him reeling back into the wall. Eli caught him by the tie before he could fall, drew the guard’s holstered gun, and pressed it tight to his chest to muffle the shots.
Eli eased the body back onto the seat.
It had been a long time since he killed a human. But forgiveness would have to wait.

V.E Schwab writes such dynamic and complex characters that are so unforgettable. Like they have so much range and spice to them,, they're just *chef's kiss*
I often find myself thinking about the gay little family in Vicious and the nerdy little romantics in Addie Larue and the bisexual Slytherpuffs in Shades of Magic. I wish I could give Kell, Lila, Addie, Henry, Victor, Syd, Mitch, Eli and Rhy a little forehead kiss and protect them.
