nothing is more fun that creating OC’s who have relationships with characters that would need to be wildly out of character in order to ever give a fuck about them in the slightest. Like wdym Hua Cheng is nice to my silly little OC because he’s small and sells weeds by the road in ghost city like a street urchin. He would not fucking say that (affectionate)
Ykw I usually praise franchises for the fact that a trans character will be trans and nobody will make a big deal about it, but I’m actually quite married to the fact that tgcf doesn’t hesitate to show that being trans actually does suck through Shi Qingxuan (and yes, sqx is trans, eat my ass). It wasn’t some individual scene that tries to hammer down intense and violent trans suffering as hard-hittingly as humanly possible, to the point of triggering trauma, just to never bring it up again like most shows- it’s more subtle than that. Shi Qingxuan is frequently subtly mocked for switching between genders. Their brother scolds them publicly for being in their female form and demands they switch back. People frequently make fun of them for being ‘shameless’ and imply that they’re just a cross dresser. They’re never bothered by it, and never bring it up. They’re perfectly content with their existence, if a little intimidated by their brother. That’s such a nice portrayal of things like this. Sometimes transphobia isn’t violence or slurs, sometimes it’s subtle snideness and the bare minimum of respect. Mxtx doesn’t shy away from these topics, but doesn’t exaggerate them cruelly either (mind you, I’m not sure how deliberate this representation is on their part). They’re portrayed in a realistically subtle way.

I need a fanfic where Qi Rong actually does what he says he’s gonna. Beats the shit out of everyone at mt. Tong’lu and becomes the Ghost King. Torments the heavens eternally. Reigns unopposed as a tyrant over mortals. Raises Guzi the whole time cause he’s a good father thank you very much. Passes weird-ass laws. Starts wars with everyone who he can think to fight. Ends up hating it and making ghosts who know what they’re doing do all the diplomacy and rule-making while he runs around scaring people, lording his power, and telling his son exaggerated stories about his accomplishments. Idk I love him and if he wants to take over the world he should be allowed to. As a treat.
How I see the tgcf timeline as someone who hasn’t gotten far enough to have my theories proved or not
(Note: this is based on what little evidence I’ve been given and mostly fandom spoilers)
Sp firstly, Jun Wu is a dope ass prince but has his kingdom all die to a volcano (I think) and ends up living what is basically a parallel to Xie Lian’s life (will touch on that later) but ends up becoming the emperor of heaven and just all around a real ominous dude. Before that, he became that half-smiley half-frowny dude (white-clothed calamity I think? Or, he might have just dressed up as that during the fall of Xianle? Idk yet)
He uses his little heaven binoculars or something and sees that Xie Lian is living his best life in Xianle and is an incredibly dope ass prince, just like JW was when he was alive mortal so JW decided to go ‘Haha kin’ and ruin his entire life because ‘Body in abyss mind in paradise’ or whatever the fuck his saying is (I think it’s actually cause he’s a bitch but whatever). Xie Lian has the worst life humanly (godly?) possible after that and also almost becomes a calamity but doesn’t for some reason idk. Then he gets banished and then ascends a second time, during which he lasts a whole thirty seconds as a god and gets turned into sort of (sword of haha) a pincushion (I’ll see myself out) and then banished again. Then he ascends a third time and the Story starts, and he ends up getting a ghost boyfriend who had the hots for him cause he caught him one time when he yeeted himself off a building. Eventually HC fucking dies somehow, idk how that happens. Qi Rong gets turned into a lamp somehow and now Guzi is traumatised (I think it was Lang Qianqiu (Who has a tiger for some reason btw) who did it?Fuck if I know. Also right before getting lampified Qi Rong might take Jun Wu’s side in something he shouldn’t which I honestly can’t say is out of character cause he’s a little shit. Anyways)
After all the mt tong’lu shit (that’s where I’m at rn) I imagine everyone tries to beat the shit outta Jun Wu and that’s probably where Hua Cheng dies, but idk. Will update later when I can be bothered to read more.

Important calculations underway
look idk about y’all, but I think more people should focus on the nonsexual intimacy that makes up a lot of HuaLian’s relationship. Yeah they fuck and that’s cool, but I think we need more light on the fact that for most of their relationship, xl wasn’t comfortable with that. For a very long time, they existed in a nonsexual relationship (and while they weren’t an item for a lot of that, they were so fuckin domestic and unsubtly down bad that honestly I don’t think it makes a difference) and they were fully comfortable with that. I feel like so many people see even their earliest interactions and go ‘Haha these two wanted to fuck sooooooooo bad’ and that saddens me a little, because it almost 𝙙𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙨 the emotional closeness of the moments being focused on (especially since real emotional closeness during sex isn’t seen very often in a lot of fandom content). Draw them fucking all you want, but do your local asexual (me) a favour and please pay attention to how their relationship goes way deeper than that, and how relationships without sex hold just as much worth as ones with it. Xie Lian could politely go ‘I think I wanna top tonight’ in passing conversation and that man (ghost?) would go ‘Ok Gege :D I love you’ and then he’d happily get his back blown out, and he’d be arching the whole time. This fic was written as part of the TGCF Gotcha for Congo initiative! The request was a piece featuring Ling Wen and Bai Jin, perhaps a character study or a look at their relationship, romantic or otherwise. Ling Wen is one of my favourite side characters, and the whole ordeal with the Brocade Immortal intrigued me greatly since the beginning. To say I was over the moon when the revised edition deepened their story, and allowed us to have a glimpse of Bai Jin while he was still alive, is a severe understatement! I greatly enjoyed working on this little piece, and I hope you enjoy reading it as well.

His voice startles both Mu Qing and Feng Xin. Sabre looks at him too, stretching her strong neck slightly, maybe to sniff. Jun Wu doesn’t move to interact with her, so after a hesitant wag of tail, she sits down.
“It’s an Akita,” Mu Qing replies after a second. “Her name is Sabre.”

Even if they weren’t doing… whatever they’re doing, Xie Lian’s flimsy jacket has little to offer against the low temperature and strong winds awaiting them. Already quite familiar with the unpredictability of British weather, he packed a winter coat in his checked bag, but said checked bag got stuck or misplaced at some point along the way back, probably between Los Angeles and Chicago, and he doesn’t know if he’ll ever see it again (he doesn’t have high hopes).

Hua Cheng's packages keep getting delivered to his cute neighbour, which is all fine and dandy until some special toys get mixed in the mail! While Hua Cheng is the one who sees the contents of Xie Lian's discreet package in the fic, here we picture the opposite because Yaban's Doll Atelier can't afford Hua Cheng's modelling fees seeing Xie Lian's reaction in that scenario would've been very funny.
This set includes two labelled black boxes, two invoices, two receipts, one bottle of lube, a cock ring and the infamously dubbed "Colon Destroyer" with its remote controller. Hua Cheng did his best to conceal the fact that he opened Xie Lian's box, but you can see some traces of the debacle if you look carefully.
