I thought if I could redeem something in him I could redeem something in me, too. But I failed us both. He is not a project, and I cannot be healed vicariously. The only path we can take here, is forward.

With glass in our soles, tearing us apart and revealing us at the same time. Forward.

Dorian

Dorian

First, it’s amazing to me that I still don’t remember the TRUE title of this book. I always refer to it just as Dorian, then remember it’s Dorian Gray--completely forgetting it’s actually “The Picture of Dorian Gray”

I love this book so, so much. Forget the ridiculousness of homophobia in general and in the book, for Oscar Wilde to have written this book, have the visual degree he had, the understanding he had--it baffles and bothers me that people really considered anything else except for the pure genius that he was with this story and concerned themselves with other things.

First, for the story, the use of the painting and Dorian as a split between him and his soul is amazing. While he begins his journey with a great lack of understanding, it brings about the idea that without consequences many will go astray--while also pointing out that those who choose to put their value in images or status instead of nature and character are going to be missing the truth about people--warned by Sybil, the painting and Bail’s disbelief of the rumours

Secondly, Dorian’s journey over the 18 years that were inspired by Basil’s painting and Lord Henry’s small chat, along with Dorian’s lack of follow thru to stay with Sybil both before and after her death--what concerns me with this is the reflection that that at that point his fate is sealed. While later true, Dorian and the other characters take the easy way out and similarly to my first point go towards the path of least resistance--in more ways than one, regardless of the logic or lack of behind it.

Finally, and for me, the most awe-striking genius that I continue to be stunned by is the ending where Dorian meets his demise. While I know that our creativity comes from an inspiration within, the ending especially (along with the idea of the painting in general) was so ahead of its time. I am again in awe

Dolores Umbridge

Dolores Umbridge

I was wondering what I could write about what we learned from Umbridge, did I really need to write about all the characters, did I learn from them? How people in power can be corrupt and self-indulging, how people can use their greatest insecurities or fears and inner hate as a foundation against others, these are things we know already from life and can see from other characters so why write about her. Well, there are two things—one is just a quandary. It is interesting that as she became more and more in power, more absolute in her hatred of others that she also became more ‘polite’ (a false-politeness as most is) and more ‘girly’ focusing on a love of kittens, the color pink and attempts in being fragile. Why? She didn’t want to come across as fragile or dainty.

Secondly, there are many characters that are hated for the level of pain or evil they caused: the Dursleys, the Malfoys, Pettigrew, while Voldemort, Bellatrix and Umbridge are usually at the top and considered the worst, Voldemort has never been considered high above Umbridge in this aspect, and for many falls beneath her.  Here is the man who split his soul into seven pieces (then accidentally eight), had Cedric murdered just because he wasn’t useful (seriously, just knock him out), tried to kill a baby who might one day kill him (good job on that one), murdered his entire family (both sides), he’s just an evil guy. So how is he not automatically the big villain Umbridge is? Why is she even able to compete? It’s a personal opinion, and choice, and one that fluctuates for most. Umbridge is so hated I believe, because of how much power she was allowed to have, and how she was able to slip in, remain and grow within the Ministry and be seen as someone with intellect, someone who should be compassionate, engaging and encouraging was narrow-minded and without individuality. In comparison, Voldemort had to fight for his power and to promote his beliefs, and people fought against him and disrespected him for it. Being forced to respect either Umbridge or Voldemort will make them hated, but as Umbridge was considered by many adults as one of the ‘good guys’ or that her crimes and hatred against others weren’t important enough to be obliterated and that she was supported makes us hate her and the system more.

The respect, power and approval by the ‘good guys’ she was given is similar to my earlier point in how her affection for kittens and delicate things was in opposition, and a falsehood, of who she really was. I cannot speak for others, but I do feel that giving someone with the same hatred and cruelty in her as Voldemort, giving her the power and respect he wanted is what makes her so hated—what she does is approved and while teachers under Voldemort’s rule would torture students, they did it as it went against their beliefs and because that’s who they were. They didn’t pretend it was for the benefit of the other students or under the guise of someone else. With all her arrogance and self-importance, she really had no confidence or true pride.

They dont tell us this shit in school, it's never talked about- how is this never talked about?? I never knew these quotes, I should've gotten more into the true history of MLK. Lately, so many interesting things about him have came out. White people so scarcely realize our privileges. We don't have to worry about simply getting out of our doors safely. I'm glad I'm learning more about black history, learning things I was never told, learning history that was ignored by society and the school systems. Now, I'm not blaming the school systems for my lack of knowledge. I hope that things really do start to change, that people become more educated on these things and people's ignorant views and opinions change as well.

signed up for a rebellious child

signed up for a kid. in any way, shape, or form of being, it's your child, and you signed up for it.

And you are not:

Ayo this is kinda weird but I need to spread the word. In the book of revelation, in the Bible, it says we cannot know the day or the hour that Jesus will return, but I does give us a few things that need to happen first.

The Euphrates river will dry up (has happened)

Evil will increase in the earth (I'd say it is)

The nations of the world will rise up against Israel (this one makes me think we've got a few years left)

And we'll all be under one world government (I think there are more but I don't know them)

If the rapture comes and you're not ready, you're gonna go to a not-so-good place I think you know the name of, and you don't have forever. You can't get to heaven instead by being a good person. Even one sub is too many. The one and only way to get there is through Jesus. He came to Earth as a human and died for our sins on a cross, then rose again three days later and defeated death. The only way for a human to get to heaven is by deciding to trust that that really happened, that Jesus was the son of God, to accept that you're a sinner, and to accept the free gift of life and heaven from God. I know I'm not the best with words, but God is God, so maybe he can use this post. Try a local church. There's a really good Bible app called youversion and a website called gotquestions that can answer any question about the Bible. And there's also something in the Bible called the Romans road:

Romans 3:23 'for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.'

Romans 5:8 'but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.'

Romans 6:23 'for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.'

Romans 8:1 'there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 10:9 'that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.'

Please listen guys I don't want anybody to go to hell

Philosophy cut to the bone

All right, I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need ... fantasies to make life bearable.

No. Humans need fantasy to be human. To be the place where the falling angel meet the rising ape.

Tooth fairies? Hogfathers?

Yes. As practice. You have to start out learning to believe the little lies.

So we can believe the big ones?

Yes. Justice. Duty. Mercy. That sort of thing.

They're not the same at all!

Really? Then take the universe and grind it down to the finest powder and sieve it through the finest sieve and then show me one atom of justice, one molecule of mercy. And yet you act, like there was some sort of rightness in the universe by which it may be judged

Yes. But people have got to believe that or what's the point?

My point exactly.

A: Io direi nessuna.

B: Perché?

A: Perché tutte si dimenticano di vivere.

Before I delve into the issue of this, I need to discuss my pronouns discourse because this is important to what I want to say about this.

Preview:

(If you haven’t seen/heard about it yet, my pronouns are considered cultural appropriation because the word Fae comes from the Celtic people and therefore I can’t use them since I’m not Celtic, even though if you do your research, 1. The term didn’t even come from the Celts, and 2. most Celtic/Pagan people don’t care/like it when you use those pronouns???)

Anyways, onto the crux of the problem.

As someone who uses Fae/Faem, Fae/Faer, and She/Her,

I dealt with a few people who not only regards my pronouns as problematic because of the discourse, but also those same people who only ever uses the She/Her pronouns because I still present/align/identify with mostly feminine orientations.

Look, if I ever talk to you, one of my most repeated phrases would be “please use Fae/Faem (and/or Fae/Faer pronouns depending on my mood), those are my preferred pronouns! Though it’s okay to also use She/Her!”

But SOME people don’t understand the importance of me stressing that, instead opting to willingly ignore that and ONLY use that set.

I’m fine with that, I’m perfectly fine with being referred to as She/Her, although granted very annoyed.

But recently, it’s gotten to the point where I’m just straight up considering on ditching either all of my beloved pronouns sets, or one of them which then instantly gives me dysphoria because whenever I think about getting rid of one, let’s say one of my Fae sets, (that one is my MOST PREFERRED pronouns) it sets me off and instantly gets me into fight mode because I want those sets but my mind says “you can’t though, it’s not normal to society-”, and I hate it, I hate that I have to PROVE that I can use them, I hate that I have so much of cisheteronormative ideology shoved into my head from media and society as a whole.

I hate that I have to constantly correct/say to people to try to use ALL of my pronouns sets.

Like I understand if you don’t understand how to use it in conversations f2f and/or in text forms, or accidentally mess up with using them at first.

That’s understandable, it’s fine.

But I wished you TRY to use all of them for my sake. I wish you COULD use all of them, and you definitely could, but instead you choose the “easier option”.

Ignoring it.

That’s not flying by me anymore.

The only reason I’m adding my two cents here right now, is because I want to add my own opinion, my own beliefs into this mess because I think it should be said out loud for everyone to see and read over.

Please TRY.

Please TRY to use ALL of my pronouns.

It isn’t even that hard to just TRY.

Really, all you have to do is TRY to use all of my pronouns. If it’s really hard to get used to/understand, just ASK the person on how to use it and/or if they have links to HELP you on how to use them. I’m sure that person, as well as very much me, are more than willing to send those links/help out.

It isn’t that hard, go try it out yourself.

Sorry for the long mess of thoughts, gotta say it from my POV.

Thank you for reading all of this, enjoy your day/night.

- Seri’s Ted Talk.

Reminder that if someone uses multiple pronouns and one of them is usually associated with their agab, don't only use those and not alternate between the others, especially if the person in question has a preference for their other pronouns that aren't usually associated with their agab.

I feel like there's kind of this idea that "Oh x person uses pronouns that might be used on them because of the way they present or their agab, it technically isn't misgendering since they use those certain ones, so I'm just going to use the pronouns I "associate" the most with them!" Like no. Use those pronouns because that's their pronouns. If a gnc/queer woman is using he/him and she/her, use both and if they have a preference for one, use that certain set more. Regardless of how YOU personally feel about them.

Same goes out to she/her and he/him gnc/gay men. Use people's pronouns because that's what they want, that's what makes them comfortable, and you should respect that. Don't let your internal biases get in the way of that. Folks like me who use multiple pronouns, notice when someone uses one set more than the other because they probably have a set image of me in their head that mostly feels akin to misgendering me and or misinterpreting my identity and why I use the pronouns that I do.

Stop assuming things about people. She/her simply is she/her. Same goes for he/him. They/them. It/its. Etc. Literally NONE of those equal a certain gender, alignment, presentation, or identity DESPITE popular cisnormative beliefs. You don't know why someone uses the pronouns that they do right off the bat (don't pretend like you do) and folks aren't obligated to tell you either. Even if you find out, don't let that sway your mind/opinions on anything about them cause that can lead you to misgendering them other ways. Don't let cisnormative norms and ideals surrounding pronouns, get the better of you.
