Music
I think one of the most underrated topics when it comes to self-improvement is music. I mean it. No one really talks about it. And not in the “listen to classical/jazz music, go to the opera, become a cultured individual” way. In the “stop listening to music all the time” way.
And before jumping at conclusions, hear me out.
I am and I’ve always been a fan of music. I don’t have a type - I listen to everything that I like. I had so many phases - Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, kpop, depressive music (let’s keep it a secret ok). You name it, I’ve been there.
For about two years, I listened to music nonstop. Not in the “music is my life” way, but in the “let’s open spotify while I’m getting dressed up” kind of way. I was listening to music in the morning, after I woke up. I was listening while I was doing homework, while I was getting ready, while I was eating. All the time. And I liked it - it’s not like I was scrolling, right?
I only noticed everything two weeks ago, when I was in an awful mental state. I was feeling like the pressure was too much, like the world was too much. I couldn’t hear my thoughts. Why? Partly because of the music that I was listening to.
Let’s get back to the story. After that, I decided to search about the effect music (with lyrics, especially) has on people, and here, loves, is what I discovered:
Dopamine Desensitization: Excessive listening to highly stimulating music can lead to dopamine over-release, causing temporary pleasure desensitization, where one needs more intense stimuli to feel pleasure. Eventually, you may find it harder to feel good without intense music. Over time, this can feel almost addictive.
Dependency on Music: As many people do (and I am no exception), you might be tempted to use music as a coping mechanism, a way to escape the reality or regulate your stress levels. Over the time, though, this dependency may hinder emotional self-regulation and negatively impact your mental resilience.
False Cure for Loneliness: Listening to music is often perceived as a “cure” for loneliness. You’ve probably experienced it. Songs are relatable - they talk about love, family, trauma and all that - and this the reason for the overconsumption. And loneliness, as we know, is the no. 1 cause of depression and mental illnesses. The thing is, which I hope you are aware of, the only cure for loneliness is meeting other people, socializing. Music makes you think everything is getting better. Well, no. Everything is getting worse.
Mood Manipulation: As well as music boosts your mood…it can always take it down. Let’s say you got a bad grade. You listen to depressive music. It feels good for a moment, right? Your feelings are validated. But then the trauma and the mommy issues come to light and that bad grade leads a feeling tsunami. Music won’t let you live in the present. Wake up, love.
Internalizing Negative Messages: As a note to no. 4, humans tend to mimic everything they see and understand. So when a song is telling you that no one will miss you when you’re gone or some other bs, you believe it, huh? Because you are human. You’ve heard of the subconscious mind - find some other posts about it and read (I don’t have any, but there are plenty on tumblr - you can even find articles so dive in).
Overstimulation. Your brain is fried. Why, love, why? You need music 24/7? No, what you need is a walk in the nature and a therapy session, not living in a world inside of your head. When you can’t hear your thoughts and all you can hear are the lyrics…it’s time to stop. Please.
Note: by any means, I am not telling you to quit listening to music. What I want you to understand is that you have to live the present and be aware of your own feelings, without being influences by the break-up song of whatever singer. What I did after I noticed all this: I switched to classical music. It rebuilt my focus, it helps me stay calm and relieve stress and I don’t have to deal with the drama. Now, feel free to choose your own path. Or even keep listening to music if you think you can manage it - but stay present. I’m telling you once again.
I hope this helps! Rya
I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but you are loved even if you don’t know it. The best thing about hitting rock bottom is the only way you can go from there is back up again. Just keep fighting, you’ve got this!
Stop hesitating in pursuing your own ambitions in fear of disrupting harmony—instead practice making decisions that prioritise your own goals and desires. Nobody else is going to put you first.
“Put your heart, mind, and soul into even your smallest acts. This is the secret of success.”
— Swami Sivananda
Never let the fear of striking out stop you from playing the game. If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
My love for you is the most authentic and genuine thing I have ever known.
You are not stuck—you are just hesitating.
We have to meet ourselves where we are, before we can meet each other in our destiny. ♾️
Self-talk is your internal dialogue. It’s influenced by your subconscious mind, & it reveals your thoughts, beliefs, questions, & ideas. How we talk to ourselves matters- how that is structured is often moulded by what we are told growing up, what we witness during our childhood & every perception the world offers us. There is not much we can do to prevent or change it but we can have awareness of how our influences have shaped our thought patterns & seeped into our self talk.
When you look in the mirror what do you see? Do you often say things like..."my nose is too big" "I look fat" or when we are faced with a challenge does a little voice in your head tell you "I can't do this, it's too hard."
These moments are mostly unconscious acts & we don't realise how that typical type of self talk can energetically flow into our days so fluidly. We all struggle with negative self-talk that creates self doubt. So you are not alone.
Developing a positive inner voice with awareness & practice helps you build self-esteem & confidence. Your words will make you feel good. When you feel good about yourself, the better your mood will be & your performance will greatly improve.
Positive self-talk enables you to be in control. When you say "I am made to do this", it trumps the negative self-talk that sabotages your day & distracts you as you work. With positive words, you are in control of the day.
Soon enough, you will find that with more positive self-talk, you will react to things differently & things that used to make you self doubt or angry will not exist anymore. When you are in control of your emotions , you are more likely to live a happy & fulfilled life.
One way we can re condition negative self-talk into a positive one is to create a mantra you can live by, & whenever you start listening to the negative voices, say it over & over again. Slowly, the negative voice will vanish.
.
Our body's are designed to feel amazing & it all begins with caring about how you feel & knowing that your normal state of being isn't 'normal' at all. It can be a complex & overwhelming path to untangle years of feeling depleted, exhausted & a bit BLAH. Especially as our earthly forms are so intimately intertwined with matters of the mind & heart which can take a toll on our physical self. To begin we have to acknowledge we are made up of mind, body & spirit to work towards nourishing all parts of ourselves with vital nutrients- literally & let's call it metaphysically. Then we have to understand we are in control of how we feel to be empowered enough to make the right changes for ourselves on all levels. This means, making changes to what we feed into our bodies on a physical level & what we pour into our minds on a daily basis. Controlling what you consume to line up with what you want to feel can mean that you have no idea that Beyonce had twins a few years ago or that you are not up to date on Krispy cremes donut selections(that's true of me- someone told me that yesterday & I was clueless even though I follow & love music 🙋♀️) but is it important & nourishing to your 3 earthly levels anyway?
A toxic lifestyle or a diet low in vital nutrients can represent only one part of a larger issue affecting your mood, stamina, & energy levels, so if you're tired of existing this way give yourself some self focused examination & assess your physical & mental consumption. You are here to live in joy & it's free will to choose suffering.

In my last article, I mentioned the importance of consistency when it comes to practicing new behaviors to cope with emotional overwhelm. (The topic of the post).
In this post, I would like to build upon the topic by sharing some ways I have learned to integrate new behaviors or habits in such a way that improves my persistence. As I have learned over time, persistence is key!
Because I have always struggled with persistence and sticking to rigid routines and mundane tasks, I have had to strive for persistence in a number of ways. I have had to learn about the importance of implementing routines (particularly for HSPs) into a daily schedule.
Implementing daily habits and routines for HSPs can be a necessary component to achieving a sense of security and balance in an overwhelming world.
Building routines can be a great way for HSPs to seek comfort and a gain a sense of knowing what to expect in a world where unexpected things happen. It can also help HSPs maintain greater focus on personal goals/dreams when there are multiple distractions arising from multiple sources. I have learned that it can also help avoid procrastination, which can lead to regret and even more feelings overwhelm.
While routines can be an excellent tool to simplify one's life, I know many highly sensitive people can find change overwhelming. I know from experience that trying to change too many things at once can be overwhelming and be an obstacle to reaching goals. That is one reason I believe starting with small goals and gradually building up to larger goals is more beneficial.
It is important to know that creating new habits can take time and patience. The time it takes to build new habits can depend on the person, the habit, commitment to the habit, and other lifestyle factors. Many people believe it takes approximately one month to create a habit. Others believe it takes more or less time to reach their goals.
It has taken me various amounts of time and effort to create some of my current habits/routines, but I would like to share with you some helpful ways I have gradually created new routines/habits into my schedule. So far, it has helped improve the quality of my life and is helping me reach my goals at a more comfortable pace!
Knowing exactly what you want to achieve and prioritize can help give you a sense of where to start and simplify your goals. Writing down your intentions/goals can help you get more clear about your goals. It may include both long term and short term goals.
This may include starting with one or two simple goals that are realistic and easy to achieve. These goals can be modified over time accordingly. The more the habits are practiced, the more likely it is to continue building upon the smaller goals. i.e. walking 10 minutes a day and gradually increasing the habit over time.
I find that tying new habits/routines to an existing routine is one of the best ways to not only get motivated, but can help with persistance. It is also a real time saver! For example, I started doing 10 jumping jacks after I brush my teeth each day. Over time I not only increased the amount of jumping jacks, but the amount I brush my teeth as well.
Everyone is different and may prefer different variations of this technique but the concept is the same. There are many sources online that further explain this concept. An example of this concept would be when I could barely get out of bed (let alone) take weekly classes, I chose to buy my favorite coffee drink (reward). The behavior or routine was getting out of bed and going to school. The cue was my alarm going off and the school day being on the schedule. Thankfully, I can attend class regularly without having to buy coffee every time but it did make a difference! Seeking out motivation and inspiration also helps facilitate the practice of a new habit. i.e. music, inspiring speeches etc...
As I mentioned in my previous article, being accountable can help increase the chance of completing a task or goal. One way to be accountable is joining a community of people with similar objectives or goals. This can be helpful with motivation and create connections with others. i.e. Joining a fitness community online or in person.
Having reminders such as visuals, auditory, written, or verbal reminders can be great ways to stay on track. i.e. leaving sticky notes around or using timers to complete tasks and stay on track.
This includes not comparing yourself to others, letting go of "black and white" thinking, and expecting instant results. It's about knowing you may not do it all perfectly but you also don't give up on achieving your goals. I also find that having patience with yourself and the process and accepting that it is not going to be perfect can help with persistency.
Tracking your progress can help you see how far you've come to reach your goal. Rewarding yourself for your progress can help reinforce the new routine or habit you want to obtain. Some people use habit trackers or draw chains to keep track of progress. I also find that writing or talking about the progress can be another useful way to keep track of goals.
Similar to a growing plant, the right conditions to grow a new habit can impact the growth process of habit development. It's easier to focus on a goal or task in a comfortable environment. Also, being in a new environment provides new cues to start a new habit. It is about what works for you!
Much of our behavior is truly based on habits. This includes both positive and negative habits. I believe most people have at least one habit they know is not benefiting them and wish they could quit repeating it. Getting rid of negative habits can be difficult because the mind connects it with some kind of reward. The process of changing the behavior may also include setbacks, time, and may not occur in a linear fashion. There are also triggers or cues in the mind's connections that can trigger the behavior or habit. An example of replacing the negative habit is knowing your triggers or cues for the negative habit and replacing it with a new behavior. i.e. Drinking flavored sparkling water when having the urge to drink soda or alcohol. In this way, new connections can be made and the new habit can be developed over time.
Although most HSPs can be easily overwhelmed when faced with change , incorporating a degree of new healthy routines or replacing negative habits with positive ones can be beneficial. The tips in this article are ten of the ways I have worked toward developing new habits. Hopefully it will help someone achieve their goals and dreams! Feel free to let me know in the comments what works for you!

After experimenting with a variety of gems over the years, I have experienced a variety of benefits crystals and gemstones exude, such as a sense of peace and tranquility. Simply holding the glossy surface of certain crystals, such as sodalite(my favorite) have been calming for me.
Crystals have also been a great focal point during meditation or when I easily get distracted. I also love the variety of colors and textures displayed as decorations. To sum it up, I think crystals are fun and full of sensory beauty!
Crystals are natural elements made of energy that have been on the earth for ages. There are a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, patterns, textures, properties, and intended uses for crystals. Each crystal truly is unique and may have different energetic effects in a given environment.
Crystals may vary in purpose, meaning, or intended use. Crystals are used in meditation or for a variety of spiritual pursuits. Due to the radiant and aesthetic nature of crystals, many crystals are used in the realms of interior design and photography. A variety of crystals are even thought to bring tranquility, peace, and clarity of mind.
Because highly sensitive people are more prone to energetic and emotional overload, crystals can be an excellent tool for the highly sensitive or empathic person! If anything, crystals are a universal source of visual stimulation and a way to connect with nature! That's a another reason I love crystals!
I plan on posting more about crystal again soon. Feel free to let me know what you think in the comments and wishing you all a lovely day or night!
With love,
Dahlia

As much as work can enjoyable (or painful), here are five tips to get you into the right mindset.
Starting the day with a sense of calm can change everything—from how we handle stress to how present we are with others.
Breathe Before Anything Before checking your phone or diving into your to-do list, take 2 minutes just to breathe. Inhale deeply, exhale slowly. It tells your nervous system: “We’ve got this.”
Create a Mini Morning Ritual It doesn’t have to be fancy—tea by the window, five minutes of journaling, or stretching in silence. Rituals ground us and give our mornings meaning.
Step Outside, Even Briefly Fresh air and natural light signal your body to wake gently and improve mood. A short walk or standing on your balcony can be enough to reset.
Set an Intention, Not Just a Schedule Instead of jumping straight into productivity mode, ask: How do I want to feel today? Calm, focused, kind? Carry that energy into your meetings and tasks.
Limit the Morning Scroll Resist the urge to start your day in reaction mode. Delay social media or emails until after you’ve centered yourself. You deserve to begin the day on your terms.

do all readings, even the ones that are 'suggested' but not required. they were suggested for a reason.
get to class early. getting to class early gives you time to be prepared and ready to study. review your notes from the day before, lay out all your supplies, ask the teacher any lingering questions about the material.
your feet feel cold? put on socks. you feel thirsty? fill up your waterbottle and leave it beside you. make yourself comfortable whilst you are studying, or you will hate it.
if you can't find the motivation to get to work on something, force yourself to pick it up for just two minutes. you're very likely to continue.
Have A Nice Day!
