Exercises for all the homies who want to have a long career drawing.
The true problem with being an artist and drawing all day (as I wanted my whole life) is that human backs are not designed to hold that position, so it is very common for artists and designers to have really stiff shoulder blades, creating a chain of muscle strain towards the arm AND the back… and a lot of pain.
These are some physical exercises for artists and honestly anyone who works at a desk.

I hit 1k subscribers right in time for my fourth tutorial! 🎉🎉 Thank you so much for your support in my other tutorials it really means a lot! I'll soon post a giveaway to celebrate all this so keep an eye out if you're interested!👀
I hope this helps some of you in your art journey and I hope it's well articulated 😩🤞. Anatomy is hard to explain so feel free to send me some ask if you'd like me to elaborate more.
The Shape of Ideas
hey
how you draw eyes?
you draw eyes so pretty and i want to know how you do it
((Alright strap in kids, this is gonna be a bit long. I’ll put the full thing under a read more to keep things clean. Here’s a quick explanation on how I do eyes!
First of all, I work primarily in Paint Tool SAI2. If you already have SAI (which can be bought for around $52 USD here) you can upgrade for free to SAI2 on their website, which I’d highly recommend.
There are mimic brushes on Clip and Photoshop, but I can’t attest for their accuracy.
These are my primary brush settings. I adjust the blending on the marker as preferred when painting. I use the marker to sketch, blend, and paint. I use the pen when I need to put down solid colors without blending or to add fine details.
Now for eyes. I love eyes because they’re super expressive and can be so many possible shapes and sizes. I’m going to assume you already have the fundamental knowledge of anatomy and how eyes work, and go into my process.
It’s very simple. I start with a top and lower lid, or lash lines. From there, I can place the iris with the marker tool, keeping the opacity low, and adding a shadow for the top of the eye. Easy!
Really, you can stop at this point, depending on how detailed your style is. OR, you can be like me, and hyperfixate on little details because it’s relaxing and fun to paint.
Below, I have several examples. The first is a base, where I put in a regular pupil and some basic shadows. From there, I have a choice on what style I want to go with. For stylized realism, I go on the right and add a lot of finer lines around the pupil, varying up the tones because eyes aren’t all one solid hue or shade. Study pictures of eyes, you’ll see they’re very complex and subtly beautiful.
For a simpler look, like what I go for in my Inverted comic, I keep things more straightforward. A blended gradient from top to bottom, and then picking up several lighter and darker colors to add definition lines. Nothing excessive, just a little bit of flavor. I give the characters in my comic stylized unique eyeshines as well, because it’s fun. Cotton is one of the only characters I really define the eyelashes on, mostly bc his eyes are very important to his character and design.
And, just because it’s fun, I sketched up a few different eyes in color, varying the technique a little each time. You can go wild with shapes, colors, and painting techniques. I hope this was informative, and I’d love to see the kinds of eyes you guys paint!))
“People are inherently terrible” no!!! Have you ever seen a child wait for their friend while they tie their shoelaces? Have you ever known someone who would bring hurt squirrels and rabbits and mice to the nearest vet just so it doesn’t suffer? Have you seen someone grieve? Have you ever read something that hit your heart like a freight train? Have you looked at the stars and felt an unexplainable joy? Have you ever baked bread? Have you shared a meal with a friend? Have you not seen it? All the love? All the good? I know it’s hard to see sometimes, I know there’s pain everywhere. But look, there’s a child helping another up after a hard fall. Look, there’s someone giving their umbrella to a stranger. Look, there’s someone admiring the spring flowers. Look, there’s good, there’s good, there’s good. Look!!!!
just because someone can articulate their point better doesn’t make them right, it makes them articulated.

a female-centric tutorial for legs <3
we start with bones.
as you can see, the femur juts out, and there's a gap between it and the iliac crest-- this forms what ppl know as "hip dips". some women don't have them.
here's some legs with different fat and muscle contents for comparison
but why are they *shaped* like that? (I hear u ask). well, muscles. muscles can Bulge or Wrap. Think of it as a garter on a thigh-- the thigh bulges, the garter wraps. the thigh then bulges gloriously around it.
here are some simplified representations of the important muscle groups in the leg.
the gracilis/abductor magnus is the "inner thigh". it bulges.
the rectus femoris is a part of the massive bulges we see on muscular legs. it's the middle one
the vastus medialis and vastus lateralis are muscles on the lower inside and outside of your thigh, and are the other bulges you see on muscular legs
the sartorius originates at the hip and wraps around the rectus femoris to terminate at the medial femur (inner knee-ish). it's the garter in this example-- it causes those bulging muscles to squish in the inner thigh.
the anterior tibialis and some other muscles wrap around the shin area.
the gastrocnemius is what we know as the calf. it's the meat of your lower leg, the bulging muscle we all think of when we think "calf"
Hey here's a step-by-step guide to making concept art pieces using the industry "Collage > Painting" pipeline. It's how artists pump out a shit ton of concept work for their bosses at record speeds. Intended for newer artists!

Disclaimer: I do not actually know how they paint the eyes, this is just me guessing their process purely from observations
Transcript:
General Shape:
- Upper eyelid is always thicker than the lower one
- younger characters tend to have bigger and rounder eyes than the adults
- there are five parts to an eye: 1. the upper eyelid corner(towards the nose) ; 2. the upper eyelid main part ; 3. the upper eyelid corner at the back ; 4. the lower eyelid ; 5. the iris
Eyelid:
- more muted color of the hair + accents with saturated eye color
Iris:
- lots of muted darker colors
- hue and saturation shift in lighter areas
- highlights are almost pure white
Eye drawing Steps:

Dudes shouldn't have to prove themselves by having spartan greyscale homes with dollar store rubber shower curtains and a mattress on the floor. Do you know what life is like with linen
Hi! I hope this question doesn't bother you, but if I may ask, what is your sketch process when drawing faces? I admire how you draw side profiles and angles!
Lots of love ❤️
Thank you! I feel like I've explained this before but can't seem to find it properly with the tutorial tag here so eh
I don't really have a process, sometimes I just start with an eye or something and build from it, but if I had to explain the thought process it's roughly like this:
I rely a lot on anatomy planes and using simple shapes to know how they deform with each angle before going into detail on things like eyes, etc. Cheekbones, chin angle, eye sockets, etc
Nobody wants to hear this but it's also heavily linked to some understanding of the musculoskeletal system underneath 🙂↕️
Had an impromptu chat with @ushi418 about fashion history the other day- thought I’d post it here as a quick ref for people!
Honestly, I hate eating but it keeps the depression away, so...

Bad taste cuz some flavors coat your mouth with a specific flavor and no matter how much water you drink, it will never go away
If you're neurodivergent which one is worse (for you!)?
-a disgusting smell
-uncomfortable clothes
-an annoying sound
-feeling too cold/too warm
-a bad taste in your mouth
-too many lights/lights being too strong
-not neurodivergent option/see results

Please add more! There are so many and I know I didn't get them all.
- eyeballs are an eyeball width apart - ears align with the top of your brows to the bottom of your nose, and are the center-point of a profile view - lip corners line up to the center of each eye - hands are roughly the size of your face - feet are the same size as your forearm - elbows are aligned with your belly-button - your hands reach down mid-length of your thighs - both upper and lower legs (individually) are roughly the same size as your torso (this is all rough estimates for proportion! feel free to add more to help others)
