Varric's cut lines in Veilguard

In another feat of ME2 similarities, Varric apparently used to have a role similar to Kelly Chambers, telling Rook about new letters and to check on companions when they have new quests available. I don't think these lines can be heard in the game now, but they still remain in the files.

Interestingly enough, one of the lines about the mail features a mention of the group's base being "on the back of a giant Fade creature." Lighthouse may have changed a lot during the development!

EDIT: Someone messaged me to say that they heard one of the lines about Lucanis in their playthrough, so the companion lines may actually trigger in the game. Probably not the letters, though, since Rook doesn't have a letter desk, and only the Missives section in the Library interface.

Bellara:

I think you should make sure Bellara's okay, Rook.

Rook? You might want to see what Bellara's up to.

Hey, Rook. I think something's up with Bellara.

Davrin:

Hey, Rook. Maybe see what's up with Davrin? He seems to have his hands full.

Is Davrin all right? I heard gryphon screeching and a lot of cursing just now.

You might want to check on Davrin.

Emmrich:

Hey, Rook. There was either muttering or chanting coming from Emmrich's room. Maybe… check that out?

Hey, Rook, could you check on Emmrich? He seems… weirder than usual.

Rook, could you check on Emmrich? I think I heard him talking to himself. Weird, even for him.

Harding:

Is Harding all right? I don't want to say that she's scaring me more than usual, but… she is.

Rook, could you check on Harding? She's doing that… terrifyingly cheery thing she does.

I'm getting a little worried about Harding, Rook. Maybe see what's going on with her, would you?

Lucanis:

Rook, you realize Lucanis had eleven cups of coffee today? Maybe… see if he's still alive?

Lucanis looks broodier than usual. Maybe you should check in on him.

You should always keep an eye on the broody ones, Rook. By which I mean Lucanis. He's starting to worry me.

Neve:

Hey, is something up with Neve? Maybe you should check on her.

Okay, so Neve hasn't left her room in… I don't know how long. See if she's trapped under something heavy.

Is it just me, or does Neve seem preoccupied? Worse than usual, I mean.

Taash:

Do you smell smoke, Rook? Maybe you should go… check on Taash.

So… I heard what sounded like Taash beating the shit out of something. Maybe see what's up?

There were a lot of… punching sounds coming from Taash's direction. You might want to see if there's casualties.

Mail:

You got more letters. You want me to chuck them somewhere? Out a window, maybe?

Hey, Rook. Someone sent you a letter.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but you know your mail's starting to pile up, right?

Mail's here. Who makes deliveries to "Weird base on the back of a giant Fade creature"?

Ugh. The number of times I just wish veilguard was out already!?🤨 But then I hear people say we may lose Varric, and I am now terrified to hit that emotional trauma! 😔Like, what do you mean!? You want to kill off my comfort dwarf! 🥺🥺😭😱😵🫣

Here to ruin everyone's day with this because honestly I find it delightful and fits into the feral and desperate need I have for Thedas to be experiencing mega fauna and flora.

Update: Just to clarify, the only height that is canon is Bull's. I realize that the wording for some was not entirely clear enough on that. That's why I didn't tag this as lore.

Going from shortest to tallest we have this:

Varric - 5'3 (160.02cm) [Source]

Morrigan - 5'8 (172.72cm)*

Alistair - 6' (182.88cm) [Source]

Dorian - 6' - 6'2 (182.88-187.96cm)*

Morrigan:

Morrigan's figure isn't listed anymore, but I grabbed a screenshot and with the help of a friend who has her statue, Morrigan is 5'8 sans heels.

Heights Based Off Official Model Scales, Dev Words, Or Lore Specified

Dorian:

When asked about Dorian's height, David Gaider specified that: "He is as tall as the character artists made him." [Source]

So, without giving bias, I put Dorian's height at a range due to the fact he is the ideal proportions at 8 heads tall which by modern industry standard means he's 6'2, but by earlier standards means he's 6'. Since we can't really tell which height the artist is going for, I put the range. But considering current standards I would say he's 6'2.

The Iron Bull:

In World of Thedas vol. 2 p. 255 they have the description that he is 8' tall.

Everyone in the Chargers is someone who can look at an eight-foot horned giant and say, 'Yes, I trust that man with my life.'

If you're wondering if that includes the horns? Up to you, its not specified. If you want to do sans horns, they math out to adding roughly 5" to his had according to his gaming heads model. Which would make him 7'5 (226.06cm).
