Watch John Oliver slam states’ restrictive anti-abortion laws.

Imagine a world where one’s DNA, blood, and tissue samples were on file. Everyone is on file. Whenever someone with a compatibility to you fell deathly ill, you could be compelled to give them blood, marrow, a kidney, a portion of intestine or pancreas or liver or lung. There are no donor waiting lists. Countless lives are saved. So why does it sound like a dystopian novel? Oh right, because treating every human organ as if it were a uterus would be terrifying.

I say this a lot but they insist it’s not the same thing. It really is the same though.
If it really was about ‘all life is sacred’ they would be 100% with the idea of everyone being a registered donor and not having a choice when it came to giving up something, so long as there was a reasonable chance they would survive the procedure. Sure, some people would die after giving a kidney or lung, but most don’t so no one should have a choice.
And it is for a stranger when it involves pregnancy too. You’ve never actually met it, you don’t know it. It’s a stranger that happens to share your DNA. Sharing DNA doesn’t make you not strangers either. I share DNA with my maternal grandfather, but I’ve never met him. He’s a stranger. I share DNA with my paternal uncle and cousin, but I’ve met one of them only once, and the other never. They’re strangers who I happen to share DNA with. Same with a fetus. It’s a stranger I would happen to share DNA with should one ever exist.
“When I was about 20 years old, I met an old pastor’s wife who told me that when she was young and had her first child, she didn’t believe in striking children, although spanking kids with a switch pulled from a tree was standard punishment at the time. But one day, when her son was four or five, he did something that she felt warranted a spanking–the first in his life. She told him that he would have to go outside himself and find a switch for her to hit him with. The boy was gone a long time. And when he came back in, he was crying. He said to her, “Mama, I couldn’t find a switch, but here’s a rock that you can throw at me.” All of a sudden the mother understood how the situation felt from the child’s point of view: that if my mother wants to hurt me, then it makes no difference what she does it with; she might as well do it with a stone. And the mother took the boy into her lap and they both cried. Then she laid the rock on a shelf in the kitchen to remind herself forever: never violence. And that is something I think everyone should keep in mind. Because if violence begins in the nursery one can raise children into violence.”

The year is 1995, congress member Bernie Sanders stands in opposition of a homophobic statement said by Duke Cunningham. Cunningham derisively refers to “homos in the military” to support his argument while (strangely) discussing the Clean Water Act. Sanders, having none of it, quickly rises to the defense of thousands of men and women everywhere. Sanders ire is such that he repeatedly disrespects the Chairman by speaking over him in order to say his piece. [Video Source]
What does this say for Sanders? Well, that’s for you to decide. But to me, it says that for 20+ years strong he has shown his public support for LGBT+ persons everywhere, even in the face of ridicule and disrespect. Unlike some, Sanders has always been vocal about his beliefs concerning the LGBT+ community, and he has always held them. Key word always, and not just when doing so might garner him support for his campaigns.

Rest in Peace Alan Rickman. You will be missed greatly.
straight boys are weak and pathetic, queer girls walk into the ladies changing room and see ten women naked, do they stare? do they say something inappropriate? do they make them uncomfortable? no because they have the common fucking sense to recognise when a situation is sexual and that people deserve the most basic level of respect to not be harassed, yet here we are banning shorts and low cut tops in school because straight boys are weak and pathetic
christmas eve what about christmas adam
Yes, this, exactly.
“I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you feel all alone.”

i think the information you try to perpetuate is really harmful. not everyone is 50 lbs into a weight loss regimen and burning a thousand calories every time they work out =/ Sometimes the only way to create a deficit is to eat less calories
The “harmful” information perpetuated is from the diet industry which tells people that they have to starve themselves to effectively lose weight.
You will see me say time and time again that losing weight comes down to energy in vs. energy out. That is me saying that yes, you need to eat less to create a healthy deficit. But it isn’t just about eating less, it’s about eating differently. AND people HAVE GOT to understand the concepts of BMR and TDEE to prevent themselves from harming their bodies and slipping into unhealthy habits that can ruin their lives by developing into eating disorders - it’s a very real thing that happens to too many people because they develop an unhealthy mindset related food. The last thing you want to do when trying to lose weight is eat too little and cause permanent damage to your body.
People require different amounts of energy given their stats and activity level, but the basic biology of how bodies work is still the same.
Okay, but imagine the first time Steve and Bucky hear the term “feminazi.” Some dudebro at a convention or public event the team is forced to go to calls a woman a feminazi, and Steve and Bucky just lose it and start yelling at the guy because they’ve lost friends to actual Nazis, and a woman standing up for her rights as a human being is not comparable to slaughtering millions of people.
“Those poor boys”
“She deserves to be punished too.”
“I’m not saying I support rape, but-”
“Sorry to say - she deserved it.”
“She put herself in harm’s way”
“But if she was fingered, then that’s not rape.”
“She ruined their lives.”

Before we get into ‘Jessica Jones’, here’s your reminder that Zebediah ‘Purple Man’ Killgrave is an evil, manipulative, mind-controlling rapist and an absolutely loathsome individual that should not be respected or woobified because David Tennant is playing him.
Enjoying Tennant’s performance as Killgrave is one thing, trying to make excuses for Killgrave and any of his deplorable actions because he’s played by Tennant is another.
Please don’t.
I’m also saying this now out of care so that rape survivors who are not familiar with the Jessica Jones world- especially those who have no knowledge about the Purple Man character- know what they’re getting into before they watch the show.
I want y’all to know that this show may have a lot of triggers when it comes to rape and manipulation so please take heed when viewing if you do decide to watch the show.

i’m seeing a lot of people reblogging suicide hotlines and this is just a reminder that this is a suicide help line that works like a text-based instant messenger for people who may need to talk to someone but have trouble/are uncomfortable making phone calls

This week, the Movement Advancement Project released a new infographic detailing the inequalities bisexual Americans face in spheres like employment, health and economic status. The data’s not pretty. Read MAP’s full report on bisexual issues here, and see the infographic bigger here.
Oh, Bill Nye... <3 Go Science!Guy!
But the people that he’s saying this to still don’t believe in evolution and that the world is 6k years old. They just don’t believe in science. *grumpyface*
That’s what Bill Nye has to say in his latest educational video, “Can We Stop Telling Women What to Do With Their Bodies?” In the video, which you can watch above, Nye explains how the idea of “life at conception” simply doesn’t make sense – because many more eggs are fertilized than become humans, due to factors like failure to attach to a woman’s uterine wall.
i want to achieve “she’s adorable and i will protect her at all costs but also i am slightly frightened by her power”
Kesha was being raped by her producer for 10 years straight and when she tried to push charges , her right to make music was taken away from her.now she is not only a victim of a disgusting crime but her career is at risk too, help kesha by joining the hashtag #FreedomForKesha, spread it and let us not just sit and watch , i don’t care if you like her music or not, she is still a human, no one deserves to be treated like this, everybody deserve love and respect .
Are you hydrated? If not, have a glass of water.
Have you eaten in the past three hours? If not, get some food — something with protein, not just simple carbs. Perhaps some nuts or hummus?
Have you showered in the past day? If not, take a shower right now.
If daytime: are you dressed? If not, put on clean clothes that aren’t pajamas. Give yourself permission to wear something special, whether it’s a funny t-shirt or a pretty dress.
If nighttime: are you sleepy and fatigued but resisting going to sleep? Put on pajamas, make yourself cozy in bed with a teddy bear and the sound of falling rain, and close your eyes for fifteen minutes — no electronic screens allowed. If you’re still awake after that, you can get up again; no pressure.
Have you stretched your legs in the past day? If not, do so right now. If you don’t have the spoons for a run or trip to the gym, just walk around the block, then keep walking as long as you please. If the weather’s crap, drive to a big box store (e.g. Target) and go on a brisk walk through the aisles you normally skip.
Have you said something nice to someone in the past day? Do so, whether online or in person. Make it genuine; wait until you see something really wonderful about someone, and tell them about it.
Have you moved your body to music in the past day? If not, do so — jog for the length of an EDM song at your favorite BPM, or just dance around the room for the length of an upbeat song.
Have you cuddled a living being in the past two days? If not, do so. Don’t be afraid to ask for hugs from friends or friends’ pets. Most of them will enjoy the cuddles too; you’re not imposing on them.
Do you feel ineffective? Pause right now and get something small completed, whether it’s responding to an e-mail, loading up the dishwasher, or packing your gym bag for your next trip. Good job!
Do you feel unattractive? Take a goddamn selfie. Your friends will remind you how great you look, and you’ll fight society’s restrictions on what beauty can look like.
Do you feel paralyzed by indecision? Give yourself ten minutes to sit back and figure out a game plan for the day. If a particular decision or problem is still being a roadblock, simply set it aside for now, and pick something else that seems doable. Right now, the important part is to break through that stasis, even if it means doing something trivial.
Have you seen a therapist in the past few days? If not, hang on until your next therapy visit and talk through things then.
Have you been over-exerting yourself lately — physically, emotionally, socially, or intellectually? That can take a toll that lingers for days. Give yourself a break in that area, whether it’s physical rest, taking time alone, or relaxing with some silly entertainment.
Have you changed any of your medications in the past couple of weeks, including skipped doses or a change in generic prescription brand? That may be screwing with your head. Give things a few days, then talk to your doctor if it doesn’t settle down.
Have you waited a week? Sometimes our perception of life is skewed, and we can’t even tell that we’re not thinking clearly, and there’s no obvious external cause. It happens. Keep yourself going for a full week, whatever it takes, and see if you still feel the same way then.
You’ve made it this far, and you will make it through. You are stronger than you think.
I will not beg you for your time or try to convince you to choose me, the world is too big and I have too much to offer.
Yo friends, if you really don’t like the look of the new update,
I sent a message in and got a response in under five minutes. Reblogs and commenting on posts won’t fix this, but actual, submitted feedback might.
Don’t use chatspeak or all caps or threats, just send them actual, legitimate messages objecting to the update, the look, what it will do to the RP communities on Tumblr – whatever.
Send them feedback. They probably won’t read your blog posts, but they will read tickets submitted directly to them.
